Due to a certain shitpost of mine getting some attention on twitter, I figured I’d transcribe the names of the series from the hand of Devilman works + works influenced by it that was released during crybaby (found here):

Note: some of the names are connected by solid red lines, and I’m not sure if they mean anything, but just in case I put them together with their connected series seperated by ‘—’s at the end of each finger. All names before the first ‘—’ are free-floating.

This doesn’t even actually include all works influenced by Devilman; notable examples undoubtedly influenced but not on this hand are Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Yu Gi Oh, and Kaze to Ki no Uta.

Genealogy of Devilman. It's a tree of a number of fictional works (not just anime and manga) that influenced Devilman's creation, and in turn inspired the creation of works beyond Devilman throughout the decades.

There's too many to list, but among those that are inspired by Devilman are Berserk, Evangelion, Resident Evil, Inuyasha, Darker Than Black, Attack on Titan, Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Hellsing, Ajin, All You Need is Kill (Edge of Tomorrow), Tokyo Ghoul, and even Spawn.

I read Gekiman and I had a doubt, because in the end Jack, appears, What does this mean, Nagai sees Violence Jack as the true continuation of Devilman. I hope not.

Do you read it or just skimmed through the pages? Because there could be an explanation in Japanese. Or he could be just drawing it to see it in his newer style, I’m sure he drew Jun and other characters of his other manga too.

A possible loose continuation, sure, it is ‘a spiritual sequel’, but Nagai going out to say it’s ‘the true one’… I doubt so. It only connects to Devilman right at the end, and I think I already said in the past I just read VJ as Nagai having fun.

There’s also at least an official instance where VJ has been purposely separated from Devilman. In the picture attached to this post, it says:

Notice that Mao Dante or even the Chibi OVA are still there as essential ones.

It has always been said that Nagai gave an interview actually removing VJ from its sequel status, but I can’t give you a source to back that up. Old fandoms are complicated like this.

I’ve noticed that some people are comparing Sigurd to Jonathan Joestar. I...Don’t find that fitting, actually. If anything, *Marth* is essentially the Fire Emblem equivalent to Jonathan (except the dying and body theft part).

I see Sigurd as having more in common with Akira Fudo (Devilman). Both characters start off having good intentions only to be betrayed and ultimately killed after suffering great tragedy.

This time it’s about the new page that appeared recently on the Devilman Crybaby official page, and an article written about it by some old school anime industry person (apparently it’s ebiharayu on Twitter).

The title of that article is “Without Devilman, would Eva have never been Made? A Look through a Cultural History”.

Apparently, Devilman started the trend of monsters that grow stronger by fighting each other and the trend of ordinary protagonists getting dropped into a world of violence and monsters.

The hand image covers several works the article has explained Devilman’s existence influenced, and even gave actual references. It’s really long.
