Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon Spring 2023 TBR
There's a readathon coming in a week and I am super excited to see how much I can read in 24 hours. Have you heard about Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon?
Hey all, Sam here. Well…it has been a while since I’ve been able to really do a proper write-up for Readathon participation…but I’m actually completely free right now and since David has to work during the readathon, I figured I might as well see if I can increase my lead on my reading goals for this year. I have been participating in Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon for practically the entire time…

So, I finished Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham. It's another one I started weeks ago, but held off on finishing so I could save it for the readathon. I also finished re-reading The Saturdays and The Four Story Mistake (Melendy books). I don't know if I'll finish Then There Were Five.
I'm also about 30% through on the audiobook I picked. Walking Gentry Home. I'm going to actually have to read it because occasionally, I have trouble understanding the words spoken. Also, about the same amount done of A Room With A View. For that, I had it all planned out. I would sit on the landing outside and read while periodically looking up to see the birds and squirrels. The only problem was, I left my book at the library! I have an ebook copy, so I still read, but the old fashioned vibe just wasn't there with me holding a phone.

April 2023 Dewey's Reading Relay
For the week leading into our readathon we'll be doing a series of 2 day 'sprints' For each one, pick your TBR and see how many books/pages/hours you can finish. These sprints would be a great way to revisit previous TBRs, or to focus on those stubbornly slow books you'd love to have finished by the readathon.
Relay Sprint 1 - April 22-23 Relay Sprint 2 - April 24-25 Relay Sprint 3 - April 26-27 Relay Sprint 4 - April 28
April 29 is our Readathon, starting at 8am Eastern Time.
What are you reading for this week?

read in april 2023
The highlight of this month was Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. I finished 3 books (and made progress on a 4th) for a total of 853 pages in 20 hours. Call numbers are proudly on display because I am using my library a lot more now that I've read all the books I own and haven't bought any more.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon April 2023 Recap
This event is hands down my favorite event of all time. I wish it happened quarterly to be honest. But as it is, I have something to look forward to twice a year. This blog will include my answers to the event surveys and my progress made during the event. Opening Event Survey: 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?I’m from Georgia. It’s a southern state in the United…

That Deadman Dance
Historical fiction about the impact of first contact between Noongar people, British settlers and whalers Content warning: colonialism, sexual assault Last year, even though things were a bit hectic, I decided to take part in the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. I was over-ambitious, and on a whim decided to make a stack of blue books from my to-read shelves/piles. Photo of a stack of blue books…

Tips to Read More
Read-a-thons In a read-a-thon (or reading marathon), you’ll dedicate a set amount of time (24 hours for example) to just reading. You can join one with other people or be the sole participant. A read-a-thon can help if you’re stuck on what to read next since many come with a theme or recommendations. Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is a read-a-thon I’ve seen recommended over and over. Reading…

Looking over things and I think I'm ready for tomorrow's Readathon. My primary goal is to finish at least one book that I've already started. I've got a lot of those to choose from!

Manga Review: I Got Caught Up In a Hero Summons, but the Other World was at Peace! Vol. 1 by Toudai, Jiro Heian, and Ochau
I do enjoy checking out isekai manga, and this is one I read during Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon back in April. Check out my thoughts on this first volume!
Hey all, Sam here. It is the start of another week, which means that it is time for another geeky post filled week here on the Free State of Geek blog. There’s a lot to look forward to, from a glimpse into a cool TTRPG supplement for Tabletop Tuesday, to four different NetGalley book reviews, another creativity deep dive for Weekend Writer, and of course, our usual weekly check in with WIP…

Today is the readathon. So far, I've finished She Memes Well by Quinta Brunson and finished re-reading The Amazing True Story of A Single Teenage Mom by Katherine Arnoldi. The last is one of two graphic novels. I started She Memes Well weeks ago for a book club but put off finishing so I could do it today. Except for a short self help book and an audiobook of poetry, I'm not trying to read any entire books for the first time here. I'm re-reading a children's book series (The Melendy Quartet by Elizabeth Enright, although I'm only reading the first three books). I went with children's books because the last time I tried to re-read 300-400 page books and barely got through one.
I also started A Room With a View on Thursday, because I heard someone gushing about it on Booktube. So far it's pretty good. I have a few more books, but we'll see how it goes. In a bit, I'm going to go sit outside to read.
