hello! the rhyme anima season two trailer came out like...an hour ago. AND SO DID THE DHBAT CHARACTER ART so i'm here to post them. their full bodies as well as their headshots are down below!

What's the rhyme anima, and what's dhbat?

rhyme anima is the anime adaption for the japanese franchise Hypnosis Mic (hypmic) . it mainly consists of drama tracks, manga, and a Lot of music, but a few years ago they made s1 of rhyme anima and they're finally making s2 <33

dhbat is the abbreviated titles for the new groups that are finally being animated<3

dh > dotsuitare hompo

bat > bad ass temple (their name is so lame i love them)

there's sm content for this series but mostly everything is in japanese so finding english translations can be a little rough</3 i care abt these silly guys sm (besides the guy w the scar over his eye he can die i hate him)

alalright time for dhbat songs reactions

found osaka first so theyre going first. im not sure its a good idea to name a song comedian rhapsody. you obviously invite comparisons to bohemian rhapsody which. u sure u wanna do that. what i want to compare it to is torima get on the floor though. similar vibes. my opinion on torima has HAD TO PAUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG BECAUSE GRANDMA HAD A PHONE QUESTION GDI anyway. my opinion on torima has become far more positive since it came out, so this is a positive comparison. god this chorus kills. makes me want to get up and dance.

young gun of the sun. this is a... not a cover? but he’s rapping over an existing song. so its not a sample either. i’m familiar with this comcept tho, heard other rappers do it. and kuko’s a known fan of punk rock so it makes sense. like i know these aren’t necessarily diagetic but i can so easily see him like, finding the instrumental of a song he likes and freestyling over it. this is what this feels like. what he does in his bedroom the second his dad leaves to run errands. also i love every part of this.

Kuukou shoves a hypnosis mic in front of Hitoya.

Kuukou: You're a member of my team too.

Hitoya: I don't get what you're saying.

Kuukou: This matter's non-negotiable. I'm not letting you refuse.

Hitoya: There are two things I can't stand. First: redheaded brats. Second: being forced to do something!

Kuukou: Seems like I check both boxes! Ahahaha!

Hitoya: You know that well, don't you!?

Kuukou: Do I, now? I've set up a field for you to go up against Jinguji Jakurai, yet you're running away?

Kuukou: ...well, running away from an opponent you've never ever won against is a clever choice.

Taken aback, Hitoya finally gives in.

Kuukou grabs Hitoya's arms, much to his displeasure.

The three of them place their right hands on top of each others', officiating their team up.

Kuukou: We're family from now on. This bond won't vanish, even if we cross over to the afterlife! Know that there's absolutely no escape and no betrayal!

Hitoya: I'll judge as law says if you're doing the betraying.

Kuukou: Haha! I'll keep that in mind.

Ramuda watches the three through the gaps on the halls's wooden fences. Shakku approaches him.

Shakku: ―Oh. Do you perhaps have business?

Ramuda: Ahaha~ this plush was dropped in the temple grounds, so I came here to hand it over. Here you go!

Shakku: Oh my. Thank you very much.

Ramuda: Well then, bye-bie~!

The chapter ends with Rosho coming home to his apartment... only to see his living room light turned on.

SAMATOKI

He’s a yakuza, and a lieutenant and that. There’s no telling how much blood is on his hands [1]. It is a part of his job to get rid of his boss’ problems as well as his own, so it’s very likely that he’s killed people before.

Samatoki is conscious of this. He’s well aware of how many lives could’ve been torn apart by him - those people have families too. But it’s not his problem when life is not fair. In the same way, he’s accepted that one day he may be killed in this line of work.

He can kill without any emotion. He’s used to it by now, even handing off work to his underlings. But the only time his hands will throb with true bloodlust is for those who would dare to hurt Nemu. There’s nothing in this world that he wouldn’t do for her, even if she were to be horrified by it. [2]

SASARA

This one is a wild card. If you asked him if he’d kill, Sasara would say “DEFINITELY NOT!” Sasara wants to believe that he’s ‘good enough’ not to hurt people anymore, but he did turn a blind eye during the MCD days when Samatoki had to deal with people.

Sometime Sasara blames himself. If he didn’t help out Samatoki during those days, maybe some might have lived - though he doesn’t really think about what those people actually did to deserve death. In a way, he sometimes thinks that he’s responsible for their deaths too.

If put in a situation where it’s him or a stranger, he’d save himself. To act in self-defence is the only way Sasara would ever have intent to take someone’s life away. Even then, he would still feel guilt for having to commit an act of murder, calling it that despite his circumstances.

ICHIRO

There is no doubt that Ichiro would do anything for his brothers. He’s ruined people’s lives through debt collection in Stairway to Heaven, and if luck struck out for them, Ichiro would do it all again so that his brothers could have a good life.

To kill is a last resort. Everyone deserves a chance at life, and he wants to do what he can to prolong it. If he didn’t know his own strength in a fight, he would do all that he could to help someone, so long as they didn’t hurt others.

However, he knows the situation of the world around him. He’s seen how adults around him all have baggage on their hands from bad things, so if there ever came a day he had to kill someone for his brothers, he would find some way to convince himself that it was justified.

KUKO

There is nothing in the world that would make him consciously choose to kill someone. No matter how rough a man he is, at the core of him are his Buddhist values in the preciousness of one’s life. For him to kill would mean inflicting a wound on someone else’s family that would never heal for the rest of their lives. It’s not his place to ever do such a thing. [3]

Kuko is a fighter. He’ll fight to protect himself and others who need him, but to kill someone is the last thing on his mind. He will do everything in his power to protect a life, but he can never guarantee that his actions won’t harm another.

He swears to himself that he will never kill, that it’s nothing a man should ever think about. However, the reality is that if he ever did, he’d want to face the highest punishment he could. Out of all things he can think of in the world, it truly is one of the greatest sins to take a life.

[1] - Samatoki says this in the second verse of Gangsta’s Paradise.

[2] - We see in Chapter 7 of The Dirty Dawg manga that Samatoki kicked the unconscious bodies of Gencho and Mozuku while Nemu watched, even restraining his anger when Ichiro stopped him. 

[3] - Kuko’s views on suicide from DHBAT chapter 4 were that “you would deal a wound on your family that wouldn’t heal for the rest of their lives”, so naturally I thought of a similar view when it comes to killing in general.

NEW DHBAT CHAPTER . MAMMA MIA HERE WE GO AGAIN

why are you translating all these songs that already have translations? wouldn't it be better to focus on material nobody's translated yet like rule the stage?

Good question!! I was mostly translating the new solos for my own benefit to be honest... yes they’ve already been done, months earlier than I could get to them, but I wanted to get them finished because I promised myself and others that I would when they came out, and now I have!! So from here I can focus on whatever new songs KR decides to release in the future (like the new DH song, and the hopefully-upcoming 2nd Division Battle Season).

Rule the Stage is a little more complicated, though... I’ve done Gimme and Don’t Pass The Mic, but that’s mostly because they’re A) publicly available and B) have transcripts in the form of official lyrics. I don’t have easy access to the stageplays right now, so I can’t really do anything with them. That being said, I would love to do both, and the DHBAT stageplay when it comes out too! But I’m just not sure how possible that’s going to be at the moment, sorry.
