Welcome Home AU idea but it has a DHMIS-esq twist.
In which Wally becomes so self-aware to the point that he watches as every time his friends get “injuries” or are not working properly, they get broken/thrown away and replaced. They become fresh and new and act as if they were always there, but to Wally, he knows that this isn’t his original friend—no matter how much they act like them.
Though, the one who gets the most amount of replacements is Frank (based on that one drawing of Frank and his broken replacements) .
Wally ends up losing count of the amount of times he witnesses Frank be replaced.
Bonus if it happens every time Frank gains some “sentience”.

Generally wondering what is up with the teachers. Implications pointing to them being much more chilled out then in their lessons are so interesting,, imagine being given enough life to be sentient but then being used as a puppet for a cruel game and then being tossed out and left for dead when you’re done with

been a hot second since I have drawn a full art piece or a non-human character that's cartoony, so sorry if he looks a bit odd
anyway, this art thingy is for an au I have, and under the read more there are some little facts about him, hope ya enjoy them
warning: I may have gone a bit overboard with the little facts and also some things might be incomprehensible because English is not my first language, so, sorry about that
This is Duck Guy! like from the YT series (not the TV series there's a big difference), his real name is Canard Drake Robbins
he is a 60-year-old (?) Broadway star, while he is, of course, most well known for acting in many plays/musicals, he would like to act in a tv show but sadly he is very picky and no show that has wanted to contract him has caught his attention in any way
he used to be a friend of both Roy and Leslie, probably meet them when they all ended up sharing an apartment because Leslie was a broke art school student, Canard was new in the city and Roy had just gotten out of jail and disowned by his family (don't ask me why he was in jail, I do not know)
he met Red Guy years after both David (Leslie's son) and Manny (Yellow Guy) were born, they both frequented a quaint little cafe and slowly they started talking and became friends (for the record, Canard is just Red's dad's friend/mentor, TV Duck n Red on the other hand? well, they are separate characters)
currently (as in, post-DHMIS YT series) he is letting Red and Manny live in his house as they are dealing with the fallout of being like, thought dead/a missing persons case for years and everything they went through while in Punish Land
he is the legal guardian of Manny (mainly because there's no one else that would take in the child), he is planning to home-school the kid but currently, he is just taking Manny to ice cream parlors and trying to convince Red that all 3 of them should go to therapy
and finally, he is not a duck, he is a parrot, and he might have died in Punish Land and the current Canard might just be a duplicate with all of his memories, not that he himself is sure of that tho

DHMIS Easter Eggs and Background Details
Tumblr media
A huge list of a bunch of background details, foreshadowing, and Easter Eggs I noticed on my second watch-through. Note that I’m only including things that are fairly obscure, rather than “obvious” items others have already pointed out (so I’m not including the symbol sightings, for example). Feel free to add on with anything I missed.
Episode 1
In the theme song, Red Guy is “you”, which makes sense as he’s usually the audience surrogate character
Among the briefcase’s papers is a sticky note with 1906 on it
Right as the briefcase leaves, the last line is “you can be the ones who dig a hole for a funeral” as foreshadowing to the next episode
Everyone’s name tag in the factory has their name except for Yellow’s, which just says “employee”
When Bird is talking to Red in the office, he says that they’ve only been there for “9 minutes”. This is at the 14 minute mark and they got to Peterson’s at 5 minutes in, so they have indeed been there 9 minutes
According to the Carehound poster, Peterson’s is closed Mon–Sat and is open for exactly 4 minutes at 10 PM on Sun
Red Guy framed and hung the fax the fax machine gave him on the wall
Before the song starts the briefcase is rushing off to his job, but when the song ends he tells Brendon it’s time for his bath (as in, they’re going home). Meaning that teaching/torturing the puppets was the job he was rushing off to
Episode 2
The orange with eyes that was in the very first DHMIS short is in the BG when Red checks his ID card
The gel teacher appears as an inanimate object while Duck’s in the bathroom during the Big Day song
The tissue box says “sad squares” on it
Yellow’s red overalls from the ending of the DHMIS 6 short appear on his bed
The make your new friend box claims the new friend is not, in fact, toilet trained
The cassette that Duck plays is the same song from the end credits
Stain mentions “some people think we’re in a simulation” during their song, which references both the end of the OG series and episode 6 of this show
The shovel at the end of this episode cameos at the end of the original DHMIS 6 short as a teacher
There are a bunch of maggots by real!Bird’s feet at the end before they start the song
Episode 3
The Chuddle Dollops are “warm lasagna flavor”
Lillie and Todney switch their shirts from brown to black and white stripes while at their house for some reason
The picture Todney holds up appears to show Yellow holding a very Dead Duck by the leg
When Todney and Lillie are measuring their heights, the names on the wall are “grandma”, “Todney” and “Lily” (spelled with a Y)
When they measure Yellow’s height, they also measure his feet. They’re getting his measurements so they know what size to make the outfit they stick him in later
Duck has the toasted bread slice child from earlier on the table when Red drops in
Episode 4
That triangle thing from the original series shows up on the bookshelf early on
The apple teacher from the last episode also shows up on the shelf, surprisingly not eaten
The pamphlets Warren holds up for the restaurant-style meal include one for Grolton’s Chiken
The trio’s digital style avatars from DHMIS 4 show up in the BG when they go online as well as the “nothing” sign from 2 and the clown painting from 1
There’s a phone in every ep so far, probably as a reference to the role phones played in the OG series. A phone ringing is what leads Red into the office in 1, Red says you have to schedule to use the phone in 2, Lily and Todney cut the landline in 3, and there’s a phone in Yellow’s brain that Warren uses to order food
The search results on Colin include “long faced individuals in YOUR area - looking to chat!” and “long faced man VS horse - the ultimate long face showdown!”
Episode 5
The recipe note on the fridge says “rat shin”, “pie”, and “egg soup”
The photo in the kitchen background changes to a different photo each ep
Bird’s clipboard includes “one Jason” at the bottom
Bird individually counting tiles instead of counting it as one floor is valid considering the floor extends infinitely during the blackout in 6
If I’m not mistaken Red walking into another room is the first time that’s ever happened in either the show or the shorts. Usually it just cuts to them already in a different room
There’s another phone on the wall in the living room
The train teacher’s eyebrows fall off in bike form and remain gone while in car form
Mullhoven’s name is on a signpost (and the teacher) during a song transition, and the poster under it says that this is a “neighborhood watch area” with a picture of a woman (maybe meant to be Lelsey? though it doesn’t look much like her)
Roy’s face is on a pirate flag
1906 reference on the second bus, which reads “terminal 196″ in all of the destination windows
The car has a worm button in it
Bird says “we’ve already seen a dead horse”, even though they haven’t
Mini-Tony on the dashboard
Time Child’s digital clock reads 19:06
Mulhoven is spelled differently every time it shows up
Some of the Mulhoven signs include “Nice Hair”, “Nice Road”, and “It’s shoes”
Another sign says “Quiz Night Fun: Every Morning (It’s fun!)”
People have pointed out the Roy cameo in the neighbors shot, but Duck is also a few windows down
One character is dressed like Lily (blonde girl with striped shirt and a red letter), though the letter appears to be “I” instead of “L”
Episode 6
The bill is from Roy-Electric and it’s for 19.06 pounds
Electracey’s last two numbers on her neck are 96
Final phone is the fake phone with a real phone in it. Duck also has a phone during the blackout
Drawing with the dead Duck from Episode 5 of the OG series pops up in the BG during the shredder scene
Crossword includes “Roy”, “gravel” (a nod to DHMIS 3), and “aspic” (DHMIS 5)
When Electracey is malfunctioning the sunlight outside flickers with the indoor lights, hinting at the dollhouse thing
One of the chalkboard drawings says “aspic” and another says “Roy”
Clayhill is also on the chalkboard but scribbled out
The electric clock in the house reads “20:06″ (as in June 20th)
The urn that Red smashes has Duck’s face on it, meaning it’s once again another dead Duck
Sketchbook is lying dead beside the other teachers in front of the fridge
The fridge from the opening also shows up, with the same character pictures (and Duck with a powerdrill, the one used for Stain in episode 2)
There’s a decapitated Duck with a TV where the head should be, which lines up with Yellow breaking the doll in the next scene
The symbols on the book are as follows: Red’s eyes, decapitated Duck and Yellow heads (Yellow’s showing him with wires instead of blood), Roy coin from Ep 1 with a worm, battery with a worm, shovel, Tony, and Yellow’s severed hand from Ep 1

Okay, so here’s something that I can’t believe I didn’t realize until I was getting screenshots for that previous post…
So the Kitchen/dining room set in the TV Show has this big picture right in the center of it, right?
Tumblr media
The thing I realized is, this picture actually changes in every episode, according to that ep’s subject.
The connection in the first episode, ‘Jobs’, is admittedly a bit loose.
Tumblr media
It’s a picture of a shoe, maybe it’s meant to be like the kind of shoe you’d wear with a business suit. Like the kind Red Guy wears later in the episode…
Tumblr media
On its own it does feel like a bit of a stretch but seeing how every other painting fits in with the episode theme that does seem to be their intention.
Episode 2, “Death”, is a lot more obvious, it starts out as a sunny day picture -
Tumblr media
And then after the funeral it shifts to another one of the many pictures of Duck.
Tumblr media
Demonstrating how Duck’s death is a cloud of gloom over the once-cheery atmosphere of the house in the earlier parts of the episode.
In Episode 3, “Family”, the picture is now a picture of two horses.
Tumblr media
In terms of the webshow I previously tried to link this picture into symbolism of freedom and independence with its use in the set design of the ‘Computers’ episode. But in this context I think this is less relevant. I would instead like to point out the implication that this is a parent-horse and a child horse standing together. In other words, this is a picture of a horse family.
Episode 4 takes place entirely in the living room so we don’t even get a chance to take a peak at what the living room portrait might be.
Episode 5 has a picture of a mountain view.
Tumblr media
Obviously this relates to Red Guy’s desire to travel outside the house and be free.
Now, the picture in episode 6 is actually a modified version of the painting in ‘Family’.
Tumblr media
The Horse Drawing now has a stormy sky, with a lightning strike that sets the pasture on fire.
Obviously the lightning connects to the theme of the ep, ‘Electricity’, plus it’s a tad bit more foreboding than all the previous pictures - which fits in with the tone of the episode. But the fact this is actually the modified Horse Family Drawing is very interesting.
Especially since at the end of the episode, once the house ‘reset’ -
Tumblr media
The picture has switched into the ‘regular’ Horse Family one. I wonder if that meant to indicate ‘Family’ as a sort of ‘sub-theme’ of the episode? Or like the secret ‘real theme’ of the episode? Through the trio’s relationship with each other and/or through Lesley's strange maternal-like relationship with Yellow Guy and possibly the other puppets?
Especially when you consider the Horse Family Painting is actually always the one seen in the Kitchen Shots of the opening… It might indicate something about DHMIS’ main themes?

For your daily reminder that we all think in different ways and it's not that you're permanently the odd or the misunderstood one, it's just that our brains elaborate and overall work depending on our personal history and general inclinations...
THIS IMAGE
Tumblr media
The desperate clinging to the object you really care about as if it were a lifeline even if there's not a particularly logical explanation; it's just something you've grown very fond of and that gives you a hobby/a nice time- THIS...
Is very comforting/empathetic to me.
Is it a puppet duck with void eyes hugging a shredder? Yes, yes it is.

Me before watching the new dhmis series: right, I think I’m done shipping fluffybird, I don’t think I like it anymore and there’s no way it’ll ever be canon or at the very least suggested in a clip

OKOKOK I JUST FINISHED DHMIS AND IM GOING INSANE HOLY SHIT
tumblr is the only place where my hyperfixations and ramblings won't make me seem like I've been trapped in a basement never seeing the light of day as I piece together a century long conspiracy. Apologies 4 the person I'm about 2 become . I'm gonna full theorist mode but I only have time to point out the puzzle pieces in d first ep for now cuz I got work in like 6 hrs :(( ill come bak n do rhe rest ltr feel free 2 add if u want
--
Ok so i was rewatching the eps again on my phone & collecting screenshots for my conspiracy board when I found this symbol in the intro 2 d first ep
Tumblr media
And I was like wait a min that kinda looks like d ones from the book so i went to see if was true and yep
Tumblr media
I don't know if there's anymore symbols scattered around in the other eps or if it was just forshadowing either way its making my brain vibrate. Has anyone else noticed this before? It's so cool
The other things in d intro that seemed a bit weird 2 me was the pics n letters on the fridge, the fact that our 3 guys r coming out of a clock house, and fuking roy looking into d house thru a hole in the wall. The symbolism and metaphors r there guys. I know it but Im putting a pin on unraveling that for ltr cuz I don't have time rn :((
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kept my eyes peeled 4 anything else n then I saw the similarities between the breifcase n his older bro and yellowguy and his imaginary older bro
Both of them were like stuck in the shadow of their younger sibs u know kinda left behind, like the smol suitcase felt inferior n could only watch as his younger was running around being bigger n better, the yellows fake bro was always stuck in the background while yellow took the spotlight,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and they both like lost their shit and injured themselves. The suitcase bro punched a wall n the fake bro literally comitted suicide. Maybe I'm looking to much into this but that kinda intrigued me a bit. Again I'll dissect to that ltr cuz I don't have d time 😔
So the 1st EP was about work & jobs right?
Noticed how like each guy had the same positions in each job?
Duck: (The judge, cryptocurrency, General, astronaut)
At 1st duck's jobs are more centered on power,on bieng a higher authority figure, someone who is respected, admired and successful. He views himself above the rest, he said one needed aggression to get ahead in workplace, (u know w/ the attention freaks part lmao),he narssistic, hes selfish, and is always strivings for better positions, better everything (the vending machine, wanting a better job etc)
He doesn't like this job, he failed at his work tasks, and no one is taking him seriously.
When the screen lady starts singing about stress n shit I was like hold up
First we see, him on the beach with a crab offering him pills. Relaxation=drugs?? An escape from reality perhaps 🤨
Then him walking on a tightrope with a bunch of red things under him (portraying his struggles with his inner demons maybe?? Showing that he is or was barely keeping himself from falling to them??)
Tumblr media
This whole thing. The line segments with the relaxing never being an easy straight line,(gotta go thru hell 1st b4 ur happy type of thinking??) And also the colors on the diagram. It's our 3 main guys. Red duck and yellow. (I'll dissect this ltr too no time rn😔)
Tumblr media
And this. The coins, (cryptocurrency?? financial issues??) The screw(shitty work jobs maybe) the crab(drugs) the red snake(inner demons?) And the green thing...idk what that is it has scissors n looks like its shushing(untold secrets/issues?) Maybe ita part of himself he doesn't like or harms him
Tumblr media
Duck is forced to like his job. He tries to go along with this whole bs, but he can't and snaps causing the hand accident. Is that what happened from before he was dead? Did he cause the death of someone? We know they all died at the same time different places. Then we see ltr that his jobs aren't as powerful as before, he is a mailman, hes a struggling artist, those jobs usually arent seen as impressive as say a CEO. Is this lore👀 could it be a bit of backstory for duck👀
Next we have Red: (Doctor, Barber, boss 2 whole company, horseshoe maker) His jobs are more concentrated on responsibility and expectations. A lot of ppl rely on doctors to help them out, a lot of pressure is laid on their shoulders especially with serious situations. With barbers you want them to give you exactly what u asked for, or at least something acceptable if u cant think of anything. Bosses are bosses. They're literally in charge of a shit ton of things. They keep everything running smoothly cuz 1 wrong move and everything starts going haywire. And horses need shoes to walk I guess
Notice how red is kinda... negligent? I wouldn't say lazy hes not. But remember how he would always want to do something else besides what they were doing? Or be anywhere else besides in the now? He didn't want to do anything at all in the 1st ep deciding to just chill. He didn't want to acknowledge yellows sadness in the Death EP, I guess he didn't want to deal with it? He wanted to meet a real fam, saying that the 3 of them weren't it. The whole road trip breakdown and "Im not going back to that house"?? Very interesting 👀
Yellow: (lumberjack, icecream man, fisherman, assembly worker, therapy patient??)
Yellows jobs r more centered on labor. They're average jobs regular ppl like u and me could get whenever. They usually don't ask for degrees or sumthn just experience perhaps. They might be easy, but there is a form of danger to them Lumberjack? You chop up wood dude, you could easily lose a limb or die. Ice cream man? Well you could always run over someone and uh, stranger danger? Fisherman? Fall out and drown or get lost at sea Assembly line worker? You saw what happened the same as the lumberjack (Trust me I work at a GE and ppl r always getting hurt)I got nothing 4 patient 😔
Besides the assembly one(I'm not counting it it was a lesson), the other jobs could be viewed as experiences.
Lumberjack- helping build the shack with his dad (Roy was there)
Icecream man- its icecream. lot of us go after that car. Especially children.
Fisherman- going fishing for fun, could be a bonding experience idk
Therapy patient- c'mon
There's a lot of shit I didn't cover but it's fine. Everything is so cool and fascinating I'm losing sleep to this whole thing. I'll talk more about it later I'm tired n it's 5am I've got 2 hrs to sleep.
Edit: yo I'm literally at work rn but I realized something. Yellows jobs are repetitive too. A cycle of things that are done a sort of loop. Lumber jacks, assembly line workers, etc etc usually focus on doing one task only, over and over whether it's screwing in bolts, chopping wood, serving food doesn't matter. It's repetitive, meaning you don't have to worry about changes bcuz there aren't supposed to be. You become accustomed to it, it's reliable.
This might've been a bit forshadowing about the way our 3 characters have to start the same routine in the same house again and again, a seemingly endless loop.
Did y'all notice how yellow was extremely against the road trip idea? And the death episode? He didn't want the routine to change. he didn't like it was confusing to him. And just when he's getting used to a change it all collapses on him. Man :(( this show is so cool fr I'll continue dissecting ltr gotta go now
