diaethria clymena the 88 Butterfly
One of the rarest butterflies in the world, hardly seen feeding on flower nectar because it prefers the juice of fruits that fall to the ground.
In its less dazzling life, when it is still a caterpillar, it feeds on the leaves of a shrub called pau-polvora, When it is seen in its natural environment it is feeding in small openings on trails in the forest, its back is black with bright sky blue details.
This is another specimen that I managed to attract to my backyard, I could not contain my satisfaction when I saw it again after many, many years.

Diaethria anna, also known as Anna's eighty-eight, is a butterfly in wet tropical forests in Middle America. Its upperside is dark brown with a metallic bluish-green band on the forewings. The underside of the forewings are red, which is followed by a wide, black band and then white tips; the underside of the hindwings is white, with lines that approximate a black-outlined "88", giving the species its common name. Its markings occasionally appear more like of "98" or "89".

some fucked up butterflies
Tumblr media
Diaethria anna, or the Anna's Eighty Eight. guess why shes called that. she apparently can be found in texas so look out
Tumblr media
Cymothoe sangaris, or the Blood-red glider. shes terrifyingly pretty. unfortunately only lives in central africa
Tumblr media
Heliconius charithonia or the Zebra Longwing. shes just stripey. apparently she can be found on central and south america, texas and california, and some other american states when they migrate in warmer months, yay! they are social butterflies and fly around and sleep together at night in groups of up to 60 butterflies!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
their caterpillars are scary because they have spikes to protect them from predators, but are harmless for humans to touch. due to eating toxic plants, both the caterpillars and adult butterflies are poisonous to eat
Tumblr media
Aglais io, or the European Peacock. scariest eye pattern wings ive seen in a while.
okay i ran out of butterflies 👍

Diaethria euclides phlogea, the 89/98 butterfly.
The genus Diaethria is confined to Central and South America - 3 species are found in Mexico while the remainder are widely distributed across the Amazon and Andes. The butterflies often frequent human dwellings, and are considered a sign of good luck by some communities.
The uppersides of all Diaethria species are black, marked on the forewings with a diagonal band of metallic blue or green. In some species this colour is repeated on the hindwings in the form of a submarginal band.
The 89 or 88 numerals which appear on the underside hindwings of clymena are present in all 12 of the Diaethria species but vary in colour, thickness and shape. In clymena the lines are quite thick, and the markings often form an '88' figure, while in others such as neglecta and euclides they are thin and form an '89'.
Diaethria clymena is quite variable in appearance - in some examples the black markings on the underside are thicker than those shown in the illustrations on this page. In several subspecies the black 89 markings are confluent with the innermost black submarginal line. The white ground colour of the hindwings often becomes dirty and brownish on older specimens, as illustrated below. There are 13 named subspecies distributed variously from Nicaragua to Brazil.

🦋Analyzing the Elements present on the cover of The Prisoner's Throne, sequel to The Stolen Heir from Holly Black.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The cover of The Prisoner’s Throne is this winter landscape with berries frozen in ice, a mysterious ring, and an alighting moth.”
Interview from Holly Black given to Cosmopolitan.
🦋Starting with Butterfly on the white version of The Prisoner's Throne cover.
🦋Diaethria anna or Anna's eighty-eight symbolizes "Abundance" and "Prosperity."
🦋On his wings, angel number 88 (angel numbers are messages from Spiritual Realm, providing guidance and information about our lives), the number of Karma (our actions and decisions directly impact our lives and the Universal Spiritual Laws of CAUSE and EFFECT).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🦋The dark cover of The Prisoner's Throne features a Southern Black White Butterfly (Melanargia ines), which means the opposite of "Anna 88."
🦋It means balance between two sides (Light and Darkness), new beginnings, transformation, duality etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🦋Winter means: sadness, heartbreak and loneliness, but it also symbolizes the end of many things. It could be the end of a relationship or the end of a character's struggles when looking to the future.
(The Court of Tooth, under the veil of eternal winter, is ruled by the Queen Wren).
Tumblr media
🦋Anyway, the Tanzanite Ring.
🦋It's a stone for new beginnings. It symbolizes prosperity, good luck and optimism for a future full of happiness. An ENGAGEMENT RING (theory) to carry love through the ages.

Throws god oc at you and collapses
Name: Cronys (she/her)
Species: diaethria clymena
God of flux, change, and time
Renounced her power like Haro, to be spared from Shamura’s massacre of the old gods
Still good friends with Haro
Consulted with Narinder about breaking the cycle of life and death
Favors Narinder and Leshy
Very cryptic
“It is not in thy nature to change, little one. But I admire the determination to try. Time is the one consistency in this universe. It cannot be reversed. Thou, however, may hold the power to reverse death. Go, little one, and bring forth the change thou seek.”

WAIT! WAIT! you already answered my first question in my previous ask- I NEED to change it! Please- new 1st question:
What is the funniest looking butterfly you know?
I need to know this.
OOOOOOOO This is a fun one! And don't feel bad about asking about my favorite butterfly! (My secret is I always have more favorites).
I know a lot of funny looking butterflies. Ranking them by how funny looking they are is a task for another day, so for now I'll just give you a few I can think of off the top of my head.
Anna's 88 Butterfly (Diaethria anna)
There is a fun little trend of patterns on butterfly wings. Some are eyes, which make sense from an evolutionary standpoint. Some are bright colors, which help with mating.
And ONE IN PARTICULAR CHOSE
Numbers
Tumblr media
yeah, idk get it either. They are funny looking little guys though. They mostly live in central America and Mexico, but if you're lucky you could find one in Texas.
2. American Snout
So, if you read the name, you may already have an idea of what this butterfly looks like. All I can say is that it definitely lives up to the name lmao. I mean, just look at that SNOOT!
Tumblr media
Just a funny lookin guy with a big schnooz. That big ol' conk. It's a think of BEAUTY!
And also comedy lmao.
3. Zeltas amasa
Where's the common name, you may be asking. Well, I'll get to that later. For now..
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS THING! LOOK AT IT'S LITTLE TAILS! LOOK AT IT'S LITTLE FACE! IT'S SO CUTE, AND SO RIDICULOUS LOOKING!
BUT THAT'S NOT EVEN THE BEST PART
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THAT! A BRILLIANT BLUE REVEALED UNDERNEATH, LIKE CINDERELLA BEING GIFTED HER BALLGOWN BY THAT TREE SHE CRIED ON!
Now, you're probably thinking, why is this on a funny looking butterfly list? I get that. This butterfly is a think of beauty.
Well, the reason dear asker, is because of the name that was gifted to this magnificent creature. This marvel among mankind had the name bestowed upon it off...
The FLUFFY TIT !!!!
