Unwanted opinion on Oak and Wren <3

So after finishing The Stolen Heir duology, I gotta say, I really didn’t vibe with Oak and Wren as a couple. Honestly, they felt super flat and underdeveloped. I get that it’s not a romance-focused book, but when you have a romantic subplot, you kinda expect some chemistry...and there was basically none.

Wren barely seemed to care about Oak, except for some moments of physical attraction, while Oak was obsessed with her even though she treated him like garbage the whole time. He’s totally invested, but she doesn’t really show anything beyond surface-level interest except maybe at the very very end. It was frustrating to watch, especially compared to how well developed other relationships in Holly's books like Jude and Cardan (who absolutely stole the show in the prisoner's throne for me) or Kaye and Roiben from Tithe (and those weren’t even the main focus of the story, but their chemistry was so much better)

That said, I still really loved the books overall. The fae politics were so interesting, and I loved seeing Oak all grown up, trying to figure out what it means to be heir to a throne he never asked for, but still would do anything to protect his family.

Ok ok ok guys I finished reading tithe but I can’t with Kaye and Roiben. Like in retrospect they’re so different to the point where you wouldn’t see them together. They’re SO DIFFERENT but it works!?? I love their chemistry

Roiben is so posh and formal aka like a faerie is and Kaye is so “fuck you fuck you and fuck you tooo” AND I LOVE IT???? They just fit each other idk how to explain it😭😭😭😭

Kaye and Roiben having a quiet moment 🖤 The Unseelie king has a blood red bedchamber and you can’t change my mind. I’m re-reading The Modern Faerie Tales, and it’s still among my favourite-ever series (although I was low key offended when I read that Roiben later cut off his beautiful pewter hair!).
