Blast from the past. I had a #renault4 model I found in the garden in an extremely poor state, regardless of that it actually looked pretty cool as it was so I wanted to find a project for it. While I was figuring that out an identical model came up for sale, it was missing its bootlid but they older ruined model still had it's boot lid which was promptly transferred to the 'better' model, this was sanded and painted, replaced the steering wheel and made some seat covers. Goodwill find- Ertl 1/8 Pontiac Firebird (I think) NASCAR

RESTORATION FAILED!

Sometimes no matter how pretty something is you just can't do anything with it.

This car was found in the Goodwill toy section under a protective display case that barely fit the base it was attached to, but it kept the body from being scratched. I thought it was a treasure at a bargain price of under $10USD. But I discovered the rear driver side wheel was broken.

The chassis was attached to the base with an insidious set of screws that the grooves were angled so they could only be tightened. It took hours to chip away at the plastic around the screws to free it.

I decided to take off the wheels and use them on another custom. I broke the wheels off in the process, ffffffffffff... Then I could not get the original wheels off of the car I had wanted to customize. Fortunately I stopped before breaking my Ertl 66 GTO wheels.

So then I glued the wheels back onto this car. But that LUNA DAMNED driver side wheel will not stay on no matter what I do.

So I'm scrapping it.

Lots of time and energy wasted.

I don't even like NASCAR after the 80s. They all look the same. I just thought this was pretty and might make a good Hearth's Warming/Christmas/Holiday decoration because of the deer on the hood.

Side note- the body of this replica is sturdy diecast metal, while real NASCARs are all stamped fiberglass shells of their former production car selves.

At their lack of progress, Antimony's superiors threatened to re-assign Blackarachnia to Diecast, an ex-mnemosurgeon. They obviously didn't want that. Their hands were tied. They went to their fourth session as scheduled, and this time, they attempted to be more civil. And they actually listened.

And they realised that Antimony's advice wasn't terrible, after all.

This car was created as part of the Car Masters: Rust To Riches TV show on Netflix.  The current owner acquired it from Gotham Garage.  The car is the real life replica of a Hot Wheels car.  The Hot Wheels version was designed by Ire Gilford, and the real life replica was created by Mark Towle from Gotham Garage.  Although not all parts on the car are working parts, the idea was to create a look alike to the Hot Wheels version and they nailed that right on the head.  The underpinnings of the car are from an 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, including the engine and transmission.  

The current owner of Splittin’ Image, Mike, runs a non-profit called Cars Against Crime. So I put a very beaten up old Majorette diecast car (I didn’t take a “before” pic, just imagine the right hand car but with scratches everywhere and a smashed-in windscreen) into a container with a rest of Dettol after removing the wheels, undercarriage etc.). The car was maybe covered to a height of one cm or so and that while standing upright (I used a rather small glass container), the rest of the paint stripping was done by the fumes in the closed container (obviously I scrubbed it down with a tooth brush, but it came off like nothing)...

So Lesson 1: You definitely don’t want to breathe in those fumes! Only work in WELL ventilated areas or better outside.

Lesson 2: Dettol strips diecast cars (at least the Majorette ones) like hell, no need for Polystrippa or other, even stronger paint strippers.
