Future things
I have officially accepted a job! I will be doing in patient TPN management and working with the GI group in inpatient. I am super excited, as this will allow me to use my skills as a dietitian, but do quite a bit more. I love inpatient rounding, and I have also requested to get privileged for line placement and NJ tube placement, which sounds like it should work out.
I knew the team before I interviewed, as I used to work in the same department (with about 250 other folks - big hospital), so I am happy that it will be a comfortable place to return to, but will challenge me in all new ways. I’m mildly anxious about my attending, but by the sounds of it I will work mostly with the fellows which should be wonderful.
In 6 weeks, I will return to my favorite city, and move in to the cutest duplex with the best dog around. While I was on rotation last month, I was able to go check out a place and signed a lease! It’s less than half a mile walk from my favorite spin studio, and a boxing gym that I will learn to love, as well as my fave coffee shop, great restaurants, and the popular place to go in the city for going out. It has the world’s smallest back yard, but big enough for a patio table and chairs, and a little bit of grass for my sweet pup, all enclosed by a privacy fence. It is literally surrounded by schools and a huge park, which, when I checked it out while I was there was filled with kiddos and dogs and looked to be a perfect place to take the Bean bag on long walks. In six weeks, I can unpack after a year’s worth of traveling month to month to rotation sites. I’ll begin receiving a paycheck for the first time in 28 months. I will have a home, and stability, and the opportunity to do the things that make me happy again (other than school... which did make me happy, but caused me to sacrifice a lot of “my” time).
Of course, I must pass my final EOR, summative, and capstone before all of that. And my boards, but that is neither here nor there. The end of this very long journey is in site, and I am so grateful for that.

Although her parents treated her well and spoiled her, she tended to eat a lot and ate whatever she wanted because her parents had let her, leading her to become an overweight child. Jiyeon never thought of it as a bad thing, but at a young age she didn’t know the world outside of her own home very well. When she started school, it was quickly clear that her appearance was not acceptable to the other kids who avoided her and ignored her and those that did acknowledge her, bullied her and picked on her, making Jiyeon’s life absolutely miserable.
Jiyeon never said anything to her parents about this, knowing that it would upset them too and being high class business people that were fairly well known, she worried about ruining their image or worse, that the whole world would become aware of the overweight daughter of a powerful family. Then it wouldn’t be just the kids in her school that picked on her and bullied her, and her parents would be embarrassed of her and wishing they had a son and not a daughter who could never stop eating.
For years, Jiyeon didn’t say anything to anyone. She did her best to keep a smile on her face but the more she said and did nothing, the more it motivated the other kids to get creative and bully her even more. She had made herself become an easy target now. When she was about 13 years old, she was surprised when one of the best looking guys in school started to talk to her. He was nice and had flirted with her and had even asked her out. Jiyeon was in disbelief, but she happily accepted this turn of fate and for the first time in what felt like a long time, she was happy. Of course, this happiness was short lived because Jiyeon had fallen for the boy but after a few months, it was revealed it was just another prank from the other kids. He had no interest in her, they just wanted to see her reaction and mess with her even more.
This was enough for Jiyeon. Things had gone too far now and Jiyeon finally exploded, letting her parents finally become aware of the situation. Not knowing what to do to help their daughter, they decided to send Jiyeon to Boseong, where her mother’s parents lived and owned a farm in hopes that being outside of Hwaryung would mean people would be more kind to Jiyeon and give her a chance for a fresh start.
And so, at the age of 14, Jiyeon was sent off alone to start all over again and hoping that things would be better. But of course, things weren’t better. To the kids in Boseong, she was new and different and from a busy city so they began to bully her and pick on her there too. At home with her grandparents, she would wallow in self-pity and feel sorry for herself and she missed the hustle and bustle of Hwaryung because where they were, there wasn’t much else to do.
Over time, she began to start helping her grandparents out on the farm, which required a lot of manual labour and because Boseong was known for their tea leaves, she drank a lot of green tea as well as a lot of green tea infused foods and drinks. How does food relate to inflammation?

"You can't prevent injury entirely," Cole clarifies. "The difference here is your resilience capacity: how you bounce back from an injury and your recovery time."
"I definitely notice when I'm out of whack," Nikolakopulos says. At age 14, Nikolakopulos suffered from an autoimmune disorder that paralyzed her extremities. Returning to dance against all odds, but having lost two years of training in the process, she put pressure on herself to catch up. "That's when a lot of inflammatory injuries started kicking in," Nikolakopulos admits. "And that's when I started paying even more attention to what I was eating—how I could properly fuel my body and help my ballet career, even from outside the studio."
Nikolakopulos says what used to take months to heal can now take a matter of weeks. "Food is absolutely medicine," she says.
Fine's go-to advice: "Have a food-first approach."
