Hey! So I know you said you probably won't be updating dinb, but I was wondering if you would ever consider making a post about where the story was going to go? It's my favorite fanfic and the curiosity is killing me lol. If not, it's fine!

Character poll: Twin ( sprite design

V1 is the original front side sprite, but it has some issues. Firstly, the arms are too short comparing to the original sprite(and considering Twin ('s height). Secondly, the hairstyle is too similar to Darek's, which is an accident. It's art style does seem to match the original sprite, but it just doesn't look exactly like Twin (.
V2 is the currently used sprite. It has it's own issues too, but the main one is that it doesn't match the original sprite style-wise. I believe it's because of the head, but shading + lineart might play a role in it too. It was made only a few months ago(1-2 months iirc?), so no wonder it happened. I have a hard time replicating my old style,,,
All characters will get upgraded sprites in chapter 2. Considering the fact that these sprites are going to be used only for prologue and chapter 1, what should I do?

I apologize for my inactivity. While I didn't document it, I was doing a lot of bug fixes and quality-of-life changes to the game(such as adding a cutting board in the kitchen and description indicators for tests), as well as new side content. To my knowledge, there should NOT be any bugs left(besides that healing indicator issue, I'm afraid nothing can be done about this one), but if you encounter one, please let me know! Unfortunately, ever since I got a job I've been feeling like I'm on the edge of getting sick. I'm very close to burnout and extra free day I got last week or-so wasn't enough to save me from stress. It makes working on the game very difficult, but I will not give up even if DiNB takes decades to finish. Hopefully, I'd do it a lot faster, but just in case, thank you so much for your patience and support! It means a lot and makes me keep going despite everything <3

"Dreaming isn't bad" is a visual novel RPGM Vx Ace game with elements of adventure and horror(and somewhat inspired by Yume Nikki and it's fangames). Currently the demo is still in progress. This side blog is created for game development updates.

DiNB prologue can be cleared in about 2 hours
by a new player! Depending on what choices you make, it'll take more or less time to complete. If you decide to 100% the prologue, it'll take about 2 hours and 30 minutes(Please note that I'm currently adding short side quests for prologue, so the final prologue 100% might take 3 hours!). I've also made some QoL changes. One of the most important ones: press A to skip text instead of shift or enter(Shift because it's also used for sprinting, which caused for text to skip too if you didn't stop pressing shift on time; Enter because it was a bit inconsistent).
Also I fixed a lot of text mistakes (and other errors) and added font files in the download folder.
The prologue is still being privately playtested by my friends but if everything goes well I'll make it available for download for my BMC supporters sometime next month? Once again, I'm also going to record a walkthrough and post it on YouTube :> Thanks to everyone for your support!!

Other than all of that, I've also spell-checked more texts, fixed positions of sprites, drew more item icons and edited a few events,,, Don't take it as a fact, but DiNB prologue could be finished in the end of this year or the beginning of the next one.

I'm currently working on my custom battle system! So far so good, the only issue is that HP healing updates HP hearts only after the enemy attacks the player. No clue how to fix it yet, but I'll try! I'll record a video of the battle system once I'm done with the graphics and bug fixing! Before that I'd like to just say that's the battle system is pretty easy, so don't worry about spending half an hour clearing them. Also, the playable characters are Darek and Agatka :D I didn't draw Agatka's sprites for the battles yet tho

Old vs New art: Teacher A-1 illustration

Why was it changed:
Original illustration doesn't match the current design of Teacher A-1;
The original illustration overall looked boring. Also it's clear that I just attached a hand to his normal sprite.
Note: The sprite I used for him in Spoiler-free character list is going to be slightly edited to match the new illustration(just the clothes).

Old vs New art: Main menu

Why was it changed:
The original main menu was drawn back in 2020 in Ibis paint. For some reason, the final drawing turned out just a bit blurry. I'm not sure why, but it had to be fixed;
Originally the game was called just "Dreaming", but now it's "Dreaming isn't bad";
New font + "Reminisce" instead of "Continue dream" because the buttons took too much space(It's not shown on the picture, but originally instead of highlights, there were arrows pointing at active buttons);
Character silhouettes are now clearer;
Black was changed to dark blue-purple to achieve softer look.

Small life update
Unfortunately, due to many reasons I do not have time to work on the game. Especially right now, when my financial situation is getting unpredictable. I'm dealing with a lot of things that come with adult life and it's very overwhelming. I will keep going, but at very slow pace until I can pick up speed again. Thank you for your patience.

As of right now, I speedran DiNB prologue in about 40 minutes. But if you skip through ALL the text and ALL side events, you should be able to finish it in about 30 minutes or less. With that in mind, if you dont rush and take your time to explore, the prologue will take at least an hour to complete.
Also I've spent 10 hours working on the game today,,, help

Check description for more info :> Since the video was recorded, I've edited the system a bit + added one more battle, but that HP not updating until enemy attacks thing is still here :'0 no clue how to fix it Also I rewrote dialogues a bit but I'd prefer not to post it(yet) cuz spoilers Prologue is about 80% done I think? I just need to draw and redraw a few illustrations and finish one event(which requires +-3 drawings?)
I've also tried to "speedrun" the game so far and it took a bit less than 30 minutes(it excluded side content and included me using an item to teleport). I believe if you take your time the prologue could take an hour or more(depending on how curious you are) :>

Old vs New art: Darek (after intro) illustration

Why was it changed:
The colors didn't match actual sprites in the original picture(Bunny plushie is too orange, bed headboard(?) is too light + wrong colors, etc.);
Wall pattern in the illustration didn't match the actual wall pattern in game;
Pillow was too big. Yes, that's one of the reasons;
I'm not sure how to explain it properly, but the body just looked weird in the old drawing??;
Black bars on top and bottom of the screen now match the ones used in the prologue(intro) cut scene;
Darek is now a bit closer to the camera because it allows for more details to be drawn.

World maps can be accessed using the tablet on the balcony of Darek's house and the tablet at the Center(seen in the video)
Other than that, I've been also working on redrawing old illustrations. Are you interested in seeing old vs new illusts + reasons why I've redrawn them kind of posts? So far there are... technically 4? illustrations that had been changed. (But if we count sprites than there will be way more than 4 *cries*)

To-do list(November 2023)
Notes: This list includes everything that needs to be done for the demo to be finished(No spoilers). It's impossible for me to do it all in one month, since I have a lot of other work too. Everything that I didn't do this month(and maybe some more things) will be included in the next month's to-do list.
In the end of November I'll reblog this post with everything that I did in a month in details.
Character sprites:
Update already existing character sprites and/or create new ones according to latest redesigns;
Illustrations and animations:
Finish chapter 1 cut scenes;
Replace placeholder pictures with finished illustrations;
BGM & SE:
Make/Find more BGM and/or SE if needed;
Text:
Rewrite and/or add some scenes for already existing events;
Continue writing chapter 1;
Other:
Draw mini-comics with DiNB characters;
Prepare content & schedule in advance(more info when it's all done!).
