The only difference, technically, between a school in the Zone? And on Earth? Is the American government won't recognize your Zone diploma...
Not accredited. But like..... I'm JUST SAYING? If you didn't try to pass your school off as some Big Ivy League type? Pulled the "oh yeah, you'd never have heard of it, it's local." And the COMPUTERS say it's legit?
How many people will dig deeper?
If you legitimately have the knowledge, you legitimately have the knowledge. Not YOUR fault you left out the whole "extra-dimensional" part. It makes folk nervous! And nervous folks get stabby.
So like? If you were ALREADY planning to "Move" as you euphemistically put it? Talked it over with your VERY concerned folks and friends? Who do NOT like the look of the steady but concerning rise of Anti-Ghost Powers That Be? Who finally put their foot down and reminded you that you are a TEENAGER and it's NOT your responsibility to fix the world?
Well...
Fuck those guys, I guess. You'll miss the old house, but Team "Taking our ball and going literally anywhere else" makes some good points. Why ARE you putting up with this?
And honestly, you've never SEEN your dad have so much fun. Him and the Reality Realtor just sorta... Vibe. Himbo to Himbo communications. Smatters of advanced physics. Fudge. It's great.
They move the portal. Collapse the old one in a way that makes it impossible to recover or recreate. You... kinda don't want to ask. They had that "mad scientist glint" in their eyes.
And while everyone's checking out brochures to different realities? You? Head off to the nearest College. It's the Zone, so technically you could go to any of endless billions. But you'd like your education some time this century.
Cue! Danny Fenton! Entering?
Academia's wet dream. A sprawling CITY of a college. Where the classes are on EVERYTHING and the price is FREE. People have Obsessions okay?? They NEED to teach. Debate and discuss! Study! Right papers and read them! It's been going on a while! And what happens when you find a subject that's NOT covered?
YOU COVER IT!
It's like if New York was a College. Good fucking luck find the dorms. Sleep on the floor like the rest of us, you casual.
Danny was Not Prepared ™.
He loves it though.
Classes on aeronautics next making the perfect sandwich, shoved next to historical basketry, stacked above alien slam poetry. But only on Tuesdays! Ever shifting. Breaking his Fenton Born Adhd in to a fine PASTE to be smeared upon bread. Happy mental stimulation chemicals go Brrrrrrrr
If it wasn't wildly inappropriate, he would LICK IT to claim it as his then wrap around it and gaurd like a territorial cat. He thought he HATED school! Turns out he just hated high-school. College though? College, or at least ZONE College, is fuckin AWESOME.
He's sit in SO MANY random classes just cause.
Picked up and dropped them at a whim. When they no longer sparked joy. He's been a flighty bitch and for once? No one CARES. No one says "you HAVE to commit and stick with this FOREVER once you choose this" and? It just? It's so FREEING! He's learned so MUCH!
He's probably gonna come back!
Which? Is how a deeply, DEEPLY weird aerospace engineer from supposedly bumfuck NOWHERE, end up working at Wayne Industries. He's.... a lil crazy behind the eyes. Ha ha... CONCERNING ™!
Dude sleeps on the lab floor. Has weirdly spotty knowledge. Can be an unprecedented genius one second and not know who the current president is the next. Doesn't know what DAY it is. Forgets to eat. Tried to make a fusion reactor out of the break room toaster before Sandra from accounting distracted him with pictures of her cat.
It's like he wanders through life blissfully unaware that he is both terrifying and about three seconds from killing them all. Then FUCKING TRIPS because he forgot to tie his shoelaces again.
Who hired this man?
WHY!?
I mean, we KNOW why. Probably to put him on a watch list. But? He's like a terrifying murder puppy! Built like a tank! That's stoned out of its mind half the time. And have you HEARD his college stories? That CAN'T be legal. Was this guy raised in a cult!? Aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!????

I don't know if I have many teenagers following me, but if I do, I want to tell you a story.
Way back when I was in high school, more than half my age ago at this point, I did a politics class mostly because my other two classes were with the same teacher and if I took that one it meant I didn't have to leave the portable in the winter. Which gives you an idea of how seriously I took my education.
For extra credit, our teacher wanted us to attend a local city council candidate's meeting. And he wanted us to treat it like an old 1930s election campaign trail situation. Posters, candidate ribbons, noise makers, the works. Now, he was also bribing us with pizza for after and for a fair number of us that meant a free meal instead of having peanut butter on a spoon for dinner.
So four classes worth of twelfth graders rocked up at this thing armed with campaign slogans we'd made up for our chosen candidates, posters, one kid had a bunch of glow sticks. And we freaking roared whenever someone would step up to the podium to start their pitch.
And most of the politicians ate it up. These meetings usually got fifteen little old ladies looking for something to do on a Tuesday night. We outnumbered them. We were taking up the whole back half of the room. Most of us, that would be our first year eligible to vote, and I guess seeing us there lit a fire under them. It went from 'This year's holiday light display should be blue and white themed, all in favour?' to 'This town is pretty nice, but it could be better. Let's figure out how!' Instead of the meeting ending after the last speaker and everyone grabbing some sugar cookies and coffee, it turned into a question and answer period. They wanted to know what we wanted from them.
We discussed how our little town turning more and more into a bedroom community or commuter town meant that job opportunities were leaving. How that lack of prospects for us was contributing to the rate of drug use and suicide. The epidemic of teen pregnancies was costing so many young women their education because they were encouraged to drop out of school. And how we needed things to do that weren't just sitting in the mall food court.
Over the next few years, things started to happen. The community centres started doing career training programs. Everything from engine repair to nail technician. The adult learning centre had a class that was all young mothers getting their high school diplomas. They built a skate park. There were outdoor concerts and music events. The hockey rink and outdoor performance stage got fixed up. A pretty big company came along and brought tons of jobs with it and suddenly we had opportunities that weren't either a burger joint or shovelling icing in the cookie factory.
This is all a long, slightly rambling way to say that while voting is absolutely important, if you really want your voice heard, show up to meetings. Make some noise. Tell your elected officials what you need to thrive in your community. Especially if you're in a small town.
#politics#canadian politics#canada politics#small town politics#small town life#i am 100% serious about the icing shovelling

I keep seeing the candy trauma salad videos again and I need to know if the girls ever decide on doing one lmao?
I think they would try to rope their dads into it but they would just simply stare and say.... no. But i can see them standing in the backround watching the girls telling increasingly more traumatising things at which both Steve and Eddie would have to stop and say are y'all good??
I think one if them definetly would say that one of their traumas is being adopted lmao
I love asking about yiur little universe and i cant wait for you to tell us more. Your story is quite literally my official headcanon for the characters❤️❤️
<33333
This is especially funny because Steve is a trauma-based therapist lol
Hazel definitely makes Robbie and Moe do this with her, and when she posts it, she adds the caption *trauma candy salad except we were raised by a trauma counselor*
They start with Robbie:
Robbie: Hey, I’m Robbie and one time a girl broke up with me because I was questioning my gender and then, like, almost a year later when I changed my pronouns back to she/her on Instagram, she DM’d me to say that she would be okay with us getting back together.
Robbie: And I brought the bowl *holds up large glass mixing bowl*
*cut to Moe*
Moe: I’m Moe, and me and my sisters were put into into foster care at birth and we’ve literally never known a single thing about our mom because she died before any of us were allowed to contact her
Moe: And I waited two decades to get DNA tests done, and then when we finally did it, not only did we not learn a single thing about our mom – literally nothing – we also learned that I have a different bio-dad.
Moe: It was probably the worst day of my entire life.
Moe: And I brought lemonade Sour Patch Kids.
*cut to Hazel*
Hazel: Heeey, I’m Hazel, and I did ballet for fifteen years and during the last rehearsal for my senior spring recital, my dance teacher said over the microphone with the entire company in the theater that I was the reason the show looked bad.
Hazel: And I didn’t know what to do so I just said thank you.
Hazel: Oh, and I brought gummy worms.
*cut to back Robbie*
Robbie: I’m Robbie and when I was fourteen I was in the senior orchestra class and we went to Disney for their music festival, and the second night we were there, one of my friends with a fake I.D. stole a car and convinced us all to go out and get drunk and go joy-riding and the car ended up on the wrong side of the highway and we flipped twice and I almost died.
Robbie: And I was trying really hard to be cool but I was honestly just excited to be at Disney.
Robbie: So that sucked.
Robbie: And I brought Nerds Gummy Clusters
*cut to Moe*
Moe: Hi, I’m Moe, and when I was applying to college, I had a male interviewer tell me that he didn’t think I could handle the engineering program and that I should choose something easier.
Moe: I had a 5.0 GPA and got a 5 on the AP Physics exam the year before.
Moe: But whatever.
Moe: I brought Starbursts
*cut to Hazel propping up the camera so Eddie can be seen standing at the counter*
Hazel: Okay, go.
Eddie: I’m Ed.
Eddie: *warily thinking about what he’s legally allowed to say*
Eddie: I failed senior year twice, and the third time, after I spent basically the entire year working my ass off – kind of – so I'd actually graduate, we went into a state of emergency in March and all the seniors got their diplomas by default.
Eddie: And apparently I brought *looks at bag* – oh shit, these are actually good. AirHeads Xtremes.
Moe, behind the camera: Didn’t you almost die during all that?
Eddie: Yep.
#liv’s steddie dads verse#hazel’s tiktok page#friendly reminder that adoption even under the best of circumstances will likely be traumatic in some capacity#I don't think Steve would like this trend very much but Eddie would get a kick out of it

For much of my life, so much media was made by men. Men with working class and military backgrounds. Chain smoking war veterans and high school diploma engineers and sleaze writers. Journalists who were 20th century journalists and not 21st century journalists. Men who were actually pretty familiar and relatable because they're like guys in my family.
This made me think, you know what would be great, if women made some of this stuff too. One day, feminism will win. We will get to be in the public sphere just like these same men. And now women do all of these things! Women with MFAs.
#the men went away but it doesn't mean that regular women now got to write!!#this issue is VERY VERY discoursed in 20th century feminism!! and by women writers!!#female creation in the 20th is fraught!! but it didn't get that much better for the women who didn't get to create *then*!#if it's gotten better it's hugely downstream of self publishing but we don't get to be part of the cultural taste making or narrative the#way that the 20th century men got to be#I think prole women in creative stuff end up making sleaze tbh and get shut out of the taste making#except in periods where sleaze is influential

Hurricanes’ Seth Jarvis leans into status as an honorary Harvard grad
By: Luke Decock, April 24, 2024
When Tripp Tracy was asked to speak at a meeting of the Harvard Club of the Research Triangle last week, he naturally invited the Carolina Hurricanes’ two other Harvard Men to join him. Jack Drury, owner of a Harvard diploma, class of 2023. Seth Jarvis, owner of a “Harvard Alumni” T-shirt, class of not quite veritas.
Neither Drury nor Jarvis could attend because of the team’s pre-playoff dinner gathering, but Jarvis was nevertheless welcome despite his self-proclaimed “Grade 6” education, because if there’s one thing that’s true about the Hurricanes’ third-year forward above all else, it’s that if you try to make him the butt of a joke, even a heartfelt, good-natured one, he’ll find a way to turn it back around on you.
When Drury returned from his Cambridge graduation last summer with the crimson T-shirt as a gift for Jarvis, he never expected Jarvis to cut off the sleeves.
He never expected Jarvis to make it his undershirt and wear it under his shoulder pads every single day of the season. For every practice. Every game. Every postgame interview.
“I thought, there’s no better way to put it to use than cut it into a tank top and wear it under my gear,” Jarvis said.
Seth Jarvis. Harvard alum. The shirt says so.
“There have been a few people who have seriously asked me if I went to Harvard,” Jarvis said, “and they’ve obviously never had a conversation with me.”
The Hurricanes have always had a strong connection to Harvard, through Tracy and his youth teammate and future front-office executive Jason Karmanos, through players like Craig MacDonald and Craig Adams.
They’ve had players from the rest of the hockey-playing Ivy League schools as well, other than Brown: Jeff Hamilton (Yale), Kevin Westgarth (Princeton), Lee Stempniak (Dartmouth), Riley Nash (Cornell). Now Drury. And, apparently, Jarvis.
“I think it’s been awesome,” Tracy said. “I would have liked to have had him on the roster.”
Even within the hockey world, it’s hard to imagine two teammates as different as the goofy Manitoban and the cosmopolitan Harvard grad becoming so close. Jarvis left home at 14 to play junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and was in the NHL by age 18.
Drury, scion of a prominent hockey family, spent two years at Harvard and another year overseas in Sweden; even though Drury is two years older than Jarvis, Jarvis has played more than 100 more NHL games than Drury.
The two are akin to brothers as much as they are friends or teammates, so when Drury gave Jarvis the shirt, it was with the best of intentions. Still, give Jarvis an inch or two, he’ll take all 200 feet, same in the dressing room as on the rink.
“I got it for him hoping he would wear it,” Drury said. “Using it as the undershirt, I love that. I didn’t know he’d do that. Once he started to do it, I thought it was awesome. He’s a character. But you couldn’t have a better guy around the room.”
Every single day, the shirt goes into his laundry bag to be laundered with the rest of the team’s base layers, an old-school throwback amid the sweat-wicking, high-tech gear.
By now, seven months into the season, as the Hurricanes head north for Thursday’s Game 3 against the New York Islanders with a 2-0 lead in their first-round series, the T-shirt should probably be in tatters. It looks just fine. Other than the missing sleeves.
“It’s hung on,” Jarvis said. “It’s high quality. Only the best at Harvard.”
At the end of the regular season, when Jarvis sat in on the Bally Sports broadcast with Tracy and Mike Mansicalco while sitting out Game 82, he told Tracy he would have liked to major in “micro-macro engineering” at Harvard, which sounds like a typical Jarvis malaprop, mishmashing economics and engineering. But it also could very well be somebody’s bespoke “special concentration” in Harvard’s engineering school, studying “theories of engineering principles” or the “interactions between microscopic innovation and large system models.”
Jarvis, with his elite hockey IQ and even quicker wit, may be more evidence that you don’t have to be book smart to be smart. He plays up the dopey-goofball angle because it gets laughs — “There’s still a lot of stupidity going on throughout my day,” Jarvis said — and won the Josef Vasicek Award this season for his quotability, but he’s the son of two educators, and there’s a spark that animates both his personality and his game, burning bright under all the self-deprecating humor.
“He plays a little dumb, but he’s pretty smart actually,” Martin Necas said. “I’m positive. He’s pretty smart. He just makes himself look like it on purpose, sometimes.”
Watching his game grow over the past two seasons, as he spent last year becoming a two-way player and this season reaping the rewards, it’s fair to wonder what would happen if he applied himself in the classroom as he has to his hockey career. Who knows what might be possible.
“It’s never too late,” Drury said. “He plays it up a little bit but he’s smarter than people realize. He’s got a good head on his shoulders.”
And the T-shirt over his shoulders to sort-of prove it.
#carolina hurricanes#seth jarvis#jack drury#underrated friendship!!!!!#what if I gave you a shirt from my Alma mater#and what if you wore it everyday

if papercut met in college i wonder what soda and darrys first reactions to curly would be (in this au curly wouldnt have grown up in tulsa) soooo hcs for that?
lets say curly was grew up in nyc cause im still rockin w my shepards lore here and many haitians moved to nyc and i will add as many self projections onto these characters as i can, i promise u that much
•ok look I KNOOOWWWW i made a post on what i think all the shepards could get a degree in AND IT TOOK A WHILE TO FIND IT BUT I DID ITS RIGHT HERE IF U WANNA SEE, id def fix some of these a bit but whatever, immmm gonna go w curly as an engineering degree kinda guy
•soda and darry def have way bigger respect for curly, MOSTLY bc they dont know how curly rlly acts and havent grown up w him, but also bc hes acheiving something darry and soda themselves cant, getting a college diploma
•SUPER rare soda and darry papercut shippers perchance??? its not 100% there, but everytime pony comes home they ask about “that boy mate of urs”
•but thats only for the first year of college, the rest of em??? we r getting back into the good ole curtis family and curly dynamic, bc pony tells them stories about what curlys done, plus they can hear curly in the background when their calling pony
•theyve talked to him before too!!!they dint get what hes on about half the time, but hes not THEE worst person theyve ever talked to, they like talking about where curly grew up, his stories r a lil fucked up but they like hearing a different pov!!!
•pony always sends pics home so darry and soda arent too surprised seeing pony grow and its curly who hels take em!! pony feels bad just having him take it thi so chances r they WILL see curly there too and curlys just on the curtis fridge
•thats actually how soda and darry kept catching on that they had a thing for each other, bc the way they were looking and touching each other in those photos??? darry knows that look,,,,,
•curly got bonus points for being pretty family oriented (especially from soda for being the middle child, ts aint easy)
•dare i say,,,,they finally see curly as somewhat as a good influence,,,,its about timmeee🙄🙄🙄, pony mentions how curly makes pony get to class, pony doesnt mention the times curly pulls pony away from his studies however and he never will
•i promise if curly was in college for entomology, theyd thing hes so odd for that, but they cant say much about it bc at the end if the day, hes doin things they aint, BUTTT bc here hes getting an engineering degree, soda (especially again) will ask him a lot if questions about it and how pony tends to surround himself w ppl who build/fix things, they all tease pony for that

The more I think about how a human, modern au Toy Soldier wouldn't work the more obsessed I get with TRYING to make it work and frankly there's only a few more loops in this self dooming cycle before I make a college au for all of them.
-
Okay I saved this post to my drafts and then immediately had more thoughts on this hypothetical college au. All the mechs should be as close to their canon events/back stories as possible to avoid having wildly different personalities (obviously there will still be very differing personalities due to not being immortal space pirates, but this would be easiest). It would be a extremely sketchy comedy of errors.
Obviously this takes place in community college because community colleges are just like that™
Put under the cut because it got a bit long.
Jonny:
Still killed his dad and the entirety of the casino.
Using the money he got from the casino and Jack to fund his way through a college hours away from his hometown.
Is constantly paranoid over someone coming after him for his murders or finding out that his highschool diploma is a forgery (he didn't finish his last two years because of said murders).
Ashes:
Being put through college by the Lucky Sevens, and still does tracking work for them despite only being able to physically visit their turf over break.
Smooth Mickey has only just started working with the Aces in Ashes' freshman year.
It is going to be a WILD senior year when Ashes breaks open Mickey's scheme.
Banned from the card games club.
Tim:
Transfer student from London that only entered college in the first place to dodge the draft. He never expected to enter college in the first place and is therefore woefully unprepared.
Wildly protective over Bertie, who transferred with him and is the reason he dodged the draft in the first place.
Not as murderous as the canon Tim, but certainly getting there over immigration and transfer laws in the US.
Still has the first name of Gunpowder.
It is gonna be a WILD senior year when he and Bertie get caught up in the Lucky Sevens debacle and Bertie dies.
Raphaella:
Nobody knows what major she's taking, because by all intents and purposes it appears to be all of them.
She's breaking into the chem lab and making lsd after hours to fund her way through college.
Has cute little wings on her backpack that she made herself, but in reality they're just hidden storage compartments that she's been using to steal lab equipment.
Ivy:
Nothing about her is different except for the fact her autism is diagnosed this time.
She works at the community library and the college library. She started her major in library sciences, only to discover that she already knew more about it than her professors, so now she's an English lit major.
Marius:
Also got in on forged documents, but his are significantly shittier than Jonny's or Ashes' because he didn't have the money to pay someone for it. Still nobody comments on the birth certificate with "Byron" covered over with off-color white-out and replaced with "Marius.
He also completely erased the gender category while he was at it. Again, nobody who actually looks at these documents is paid enough to care.
Still missing an arm and he has broken up AND started fights by hitting people with his prosthetic.
Getting his doctorate in computer science, but usually does not tell people exactly what he's majoring in when he tells people he's going to be a doctor.
Nastya:
Fleeing a Russian rebellion and very obviously comes from wealth.
Her backstory is the same, just without the robots. Her history of wealth and terrible attempts at hiding her accent are painfully obvious to everyone she interacts with.
Double majoring in engineering and computer science. Unintentionally breaks Marius' scheme open when she asks to copy his notes when she missed a day for a class they share (she would have broken it faster if she knew what he was doing).
Was assigned as Raphaella's roommate and she gets free estrogen in exchange for ignoring everything else that's going on.
Got dragged into the friend group by Jonny after he came over one day to hang out with Raphaella and they bonded over disabling circulatory issues.
Brian:
On the run from the religious cult he grew up in, which he was kicked out of because he got internet access and started learning about reality.
Still has a hard time believing most people he'll talk to will accept basic facts like "the Earth is a sphere"
Did not have to forge papers to get in, but he would later get recommended to a good forger by Jonny and get some restraining orders out of it.
Ambulatory wheelchair user (because it makes me happy) with an extreme case of moral ocd
The Toy Soldier:
Holy shit this bitch had a bad childhood
In a dissociative state a good 90% of the time and has huge sensory issues with the feeling of its own flesh
Goes by "TS" and adamantly refuses to tell anybody why.
Being put through college by their wealthy adoptive mother. Definitely lied about the college being prestigious and doesn't want to examine exactly why it did that or why it felt so soul-crushingly important to get out of the country.
Was adopted by the widow after her husband died at war. Was basically treated as one family member swapped for another and was expected to grow up in his image and to be proper.
Walking on eggshells 24/7. Orders might as well still be a physical necessity to it for how much of a compulsion they are. Will jump to do anything to appease the people around it if they show any indication of being upset.
Tim becomes its first friend because him and Bertie are the only other transfer students from London. It rather likes talking about guns with him and giving away all its care packages to him so it doesn't dwell on why they make it so uncomfortable.
Starts off majoring in military studies over the ages, but will switch to general music studies after meeting the Angel.
Spoiler alert: it will still kill the Angel after she gets into a relationship with someone else, but thankfully this just makes a wild junior year instead of adding to the already wild senior year.
Obviously they're all still in a band together. And they're the most dysfunctional friend group this poor college has ever seen.
