started playing disco elysium but instead of having a strategy mostly i've just been doing whatever's funniest. thus far i have failed to seduce the chick upstairs by boldly announcing "i want to have fuck with you," lied to kim repeatedly about having a handle on the investigation, pretended i know exactly who i am and what my name is, & given myself a massive head injury by sprinting away from the cafeteria manager in an attempt to skip out on the bill. also internalized a feminist agenda bc i'll skip out on my bar tab but i love women i guess. i have not yet gone outside or even viewed the body but i'm really painting a fond picture of who this complete fucking loser is. i will continue to make bad decisions as the game unfolds so. stay tuned i guess

Gonna be playing and liveblogging (haven't done that in a long time lol) some Disco Elysium for the first time today at like...let's say a little before 2pm-ish EST? :3

Cannot go on about it right now but the point of Kitsuragi is that the man has been so beaten down by life he is a little compressed tin can at the bottom of the recycling dumpster. His heroes died before he was born. He has been made to feel like the only home he’s ever known belongs to his enemies. He had to spent ten years of his life hanging out with teenagers. His philosophy has betrayed him. He has nothing left but just following procedures to the letter and praying that’s enough to do some good. He has nothing left to hold on to but the exact mathematical propriety he does.

This is why he works so well with du Bois. Du Bois cannot be saved. Any emotional investment you put in him will be sucked down a black hole. Kitsuragi has no emotion to invest. He helps du Bois strictly based on principle and while he does help him, it is not something he has a stake in other than a pleasant investigation. It is this distance that allows him to register du Bois’ flaws, note and judge them, but not get dragged down. In fact du Bois gives something to Kitsuragi if he can, not vice versa, he takes his excess emotion and wraps some up for him, he gives him enjoyment, he gives him trust, he gives him the uncomplicated love of a social human being for another which is something that Kitsuragi does not know. Kitsuragi does not, will not, and cannot try to fix him. This is strictly none of his business. Because of that, du Bois finally gets the chance to recognize and work on his mistakes in a permanent way. This is what is good. This is why any interpretation of Kitsuragi helping du Bois out of personal feeling is and must be incorrect.

Nocturne update: As usual I'll underestimated the time that takes me to get to the ending xD just checked the reccomended lvl for Lucy's fight and I'm 9 lvls below that 💀 (i mean i'm lvl 86 and recc level is 95) So yeah, there's no way I'll finish today lmaoo

I feel like that confrontation could have gone better;; I have a tendency to get bad endings and bad plot points first cause I miss stuff that would have helped, I feel like 6 people dying and getting shot was not the ideal situation

i'm tired of the game already but maybe tomorrow i'll have slept enough to pick it up and progress more. anyway all my choices so far have just been to be as wet and pathetic and useless as possible. it's turning out great

So, after years of just letting BioShock, Fallout, and Half-Life occupy the same space in my head, I am slowly separating out Half-Life because that's the one in the same world as Portal.

Also apparently Left 4 Dead and The Last of Us are also different games, which I'm only realizing because I just got Left 4 Dead 1&2 in a bundle, and people have been talking about The Last of Us because somebody said something dismissive and ignorant about it being the first nuanced/complex/plotty game.
