جُبيل من المدن الفنيقية المبكرة التي ضربت نقودا بإسم ملوكها بين 550 ق م  حتى 350 ق م ،  ( يهواملك بن يحرب بعل  450 ق م ، إيل بعل 400 ق م ، عُز بعل 370 ق م ، وأورملك او أديرملك 350 ق م )، ونشطت  باصدار النقود خلال الفارسية التي كانت  تهيمن على صيدا وصور بعد تدهور الاشورية الجديده،  و ذُكرت اسم جبيل في المصادر الفرعونية المصريه باسم "كِبْني" أما في النصوص البابلية فكُتِبت (جُبْلاGoubla)، وفي الآشورية (جُبْلي Goubli) أو (جُبَلْGoubal)، والإغريق اسم (بيبلوس Byblos) لعلاقتها بالورق وبالكتاب؛ أما في التوراة فوَرَدَ اسمها (جَبْلْ) واسم أهلها (جَبْليين)،والفنيقين نقشوا اسمها عدة مرات باسم (جبل)(GBL).، والصليبيون  نادوها (جِبِلات Gibelet). وبالتمعّن باللفظ تكون نتيجة كلمتين كنعانيتين-جِبْ- أي البيت، و-إيل- أي كبير الآلهة أو الإله الآب، وبذلك فهي تعني بيت الله، وكانت جبيل مركزًا دينيًا رئيسيًا في المنطقة ويرجع اسمها على الاغلب  لارتباطها  بالإلهة الفينيقية (بعلات جبل جبيل ) ويمكن القول انها الجذر الاول  .ووجد حوالي 300 الاف قطعة اثرية منها تابوت مصري نقش عليه 22 حرف فينيقي، و تظهر النقوش في ممفيس من الأسرة الخامسة (2350 قبل الميلاد) في مصر وصول الأميرة الفينيقية على متن سفينة جبيل للزواج من الفرعون. وبعد مجيء الرومان الى بيروت اصدرت الاباطرة الرومانيه  نقودا لها مثل ، كوموديوس ، وكراكلا، ماكرينوس ، وإيل جبليوس، جوليا سوميس ، سيفريوس ألكسندر.

Sidonian coins during Phoenicians and Roman periods

Sidon, a prominent Phoenician city, produced various coins from the Phoenician period through Roman rule.

During Phoenician period Sidon minted silver coins like the tétrashekel, particularly after Darius I's reforms around #480_B_C ., integrating Phoenicia into a broader economic system. These coins often featured deities and local symbols, reflecting the city’s maritime trade.

During Roman period , Sidon continued to issue coins, including bronze and silver types, during the Imperial period (1st-3rd centuries A.D.). Notable examples include coins from the reigns of emperors like Trajan and Elagabalus, which often depicted Roman iconography alongside local elements.
