I couldn't leave it there
I did my crankypants post. Now, let me talk about all the things I love about the doll collecting community. Well, some things. Otherwise, I'd be here all day.
Holy shit are you all talented. The customizers, modders, rerooters, crafters, and sewing people - I don't know how you do it. I mean, I have a basic idea, but the time and dedication spent on a hobby that's "just dolls" is absolutely astonishing. Every time I see someone using tweezers to lace up the world's tiniest shoe, I die a little inside - from joy, and from the pain of knowing the amount of time and effort it must have taken to make that itty bitty teeny tiny shoe - that most people won't pay more than $20 or $30 for.
(tiny roller skates really roll!)
And ZOMG you are so damn smart. Pick a forum, any forum, and you will find someone with a damn near encyclopedic knowledge of the sculpts for a particular line of dolls. They can just rattle that shit off from memory.
(someone here can probably rattle off every body in this pic)
Doll collecting knows no race, color, creed, religion, or employer. I've chatted with engineers, doll makers, chemists, computer/web people - you name it. Men, women, NBs, trans and cis, sometimes kids. If you want to learn about different cultures, go hit up Flickr and ask about a picture that interests you. You'll get a fascinating tale of the cultural history that collector is particularly interested in.
(I didn't even know Kurhn dolls were a thing that existed)
The amount of time and dedication it takes to learn to make a beautiful doll, and then the absolute misery of setting up a pre-order, finding buyers, waiting to get your stuff, doing MORE work to put the parts together, all while fielding email after email of "Is it ready yet?!?" means it's a miracle BJDs get made at all.
For my (hopefully occasional) crank posts, I hope there's at least one corresponding post displaying my love for this hobby and the people in it. So here's a post.
Mwah. I love doll collecting, and I love the doll collector community.

Yanderes who seem like Kuuderes on the surface… a calm, steady demeanor that draws you in with the false promise of safety and stability… or perhaps their demeanor is more like an icy lake. A cold and impassive façade more delicate than you realize— one wrong move and you’ll break right through, falling into the depths below.
You could be with them for years before you realize how deep and bloody their affection for you truly is. Imagine being years-deep into a happy, ‘healthy’ relationship only to discover videos of you from years before the two of you actually met on an old usb drive, or your spouse’s hidden murder basement…

do not ever get into collecting dolls because you WILL want to rearrange them all the time and you WILL get bored halfway thru actually rearranging them, n at that point u either gotta leave em in a huge mess or u gotta stick it out and try not to throw all ur dolls across the room in the process

ok actually building more on the idea of jigsaw apprentice grocery shopping trips and the various reasons they all suck at it (John doesn't go out bc he's too ill and also way too recognisable)
Amanda - It's not really Amanda's fault that she sucks at getting the groceries, she struggles with chronic nausea as a side effect of her sobriety so she ends up buying lots of small, bland snack foods and forgets to get actual ingredients for big meals. She does eventually start buying more fruit to make smoothies for John as his cancer gets worse and she flips her shit when she catches hoffman stealing it for himself later
Lawrence - Lawrence should be the best at getting the groceries but he forgets that basically only hoffman and himself can cook (and hoffman sticks to simple staple meals.) He buys a lot of fancy preserved foods and fresh ingredients assuming the other apprentices will cook with them only to find Adam eating feta out of the jar with a fork.
Mark - Hoffman is usually the one to actually get the groceries as he does buy a decent amount of food and he's an okay cook (he used to have regular family dinners with angelina where he'd cook her comfort foods.) He cooks a lot of pasta bakes and roasts, tends to stick to stodgy, hearty meals. The rest of the stuff he buys is usually microwave ready meals and those big chunky meat soup cans for big boys. One year Amanda buys him one of those super cheap kiss the cook aprons as a joke and he now unironically wears it every time he cooks.
Adam - They let Adam buy the groceries one single time and he ended up bringing home seven bags of frozen potato gems, four litres of mountain dew and a pack of darts. John doesn't talk to him for two weeks.

Dolls & Doll-adjacent Things I’ve Been Obsessed with This Month 💖 (plus links!)
1. Antu Dreamlike Teaparty Centaur BJD’s
I’ve thought about these constantly since they were revealed. They’re just so SWEET 🥹. I have a couple coming in this week, I really hope I get the purple one!
https://www.kikagoods.com/products/antu-dreamlike-tea-party-action-figure-bjd-blind-box-pre-order-in-2023-q1?variant=43787307057386
2. Ddung Clown Doll
Ddung is a Korean doll line I just learned about! They seem to fall between collector and playline— the bodies are study & the outfits are very detailed and well-constructed. This clown is EVERYTHING
3. Licca Chan Bunny Outfit
Okay so this is an outfit FOR a doll and not a doll itself, but oh my god look at Licca’s fluffy bunny outfit!! UGH!! Basic Licca dolls can be relatively affordable. Plus, the clothing sets usually fit rainbow high 👀
4. Dorothy Forest Spirit
These are figures more than dolls, but I just adore these little deer ladies!! I have the one with the green raindrop dress, and I bring her around everywhere to keep me company. Their sitting position makes them so easy to display!
5. Teennar Campus Blindbox BJDs
They’re fruit themed, they’re fashionable, and they’re SO baby!! There’s also going to be a series of figurines and a set of Sakura-themed recolors for this line!
