okay so happy pride month or whatever, no one asked but here’s my garrus vakarian dating history headcanon:

he has had 5 casual hookups pre-normandy, which isn’t a big number compared to his peers, and you’d think it’s because he’s an obsessive little freak who’s bad at being a turian, which evens out his good looks and swagger (and for some it does - cue some very frustrated crushes being forcibly stamped out because ‘really? that guy? he yelled at our superior last week in full view of the entire canteen’) but really he just didn’t notice half the advances made at him and the other half he turned down because he was busy thinking about important stuff (like gun mods, or cases, or math) and after careful consideration and weighing the pros and cons decided his time was better spent elsewhere. two of the 5 were with men, the other three with women, all turians. no repeats. he has had zero relationships pre-shepard if you don’t count the homoerotically-charged friendship he had as a teenager, one year before and one year into boot camp, before their very different abilities got them postings on opposing ends of the galaxy (read: elite sniper units on stealth patrol ships vs guy that assists the guy that fixes the lights in a backwater colony). he thinks no one knew about this, but his whole family did know and just tactfully didn’t bring it up. during the archangel years he has 1 hookup mostly because everyone tells him he’s so high-strung and needs to get laid more than he needs oxygen, but he bows out early on because his depression isn’t really conductive to the proceedings (read: she came but he didn’t.) this somehow ends up adding to the archangel urban myth, a true hero of the people asking for nothing in return, wink nudge, which makes him the butt of his team’s jokes quite literally until they all die bloody. he has never been in love until shepard, is initially unable to even categorize the feeling, and unfortunately for him, dealing with uncertainties and gray stuff and undefined parameters are about the only thing he’s actually bad at (besides the whole model turian stuff, if you count that as a skill). so basically his skill tree gets inverted as soon as he catches feelings. previous hookups would have described him as a gallantly attentive but emotionally unavailable, doesn’t save your omni-tool address but remembers your name kind of guy, which he mentions once to shepard. doing so is a faux-pas, though she doesn’t point this out and instead laughs uproariously because just that day he dented his newly-polished armor in his attempt to hold the elevator for her

These Bot’s hadn’t seen a triple changer before, so they are curious. The only triple changer they were aware of now was Blitzwing and he was a Decepticon. Buddy was an Autobot. They do ask some questions to Buddy, but they know when to back off on the more sensitive questions. They like the three personalities a lot. Plus, one of them keeps on giving out energon goodies! The kids will be a major influence on the bot. If they like the bot, they won’t have any problem. But, if they don’t think they are nice, the kids are going to do everything in their power to get Buddy to stop being friends with them. That doesn’t happen though.

This team takes one good look at the friendly giant and thinks ‘Yeah, I’m going to befriend them so hard.’ And they do! All three faces find a friend and they are going to keep them close. Buddy has only a number of bot friends, if the bot offers friendship, they are taking that to spark. Now being around Buddy will mean that some of ‘their kids’ are going to meet them too. Good news for the bots, most of the kids like Autobots, and by default like them. Getting the kid seal of approval.

This bot thinks it’s a good idea to start interrogating the bot on the spot. They must not have many braincells left if they think they can go up against Guardian. But even then, Guardian is not the one this bot should be worried about. It’s the kids and their parents that will defend Buddy with their dying gasp. They do not tolerate Buddy getting picked on by some stranger. The kids all secretly plan a series of pranks on whoever decides it’s a smart idea to pick on Buddy.

Since I've been on a streak of mediocrity in my reading lately, I decided to choose some of my favorite LGBTQ+ novels of all time for this post rather than keeping it strictly recent. (Trust me, these are better.)

L: The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould This is both one of my favorite YA horror novels and, coincidentally, one of my favorite wlw romances of all time. It's wonderfully creepy and good on the representation in other ways (mlm and poc), including a Gay Dads ghost hunting show that I fervently wish was a real thing.

G: I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson I love this book a ridiculous amount, and I've read and reread it enough times to have sections of it memorized. Noah and Brian's mlm romance is hugely complicated by the fact that neither of them are out yet, and it's one of the most beautifully handled mutual pining stories I've ever read--plus gorgeous writing, and lovable, heartbreaking characters.

B: Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales Representation is so important, and I've never felt seen in a novel like I did in this one. I love having a bisexual main character who has both male and female love interests in the story (but no love triangle trope, don’t worry). I’ve read books with bi mc’s before, but never one that so directly addresses bi erasure and not feeling “queer enough” to be in queer spaces.

T: Not Your Villain by C.B. Lee This is technically the second book in the Sidekick Squad series, but you should be reading it anyway for its excellent rep in the cast of main characters. Bells is one of my favorite trans characters ever, complete with cool shapeshifting superpowers and a sweet, heartfelt best friend crush.

Q: Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton This has one of my favorite poly ships ever with the three main characters: Mairwen, the witch, Ruhn, the saint, and Arthur, the outcast. It also includes spooky woods, lurking monsters, a dash of witchcraft, and some complex examinations of gender identities.

I: Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire It's hard to go wrong with the Wayward Children series, and McGuire always delivers on the diversity and representation. When Regan faces challenges in being intersex in the human world, she escapes through a doorway to an equine world that accepts her as she is, complete with major Horse Girl vibes, found family, and my personal favorite murder horse, the kelpie.

A: Radio Silence by Alice Oseman Oseman's prose and characters are an absolute delight, and this is one of the most beautiful friendship stories I've ever read, with one of my favorite asexual characters, Aled. I love the way friendships are never discounted as "less" than romance in this book, and there's an excellent celebration and critique of Tumblr/fandom culture.

+: Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller We know if there's an assassin character to be found anywhere, I'm going to love them the most. Sal is a genderfluid thief who joins an audition to be one of the Queen's Left Hand, a group of the most elite and feared assassins in the kingdom. There's also a clever, worthy love interest in Elise.

Ok so the premise of assassination classroom is as follows: kunugigaoka junior high is a private college prep school notorious for having an extremely hard curriculum and extremely smart students. It is a school of the elite minded, and all the students are faced with an aggressive pressure to excel. The school has a class for third years called 3-E, dubbed the “End Class”. If your grades drop too far, or you show behavioral problems, or disobey school protocol even, you will be shipped off to this class, which is located in the old rickety school building up a mountain and surrounded by forest, just off the main campus. These children can’t participate in extracurriculars, are given no facilities or accommodations, and are faced with intense discrimination and bullying from other students and teachers. They are used as a threat to keep the other students motivation high. You don’t want to end up in E class. And then one year, the moon explodes. The next day, class 3E’s teacher is gone, and replaced with a giant yellow octopus. This is korosensei, the being who blew up the moon, and can travel at Mach 20 speed, can regenerate limbs, and has plans to blow up the earth in exactly a year. His one request was to the teacher of this class for unknown reasons. The government allowed this, since they would then have tabs on him for most of every weekday. They want to kill him before his deadline, and so they tell the kids that since they’ll be around him every day until then, they will be tasked with the job of killing him. However, his teaching and the assassination motivation gives these kids hope and they actually begin to grow and progress. He genuinely cares about these kids and is an amazing teacher. With help from government agent tadaomi karasuma and assassin irina jelavic (aka professor bitch), these kids attempt to assassinate their teacher all while balancing their hellish school life and trying to overcome hardships.

My au is about toya if he were in this class. He is just beginning his rebellion against his father, and is just learning how to navigate it. He begins to do whatever he can to defy his father, and so he purposefully starts failing classes to distance himself from the image of what his father wants him to be. A lot of his personal development comes from realizing that he is his own person, and he doesn’t have to sacrifice things that he loves or that is a part of him just because it’s related to his father.

Also I am going with that white hair from stress hc I saw awhile ago because I LOVE it, so as the year goes on his hair lightens a lot until it’s almost at the point it is in canon by the end of the year. And also. Toya is interesting. Especially in middle school and as a child. I think his time with tsukasa and saki is very formative to him, and he really internalizes a lot of what tsukasa says since he idolizes him so much. He’s very… pure of heart for lack of better term. He believes at first that they can convince korosensei not to blow up the earth by showing him love and friendship, and is almost optimistic in a lot of ways. He clashes a lot with the more realistic and pessimistic members of the class due to this. Also, at one point the class learns parkour to aid in their assassinations, and I like imagining toya because of his fear of heights lol. I think he’d be really good with both knives and guns, but is a sucky sniper because he gets scared when he’s up on the perches. He has relatively weak bloodlust, at least when compared to someone like karma or nagisa, but he’s very talented at channeling what he does have. He can think of spectacularly creative assassination plots but a lot of them aren’t very… realistic and thus are near impossible to pull off. He’s one of the smartest in the class, but stays as one of the lowest ranked for a very long time until he finally decides to put his father behind him and not let him ruin his future like that.

Same gender

Sophie and Biana- They stuck by each others sides all throughout Neverseen to Legacy. It just makes sense. I would also say that Biana quickly forgave Sophie for the storage house situation. They are 2 girls that relay on each other and have been to hell and back together.

Keefe and Fitz- They have been best friends for years now. It just makes the most sense that they would be roommates. They understand each other and could rant about how much they love Sophie to each other.

Marella and Linh- Water and Fire. Our classic ship. They click as opposites and seem to work amazing together. I could go on but Marella would definitely try to distract Linh from her work. That is for sure.

Dex and Tam- Two of Sophie’s closest friends in my opinion. They would just click. I have no reason why but they would also work in comfortable silence together. They also seem to be friends in Stellarlune as well. Both not being mad at Sophie.

Opposite gender

Biana and Fitz- Chaos siblings. Biana will probably go annoy Sophie and Tam or Dex and Marella. She will annoy anyone. Fitz on the other hand will make a hideout under his bed and do all his school work there.

Sophie and Tam- I am a platonic Sotam girly so this may be bias. They just work and would actually let each other get there work done. It just makes so much sense to me.

Dex and Marella- We can see that they have a close friendship in the first few books. They also easily build it back up in Lodestar. Don’t fight me here for my opinion.

Linh and Keefe- I know this seems like a bit of a stretch but I am a stan for Linh and Keefe as friends. Linh would definitely be able to comfort Keefe about family problems. As well as about his dangerous abilities.

TOP 10 TV SHOWS I WATCHED IN 2022

1. PANIC on amazon prime

i watched ‘panic’ at the very beginning of 2022, and have since rewatched it twice. i’m still surprised how it stuck with me and became one of my favorite shows, because typically i prefer more light-hearted stories. 

the idea of teenagers playing this high stakes life-threatening game is so intriguing. the mystery behind who started and runs this tradition adds so much suspense. there’s also the additional layer of poverty and family issues that’s pushing the main character. it’s so interesting to explore the characters’ motivations, their reactions to pressure. it makes for a colorful complex story. and, of course, what sells it is the main romance. the chemistry between the characters is off the charts!! (not me thinking i wouldn’t ship them before seeing the show phaha). 

even though ‘panic’ was cancelled after season 1 (which, sadly, is true for most of my favorite tv shows), i believe there’s a satisfying finality to the season that makes it work as a stand alone story.

2. QUEER AS FOLK on peacock

pure queer joy is what this show is. i’ve only experienced this level of happiness while watching “genera+ion” (which is my favorite show ever). and yes, “queer as folk” is more adult because - duh - it’s about adults, and one teen character. in a lot of ways it’s about forming your community and keeping it safe. it takes on serious issues, the characters are messy and make mistakes, yet it feels so warm and comfortable, like a home.

i’ve never seen the original show so i’m judging this show from a non-reboot perspective (which i’m pretty sure it is anyway, even though you can make parallels between some characters, it’s a new different story).  

trigger warning: there’s a mass sh**ting scene in the first episode (it’s not very graphic).

3. HEARTBREAK HIGH on netflix

the new aussie it show, move over h2o just add water! okay i’m joking, but heartbreak high really took over the world as it should have! it’s a diverse well-written gen z teen drama with amazing fashion. 

what you can expect: a lot of dramaaa, secrets & unexpected twists, sex scenes that don’t sexualize teenagers, actual ace representation (i’ve only seen it done this well in “genera+ion”), probably the best autistic representation i’ve ever seen, exploration of some dark themes (assault, police brutality) that are unfortunately a part of reality for a lot of teenagers, beautiful friendships and romantic relationships, teen angst and rebellion.

i fell in love with these characters and their dynamics, i can’t wait for season 2! plus, it turns out there was a lot of australian things i didn’t know about, so it was very cool to see australian culture represented in this fun bright series. 

4. REBELDE on netflix

look at all these pretty faces and tell me you don’t want to know more about them. this show is one hell of a fun ride. it’s like elite mixed with violetta. there’s so much colorful potential in almost (looking at you esteban) all of these characters. they fight, they perform, they’re friends, rivals and lovers, and for the big moments they’re each other’s family. they’re rebelde. i want to steal their wardrobe and be their groupie.

5. WEDNESDAY on netflix

not suprised this show became such a hit, but i’m glad i watched it when it came out without any preconceived expectations. the style of this show is amazing and it’s an entertaining watch. there can’t be enough praise for jenna ortega’s performance. she’s outstanding in everything she does, and she carried this show.

6. HEARTSTOPPER on netflix

this is a fluffy warm ball of sunshine. comfort at its finest. i’m so happy this show exists and people talk about it. i just want to give every character a hug. oh, and i want those cute doodles in my life. 

7. THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY on amazon prime

such a cute summer show. i think the creators did a great job of adapting the book for the modern young audience. it could’ve easily turned into another kissing booth with a “not like other girls” protagonist. even though you can see the original outline of the characters, they feel more evoled in the show. and that’s what i hope will happen to the story later on as well. i like when adaptations improve on given material and find their own identity. 

i did’t really like nor understood the ending so i’m kinda tense about season 2. if it’s gonna turn into a belly x conrad love show, i’m gonna have to head out, and demand a jeremiah spin off (#teamjeremiah). 

8. SINGLE DRUNK FEMALE on freeform

so this is one of the more underrated shows on this list. it’s a dramedy that follows a young woman battling her addiction in a town full of people who are right there to remind her why she drinks. sam makes quite an appealing lead character. she’s messy, she’s selfish, she’s confrontational, but she longs for real meaningful connections, even though she’s afraid of them. there’s a diverse array of characters who go on this journey with her, and i love every single one of them. i think this show has a very good trailer actually, helps get the feel of the show and what it’s about.

9. DOLLFACE on hulu

such a beautiful entertaining show about female friendship and finding yourself outside of a relationship. the cast is incredible, including kat dennings as the jilted ex, brenda song and shay mitchell as her estranged besties, matthew gray goobler as a love interest, and brianne howey and lilly singh as a nice bonus on the side. 

the part that makes this show so unique is the daydream sequences that follow the main character. it shifts the rules of the world, makes it more fantastic and unpredictable. makes me wish i could get on a bus with the cat lady that would take me to my friends.

10. HEATHERS on amazon prime

no matter how much you like the original movie, THIS heather squad is way more memorable and charismatic. who wouldn’t want to watch an edgy dark comedy about teen phychopaths whose whole identity is “i’m not like the other people, i’m weird, i’m a weirdo”, toxic friendships, murderous romance & tumblr fashion circa 2016? maybe i’m just build different if it’s my jam and not yours. 

seriously though, i unapologetically loved it. kinda reminds me of “the scream queens” (which is outstanding) and “insatiable” (which i couldn’t get into).

Truss learns the hard way that Britain isn’t America

Reaganism is a good idea, but Reaganism without the dollar isn’t

Into Brideshead Revisited, near the middle, Evelyn Waugh crowbars a scene on a cruise ship for the express purpose of mocking Americans. There is a character named “Senator Stuyvesant-Oglander”. Each and every drink has ice in it. No one is able to tell friendship from desperate bonhomie. The crustiest of England’s great novelists wrote better stuff, no doubt, but the passage is an illuminating fragment of a time when anti-Americanism was a Tory thing.

And one that had its uses. If nothing else, Britain’s establishment was clear back then that America was a different country. A midsized archipelago couldn’t look to a resource-rich market of continental magnitude for governmental ideas.

If anti-Americanism was bad, look what its opposite has done. Britain is in trouble because its elite is so engrossed with the US as to confuse it for their own nation. The UK does not issue the world’s reserve currency. It does not have near-limitless demand for its sovereign debt. It can’t, as US Republicans sometimes do, cut taxes on the hunch that lawmakers of the future will trim public spending. Reaganism was a good idea. Reaganism without the dollar isn’t. If UK premier Liz Truss has a programme, though, that is its four-word expression.

So much of what Britain has done and thought in recent years makes sense if you assume it is a country of 330mn people with $20tn annual output. The idea that it could ever look the EU in the eye as an adversarial negotiator, for instance. Or the decision to grow picky about Chinese inward investment at the same time as forfeiting the European market. Or the bet that Washington was going to entertain a meaningful bilateral trade deal. Superpowers get to behave with such presumption. Why does Britain think that it can, too? Don’t blame imperial nostalgia. (If it were that, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal would show the same hubris.) Blame the distorting effect of language. Because the UK’s governing class can follow US politics as easily as their own, they get lost in it. They elide the two countries. What doesn’t help is the freakish fact that Britain’s capital, where its elites live, is as big as any US city, despite the national population being a fifth of America’s. You can see why, from a London angle, the two nations seem comparable. Reaganism without the dollar: this isn’t one woman’s arbitrary whim. It is the culmination of decades of (unreciprocated) US focus in a Robert Caro-hooked Westminster. You would think from British public discourse that Earth has two sovereign nations. If the NHS is fairer than the US healthcare model, it is the world’s best. If Elizabeth II was better than Donald Trump, monarchy beats republicanism tout court. People who can’t name a cabinet member in Paris or Berlin (where so much that affects Britain, from migrant flows to energy, is settled) will follow the US midterms in November. The EU is a, perhaps the, regulatory superpower in the world. UK politicos find Iowa more diverting. The left is as culpable as Truss. From 2010 to 2015, critics of “austerity” urged the Tories to take the softer US approach. The cross-Atlantic comparison implied that then prime minister David Cameron had King Dollar behind him. Soon after came the importation of identity politics from a republic with a wholly different racial history. The anti-Americanism of the Waugh generation was petulant. It was sourness at the imperial usurper dressed up as high taste. But at least it had no illusions. The snobs understood that America was alien, and inimitable. Tories who patronised the US — Harold Macmillan, Ted Heath — were quicker than much of the Labour party to see that Britain belonged with Europe. Truss and her cohort of Tories have none of that snide but ultimately healthy distance from the US. Take her vaunted supply-side revolution. Like all armchair free-marketeers (she has never set up a business) she believes her nation is a blast of deregulation away from American levels of entrepreneurial vim. It isn’t. The creator of a successful product in Dallas can expand to LA and Boston with little friction. The UK doesn’t have a market of hundreds of millions of people. (It did, once, but the present chancellor of the exchequer voted to leave it.) Someone who glides over that point is also liable to miss the contrasting appeal to investors of gilts and Treasuries. Some readers balked last month when I wrote that Truss might not last until the next election. Even I didn’t think she would trip so soon. It is a kind of patriotism, I suppose, to mistake your nation for a superpower.

The characters Rachel, Chandler, and Joey were NOT done on purpose, I didn’t realize I did it until much later and yes, Friends IS one of my favorite shows 

Incase you didn’t know, Bradley and Neilson are best friends (yes I’m aware of how much I have them refer to each other as such) their relationship is modeled after Brian and Nick’s during the early days of BSB when they were super close

We all have of a need to protect those we love most. Like protecting your younger sister from the dangers of the outside world (“Anansi”) or saving your daughter from heartbreak (“Weredad”) or even keeping your partners secret about their terminal illness (“Guiltrip”). We have good intentions, but sometimes we get carried away and it ironically ends up hurting our loved ones. The Turtle Miraculous represents stability, longevity, and (what else!?) protection all of which was bestowed to Master Fu longer than a century to uphold that meaning and borrowed occasionally by Nino. It’s shielding power is used as a defense move from attacks to protect loved ones and in the hands of an enemy, it’ll be tough. Who gets that power? Let’s see:

*Protection-Say! How goes the S.S Adrienette!? Doin’ good? Cool breeze, calm waves, clear skies, oh that’s nice, except the only problem is the sailing is boring as f*ck cuz they still have yet to have their “moment” together and the shippers on board are being rather intrusive about it. (yawns) We have our ship after so long and now we feel like jumping into open water😒.

Another thing about intrusive shippers is how Gabe and Tomoe are shocked to discover that their ship, Adrigami, is parked beautifully next to the Titanic. Well, it’s you guy’s fault for not being involved with your children’s lives to notice too late that they broke up a season ago! (“Lies”) That’s all on you! They try to salvage Adrigami with Gabe saying Adrien and Kagami are of “the same design” and Tomoe making Kagami regrow her feelings for Adrien. Guys, don’t rock the boat! They also mentioned a certain “ball” for the high elite (that we were spoiled by last year *cough*”Emotion”*cough*) and that they want their kids to be the “perfect couple” there and need to quicken the event before it’s “night-night” forever for Gabe (he finally told Tomoe).

It gets worse when Lila gets involved as well, thanks to her weaseling her way into a friendship with Kagami (“Perfection”), and manipulates Kagami into thinking Marinette used her (Kagami) into winning over Adrien which upsets Kagami to become, with the Turtle Miraculous power, Riposte Prime, where she believes she’s “protecting” Adrien from Marinettes “manipulation”. It’s basically her first akumatized form except she has both arms carrying a sword instead of one of her arms being a sword. Lame! They took the one good thing about her first look, the one good thing! That I personally loved, by just letting her have two boring a** arms and traditionally carrying a sword! :P. Worst.Upgrade.Ever! Even her power with the Turtle Miraculous was pathetic! Sure it trapped people in red shield bubbles, but freed them when Riposte Prime would target a new victim! It was “Chameleon” all over again! Double :P! I’m so disappointed😒.

No hate on the long waited Adrienette ship. We’ve been dying for this to happen since the very beginning and even though we’re happy it’s finally happened, it’s awkward cuz the two don’t know how to express themselves romantically. The serenading didn’t work (“Perfection”), they talked to Luka about their troubles (“Migration”) and even though Adrien said he would wait when Marinette was ready (“Derision”), they’re just dating with nothing significant goin’ on! The problem is their shippers. They’re protecting their ship cuz they’ve done so much from the show to build it, knock a bottle on it and have it sail that they don’t want all that hard work to have been for nothing, but the classmates, the majority of Paris and the fandom try too hard to keep Adrienette afloat by making it entertaining that they (Adrienette) don’t have time to just be themselves and let their romance blossom naturally. It would’ve worked had it not been the anti-shippers staging a c*ckblocker on ‘em. Ships have haters, for Adrienette, those haters are Chloe, Sabrina (kinda), Lila and now Gabe/Monarch and Tomoe. You thought the dynamic duo were having a hard time with their arch enemies!? Well it also looks like they got some in their civilian forms too! Gabe and Tomoe are like this🤞. Waaaay back since “Animaestro they had important paper work planned out and what was it for? The whole business ordeal with the alliance rings when we found out Tomoe knew Gabe was Monarch? (“Multiplication”) OR an arranged marriage!? (gasps). Interesting, Adrien said Gabe and Emilie were from “different worlds” and yet they were happy. Does this mean Gabes new money? Could explain why one of his old designs were a French fry suit (“Psychomedian”) and how he was discovered by already rich and famous fashion designer Audrey Bourgeois (“Queen’s Battle Part 1:Style Queen”). So now they think they’re “protecting” their ship cuz they need their children together just cuz of their classist attitudes! Why can’t they just let them be happy!?
