Eddie’s self-sacrifice is meant to show he was done running away from his problems.

Billy’s self-sacrifice is meant to be somewhat of a (last-minute) redemption for him.

If Will were to sacrifice himself in the final season, what exactly would that show for his character?

Will has been putting himself before others since the first episode when he cast fireball instead of protection. He was more worried about Jonathan’s hand when he finally escaped hell. He gave up his feelings for Mike because he thought it was best for Mike and El.

So if Will sacrifices himself yet again, what growth in character would that show? What lesson will it show that he has learned? How would this show movement in his character arc? How would this “redeem” him, a character who doesn’t need to be redeemed? The character who constantly puts others needs before his to the point where it hurts him, should continue to do so? Don’t make me laugh.
