The PDF file format supports Javascript with its own separate standard library. Modern browsers (Chromium, Firefox) implement this as part of their PDF engines. However, the APIs that are available in the browser are much more limited.

It turns out that old versions of Emscripten can compile C to asm.js code that will happily run inside the limited JS runtime of the PDF engine. I used the doomgeneric (https://github.com/ozk...) fork of the original Doom source, as that made writing the IO fairly easy. All I had to do was implement a framebuffer and keyboard inputs.

Unlike previous interactive PDF demos, the output for DoomPDF is achieved by creating a text field for each row of pixels in the screen, then setting their contents to various ASCII characters. This gives me a 6 color monochrome display, that can be updated reasonably quickly (80ms per frame).

A Doom. Alig kezdődött meg a 2025-ös év, máris szoros a verseny a legelmeroggyantabb - vagy épphogy legzseniálisabb - Doom portok versenyében.

AI ide, quantumszámítógépek oda, az informatika sarkcsillaga továbbra is a Doom portolása a leglehetetlenebb eszközökre. Az elmúlt hetekben három meglepő platformon is sikerült elindítani a játékot, ami újra rávilágít a klasszikus shooter hihetetlen népszerűségére és a programozók kreativitására.

A "DoomPDF" névre keresztelt projekt - melyet egy középiskolás diák hozott tető, vagyis inkább dokumentum alá - lehetővé teszi, hogy a felhasználók közvetlenül egy PDF dokumentumban indítsák el és játsszák a játékot. A port a PDF-ek JavaScript támogatását használja ki. és tény, hogy az ASCII karakterekből kirajzolt grafika nem a legszebb, cserébe a játék a legtöbb modern böngészőben futtatható.

És ha már böngésző: Pedro Webber programozó egy újabb szokatlan helyre, a Google keresősávba portolta a Doomot. Webber egy Python-alapú verziót importált a keresősávba, és sikerült a játékot PS4 kontrollerrel irányíthatóvá tennie. A DoomPDF-fel közös vonásuk, hogy ez a verzió is színek nélkül és alacsony képkockaszámmal fut.

Másfajta kreativitást igényel és sokkal inkább múlik a hardveren, de az Apple Lightning-HDMI adapteren futó Doom talán a legmeglepőbb a három platform közül. A trükk kivitelezéséhez az adapter dedikált videojel feldolgozó rendszerchipjét és a rajta futó egyszerűsített, iOS alapokat tartalmazó szoftvert kellett kicsit "megbabrálni".

És igen, mind emlékszünk még a terhességi teszten futó Doomra, de ezek a portolások már csak azért is vadabbak, mert annál az esetnél a tesztcsík megjelenítőjét és processzorát is kicserélték, szemben mondjuk az adapterrel, ahol az eszköz számítási kapacitását használták ki.

La más famosa de todas es la del fabricante de lágrimas, un misterioso artesano culpable de haber forjado todos los miedos y las angustias que habitan en los corazones del ser humano. Pero no cumplirá su sueño sola ya que la familia adoptiva acogerá también a Rigel, un niño de rostro angelical pero que oculta algo oscuro en su ser. Aunque ambos compartan un pasado en común, la convivencia entre ellos parece imposible. Sobre todo, cuando la leyenda vuelve a aparecer en sus vidas y el fabricante de lágrimas se convierte en algo muy real.
