so far all I can find is that traveling sets of cutlery/flatware were common until the 17th-18th century when lords started including them at their dinner parties
nothing about if commoners also had travel sets or if taverns/pubs offered them pre 17th century. I would guess no since there was so much prestige with flatwares but no definitive answer
#the problem with being interested in common life in the past is how it's not as well documented as lords and royals#personal

Spin this wheel first and then this wheel second to generate the title of a YA fantasy novel!
(If the second wheel lands on an option ending with a plus sign, spin it again)

please make sure that wherever you’re at in life, you don’t treat it like a transitory period. don’t waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. don’t waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while it’s important to better yourself and reach for your goals, don’t neglect the present because that’s where you are now and it’s your now that determines your future.
#text#something that took me a while to understand#like I can have goals but that doesn't mean I can't live before that

Can you talk some about rondels? You said a couple times that they were anti armor weapons but im having some triuble visualizing that. I dont imagine they would punch through the metal, so were they supposed to slide through the gaps? And why would it need to be like that in order to do so?
You’re right that they couldn’t punch through plate, no handheld weapon of the period could. The function of the rondel dagger was, at grappling range, to press into the gaps in the armor unprotected by plate. The important note here is that, while those areas are unprotected by plates, they are still usually defended by maille.
While not as impervious as plate, maille is still an exceptional form of armor. Breaking well made maille links is a difficult task, so the hypothesis is that the rondel dagger has its eponymous disks to provide a comfortable platform for your hands, that you might apply the entirety of your body weight and power to the point, allowing you to break through the otherwise difficult to break rings.
It is likely also for this reason that many rondel daggers you see have triangular blades, rather than flat ones.
While a flat blade may be able to fit between some of the less tightly fitted plates where a triangular blade will not, a triangular blade provides a great degree of rigidity, allowing more of the energy of a thrust to pass into the target, rather than into bending the blade.
Hopefully that answers your question. Cheers!

maybe it's bc capri is subtle but so much of the fic in the tag seems unwilling to engage with the manner in which Laurent is crucially intrinsically shaped by years of systematic isolation, grooming, and humiliation that was aimed at ruining his reputation and discrediting him personally and politically by framing him as a frigid, incestuous virgin/slut—sexualizing him incorrigibly in the eyes of all who knew him even those who may have been personally loyal to him. a lot of Laurent's issues and his personhood, down to his response to intimacy, comes from expecting continuously that every unguarded moment will be violently turned against him or revealed to someone without his consent. i want to see that in fic
