The yawn stretched Lena’s jaw to the point that she felt like a cat, baring her fangs. Naturally, it prompted a Kara Danvers Pout, which was utterly devastating. Kara looked at her over the top of her drink cup, straw still pursed in her delicate pink lips as she frowned slightly.
“How long have you been awake?”
“I had a half hour nap this morning,” Lena sighed.
She’d been in the office for three days, but she didn’t admit that.
“Leeeenaaaaaaa,” Kara said, drawing her name out into a gentle rebuke. “You promised me you’d stop doing that to yourself. I’m taking you home.”
Lena’s heart skipped and Kara abruptly jerked upright, briefly glancing at her. Lena hated when that happened, when her body betrayed her. Kara meant escort her home; Lena’s thoroughly tired mind had supplied another scenario, one where Kara carried her onto the bed, relieved her of her clothes and dove between her legs, but that was never going to happen. Lena let out a long sigh of resignation, trying to be satisfied with best-friendship.
She hoped Kara hadn’t suddenly developed telepathy.
If you took me home I’d never leave. I could make love to you for a hundred years.
Kara smiled back at Lena’s wistful look. “I mean it.”
“Okay. I can come back to it tomorrow. Besides, I’m too full of grease and cheese to stay awake. Should we…”
Lena never finished her sentence. There was a crackle in the air, a sudden wet smell of ozone, and the thunderous boom that made her ears ring.
Kara flashed in front of her at super-speed, yanking off her glasses and tossing them on the couch in a smooth motion.
Hovering in the middle of her office was some ramshackle contraption resembling a mechanical eye about the size of a basketball that scanned Kara with a faint purple energy ray.
“Kara Danvers. Supergirl. I am Zeglos, Regent of the Alotian Republic. I am calling to you from the home of my people, located in what is to you a subatomic realm we call Universe Q. We need your help, you are our only hope. The invaders are slaughtering us and razing our home. There is no time.”
Kara glanced back at Lena. “I’ll help if I can. Let me-“
“There is no time. You must come with me now.”
“Wait, hold on a second-“
The machine flashed, thrumming as it powered up, and blasted here with a wave of light that surrounded them both, and then in a crackling boom they both vanished, leaving behind the ozone smell and a faint impression of Kara’s boot heels in the carpet.
Lena stared into the empty space for a moment, then shot to her feet, snatching the phone off her desk, where it had lain ignored since Kara walked into the room.
She called Alex, shocked at the blubbering panic in her own voice. Within a few minutes, everyone was there, piling into the room. Lena warded them off from the spot where Kara had stood. Alex was cold and calm, her voice clinical, and she immediately began issuing orders. J’onn took Lena aside and gently asked her probing questions in the manner of an old detective, coaxing every meager detail of the event out of her.
Within half an hour, Brainy and Lena had set up all sorts of equipment around the room, scanning, hoping to find some energy signature or other clue that could enable them to bring Kara back from wherever she’d been taken.
It proved fruitless. They tried everything.
Minutes stretched into hours. Lena was exhausted, heavy with fatigue.
“Go home, get some sleep,” said Alex. “We can’t help her if we pass out on the floor.”
“I’ll sleep here.”
She did, throwing a thin blanket over herself on the couch. It was Alex, not Lena, who cleaned up the Big Belly Burger mess. Lena slept fitfully, showered in the en-suite attached to her office, and changed into an old hoodie that she kept there and wore when no one was looking.
It wasn’t hers. Threadbare, a maroon color faded to a soft red, the back still emblazoned with a cracked and fading Midvale Mathletes Club logo, it was Kara’s. Lena had snatched it from Kara’s sofa and put it on one night when she was feeling bold and then, as now, felt surrounded by it, the oversized garment swaddling her.
And it smelled like Kara, just enough. Kara had stared at her intently for a moment when she took it that night but said nothing, a wistful sad look on her face before the moment was broken by Wynn’s bad joke at the table. Wynn was gone now, but the hoodie remained, just as it had remained when they were fighting, when she thought she’d never see Kara again. She’d worn it then and cried herself to sleep in it.
Just like now.
A day became two. Then three. Five. Lena tried everything, pursued every theory. They called in every favor, human and alien. Brainy tried to send messages to the future. Nia dreamed fruitless dreams. Alex paced like a caged animal and Kelly kept the peace, keeping them all fed, making sure everyone slept, talking things out whenever tempers flared.
Nothing worked.
Lena even tried praying, something she hadn’t done since the last time she was in a small church in Ireland. It didn’t work this time, either.
Lena was seated next to Brainy on the couch, going over a design for a new device to try to follow what was by now a thoroughly cold trail. Alex stood at the balcony door, staring out into a slashing summer rain squall that buffeted the glass with distant thunder and gusts of wind.
The ozone smell tickled Lena’s nose and she looked up, just as Kara took a stumbling step out of nowhere, appearing in her office with an utterly bewildered look on her face.
“Kara?”
Alex snapped round, adding her voice to the chorus. “Kara?”
Kara stared at her sister, open-mouthed, tears welling in her eyes.
“Alex?” she said. “Alex, you’re alive? How is that possible?”
“Alive? Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Kara!” Lena cried, her voice ragged in her throat.
At the sound of her voice, Kara snapped around, eyes wide. Her knees buckled and she sagged, almost falling. She stumbled forward as Lena stood and they fell into each other, Lena hurling herself, reckless, into an embrace that revealed too much. She almost climbed Kara, all but throwing her legs around her as well as her arms as she buried her face in the Kryptonian’s neck.
“Oh God. Oh Rao. I thought you would all be gone. I begged them to let me leave but they wouldn’t let me go, I had to…”
“Kara?” Alex asked, cautiously. “Why would we be gone?”
Kara barely seemed to hear her as she gently twined her fingers in Lena’s hair and wrapped her powerful arm around Lena’s waist, encircling and shielding her.
“How long has it been?”
“About a week,” Lena choked out. “I was so scared.”
“A week?” Kara blurted. “It’s only been a week here?”
Alex put a reassuring hand on Kara’s back, standing next to them. “Yeah, you were taken on Tuesday, kiddo. It’s Wednesday, the 17th.”
Kara stared past Lena, resting her chin on the shorter woman’s head, and began to sob with relief.
“Kara?” said Alex.
“Time dilation,” said Brainy.
“They told me time would pass slower up here but I didn’t believe them. I’ve been gone for… for…”
“It’s okay, Kara,” Lena whispered. “You’re okay, you’re back.”
“Eighty seven years, four months, and eighteen days,” Kara sobbed. “It’s been so long, I thought you were all dead.”
Alex stiffened. “Kara. Oh my God.”
Kara buried her face in Lena’s hair and breathed her in, shuddering. “I’d given up. All that kept me going was hoping I could see you again. This is a gift. A gift. I love you all so much.”
Kara still held her, rocking slightly, her big shoulders shaking with powerful sobs.
“Kara,” Lena whispered. “Kara, it’s okay.”
“I love you,” Kara blurted. “I love you. It’s okay if you don’t love me back, I just need to tell you, I have to tell you. All I could think about down there is how stupid I was and how stupid I’ve been and how none of the reasons I never told you made any sense,” she sucked in a breath as if she’d briefly forgotten how, “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
There could be no mistaking her intent. She seethed with it, it radiated from her very bones. Lena hugged her hard, crushing her with all her might as if to crawl inside her.
“God, Kara, I’ve dreamed of hearing you say that. I love you too. Let’s… mmmph!”
Kara was kissing her. Lena’s brain briefly froze, then she realized the full magnitude of what was happening. Kara was kissing her. Kara was kissing her. Then Lena was kissing her back. There was so much in it, need and lust and adoration and an unbelievable desperation, but above all love. Lena felt her heart open as if hadn’t in a long time, like a flower unfolding to receive the nurturing warmth of morning sun.
“I’ve been waiting for this for so long,” Kara whispered when they finally broke and Lena again could breathe.
“Let me take you home,” said Lena.

Kara follows through on her promise to ask Lena out once they were back from Ireland. Of course, she has to wait until Lena recovers after a very long rest. Plot things happen too. EXCERPT:
Lena wakes to the smell of something burning.
At first, she labels it a dream, one of many she’s had from the past day of her mostly sleeping. Her time in Ireland had exhausted her far more than she realized as her eyes open to a new day, the morning light flushing away the night.
But then her rational brain kicks in, and she jolts upright. She’s alone, Kara’s side of the bed empty, and all the blankets tucked around herself. She untangles herself and stumbles out of the bedroom and into the main loft area.
Kara stands in front of the stove, her hands on her hips, while smoke rises from a pan. No fire just a black pan.
“Kara?” Lena rubs her eyes blearily. Okay, so not a crisis. Good. That’s good. She steps into the kitchen and sees a tea pot, freshly brewed, and the coffee machine plugging away for coffee.
“Oh!” Kara turns. “Lena! Sorry to wake you. I — uh, was trying to make breakfast.” She smiles sheepishly. “Apparently using heat vision to speed up pancakes doesn’t work.”
Lena blinks. “Heat vision.” She’s not awake enough to parse that sentence.
Kara looks embarrassed now. “I mean, the pan was taking forever to warm up!”
To troubleshoot, Lena needs caffeine pronto.  She opens a cabinet and pulls down one of her favorites of Kara’s mugs — the one with a rocketship from some old science fiction comic. She pours the tea and sniffs it.
Ah. Black tea with a hint of bergamont. Earl Grey. Excellent. After one cup, she pours another, and her brain slowly becomes more cognizant. Glancing over the stove again, she realizes what’s wrong. “Burner isn’t on, my love.”
She takes another sip and blushes when she realizes what pet name she'd used unconsciously.
Well that’s…
Whatever. She’s going to just own it. Her feelings for Kara should be obvious by now, and if it’s not, they’ll talk about it soon enough. Once Lena has her caffeine and washes up for the day.
“Oh, right. Uh. Well, that’s just embarrassing.” Kara sighs heavily, which sends a spike of ice over the pan. “Whoops.” She flicks off a piece of ice and it skitters across the stovetop to land on the floor.
Lena can’t help it. She bursts into laughter. Kara smiles and starts to laugh with her. Lena leans her head against Kara’s shoulder. “You loveable dork,” she whispers. She lifts her head and kisses Kara on the cheek. “Let me get ready, and I’ll help you, okay? Then we can discuss our plans for today.”
Kara licks her lips, her eyes more focused on Lena’s lips or chest. Lena’s not entirely sure, but it does warm her to see. “Uh, sure. Yeah. We can do that. I do have to go back to the office, um, to finish that article on Ireland. Did you know you slept a whole day? But you look so much better — not that you don’t look amazing all the time!” The pink blush returns to Lena’s delight and amusement. “And yes, definitely get ready. I’ll try cleaning this mess—”
Lena gently runs her thumb over Kara’s bottom lip, which freezes the super and ceases her rambling. Despite her skin’s invulnerability, Kara’s lips still feel soft to Lena’s touch.

It's Not Okay
Summary: Being bullied at school is never fun - especially when parents try to blow it off as crushes.
Pairings: Mama!Kara Danvers x Daughter!Reader, Mommy!Lena Luthor x Daughter!Reader, Kara Danvers x Lena Luthor (unmarried partners), Auntie!Uncle!Superfriends x Child!Reader
Genre: Fluff, Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: nightmares, name-calling (ugly), broken glasses. nothing too serious for you all :)
A/N: I've been feeling a bit little today but I haven't actually dropped, so I kind of fell into a younger mindset for the reader. To the anon that requested a storyline similar to a teenager reader, I can write that one too if you'd like? Just wasn't feeling it today, sorry :)

*how i imagine their clothing at the end, but you can imagine anything you'd like*
*not my gif*
Many people at school thought you were weird. The fact that you wore these ‘dorky’ glasses and ‘stupid’ clothes was slowly eating away at you. Nobody knew your moms were Supergirl and Lena Luthor, two of the biggest names in pop culture - Lena had kept her publicity quiet whilst Kara hadn’t revealed her identity to the world.
You spotted Kara as you walked out of school, another horrid day of year two eating away at your young and boisterous personality.
“Hi Mama!” You yelled excitedly, running up to her and tackling her in a hug.
“Hello, my darling inah (daughter).” She kissed your forehead before buckling you into your seat, making your jaw drop as a gasp came out.
“Mommy!”
“Hiya, sweetheart.” Lena grinned from the front passenger seat, making goofy faces at you in her mirror as she touched up her mascara.
“Are you ready to go home, baby?” Kara asked after buckling herself into her seatbelt.
“Mhms! Is cousie Esme at home?” You replied.
“She sure is!”
“And Auntie Alex? Auntie Kelly?!”
“Yep and yep!” Lena answered this time, the two of them surprised at your excitement.
“How was your day at school, honey?”
“It was so fun, Mommy! We had somebody come today and I got to pet a lizard! He had a blue tongue too!” You giggled at the memory, looking out of the window.
“That sounds amazing, Y/N/N.” Lena smiled warmly at you, tickling your leg.
As you all made your way back to Lena’s penthouse loft, you immediately ran up the stairs. You threw your bag down, not caring about the stuff inside, and went back downstairs to see everybody.
You tackled Alex and Kelly in a hug, the two of them almost losing the air in their lungs whilst Esme quickly copied Kara so you wouldn’t hurt her. “Hey, little cousie.”
“Hi hi!” You grinned, seeing an assortment of crayons on the table in front of you. “Can I draw you something?” You whispered in Esme’s ear, to which she nodded.
You immediately sat down and began to draw your masterpiece, making sure the sun was in the top corner and the sky was blue. Everybody was on the page in their correct spots, your Mommy and Mama holding either of your hands whilst everybody else stood beside them.
“Y/N, dinner is ready!” Kara called out to you from the kitchen, your head popping up to see everybody making their way over.
You scrambled to get onto your chair at the table, waiting patiently for everyone to sit before you pulled out your drawing. “Look! Do you all like it?”
Gasps and applause came from them all, with the drawing being passed around as dinner was served. You giggled at Kara’s heat vision on the chicken, wanting to use yours but you weren’t quite in control yet.
When Kara got the drawing, she smiled at herself in her Supergirl outfit before putting it on the fridge along with some of your other creations. You enjoyed the dinner consisting of the carbonara pasta for you, whilst others ate from the other dishes on the table until Alex decided on watching a movie.
You snuggled up between Kara and Lena, to which Nia guided a blanket on top of your trio which made you beam at her. “Thanks, Auntie Nia!”
“You’re very welcome, Y/N/N.” She beamed back, kissing your forehead gently before she cuddled up to Brainy.
As the movie played on, you grew bored as you didn’t understand some of the older references, so you decided to draw again. As your mind wandered to what school would be like tomorrow, your drawing began to reflect that. The crayons you used were usually bright, but now they were full of shadows and darkness.
Eventually you grew tired and climbed back up to Lena, having no space to sit between Kara and the noirette, which left you with your toes hiding underneath Nia’s blanket. As you fell asleep, her mind fell into your dream and she watched the bullies teasing you for your glasses and clothes.
When she woke up, however, she didn’t want to disturb Kara and Lena’s special time together, so she kept it to herself and gently manipulated your dream into something more fun and exciting.
———————————————————————
Kara was not expecting a call from your school as she sat in Lena’s office on her lunch break. She looked up at Lena and the two made their way to your school, seeing you sniffling and shaking in your seat.
“Honey baby, what happened?” Kara knelt in front of you, gently wiping away your tears.
You shook your head and your tears poured, making Kara very distressed as she picked you up easily, bouncing you and herself instead of flying like she used to when you were little. She turned to Lena, who had spoken with the receptionist, and gently put you back down in your chair.
“Y/N/N, lovey, we will be right back, okay?” She kissed your forehead, noticing your glasses were crooked before righting them.
She stepped into the principal’s office with Lena, her in a blue argyle style whilst Lena was in her dark maroon suit. They sat down in a set of chairs next to what they could only assume was the other child’s mother and father, the plaque at the end of the desk reading Principal Johnson.
“What happened?” Lena asked, a tinge of annoyance in her tone.
“Ms Luthor, Ms Danvers, this is Mr and Mrs. Kepler. There’s no easy way to say this, but… Y/N hit their son Will and broke his nose.” Mr. Johnson sighed.
Kara’s eyes widened behind her glasses. “What?!”
Lena’s hand fell onto Kara’s in assurance. “Can someone tell us what happened? Possibly what caused the fight?”
“Unfortunately, the teacher on duty wasn’t watching over their spout and only saw the end result.” He shrugged.
Lena immediately stood and opened the door, picking you up from your chair and bringing you inside. You’d never been inside this room before, this was the principal’s office. This was where the bad kids were sent - you weren’t a bad kid, were you?
“Y/N, honey, can you tell us what happened? The silly teacher wasn’t watching and Mama and I want to know.” Lena asked you gently, noticing how the unfamiliar surroundings and new people were scaring you.
“W-Well, I was playing in the sand pit a-and Will came to play. I di-didn’t want to play with him so I said no.”
You looked over at the scowling parents before Kara adjusted her seat so you didn’t see them, only your Mama and Mommy. “Keep going, darling. Take your time.” She cooed, brushing some tear-soaked hairs out of your face.
“N-n he didn’t like that. Mama, he took my glasses!” You took them off and showed her them -  the middle part that rested on your nose was broken.
“Did he break your glasses, honey?” She asked carefully.
“Mhm! He stomped on them.” You sniffled. “I like my glasses. B-But he says he doesn’t like them, ever. And he doesn’t like my clothes either. He says I look ugly in them.”
You watched your Mama and Mommy’s faces fall with sadness, worry building in yours. “No! Didn’t mean to make you sad!”
“Honey, did you punch Will because he called you ugly and broke your glasses?” Kara asked, not even listening to your heartbeat.
You shook your head frantically. “No, Mama! I just pushed him out of the sand pit! He tripped on the side and fell on his face, promise!”
She nodded, carefully taking you into her arms before she readjusted her seat and looked at the other parents who held Will. “Well then I think this whole situation has been sorted. Just a simple misunderstanding.” Mr. Johnson smiled sheepishly.
“I don’t think so.” Lena stood, folding her arms.
You knew this wasn’t soft Mommy - this was Mommy the Boss, and Kara took you outside of the room.
“Will has been bullying Y/N for her glasses and her clothes. He needs to learn that bullying isn’t okay.” Lena stated.
“He’s in year two, Ms. Luthor. It’s nothing more than teasing - he might even like Y/N.” Mr. Kepler replied.
“I expect my child’s glasses to be paid for, Mr. Kepler. And summing up this bullying to something so weird as Will fancying her is wrong. It shouldn’t be okay for this to happen. If this continues, Mr. Johnson, I will pull Y/N out of this school.”
With that, Lena closed the principal’s door behind her, seeing you and Kara in the reception. She immediately smiled at you and hugged you when you made some grabby hands, your head burying into her neck.
“Mommy, can we go flying later?” You asked softly.
“Of course we can, baby. Let’s go home first so we can get our special clothes on.” She answered, which was your code word for the super suits.
You were quiet on the walk to the car, which surprised the two women before they realised you were asleep. “Maybe we can go flying tomorrow.” Kara teased, gently kissing your forehead as she buckled you into your car seat.
You opened your eyes to see everybody waiting for you at home, including Uncle Mon-El and Auntie Imra with Uncle Winn. You ran up to Imra who easily lifted and hugged you, giving you sporadic kisses on your face.
“How about we go and have some fun inside? Maybe we can test out your flying!” She giggled with you.
Whilst everyone else went inside, Nia stopped Kara and Lena. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about the bullying.”
They looked at each other before turning to her. “I dreamt about it last night when she was touching me. It was actually terrifying to watch her little mind dream that, let alone comprehend it. I know I’m not a mom, but I wouldn’t make her go back yet.”
“Can you show us the dream?” Kara pleaded, to which Nia took their hands and showed them.
It brought them to tears instantly.
“Oh, baby…” Lena whimpered, running inside to find you in your room.
“Mommy? Mama? What happened?” You asked quietly, watching them kneel in front of you before sweeping you off your feet into their arms.
“We are so sorry we didn’t see this earlier, inah.” Kara cooed, holding you tight but not too tight.
You felt those big emotions surface before tears began to run down your face, squirming further into Kara’s hold whilst Lena hugged your other side. “W-Want ev’ybody.” You muffled against Kara’s shirt.
“Yeah? Everybody?” She asked, to which you nodded.
“Hope?” Lena looked up at the ceiling.
“The members downstairs have been notified of Y/N’s request.” The AI replied.
Soon enough, they all piled in and looked down at your crying form. Nia was the first to start the group hug, with everyone piling on until you felt truly loved.
As they pulled apart, they all gave you an individual hug and some even said some encouraging words. But at the end of it, you turned to your Mama and Mommy and tackled them in a hug, making giggles spread through the room whilst you held them tightly.
“My Mamas.”

Do you think that it was a missed opportunity to explore Kara’s intelligence? Because I’d assume that because of her kryptonian knowledge of advanced science that she could successfully cure most diseases and cancers (ex of how Krypton engineered babies to meet certain vocations and be genetically superior) and that she would never actually solve those problems because interfering with the human advancements in health, mathematics, science, tech, etc. could have very serious consequences in other ways.
So to not explore her guilt over choosing to not save millions of lives through her intelligence and how she balances that out in her heart by saving and inspiring as many as she can as supergirl seems kind of crazy to me. Even if just for one episode!
I’m rewatching and have thoughts 😂
"Do you think that it was a missed opportunity to explore Kara’s intelligence?"
Yes.
Simple as that. 😂
Nah but real talk, they obviously needed to have a role for the whole dorky-sidekick-with-a-crush trope Winn, so they needed him to be the brains to Kara's brawn, but to do so they clearly felt they had to diminish Kara's intelligence (🙄), otherwise this man had no purpose (typical, especially for this show). But then he left anyway. So, ultimately, a total waste on all fronts.
I'm sure some would say by that standard/rule "Then what would Lena's role have been?" sarcastically as if Lena and Winn are interchangeable but if you can't see that Lena elevated the show by creating the subversion of the Super/Luthor trope, and that if Kara had been a genius, she wouldn't have had to been reduced for Lena to exist, because Lena never needed someone else diminished in order to shine. She and Kara could have been true equals in terms of their intellect and them working together once they got past the secret reveal... something that would have been even more fulfilling, especially in all those canon moments on the show when Kara was hurt or incapacitated and Lena was the only person on the planet who could save her (Winn certainly offered nothing in that regard or those moments)... so...
ETA: Yes I meant to add that I also think they heavily neglected a lot of elements that would’ve been fantastic to explore when it comes to Kara’s trauma, possible guilt over what you mentioned, and so. much. more.

i think mutual pining, oblivious supercorp is my favourite supercorp.
kara, whos in love with lena, but she doesnt want to take a step too far and risk the possibilities of ruining their friendship. cause as far as she knows, lena is happy how they are and the possible negative outcomes of lena rejecting her, of breaking her trust by lying about how she felt the entire time is enough to just love her from a distance. she doesnt notice how lena stares at how and how lena gets nervous around her, because she’s too focused on squashing her feelings for lena into oblivion.
lena, who just pines and pines after kara, unable to truly believe that kara could ever love her back. she’s never had friends that havent used her(andrea) or that havent had others in their life that are more important to them(sam&ruby). she’s never had a friend who will fly across the city just to bring her tylenol when she has a headache, or that will come to her apartment at 12am because thats when she gets home and she cant fall asleep for another hour. so she just believes that kara loves her in the most platonic way possible, and avoids any idea for otherwise.

The world was moving a little slowly. That is, every time Lena moved her head, it took a few moments for the world to catch up with her, reality lazily seeping back to its correct position. Worse, every time she turned her neck, she could hear something in there slipping against something else, like two pencil erasers rubbing together.
This indicated that Lena was very drunk, and her reaction was to have another drink. She waved to the bartender, who caught her eye with a stern shake of her head.
She’d ditched Kara, Alex and the others earlier that night. She was tired of friends. Found family was exhausting. She just wanted to drink and wallow in her own misery, free to get so drunk that she’d have to hold onto the world without falling off, without the nerve-fraying risk of blurting out something big to the wrong person, like Kara. Especially Kara.
Because she had a stupid straight girl crush on Kara. Lena was such a stereotype.
“Gimme another shot of whiskey,” Lena demanded.
“No, lady. You’re cut off. The only thing I’m getting you is a cab ride home.”
“Eh, shcrew you and shcrew your cab,” Lena slurred. “I’d rather walk.”
Before he could protest, Lena slipped off her stool, somehow managing to not faceplant on the floor in the process, and started wobbling towards the exit. She was very drunk, she realized. The tilting gave it away, and the way everything was sort of funny, especially the patrons staring at her in mild alarm.
In her inebriation, it took her a moment to realize that the bar had fallen silent, except for the faint music from the overhead speakers. The only other sound, besides Lena’s ragged breath, was the thump of boot heels on the floor.
Lena, who had been staring at the floor to better avoid it, looked up.
“Supergirl?” said Lena.
Supergirl said nothing. Instead, with a weary, sad look in her eyes, gathered Lena up in her arms, scooping her right off her feet. Before Lena knew it, she was outside on a crisp November night.
“Hush now,” a familiar voice said. “Close your eyes. I’m taking you somewhere safe.”
Lena did as she was told, but said, “did Kara send you?”
The wall of muscle that held her tensed, and Supergirl swallowed. “Yes, she did. She’s very worried about you and was concerned that you skipped the girl’s night, so she asked me to keep an eye out for you while I was on patrol.”
“She’s so sweet,” Lena whimpered, and it turned into a sob.
“Miss Luthor?”
“Why do all the good ones have to be straight, huh?”
“Miss Luthor, I-“
“She’s so perfect. She’s an angel. She’s always there for me and she takes good care of me and she always makes sure I eat and stuff,” Lena sniffed, “and she’s so pretty. How can someone be that pretty?”
Supergirl tensed again. “Hush, now. It’s okay. I’m taking you somewhere safe.”
“I just wish I could tell her how I feel,” said Lena. “I know she wouldn’t like me back, but it just hurts so much to keep it in.”
“Then why don’t you tell her?”
“I don’t want to lose her,” said Lena. “I’d rather have her in my life and nurse my stupid crush than lose her altogether.”
“We’re here,” said Supergirl. “I’m going to put you in the bed, okay?”
“Okay,” Lena said, yawning. “I’m tired.”
“I know,” said Supergirl. “Here. Let me help you a little.”
With the hero’s help, Lena shrugged out of her jacket and kicked off her boots. She started to undo her blouse, but a firm hand stopped her, instead shoving a t-shirt and a pair of lounge pants into her hands.
In a confused blurr, Lena changed. Supergirl returned, pulling the blankets back and gently guiding Lena into the bed, every touch tender and soft, until Lena lay comfortably on her side with her head nicely propped on the pillows and a glass of water by her bedside.
Supergirl reached over and clicked off the light.
“Sleep, Lena. I’ll watch over you. I’ll always protect you.”
“Okay,” Lena murmured. “You won’t tell, will you?”
“No. It’s not my secret to share.”
“Good. I love her so much. I think I’ve been in love with her since the first time I saw her.”
Lena tensed as Supergirl’s breath caught. Lena could swear she was wiping at her eyes, even though her vision was blurred by booze and tears and the room was dark.
“You never know,” said Supergirl. “She might feel the same way. You’re pretty special.”
“Nah, she’s straight as an arrow,” Lena slurred out.
“Maybe she thinks the same thing about you.”
Lena laughed. “Me? Ha! That’s hilarious. Goodnight, Supergirl. Try not to fly too hard.”
Giggling at her own cleverness, Lena felt her eyes closed as she drifted to sleep…
…only to slam awake again with a lancing pain through her skull. The world was too bright, and it was too early, no matter what time it actually was. Lena slowly sat up, feeling every movement in her brain, and looked around.
It shouldn’t have been so bright in here, if for no other reason than Lena had blackout curtains. Very expensive ones, too. Except they weren’t there.
Because this wasn’t her apartment, or her bed. This was Kara’s place. How… had Supergirl brought her here? Why?
“Kara?” Lena said, meekly, as she ducked out into the loft.
She was stunned to see Supergirl sitting at Kara’s kitchen table, and further shocked to see Supergirl in civilian clothes. A pair of pajamas, as a matter of fact. Her golden curls spilled down over her broad back, and Lena’s eyes naturally followed the cascade down to the shapely form of Supergirl’s waist, then back up to her broad shoulders.
Supergirl, Lena realize, was wearing Kara’s pajamas. Pajamas that Lena had given her, powder blue flannel with little Chinese takeout boxes printed on them.
Supergirl stood up and turned around, and Lena twitched? Startled. As soon as she saw the glasses she realized that she’d mistaken Kara for Supergirl from behind.
They were both blondes, had similar builds, and they both…
I’ll always protect you.
Kara stopped in front of her without a word, expression both anxious and eager, as Kara fidgeted with her fingers, waiting.
Lena’s hands shook as they rose from her sides, and the hangover had nothing to do with it. Very gently, she grasped the frames of Kara’s glasses and slid them free, and stared into her eyes.
Kara took a single step forward, into Lena’s space- it was not an intrusion but am invitation.
“You should tell her how you feel,” she whispered. “She might feel the same way.”
“Oh God,” Lena whispered. “This is so embarrassing, I’m so sorry Kara, I should go, I’m so…”
Kara leaned in, lightly resting her palms on Lena’s hips, steadying her rather than trapping her. Lena continued to sputter until she felt the tilt of Kara’s head and the soft pressure of her nose and then the brush of soft lips on hers.
Lena had first kisses aplenty; she was no blushing ingenue. She’d long decided that the whole romantic notion of the first kiss was childish and silly, and there was nothing magical about it at all. Then Kara was kissing her, and all of it turned out to be exactly right. Kara kissed her so deeply, so perfectly, that she deduced that none of those other ones counted and this was her real first kiss. Or perhaps her last first kiss.
It was over too fast, leaving her lips tingling with desire and her breath short, her heart hammering in her chest.
“Is this okay?” Kara murmured, pulling back just enough to separate their lips.
“Uh huh. We better try it a few more times to see if I like it.”

Too Pretty for a Hookup
Kara clicked on the accept button on the screen and immediately cringed. Gasping as she saw the evidence of the decision she'd been hesitating to make for the past 3 hours.
A one night stand.
On an app called Triple L - which Kara realized after much much thought that it stood for Ladies Loving Ladies. It was an app that Alex had installed for her out of the obligation of getting Kara to hook up with someone to break the dry spell she had been on.
‘Kara, it's not a big deal. You hook up for one night, have a great time, and then you never see them ever again. You need this.’
Unfortunately, her sister was right. As much as Kara hated to admit it and would probably never will. She had been on edge lately. Jittery and easily irritable. She tried everything. From meditation to stress relieving herbal teas to soft music playing in the background. But it was as though her body was always frustrated.
Sexually frustrated.
Which brings her to this moment. She had clicked yes to a brunette one night stand she matched with that she was already regretting. The act of tapping on the screen to accept took at least 3 or 4 hours of pacing and huffing and sighing and eyeing the cursed device. But eventually, she willed the tip of her finger to lightly touch the glass screen.
And now here she was. Regretting it. Que another 3 hours of pacing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kara sat at the bar twirling her straw in what was some type of cherry cocktail with lots of that vodka stuff that didn't affect her. She wasn't sure what was in her cocktail or why she even ordered it. But something about the cliché of drowning your nervousness in a drink seemed somewhat comforting. She had seen it in movies and TV shows and found it to be an interesting behavior at first. Drinking something that can alter your brain to make you do stupid things because you were scared of doing stupid things to begin with.
She could never fully understand humans.
But she didn't argue that the color of her drink sure managed to take her mind off of her night. It was a peculiar kind of red. Not crimson red but not pink either. It was more of a...
“Ms. Danvers?”
“Yes, that's...”
Kara turned towards the voice and almost gasped. A beautiful brunette with striking green eyes stood before her who can only be described as a victim for having a profile picture that did absolute no justice to the real thing.
Kara's eyes followed the ruby diamond hanging around a chiseled neck and dropping just shy of a peeking cleavage. The woman wore tight black pair of jeans with a sleeveless white blouse held around her neck and dipping low enough for Kara to notice the black bra underneath.
Kara's eyes shot up before she lingered longer than what was appropriate, going up to meet green ones that effortlessly stole her breath away. They were forest green, but shone bright whenever the light shone at them. Kara's mouth opened and closed, trying to grasp onto the words she was about to speak, but her mind suffered a short circuit that enjoyed it far too much.
“Ms. Danvers, are you alright?”
Kara suddenly shut her gaped mouth and shook her head defiantly. “Nope. This isn't happening.” she pressed her lips tightly in frustration.
Just my luck! Just my darn annoying luck!
“I beg your Pardon?” the woman raised a perfectly styled eyebrow and Kara had to drag her eyes away from it.
She shook her head more as she shrugged in defiance, “You're way too pretty for me to just hook up with you for one night and not immediately fall in love you.” she blurted out in one go, sighing at her unavoidable dire luck.
“So no. We are not doing this. I'm sorry I dragged you all the way here but this one night stand is not happening. Sorry.” she took a big gulp of whatever the name of her drink was and suddenly noticed a hint of pomegranate in its taste. “Way way too pretty, ” she mumbled to herself, “She expects me to just hook up with her. How do you just hook up with someone that pretty?!”
As much as her mind knew she should probably stop talking and practically begged her to, Kara's mouth just kept going. She turned back to the woman, eyebrows furrowed in frustration, “I mean honestly, you should come with a warning label or something. In your profile picture you were wearing sunglasses. And seriously that shouldn't be allowed. Especially with you having eyes as pretty as those.” she blatantly gestured to the woman's eyes, giving her a ‘duh’ expression.
She rolled her eyes before huffing out, “You shouldn't deceive people like that.” she muttered resentfully, “It's not very nice. You know you could seriously give someone a heart attack with eyes like that.” she turned away. Back to her now empty drink. She played with the thin red straw before sighing loudly, realizing she's not being very fair to someone who had driven all the way here for nothing.
“Anyway. I'm sorry again. I could pay for your cab if you want. Or maybe even drive you home. Actually no I flew here,” Kara's eyes bulged open, “O-onn a bus.”
Nice save.
“I can call you an Uber?” she offered, “I have five other options if those wouldn't work for you. You're a obviously too pretty to take the bus or the subway.” she suddenly gasped, “Not that people who ride the bus or subway aren't pretty! Oh no! I've met loads of pretty people on the bus!” she exclaimed defensively, trying to make sure this stranger believed her when she claimed she didn't find people on buses and subways ugly.
“This one time I met a woman on the subway who was soooo pretty that I missed my stop.”
She nodded, lips pressing in a thin line showing just how serious she was. Her serious expression lasted less than a second before she realized what she had said.
“Not... Not that I was staring at her stalkerishly! No I was very... Well I was very... I just didn't notice my stop because her eyes were distracting.”
She double backed again, “Nothing like your eyes though. Yours are like... Whew!” she chuckled nervously, “If I had to rank them on a scale of one,” she hovered her palm facedown a little below where she sat on the stool, gesturing to where the scale started, “to ten,” she reached up to show where the ten would be, “then your eyes would be...” she panicked when she realized she couldn't go any higher than where her hand was at the ten. She tried stretching her arm but there was only so little solid bones can stretch.
So she did what any sane person would do.
“Hold on.” she muttered as she shifted on the chair until she stood on her knees over the stool. When she reached the highest she could, she frowned, finding it not enough. Her eyes were at least a 100 on the scale. And where her hand reached now was more like a fifty.
On a scale of one to ten that is.
So, once again. She did what any sane person would do.
She stood fully on her stool, wobbling just a bit before balancing herself and reaching the highest she could.
“Your eyes would be here!"
Said eyes had widened immensely at Kara's elaborate display of passion towards demonstrating her ‘one to ten scale’ and where the woman's green eyes ranked.
The shocked woman finally shook herself from her stupor, “Why don't we get you down from there? I'd hate to see anything happen to you because of my eyes.” she braced her arms around Kara's form, prepared to catch the blonde if she so happened to stumble down.
Kara chuckled as she effortlessly flung herself back on the chair sitting down easily, hearing the woman's heart react suddenly in fear at how fast it all happened. “Well, I don't think I would mind going that way.”
The woman, Lena, took a second to gather herself before speaking, “I would. People would start blaming me for taking away your charming personality from this cruel world. I'd rather not have to defend myself.”
Kara had to admit she was somewhat surprised by the banter, not expecting the beautiful brunette to stick around after admitting she had no intention of sleeping with her.
“You seem like you can hold your own.” she replied confidently.
Lena took a step closer, her thigh brushing softly against Kara's knee. Her smile was devious as she spoke, “Well, you wouldn't know now would you, since I'm - How did you phrase it again? - too pretty to hook up with?”
Kara couldn't for the life of her believe her ears. She was flirting! This beautiful woman who Kara had made a complete fool of herself in front of and not to mention rejected was actually flirting with her.
“I'm not wrong. You are too pretty for a hook up. You should be wined and dined and taken on all sorts of cliché dates.” Kara mentioned as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Once again, Lena seemed taken back and had to spend a second staring at Kara before composing herself and speaking once more, “Well, I can't say I've ever been wined and dined and taken on cliché dates before. But a woman's bound to start somewhere, right?” she smiled softly, her eyes sparkling with hope. “Can I buy you a drink?” She asked suddenly.
Kara stared her with a flustered smile, her hand going to fix her glasses, “Umm yeah. Sure I'd... I'd like that. But...” she cringed, not wanting to ask her question but wanting so much to ask her question.
“What?” Lena asked with a worried smile on her lips.
“Well, it's just that I was supposed to hookup with you but then I canceled last minute. And anyone else would be at least frustrated that they came all the way out here for nothing. I'm just wondering...”
Lena leaned closer, thigh now pressing on Kara's knee, “Who said I came all the way here for nothing?” she whispered sultry.
Oh, wow. That voice can probably take away a person's will.
“Umm I...”
Lena took a step back, and Kara almost had to stop herself from reaching out and pulling her back. The confident woman suddenly seemed nervous, clasping her hands together and pressing on her knuckles.
“I've been on many of these one night stands with all sorts of different people.” she finally said before pausing as though not sure whether she should say her next words. “None of them have ever called me pretty. Hot, sexy, yes. Never pretty.” she let out a bitter laugh, “And you managed to make me smile on a day I was frustrated enough to set up a one night stand with a complete stranger just to take out my frustration somehow. So, if you're willing,” she looked down at her clasped hands nervously, “I would you like to take you out. On a proper date.”
Kara froze at her words, eyes widening at the request.
Lena seemed to have misunderstood her shock for rejection, “Of course, you don't ha...”
“Yes!” Kara finally managed to blurt out.
Lena looked at her skeptically, “Are you sure...?”
“Am I sure if I wanna go out on an actual real date with the prettiest woman here? Mhmm. Yup. Definitely sure. Positive. Absolutely a hundred percent on board.” Kara's head kept nodding eagerly, the back of her neck straining with so much force put into her nods.
Lena smiled, amused at Kara's passionate response, “Well, alright then. Shall we? I know a nice restaurant not far from here.”
Kara flew off her stool, placing a few bucks on the counter for her drink and turned with a wide blinding smile.
“Lead the way.”
I just can't get over the fact that Lena thinks she's the cool aunt. She's clearly the second-mom aunt, the first person Ruby goes to when she has a fight with her mom, because Lena is a great listener, and waits until Ruby asks for advice before she offers her two cents. Cuz sometimes... a kid just needs to vent.
And Lena tells it straight. When Ruby is in the wrong, she believes it coming from Lena... and Lena will also tell her when she's in the right, because Lena knows better than anyone that parents are not always good, and they are not always right. Or sometimes they're both right, or both wrong, but either way, Ruby trusts Lena to be objective and fair, and never ever derisive or cruel.
To Lena: where are u??
To Lena: Answer my calls
To Lena: Pls?
Kara rounds the corner of her hallway, keys bitten, dangling from her lips, as she types with both hands. Her 67th text message of the day to an MIA Lena Luthor sent. She fails to notice the creature lurking around the front of her door; dark fur shining under the cheap LED lights of Kara’s corridor.
She’s still deeply absorbed in her phone with worry, in the middle of jamming her keys in with one hand, when something furry brushes against her legs and Kara yelps.
She pulls the knob clean out of the wood in shock, her phone dropping to the floor loudly, the cat doing a duet with her with a startled yowl of her own.
Heart hammering and adrenaline racing, Kara looks down and sees the cat for the first time.
“Oh! Oh!” she gasps, “I didn’t see you there, buddy. I’m sorry for startling you!! I didn’t mean it.”
The door knob clatters loudly to the ground as it falls out of her grasp. And Kara sheepishly feels guilty for the hole in her door. But the cat meows loudly, catching her attention, as if in response to her apology.
She crouches down low, and reaches out a hand to touch the furball. She snaps a quick pic, sends it to Lena and pockets her phone.
To Lena: KITTY!!
“Oh, oh come here,” she coos, “where’s your collar? How’d you get here huh?”
The cat reminds her of Streaky. The first stray who ever took to her kindly. Although upon closer inspection, Kara realizes this one has striking emeralds for eyes, Streaky’s eyes were a more softer blue.
The cat surprisingly seems friendly, immediately leaning into Kara’s touch. Nosing at the inside of Kara’s wrist and it’s such a familiar gesture but she can’t seem to remember why.
And...oh, a small rumbling echoes through Kara’s palm!
Oh, they’re purring!
Kara doesn’t know how long she stays there crouched low exactly, but eventually, she stands up, takes her hand away, and picks up the damaged doorknob.
“Well, time for you to go home now, buddy,” she tells them, giving their head one last pat before dusting off her hands on her jacket.
“Go on, shooo. Shoo. Go home. I’m sure your human is looking for you.”
But the cat remains unmoving. It looks like they’ve decided to sit firmly in front of Kara’s doorstep, casually licking a paw, as if waiting for Kara to open her door.
“Are you actually waiting for me to open my door?” Kara makes a mental note to thank Rao that none of her neighbors can see her trying to hold a proper conversation with a cat.
“Look, kitty,” she says firmly, “I’m not your human.”
The cat just blinks owlishly at her. Eyes too green, too intelligent and-
Kara makes up her mind.
She turns her face skywards, takes a deep breath (This will probably backfire, she already knows. But she's always had a soft spot for strays.) and then she pushes her door wide open.
The cat races inside, cutting through Kara’s legs and almost tripping her.
“Well, somebody’s excited,” Kara mutters under her breath, she watches the cat head for her living room couch; watches as they pause all of a sudden, changes course and jumps onto Kara’s coffee table instead.
Where the cat then proceeds to knock down everything in close vicinity, even the picture frame of her and Lena together.
“Hey! No! Bad kitty-”
But the cat is already hopping down from her pedestal, landing on the frame directly.
And then things get weird.
The cat proceeds to stomp all over it, meows loud, like really loud; insanely loud for a cat their size.
Her paw seems to be almost pointing? At the other person in the frame.
“I-” Kara seems taken aback by the bizarre behavior, sure she knows cats are vastly different from dogs, but this…
This is just weird.
The cat’s meowing only seems to get louder.
How you land yourselves in these situations, Kara. I really just don’t know, at this point. She can almost hear Alex say.
“What are you- Are you- are you pointing? That’s- That’s Lena, yeah. That’s my best friend.”
At that, the cat seems to vibrate. They start clawing at Kara’s pant leg, meowing and meowing and meowing—
And then it hits her.
"-but it turns out that she’s a witch. And apparently, so am I."
The green, green eyes.
A pink nose nuzzling against her wrist.
“Lena?”
******
“Oh, Rao! Lena you’re a cat! What happened?! Oh, no, baby what did you do?”
Lena-
Lena The Cat—and okay, so she’s still wrapping her head around that one—just stays silent. She’s sitting on her lap, looking regal than any cat has any right to be. A judgmental look in her eyes.
Lena’s a cat. Cat’s can’t speak. Can’t answer Kara’s questions.
“Right. Sorry. Only meow,” Kara murmurs, embarrassed. For some reason even in cat form Lena manages to be intimidating.
“Okay so, uh d-does that mean you still understand me? Two meows for yes. One meow for no.”
Kara gets two meows.
“Okay, cool, cool. Great. You can still understand me, that's good.” Kara runs a hand down her spine, “Gosh, your fur is just so soft.”
She hears Lena give a small growl, body tensing, “Right. Right. Sorry. Not the time for pets.” Kara retracts her hand away.
“Uhm, so next question then, I guess? D-did you become a cat this morning? Were you testing out your uhm...gift?”
Lena meows twice. Kara nods, clenching and unclenching her fist underneath her chin. Fingers itching to run themselves through Lena’s soft fur again. Lena seems to sense this, and nuzzles her face into Kara’s hand, bumps against her repeatedly.
“Really?” Kara double-checks, giddy. If she were human Kara bets Lena would be rolling her eyes like she always does when Kara does something particularly dorky, but she just pushes her head firmer against Kara’s hand and meows twice.
“So uhm,” she starts, cautiously, noting Lena’s increasing purr, “is there like a spellbook for this or something? Something that can help you transform back?
Lena meows yes.
“Is it in The Tower or back at your place?”
There are no responses.
“Sorry, sorry lemme rephrase, is it in The Tower?”
She gets two consecutive meows.
Okay, to The Tower it is.
******
“Are you going to tell me why you’re cradling a cat in your cape or??” Alex raises a brow at her, a hand on her hip, left foot tapping impatiently. Her sister was heading out for the day, it looks like. It was just tough luck that Supergirl landed one minute before the elevator took Alex.
Crap. Now they have to explain. They didn’t talk about this. Lena still hasn’t told her if it was okay to tell people about her gift.
“I-I rescued it,” Kara says.
Well, that isn’t so far from the truth, right? She stares at the bundle in her arms, Lena the traitor staying silent all the while—green eyes shining all innocent at Kara.
Alex’s stares intensifies.
“From a tree,” Kara flounders, and Lena The Cat has the audacity to yawn, squirm and jump away from her arms. She lands gracefully, tail swishing up in the air and heads straight for the lab.
Alex eyes the cat suspiciously before turning back to Kara. She jabs a finger to her chest. “It better not have any fleas. It better not touch my training mat.”
“She won’t.”
Alex just shakes her head, rolls her eyes, grabs her helmet and walks to the elevator.
Before she goes though, Alex says, “You know, this is gonna sound weird, but I swear I think I saw that same cat slinking out of The Tower earlier this morning.”
“Alex, she’s literally a black cat. There are hundreds of black cats in the city.”
“You're being weirdly defensive about this. Why are you being weird?”
“I’m not.”
Alex seems like she wants to say more, but the elevator dings, and she’s never been more grateful that Kelly makes Alex pick her up from work. Alex huffs out breath, before conceding and disappearing into the lift.
******
The camera flash is what gets Kara busted.
But is it really her fault if she walked in on a cute kitty, hunched over, meowing adorably, trying to flip over the pages of a thick spellbook, with her teeny-tiny bean paws?
Lena hisses at her, teeth-bared and fur puffy.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. But you were just really, really, really cute okay?” She walks closer to the desk, carefully lifts a hand and scratches Lena behind the ear.
The hissing slowly devolves into purring, and Kara grins triumphantly. Lena lets herself be picked up after a few moments, Kara leafing through the pages for her.
“So, found anything yet?” She asks, cradling Lena close to her chest. A warm weight on Kara’s arms, and as much as she wants to get her real Lena back, she also isn’t too eager on giving up this version anytime soon. Then again, Kara thinks, it would be impossible for her to give up any version of Lena Luthor.
“Spell? Charm? Anything? Do you need to make a potion? Are we gonna get to make a potion? Oh, oh do you need a wand? Do you have a wa-”
Kara’s words get muffled as two black paws press against her lips. Lena’s green eyes narrowing at her. She meows at Kara. Loudly.
“Mkay, mkay. Shut up. Got it.”
Lena removes her paws, and Kara makes a gesture of zipping her lips together. This seems to appease Lena enough because the next second, a pink tongue darts out and she...licks Kara's nose.
“Did you- did you just lick me?” Kara gasps out.
Lena doesn’t even acknowledge her with a meow, just turns away and jumps out of her arms again. Before Kara can do anything about it though, her phone rings.
The screen lighting up with Andrea’s name.
“Danvers, I’ve got a story for you.”
******
“Alex, please, I’ll be quick. I promise. I’ll only be three hours at the most. Please just look after her,” she pleads, pouting and puppy eyes in full power.
It also helps that the cat burrito in her cape looks to be cooperating. Lena The Cat staring at Alex with wide round eyes.
Apparently, some governor was found dead downtown, and now Andrea wants her on the scene. She can’t just leave Lena all alone in The Tower. No matter how hard Lena’s been protesting, this is brand new territory for both of them. Nobody knows the extent of Lena’s powers.
Point is, Kara would feel a lot better if she were to leave Lena under the care of someone she trusts. Even if said someone, accuses Lena of being a stray with fleas. It's still better than leaving Lena all on her own.
“Ugh.” Alex groans and Kara knows she’s won. “If this cat causes trouble I will throw it out the window, Kara.”
“No!” Kara yells, distressed. “Don’t do that. She’ll behave. She promises.”
She puts her hand under Lena’s arms and raises her up to eye level—Simba style. “You promise to be good for Alex, don’t you?”
All she gets is a lot of squirming and screaming, there were also a lot of attempts at scratching Kara’s nose.
“See?” Kara says, chuckling nervously. “She’s telling you she’s good.”
Alex looks skeptical, her arms crossed against her chest.
Kara sets her down on the couch, and crouches down low.
She tries to pet her head, but Lena bites at her finger, she catches her teeth on the skin of her supersuit’s thumb slot. She bites deeper, her teeth accomplishing nothing but a few dents.
And oh, Rao she thinks she’s such a feral little cat but her pink adorable gummy snarl says otherwise.
“I’m sorry, I’ll be back. I promise,” she whispers, careful not to let Alex hear. “And then we’ll figure it out later, okay? The safest place for you right now is to be with Alex.”
She really doesn’t want to go, and based on Lena’s protests she doesn’t want Kara to go either. But well, Andrea had finally threatened to fire her if she disobeyed...which is...fair.
She’s aware she’s been doing a less than stellar job at being a journalist lately. Rao, what an understatement. This is basically her make it or break it.
“Look, I’ll be quick, promise. Be good to Alex,” Kara murmurs. She presses a kiss on Lena’s furry forehead. Lena finally unclenches her jaw and lets Kara go. The little whine she lets out, letting Kara know that she knows the battle’s lost.
“Both of you, be good,” Kara tells them sternly. “Alex, please don’t yeet my cat out of the window.”
Alex shrugs, staring at the cat with suspicion. “I make no promises.’
Lena is staring at Alex just as hostile. Great. They both deserve each other.
Kara sighs exasperatedly. Well, at least she tried.
******
She gets a very angry Alex Danvers on the line, right after she’s finished talking to some sources. It’s nighttime now, and when she checks her watch—yep, she’s left Lena in Alex’s care for more than six hours.
Crap.
“Hey, Al—”
“KARA IF YOU DON’T PICK UP THIS THIS THIS GODDAMNED HAIRBALL RIGHT NOW, YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT EVER AGAIN.”
There is loud meowing, and then, “What the- Get off! Get off me right no-”
The line clicks dead.
Kara Danvers quickly changes into an alley, manages to break the sound barrier.
******
It’s Kelly who opens the door.
“Hey, Kara,” she greets her. Kara is impatiently rocking on her heels, trying to peer past Kelly’s shoulders.
The place was quiet; ridiculously quiet, and Kara feels fear swoop in her belly.
“Please, tell me my cat is still alive,” Kara bursts out, Kelly just gives her a pained smile and oh, no, oh no.
She muscles her way past Kelly to a brooding Alex on the couch.
Lena is nowhere to be seen.
“Alex, Alex where’s my cat? Where is she? Where did you put her?”
Alex finally looks up at her, Kara taking notice of the red marks on her arm.
Oh no, Lena, what did you do?
“Calm down, I didn’t throw the little demon away. She’s-" Alex sing-songs before finishing, "on time-out.”
“Time-out?” Kara asks, voice shaking. Rao, does she really want to know.
Alex takes too long to answer, taking a swig of her beer first before pointing to a corner in the living room.
And there, she spots it.
It, being a small pile of laundry on the floor, next to an upside down hamper. A big white hamper housing one Lena Luthor. There's a crude cardboard sign stuck on it; "Kitty Jail". Alex has also stacked a few encyclopedia on top of it, no doubt an attempt to keep Lena from escaping.
“Oh! Oh, Lena!”
Kara superspeeds her way and scoops Lena up, the cat meowing immediately and curling into Kara’s chest.
“You named the cat after Lena?!”
Crap.
Kara turns around slowly, “Uhm yeah?”
Alex just shakes her head. “Unbelievable.”
“Her eyes reminded me of Lena, okay?!” Kara yells defensively, pressing tiny kisses onto Lena’s fur.
“I’m sorry that Alex has been such a meanie to you," she coos, "I know you didn’t deserve it, baby."
Alex seems to perk up at that, because she raises up from the couch. “That,” Alex jabs a finger in their direction, Kara cradles Lena protectively, “That baby ruined my couch and she so totally deserves all the mean! All the mean in the world, Kara!”
Lena hisses in her arms.
“No, no. That’s not true. Lena is baby and she’s perfect and you’re just a meanie.”
“She ruined my upholstery! She left hair all over the place and that’s not even to mention the scratching!”
“Because you were mean to her!”
Alex scoffs, eyes bulging wide in disbelief.
“Get out,” Alex says, her brows pinching comically, “Get out of my apartment before that little devil causes more damage.”
“Gladly,” Kara says, and Lena meows her assent. They make their way past Alex, Kara unaware that Lena has stuck out her little tongue at Alex over her shoulder.
“And she’s not a little devil!” Kara calls out.
Alex slams the door in her face.
******
That evening, Kara pores over a thick spellbook, eyes swimming with Latin symbols with a purring machine on her lap.
By midnight, Kara has managed to pass out on her couch, a black cat curled on her chest.
The spellbook lay open on her coffee table, forgotten.
******
The first sight that greets Kara when she wakes up are green eyes.
Green human eyes.
And then it hits her.
“Lena!”
The spell had blessedly wore off by morning, and Kara’s never been more glad to see the sunlight lighting up Lena’s face.
Lena raises a brow at her. “Kara?”
“Are you- uhm- ah. Are you naked right now?”
Lena’s eyes light up like a cat’s and Kara knows she’s in trouble.
“Mm. It seems that I am,” Lena says, and all Kara can do is gulp.
“What are you gonna do about it?”
special shoutout to @mike-wachowski, @sexybread-png and @thebreakfastgod for their cat expertise without whom this silly little fic would not be written.
