From the back seat of her taxi, Padmé just stared at her iPhone screen. A break in? At this stage of the campaign, what could the motivation possibly be? She and Clovis were in a tight race for the Mayor of New York, and he might be cocksure, but he wasn't stupid enough to be unaware of how this would reflect on his campaign. Even if he wasn't the one who arranged for the break in, that was most certainly how the public would perceive it. Or was he really that stupid? It was fitting... the shades of Nixon and Watergate in the whole scenario.

She didn't really need to ask, she just asked the taxi driver to stop a couple of blocks earlier than the address she actually gave to him. "I've brought reinforcement," she said to her friend, lifting the bag of treats high and smiling encouragingly. Except the expression froze on her face for a fragment of a second when the men turned around to look at her. Honestly, both of them were attractive, but the younger of the two was unfairly so. She had never seen eyes so blue or so soulful in her entire life. He was tall and fit and his hair was just a glorious tangle of dark golden curls that she suddenly could visualize running her fingers through while they-

Maybe she needed to give Tinder another try if she was actually so starved for male company that she was reacting this way to a literal stranger. Even if he was the most gorgeous man she had ever met in her life.

Swallowing hard, she recovered her composure and forced her gaze away from Mr. Sexy Detective to Dorra. She walked over to her desk and set down her things, then turned to greet both men with a business-like smile, holding out her hand to shake. "Padmé Naberrie. Padmé x Aeron 5eva for @magikborn

If her parents had known that running a campaign for the US Senate would be this dangerous, Padmé was positive they would have tried to dissuade her from doing it, rather than give her the "oh honey, you can do anything you set your mind to" proud parent speech.

Only four weeks into the campaign, and she's already had eight credible death threats. She'd had to hire personal security, something she never thought would be necessary... well ever. Perhaps she should have expected this reaction from her political opponents. New York's reputation for cronyism was well established, from crime bosses to politicians on the take. Her campaign messaging around exposing fraud and ending the tyranny of corruption was bound to ruffle feathers. But, even though they were expected, the threats had still rattled her.

Not that she planned to let anyone know that. As she sat at her desk in her office, thumbing through her new security member's profile in its manila folder, she was poised and perfectly coiffed. The picture of self-confidence and determination. Hearing a knock at her door, she said, "Come in," and slid the folder aside. She trusted Dorra, her campaign manager, implicitly in all her hiring decisions, but she still wanted to get a feel for this new guy in person, since they were going to be spending a great deal of time together.

When the door opened, she looked up and her perfectly-crafted facade cracked for just a fraction of a second. Well shit... that passport photo in his file didn't do him any justice. A moment later, her warmly polite expression slid back into place. Standing, she reached her arm out across the desk to shake his hand. "Aeron Myricks, I presume? It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Padmé Naberrie. Welcome to the team."
