If you were to tell me, something I said in high school would come true, I'd laugh at your face. I didn't believe the possibility, and let alone in 2020.

I must have been a junior in high school in 2011, and it was lunchtime. My friends and I occupied the top staircase that led to nowhere with our sandwiches and jokes at hand. Someone began stating their dream job, and where they wanted to go in life, and I already knew one small part of myself - I would find myself working in a library.

The magnitude of who I would be in the library career wasn't considered, but I just said what my dream would be - tucked away in a small town working at a library while writing the next Hunger Games. Back then, I worked on the writing dream by creating fanfictions of my favorite shows, movies, and sometimes small stories. The fantasy of the future propelled me to very liberal arts during my college career, and I still wasn't planting the foundation to be a librarian.

I would graduate from college with a degree in English Literature and Art History, and trying to figure out what to do next. I fell into where I am now obtaining my librarian certificate, because I remembered the feeling when I spoke those words. It was the confidence in my capabilities and the mindset of accomplishing something.

My resume is eclectic; time in PR, art galleries in need of assistants, and a time where I got to sell my favorite brand of shoes, Doc Martens. Every job happened for a reason, and I glued myself to the ability to be adaptable.

Now everything is rolled into one, as I come to the end of my graduate program. Nostalgia for the journey I went on, with challenges either passed by or pushed through - if I could say something to that version of myself in high school that one day, I'd say -

Did you know dreams can come true?

heres the text off to the side, with some typos corrected for convenience. these are just notes i was taking as i developed the artstyle.

will's delusions and nightmares lean heavily on visuals. less emphasis on panels/concrete storytelling and more on vibes + art.

he is literally getting brain damage. we are watching his mind melt from the infection.

hes an unreliable narrator.

non-will perspectives take on a more standard comic/graphic novel format with uniform panel structures and dialogue.

side note on this, will uses more double-page layouts as demonstrated here.

when dream will wakes up in bed we get a moment of clarity before it fades to mush and he goes sploosh.

speaking of dreaming during The Big Sleep how lucid do you think he was for most of that?? he seems able to direct his dreams pretty well by the time they’re in skyhold, does he regain enough strength for that pretty soon after waking up if he didn’t retain it during uthenera?

At first, I genuinely think it was a wholly dreamless sleep. Just completely dead to the world, nothing but basic biological functions while his body tried not to die. I really do think putting up the Veil almost killed him, because it’s his own magic per Emmerich, and he was containing beings far more powerful than him with it. And moving the heart of Arlathan into the Fade.

So for at least a few centuries, Solas was just dead to every world.

He eventually started dreaming again and was lucid while he did, but he was very weak and he wasn’t always conscious in dreams. His mind was as exhausted/tapped out as his body, so he sort of came in and out. When he was in the Fade, it was more wandering than actually able to exert any control. Just a big, slow moving dream ratdog that unsuspecting dreamers would stumble on. 

The longer uthenera went on, the more strength (in draems) returned, so eventually he was able to fall into that role the Dalish eventually gave him - roaming the Beyond, checking on the integrity of the Evanuris’ prison and the Forgotten Ones’ prison. But he couldn’t really take any action. I feel like he saw the magisters assault the Golden City and there was nothing he could do. He saw how each blight weakened the prison and there was nothing he could do. 

As time ticked by and he got stronger, I think he started to try and influence dreamers more. I don’t think he could manipulate the Fade like he usually can, but he could at least engage with the people who were dreaming.

I love the idea of the Hunt for the Fell Wolf like we were talking about, so the closer we get to the Dragon Age, the more he’s trying to take a more active role. Trying to locate the idol, trying to counteract the evanuris’ ability to get their archdemons going, etc.

But it wasn’t until the Dragon Age that that power really started to get closer to his normal levels. He could finally start to manipulate the Fade with more control, he wasn’t as worn out, and he could more easily communicate with people in the waking world.

By the time of TME, he was very near his usual strength in the Fade (sorry again Fel). Once he finally woke up and started to physically experience the new world, he was even better able to control dreams because he understood the new playing field.

i am dying a little bit for two separate reasons here!! lando asking oscar to purr on him so that he can sleep better and oscar knowing full well that it's a bad idea but agreeing anyway?? you say 7k but i would read 70k of that. that's lando's emotional support cat okay

and the fennec fox art??? him inside oscar's hoodie stretching out his little paws. sitting there happily full of chicken wrap and anticipating oscar's belly rubs. oscar (presumably oscar!!) realising he is cold and putting him in his little sweater and scarf combo. and even just sleeping comfortably in oscar's stolen hoodie and draeming of a simple wdc victory!! that fox is adorable to me i love it all so much

anyway!!!!!!! isn't it just. @mecachrome knocked it out of the park with this one truly. the imagine of oscar putting the little sweater and scarf on a grumpy fox lando has me SOBBING. and him snoozing on top of oscar's hoodie and dreamng of world domination!!!!!!!! adorable
