The Boomback

Headcanons and design details below cut

Boombacks are rather large, stocky dragons, with broad shoulders and a short, rounded tail.

They are highly solitary in nature, only congregating into large groups (often into the hundreds) for about 1 month every year to breed. Both females and males fight to show their strength.

Female Boombacks lay multiple clutches, mostly pairs but occasionally single eggs, in various locations to increase the likelihood that the eggs (and hatchlings) would avoid predation.

Due to the rather... explosive nature of their hatching, hatchlings only have a 50% survival rate for their first few seconds of life.

Boombacks grow to maturity very quickly, and once they do they establish a territory of their own, which they defend fiercly.

Despite their solitary nature and general aggressiveness, they can be trained, and are some of the most common dragons to be so.

If Boombacks are raised by humans, they tend to be rather friendly and gentle (outside of breeding season, at least). They have among the hottest fire of any dragon, and are constantly emitting a steady heat, which is helpful for humans who live in cold climates, their large size and physical strength means they can do work it takes 5 horses to do, and their territorial nature means they defend their villages fiercely.

First Rescue Riders dragon of the lot, and while I know some of the other designs are gonna give me some trouble adapting them to my style, but these guys were no problem, even with the extra difficulty of only having hatchling designs to go off of. Honestly these guys are one of my favourite dragons in Rescue Riders. I'm always a sucker for creature designs that are black with yellow/orange/red highlights, as well as dragons with 'demon' horns. Plus the detail of their eggs exploding upon hatching to force the babies to learn to fly is super cool.

As for the design itself, the babies are round guys with little nubs of horns, and they gave me big Bull vibes, so it was pretty easy logic to make them big and broad and bulky, and to heap on those big horns since, again, they're one of my favourite things when it comes to dragon designs.

An alternative direction for Stryke Out where Elder gets stuck in a cage, Toothless is the top competitor for more than a few dragon fights, and— what's this? By Thor, there's a colorful mood dragon here, and she can speak Norse! What are the odds of that?

Little does Elder know that wherever this mood dragon is, Camicazi will be close behind.

Remember that old piece I made? Trying to redraw this dragon (The Relentless Rainbowhorn) into looking like it’s actually a part of the Httyd universe? Well, I’m trying again lol.

I am MUCH more lenient with Rescue Riders compared to 9 Realms. Simply because the creator confirmed it isn’t canon.

That said, almost none of the dragons in that show look like they are a part of the httyd world. They heavily lack certain details and design choices found in httyd and as a result they just look very out of place.

For example, did you notice that a huge majority of the dragons in httyd universe have their eyes near the front (very close to their noses) as their jaws continue past them towards the back like actual lizards? Even Toothless, the main dragon of the franchise, has this design detail! It’s kinda hard to explain in words… so here’s some visuals of what I mean!

Of course not all dragons a part of the httyd universe has this design similarity (like with Monsterous Nightmares and Gronckles for example). But it was something I wanted to point out and could probably help explain why the Rescue Rider designs look so strange, at least to me anyway lol.

Yall should watch Rescue Bots or Rescue Hero’s! Yall would love it since it’s all about rescuing people and animals!! I love watching both shows!

Rescue Bots is that Transformers show, right? I've watched a bunch of episodes some time ago and Rescue Bots Academy too! I still find it funny their cop bot is also named Chase!

You know what this also reminds me of...? Rescue Riders. Now that was a nice show too. Plus, dragons! You can never go wrong with dragons!

Me and my sister found ourselves snickering when we found out, that - after Aggro was acting unusually "nice" to Cutter (cus she's hypnotized) and Cutter concerns something's definitely off with her -

just watched the last 2 episodes of Race to the Edge. the quality of the last ep was such a step-up from the rest of the show lmao that was great. the last 5 minutes rly caught me off guard. I knew we were leaving the Edge behind of course we were but it happened so fast. I was also caught off guard by the sudden wave of nostalgia that washed over me. (I started watching this show 9 years ago. man.)

anyways every episodic show should have a wrap-up episode. 5 minutes at the end of a 20min series finale is not enough time to say goodbye.

Is a baby dragon and like I've said before it's hard to judge a baby dragon, but I do feel like this dragon has a potential to look cool growing up, probably kinda like Windwalker with uniquie tail

is basically dramillion aren't they? Design vice while there's nothing wrong with it and it's pleasing to look at but there's nothing stand out with it either, kinda bland, put it in the standard gecko dragon like Flamewhipper and Ramblefang

Memorazor

First of all, Really love the name and seeing the ability in action of it being a gas make it made sense, however, not the biggest fan of the design, there're some interesting element to it like curl spike that vaguely reminds me of Silkspanner but as it stand it looks too much like baby dragon (assuming the one here is actually adult) and even then would stuck in the "another bland gecko dragon" catogory
