just fell into a sort of cursed demi-sleep on the couch, which i do anyway but esp when sick. and i had various basically normal dreams, until right at the end when a little girl approached me asking me to read her essay and tell her if it was right about science. in the dream, i took her essay, started reading it, tried to comment on it, and then realize i absolutely could not get myself to look at her face or make eye contact. so i kept trying to kind of drag my eyes towards her face as i discussed things about her essay, feeling terribly guilty that this kid was having to deal with feedback from someone acting like they were too bored to open their eyes properly, and this went on for a few dream-minutes until i woke up.

if i were a particular kind of overconfident "spurious insights" blogger, i would at this point say that that's probably because i am pretty faceblind and in particular don't seem to actually ever remember or visualize anyone's face in a dream; i retain lots of other visual details on waking up and i think my dreams, like my memories/imagination, just have a sort of nebulous smear and a metadata label instead of giving anyone a face. so obviously in this case my mind knew that, in my semi-lucid state, i'd be extra bad at either rendering a face or ignoring that the child didn't have one, and therefore i suddenly experienced a bunch of difficulties preventing me from actually looking at the face of the child.

i don't think it's that, though. i think i'm just tired and sick and had a weird experience
