The Midden

Tired, half-lidded eyes scanned an open book splayed out upon her desk. Hunched over it, hair askew, was Demenia - a student at the college, and an unusual looking Dunmer. While stark white hair was not unheard of, it was rare, and most notably found in the Drethan family line. She pushed back her hair, tucking it behind her ear, and looked up upon hearing footsteps enter the College of Winterhold's supply room. It was arguably the most boring job one could hold at the institution, but Demenia enjoyed the mundanity of it.

"Good evening," she greeted. Her polite smile widened upon locking eyes with another dark elf. There was something about seeing another of her race that made her feel so very much at home. She missed Morrowind with everything she had.

"Can I help you?" The adept mage asked. Her head tilted to the side slightly. "And are you with the college? I'll have to charge you for supplies if you don't have an association with us, I'm afraid."

Realizing that the book she's been busy reading was still splayed open, she quietly closed it, and slid it under the desk - hoping this person wouldn't notice. As it was tucked out of sight, one might have caught the words: 'Investigative Reports: The Midden' helpfully printed along the cover.

Some concepts. Alabaster/Hazel, Bianca/Jason, Ethan/Drew, Ethan/Reyna. Ethan/Bianca, Ethan/Annabeth, Ethan/Clarisse, Rachel/Hazel, Will/Annabeth. Thoughts?

I always love receiving your concepts, so let's see :

Alabaster/Hazel (Alabazel, Hazelaster) : Wait... Did you just... Did you just give me a new ship of magicians ? Cause... thank you ! Thank you so much I love it ! I already paired Alabaster and Hazel with Calypso, but here you just gave me a new ship and a new polyship anon ! So yes, I love the ships including the different sorcerers of the books (Calypso, Hazel, Alabaster, Lou Ellen and all of the TKC cast), and Hazel/Alabaster sounds really nice : Hazel has a huge support potential, Alabaster and her have a lot in common (like their relationship with their parents and how they're not used to social interactions) and I love the idea of Alabaster bonding with the underworld children, Hazel is part of it, so I love it.

Bianca/Jason (Biancason, Jasianca) : Again, shame on me for not having thought about it, that's so great. I think they complete each other in a unusual way : Bianca is used to be forced to have everything in control, like Jason, when he was praetor. Maybe in an AU where Bianca survives and go with the Seven to Roma in order to save her brother, the two could become friends, then lovers. I'd see Bianca helping Jason to accept to give up his role of praetor, to understand that, with her in his life, he doesn't need and want all those responsibilities anymore. I don't know, I love the potential it has. And a family-like bond between them, Thalia and Nico, it's a big yes (oh, and it would piss Zeus and Hades to death, that's a great bonus point).

Ethan/Drew (Drethan) : I'm not completely sure. But it has a lots pros : two characters in need of redemption, Ethan is the straight to the point kind of guy Drew needs to receive criticism and advices from... But Drew is straight to the point too, in a different way, Ethan is pretty introverted, he is direct when he snaps, quick and effective, but otherwise, he prefers to ignore the others. Drew would take him out of his hiding spot, and force him into social interactions, against his will of course. It could be an incredible friendship, with two opposites who match with each other against all odds. I'm not certain for a love relationship, I still think about it, but that's one of my favorites fanon BrOTP.

Ethan/Reyna (Rethan, Ethyna) : Beautiful, wonderful, I love it. I already shipped it and it's awesome. First, it combines two of my favorites characters. And second, they'd match really well, yes they both are reserved, cold and hard to befriend, but I think at the first contact, between them and the two camps maybe, they'd immediately invest the other. Like, if the two sides start to argue, they would defend the other, without even knowing each other, they'd understand there way of thinking quickly. That's the kind of relationship I see matching very soon. And my favorite headcanon about this ship is them being extremely flustered everytime the other shows any sign of romantic attraction to them, but they always keep the hard face, no matter what (but their love for each other would be easily noticed by anyone who would spend more than two minutes with both of them). That's one of my favorites crack PJO ships.

Ethan/Bianca (Ethianca) : Already talked about it here. To resume, I love it, one of my favorites ships for both of them. It's greatly great.

Ethan/Annabeth (Ethabeth) : Post TLO friendship, bonding over Luke's death, strategic planning for capture the flag, friendly rivalry, Annabeth being a protective friend with Ethan... Hum yes, yes yes yes, awesome. I love it. I'm already convinced they would have been best friends in canon if Ethan had survived, so a couple, I'm in.

Ethan/Clarisse (Etharisse, Clarethan) : Again, I thought about it but I prefer it as a friendship. But that's great, again, Clarisse would help Ethan through his redemption, especially cause he'd certainly be friend with Chris. I want this two to bond, but I prefer them as friends, I still like that ship, but I don't have any AU for it.

Rachel/Hazel (Hachel, Razel) : I love it, I already said some things about it while talking about OT3 including them both. They are cute, they love art, they are badass : perfect. Rachel could make Hazel discover the world, new technology, obscure art things... It's adorable, I love that pairing.

And Will/Annabeth (Willabeth) : They're already friends, and have potential. I'm not sure how to explain why, but I like that ship. Will is fun, cool and chill, like Percy, but without the darker side Percy hides. Will could be the friend Annabeth confides to between the different PJO adventures. They both are genius in their specialty, and I love imagining Annabeth admiring Will's capacities, and wanting to learn medicine tips from him. I really like this pairing, but I unfortunately don't have a lot to say about it.

Even vampires need a place to rest, and today's Mod of the Day provides just such an amenity, as long as you don't mind dusty old tombs. Our Mod of the Day today is The Weary Vampire By OperatorJack, which is technically both a dungeon overhaul and a player house mod, overhauling the Drethan Ancestral Tomb, adding atmospheric lighting, clutter and detailing with OAAB assets, including a new blood-letting area, as well as a bedroom and cells with cattle for the hungry vampire. Originally, this tomb was associated with "The Weary Vampire" quest in vanilla Morrowind, available only to vampire characters, where the resident vampire would ask you to kill her, and now, when you do so, you'll be able to move in and take over this tomb as a player home. Or, if you don't play as a vampire, this could also just work as a neat little dungeon overhaul. Either way, it's a pretty cool mod that's worth checking out here!

Im curious about the different types of daedra that there are. The dremora, the xivkyn, the xivilai, the golden saints and the mazken and so on.. Are they different types of subspecies? Or is it like a clan sort of thing? And if its the former, then what makes them different?

Daedra are told apart mostly by their physical attributes, dispositions, and who they serve. Those you have listed, along with most others, are not subspecies, so much as simply different races, much like the multiple races of Tamriel. Each Daedric Prince has created a race, or multiple races, of daedra to serve under them, which includes those you have mentioned in this inquiry. It would take far too long to go through every single daedric race, so allow me to give just a few details of the above 5.

First is the Dremora, servants of the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon, though they are not strictly bound to one Lord. These hierarchical daedra take pride in their ability to find order within the midst of chaos. Or, what they consider order, at the very least. They are known to form clans, wherein kyn are ranked, much like our own societies. Now and then, Dremora will seek professions outside of being simple warriors, both within the realms of Oblivion, and even on Nirn. In fact, the Mages Guild will sometimes use a summoned and magically bound Dremora in order to deliver messages to those outside of the Guild. They often have skin tones that range from ashen grey, blue, purple, or red, and vary rather wildly in height.

Next are the Xivilai, who are closely related to the Dremora, often serving the same Princes. These daedra are physically stronger, however, and protective of their personal respect. This makes Xivilai more difficult to utilize, and thus Dremora tend to be easier to bind. Xivilai are also less likely to form clans, and are more often seen wandering alone, or in pairs, choosing to make their own paths. The relationship between the Xivilai and the Dremora is a tense one, due to this difference in opinions. These daedra are usually of muscular builds, have a blue-grey skintone, and sharp yellow eyes.

Xivkyn are actually hybridizations of the Xivilai and the Dremora, created by Molag Bal in his Vile Laboratory. They serve Bal specifically, as his personal guard. The Xivkyn retain many personality traits from their forebears, though they are far more loyal than the Xivilai. They are militaristic, and skilled in both physical and magical combat. These towering daedra share a resemblance to their Prince, with blue-grey skin, black horns, and cold blue eyes.

Both the Aureal (also known as the Golden Saints), and the Mazken (also known as the Dark Seducers), serve the Daedric Prince of Madness, Sheogorath, though the two despise one another, both groups considering themselves the better followers.

The Aureal’s society is matriarchal, wherein men are considered lesser beings, even by the men themselves. They follow an eight-tier hierarchy, with special titles given to each rank. Their home within the Shivering Isles is Brellach, located in the northern part of Mania, which they are often greatly associated with. Golden Saints are known for their appropriately golden, avian-themed armor, golden skin, and cat-like eyes, similar to those of their Prince. Mortals are generally hated by these daedra, unlike their Seducer counterparts, who tend to be far more patient when encountering them.

The Mazken, on the other hand, tend to be disloyal to one another, and are known to serve many Princes besides Sheogorath. However, their society is also notably matriarchal, though this is based more on the fact that Mazken males tend to be far more frail than their female counterparts, branding them inferior. They also follow a similar hierarchy, though with only 7 tiers, and differing titles. These daedra hail from Pinnacle Rock, within the Shivering Isles, and are associated with Dementia. Mazken are known to be most often scantily-clad in serpentine armor, have blue, purple, grey, or even human-like skintones, and possess large bat-like wings.

Skyrim Setting: Refugees Rest

Along the road out of Skyrim east of Windhelm, leading to a pass in the Velothi mountains to Morrowind there is a tower covered in flags. Despite the tower’s location in Skyrim, the flags are of Dunmer origin. Several of them have Daedric lettering. The tower itself is not in good condition. Its foundation is beginning to collapse, and the tower leans slightly to the side. Across the road, a broken and abandoned wagon lies rotting in a patch of mountain flowers. Snowberry bushes flower around the base of the tower. A wooden signpost stands in front of the tower with a short plinth at its base. “Decree of Monument” the top of a bronze plaque declares in both Cyrodiilic and Daedric lettering.

This tower once served as a meeting place where those brave souls who achieved safe passage to Skyrim would find loved ones, and leave notice for others who could not be found. Inside the tower there is a small shrine with burnt out candles, wooden beads, and the remains of incense reverently placed in front of a three sided, prism shaped altar to the Three. To the side there lies two damp-warped books. The walls of the inside of the tower are completely covered with rustling sheets of paper with messages in Daedric script written over every available inch. A flight of stone stairs leads up to the roof, and the open rooftop portal lets in a ray of sunshine that illuminates rain ruined notes along the walls of the stair. Though most of the notes are ruined, some are legible.

Boderi, I cannot stay in Vvardenfell, and I refuse to stay with my family in Tear after what I have seen them do. I am going to find work in High Rock. Do not worry for me. I miss you.

Ridena, It is a miracle we made it through the pass, the ash storm was so thick, but we are all safe, thank the Three. I think they will saint the woman who led us through the pass. As soon as we were safe she turned back to help another group. The talk around the camp is that she has corprus, but she has been making the trip through the pass for months helping travellers. She reminded me of you. I know it is selfish of me, but I wish you had not stayed behind to help the ones up at the tower. I miss you terribly. Please be alive.

Ashur-Dan, I am taking the tribe to Windhelm. They have set aside a section of the city for refugees, and they will need a good merchant or two. Come soon.

Falura Llervu

Up the stairs, on the roof of the tower there are even more flags, and a cracked and weathered chest. Though worn, the chest is of sturdy Redoran make, the kind even Dunmer in other houses actively seek for valuables.

The chest contains a long, embroidered wedding dress that looks like it had once been beautiful, but is now mildewed past the point of recovery. Underneath is a thick ruby necklace with the figure of a scarab that looks as though it might be enchanted, a jeweled ceremonial dagger in a tooled leather sheath, and a smaller, ornately carved, lacquered wooden box–all family heirlooms. Inside the little carved box there are faded, yellowing papers and a small sack of gold. The papers appear to be deeds to property in Ald’Ruhn that is likely no longer in existence, an old map that is likely out of date, and contracts that are likely long expired.

Behind the tower is a graveyard. It has several graves and stone urns, and a large circle of stones that looks like it once held ashes, now long blown away. The graves are unkempt, and there are vines growing out of one of the urns. One child sized grave has a patch of yellow flowers growing over it.

Decided to remake my Dunmer Sorcerer as a Dragonknight and give him his correct name. Witches Festival is a great way to level, really enjoying Dragonknight (I’ve never really done it before, so it’s nice to finally try it!)

My original was called Drethan Sethri (which is a name he made up because he’s into a lot of bad things) and he was a stamina Sorcerer, I think magic Dragonknight will be a better suit.
