When I pointed out that there were masks that let you breathe underwater, he told me he hadn’t heard of them, so maybe he has been in the swamp a little TOO long. 5. Finally, and this advice comes from me directly… Stay on dry land, and find someone else to do the work for you.

We all love the winter season, but sadly most of us spend our winters sneezing and coughing.
That’s what I had to go through every winter and while everyone was playing with snow, making snow mans I was inside my house watching them from my window.
Well since I have done some changes in preparing myself for the winter season, I am no longer the one to be standing in the window. Here is what I need you to understand…
Our bodies respond to cold weather by tensing up, and it’s harder to relax when you are holding your body tightly, so the first tip is to take avoid the cool breeze and allow your body to relax. So choose a few new self-care strategies to try, get cozy and enjoy the unique beauty that only the winter months can bring.
 Say Hello to the Sun everyday
Avoiding the sunlight and packing yourself up inside can have a great negative affect on your mood and the resistance of your body. The sun's UV rays help your body make this nutrient, which is important for your bones, blood cells, and immune system. It also helps you take in and use certain minerals, like calcium and phosphorus. So the first rule is to shower yourself with sunlight every day, for about 20-30 minutes. I live in Great Neck and I often give a visit to my ENT specialist. My ent great neck always suggests me to take sun light in order to keep myself healthy and happy.
Enjoy hot baths
A good old soak with your favorite bubble bath or bath salts is a great way to warm up yourself in the cold winter. Know that, warming up relaxes the tense muscles. Resulting in relaxing you.
Find an infrared sauna
The infrared sauna can really help relaxing those sore, tired muscles and can give you a really good warm up. They can also help you a lot if you have any arthritis pain and can promote better sleep along with great blood circulation.
Try floatation therapy

Experiment with outdoor winter sports
If you can find the time to play outdoor sports then you will have a great experience in boosting your enjoyment of the winter season. Losing Thoughts and Forgetting Their Trails
I've lost my thought in therapy several times now. Not "cats got'ur tongue" but like a whisper of something purple or blue that dissipates before I can even get my grip back on it.
I sit there in her mass produced chair with scratchy upholstery itching my calves and thighs while cold metal digs int my forearms. My knee can't stop bouncing and my eyes can't stop staring at that space on the wall opposite me. A completely non-descript space on the wall but my mind is entirely incapable of grasping any detail beyond it.
My whisp is gone. My blue whisp. Or was it purple? It faded into black, that I knew. It bothered me that not only could I not retrieve my original thought and it's properties but I now I was losing my whisp entirely.
My teeth clenched and I swallowed hard as my body used it's instincts to bring myself from the abstract infinity and back into the therapy room. It had been mere moments for the greying woman across from me but hours inside my head. I opened my mouth to speak, finding my mouth dry and my words stuttered and stumbling over themselves, "I'm sorry I seem to have lost where I was going with that. What were we talking about?"
Her hesitation and unconfident glances through her doodle covered notes spoke louder than her own response "oh it's ok, we all get caught up in a thought now and again. We were talking about..."
I found this curious considering her answer was a topic covered at least fifteen minutes prior. Perhaps I wasn't the only one to lose a thought, though I suspect hers was more out of boredom or indifference. After all, how long can you sit in a chair and listen to abstracts for hours while being expected to speak of them as concrete.
In that moment I decided she didn't need to learn about my whisp. She didn't need to know details of the seizure damage or the brain disfunction. She could handle the sad days and share my happy accomplishments. But the deeper I go, the more air I need to exhail into her lifesaving flotation device. I am used to living in the depths without air. She is trained to float on the surface and look down from safety.
Therapy is for mental health, not mental Illness. That's why they fill us with pills. Simplify us and float us to the surface. Make us forget about losing our blue and purple whisps. Make us forget about how it feels to swim. But floatation devices break and what are we left with then? A handful of pills and atrophied limbs.

2018 SMA Candle Lighting

Hello again everyone! Today is the day of the SMA Candle Lighting for this year. The photo above is from a long time ago, it is of me in the swimming pool when I used to be able to swim with boundless energy and without assistance of a flotation device. Hopefully those days will return to me soon with the help of Spinraza.
This photo, to me, is an example of hope, as many rehabilitation programs consist of water therapy. Moving in the water is much easier than walking on dry land.
The Candle Lighting means so much more to me this year than any other year I have participated. In previous years, it was to help spread awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy to allow people to be more aware of this extremely rare disease. But this year, this year it is completely different for me. With Spinraza coursing my veins this year, I feel like Spinal Muscular Atrophy has a run for its money now. Now there is a future for people with this disease, even if they cannot get this amazing medication yet. Scientists now have the key that will open the door to curing this illness that takes lives away.
This year’s Candle Lighting is more than just putting a flame to a candle, that flame signifies the energy that gathers from all the people doing the same thing around the world for the same reason. We are energy that was given to us by the stars, now it’s time for us to use that energy to give the SMA community hope and happiness. As today is the day that we do not think about all the struggles we had to endure to be in this specific moment, we just live in today instead of the past. We just hope that one day, we won’t have to light these candles anymore because this disease will be eradicated.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the most important part! When your candle is shining bring, please send me a photograph either with or without yourself in it so I can boast to the world that we will not give in to SMA.

I tried flotation therapy
and it was awesome! Flotation therapy is something I’ve been umming and ahhing about for quite some time... mostly because of the price (usually around $80 - $90 for an hour) and claustrophobia.  Really the only time I’ve ever seen someone ‘float’ is when Eleven lies in the pool in Stranger Things Season 1 so she could use her abilities to her full potential. [That didn’t happen to me although I tried my hardest]
All excuses aside I was gifted for xmas a 1 hour flotation therapy session + 1 hour oil massage at Luxe Therapy. (yes I know I am ridiculously spoiled)

How it went down:
I was taken to my Private float tank room and instructed to remove all jewellery, remove all clothing (you are able to float naked or you can wear underwear/swimmers) and shower briefly without using soap/conditioner.  I was also asked if I would prefer music to play for 10 minutes and fade out to silence, then fade back for the last 10 minutes of the session or if I wanted music to play for the entire duration. I chose for the full duration.
When I was ready I popped in the ear plugs I was given and stepped into the massive pod that took up majority of the room. The water was warm and silky and smelt wonderful (like a luxe spa lobby).

I just started giggling because it was so bizarre. I was in a giant egg full of salt that had its own light show. As soon as I sat on the bottom of the tank and extended my legs my body floated up instantly and effortlessly. My neck wasn’t strained at all and as my ears went under the water I began to hear the music playing.
After a few minutes I stood up again and closed the pod. It was so magical with the roof down and it became a lot more warmer. I started to massage the water into my skin and stretching my limbs out. 
Occasionally I would float around and my foot or hand would hit a wall. It felt like I was floating away for kilometres. 
After what felt like 4 hours I stood up and opened the pod to check my phone legitimately thinking I was definitely in there for hours... it had only been 27 minutes. So yes it got boring.. I also needed a drink of water my throat was as dry as a camels..well you know the saying.
So I slid back into the pod after sculling my bottle of water and shut my eyes and turned of the lights. I’m unsure if I actually fell asleep or just came close to it but before i knew it a soothing voice entered the pod “your session has ended” and the pod filter turned on. 
I got up feeling completely jelly like, as soft as a baby’s bottom and so pain free. So I jumped in the shower, washed off the salt, brushed my hair and just chilled the heck out.
I had my one hour oil deep tissue massage following the float and it was amazing.
By the end of the afternoon I had no headache, my skin looked and felt fresh and rejuvenated - both my face and body and my sinuses were pain free. It is something I will recommend everyone tries at least once in their lives.  It’s a very different feeling and it has many benefits;  -pain management -healing -decreased stress -absorption of magnesium through the skin
