Not your hard drive, not your data.
There's been a lot of bad news regarding actually owning anything that was digitally acquired. From Funimation to Sony. A lot of stuff people bought just stopped existing.
Ross Scott from game dungeon is trying to end the perma death that takes place with Live Service games.
It's gotten people to really talk about buying physical media again.
And to me, this is a flawed thought process. Owning the physical device won't save it forever. In fact, most media does have a physical form. Companies typically keep a master copy of whatever is created and sold/broadcast. A lot of that content becomes essentially lost media but in reality, we're just looking for someone who is willing to digitize the only physical copy that exists for that item.
You're thinking "Oda, one copy is good. It's better than no copies, and all we want is to own a copy and we're willing to pay for it to and that will preserve it better in the end." And that's a convincing argument. But we need to talk about how things are preserved.
CDs are how most TV shows and video games are saved and copied and CDs can last anywhere between 20 to 100 years.
Did I say 20 to 100 years? I mean to say, 1 day to whenever you scratch it accidentally. Sun damage, dropping on the floor, having it sit on a surface and gather dust, hell, running the CD wears it out after awhile.
This is the same issue with books. Of course we need to keep books. Books are valuable and priceless, but if you aren't keeping your books maintained by rebinding it, touching up the faded ink, and keeping the book basically unmolested in a temp controlled container, it's going to rot on your shelf and become useless. Hell, forget about extremists burning your books. Bugs are going to eat it first.
Having multiple physical copies is the way but it should be in a format that is easily transferable. CDs are quickly becoming obsolete and once CD drivers stop being built it will be a pain in the ass to rip data from a CD (This isn't even including Blueray CDs which are even harder to extract data from).
What you don't want is to just have a CD of the game or TV show. You just need physical data on a hard drive. Once you have a copy on your hard drive, you can copy that data onto other hard drives, you can copy that data onto a cloud service that you use like Dropbox or Megaupload. You can also illegally torrent or re-upload your copy so other people can have it.
I see this argument a lot in digital currency spaces. Just because it's effectively invisible doesn't mean it doesn't exist physically. Physical ownership should not mean becoming a very organized hoarder.
It should mean dumping and ripping everything you buy whether it's some CD you bought at Best Buy or it's some show you bought legally on a online store that you don't really own because the fine print said you were just renting it long term but fuck them, you bought it, therefore you should use video rippers to make whatever you bought actually yours (and if you are wondering, no, I don't use those specific methods but the method I use I had to actually pay for).
And once you have it. Make a backup, Make a backup of that backup, make a remote backup, and make sure when your time comes someone can find your copy of it.
With video games there are data dumpers and ROM sites galore. The really hard part is getting a emulator that runs the games effectively. Citra was caught in the AOE when Nintendo Ulted Yuzu and they just Surrendered at 20. Even when Citra was alive though it wasn't replacing a 3DS in a lot of ways. There are a lot of games that were dependent on the various software and hardware functions that a 3DS had that the Citra doesn't accurately replicate. You CAN play Tomodachi Life on a Citra but good luck not destroying your OLED from your miis asking for sneeze assistance. Forget using the AR camera or even the normal camera. Citra crashes or creates scrambled images when taking in game screenshots.
The mic doesn't work either so mic related games just don't work.
But Tomodachi Life can be generally played. It gets uglier when you think about games like Rusty's Real Deal baseball. A game that requires you connecting to the store to make a purchase. An action that is completely impossible now. How about all the games that were Mii related? Spotpass? Streetpass?
Eccentric games that requires specific hardware and software to run are basically easy to copy but impossible to run. Real preservation is in completely replicating the environment they used to function in which is a level of techno wizardry most people don't have.
Which brings me to the Sisyphean task of making sure games with dedicated servers gain the ability to live forever as a zombie.
When a multiplayer game is kept alive through user owned servers, it lives in only the most literal sense. Imagine all those failed live service games that had their audience dwindle down to zero before closing forever. Would those games have been saved if you just gave players the ability to set up their own server? No, because most of those games require several hundred players to really function correctly.
Similar to how just owning the ROM to Rusty's Real Deal Baseball doesn't grant you the ability to play it like it originally was. A live service game that has lost 99% of its audience is not saved by having it's existence put on life support via the one person willing to host a server for it and maybe five other people willing to play it for a few hours a year.
It is unfortunate but in order to actually preserve Live Service games we have to let them die and allow for the idea that made the game to be reborn into something more sustainable. Instead of a Live Service or an MMO it's just a single player experience. Maybe it is multiplayer but the other players are just sophisticated AI and the occasional human player.
Preservation isn't just about having something sitting around and rotting. It's about acquiring something at it's most functional, and then replicating that and if something truly cannot be saved, it must be remembered and remade. CDs, Books, even Hard Drives die.
But ideas are forever.

Illegal Sand Mining is one of those issues which have seen a huge amount media attention and at times a few lethal accidents as well. It is said that wherever it is carried out, it nurtures and runs a parallel economy where they have the support of the local people.
I never imagined my first week as SDM & SDO would be so exciting and happening as it turned out to be.
Kandi sub division sees the maximum amount of sand mining among all sub divisions in Murshidabad and in fact one of the highest in the state. The sand mining though is not illegal, what is though illegal is the fact that almost all of them are mining over and above the allowed limit and overloading, paying a small amount of fine and getting away with thousands of rupees worth of minerals and at the same time causing environmental damage and damage to our roads due to the overloading.

So to check all of this, the district administration decided to start and very aggressive campaign, to check illegal sand mining, overloading and the plying of vehicles long past their legal age. There are obviously a lot of other major and minor issues which come up when such a campaign is planned. These people are very smart, almost always finding a way to carry by finding some alternative. They know very well that the administration has n number of other things and many of them are even more important and that they can’t be looking here all the time.
You have reluctant officers, afraid staff & inadequate infrastructure to solve an issue which needs none of this. Anyways, we have to start somewhere.
On one such occasion, the land officials in my sub division were asked to go and serve notices to people who have stacked illegal sand on the road side, one of the illegal acts they were involved in and one which was a cause of many accidents. It was instructed to take adequate force but somehow this time he didn’t.
What happened next was fairly predictable, I got a letter telling me how the land official was surrounded by hundreds of people, and threatened. He had to run for his life. While it was his mistake that he didn’t take any force with him and didn’t follow the SOP, it was nonetheless not justified for anyone to attack or threaten or intervene when a govt official is trying to do his job, it’s an offence under the IPC as well.
I was surely not gonna let this pass. I had the backing of the district administration, so I made an elaborate plan.
I called the land officials, the transport officials, police officials at my office the next day early morning, I didn’t tell them why or that I have asked others to come as well. When I reached my office I had all of them come there one by one, slightly surprised but aware that it was going to be a sudden raid, they still didn’t know where though.
I called the land official who was threatened as well and asked him to take us to the same spot. We reached there in 20 minutes, this time though we were not alone, and I was there well.
This time though they were taken by surprise. We were able to catch them red handed in fact, illegally transporting the illegally stacked sand. As soon as the driver of the JCB saw us from a distance, he tried to get off and run away. He was able to run away as well but we got hold of other men there and the driver was soon called to the scene by those apprehended by us. The Motor Vehicles Inspector in the meanwhile checked for all the documents and found that the JCB was in violation of almost all the requirements there were under the Motor Vehicles Act and to add to that it was also indulging in gross violation of Mines and Minerals Act, so it was seized.
We decided to move ahead on the same road and serve notices to all those who were stacking sand illegally. On my next stop, yet again, multiple dumpers and a JCB were impounded but the real fun began when the owners showed up. One could see how human psychology works, they tried all the tricks they had, pleading, negotiating, aggression, intimidation and of course when nothing worked begging to let them go.
I was of course not there to let them go, not that I had that power anyways, it was not for me to decide but the relevant authorities, in this case the courts. I had tried my best to keep everyone uninformed but by the time we had reached our third or fourth spot, media had reached there. I decided to leave for another meeting, instructing the second officer there to keep moving ahead and keep the process well documented and recorded, to keep me posted of all happenings and to continue serving notices till the end of day.
It was a great exercise and we ended up serving some of the biggest offenders and seized multiple JCBs and Dumpers. Though the amount of money involved is so much that this one raid would not stop anything but yes it would surely instil some fear and it would also send a signal that things might not be the same anymore.

Yesterday I called my mom and went on for an hour about a past experience which occurred about nine months ago, wherein the person involved [said experience] made a minor appearance in my life. Barely an appearance, more of a dishonorable mention. I have reason to believe this person was going to try to weasel their way back into my life, however I’ve blocked them on social media for reasons that are obvious to myself and everyone aware of what happened, but apparently not them. 
I went on and on about the specifics of the situation from December. To spare details so as to not relive them, here’s what you need to know:
There was a person in my life who I was unfortunately infatuated with, who also happened to be incredibly manipulating to me mentally and physically. There were a few changes I wanted to make with my appearance during this time. I wanted to stop wearing makeup. This person did not want me to, so every day I applied it. I wanted to cut my hair, this person did not want me to, so it stayed long. I went to the gym five times a week just so this person would take a second look at me; so they would tell me I am beautiful “the way [I am]”. I had a tattoo! They wished I had clean skin... catch my drift? 
I had been strung along by them for over a year already, telling myself everyday that I would wait until she was not longer in the picture. By December, they finally decided that I was good enough… for about three weeks, until I wasn’t anymore. She was always better. 
December was also three months into my unintentional gap year, where I was alone almost every day while all my friends were in college. Also the month where I was hearing back from potential schools to attend in January, and the month I got rejected from them. The month I woke up and felt I had absolutely no purpose. 
This person destroyed the last remaining hope and happiness I had in my life. And just a few weeks ago, this dumper became the dumpee. And through my best friend, they tried to slip back in through the filled-in cracks. Dangerous territory. 
Telling my mom about this- things she already knew, but a lot she didn’t,- made me think about the person I have been for the past several years of my life. It breaks my heart to think about how I viewed myself all that time. Although incredibly inconsistent, (ups and downs, what not,) there has always been a common factor: Horrible insecurity.
This roots back to the seventh grade. Since I was thirteen, I’ve had a problem with the way my body looks. I was always too chubby, never skinny enough, my thighs always touched, I was never tall enough, boys never liked me and always called me a prude. No matter how much I wanted to, I hated working out, I hated “dieting”, I was never good at sports nor did I care to partake in them anyway.
I look back on photos of myself from those past years and wonder why I ever hated my body. Who told me that it wasn’t okay for me to love myself because I wasn’t skinny? Why did I ever believe them?
Only now, I have arrived at a destination of happiness and contentment with my physical appearance. I keep my hair short now, I never wear makeup, I will continue getting tattoos until I can’t see skin (or at least a few more,) and I think I’ll keep it that way, because I love myself like this. Now my true personality, the girl I really, really love, is out. The hippie, the old-soul with Dad music taste, the movie-obsessed, the girl with a laugh that turns heads. This sensation of finally being content is manifesting in everyday life. I greet bus drivers as I would a friend, I tell Uber drivers my life story, I am able to be Nina around anyone and everyone. And damn, it feels good.
Of course, there will always be growth to be had, but I was never able to move forward until I dug myself out of the dirt. I could even say I’d like to thank this person of my past, because it was in part due to them that, I finally understand my inner and outer beauty; a piece of a puzzle that took me six years to put together. That was not the first time I told myself to wait until it was convenient for someone else, but I can confidently say it was the absolute last. I will never allow myself to be anybody’s second choice.
Love me and don’t dare change a thing, or beat it. 
Maybe you already know all of this. I hope you do. It’s very easy to believe that everybody surrounding you has already come to this conclusion, that everybody has found security, but that’s impossible. Impossible to never find a fault, to never have a bad day again. 
This is the journey.

Be prepared to be flexible if the excavation process reveals some surprising ground conditions (setting aside a healthy contingency budget is essential for this stage).
How Are Building Foundations Made?
Building a good foundation requires a lot more than digging a hole and pouring some concrete into forms. It must be tailored to its site like a custom suit, taking into account soil conditions, water tables, even the quality of the backfill.
And as with a custom suit, every detail must be perfect: the base properly compacted, the formwork set up right, the concrete free of voids. Neglect even one of these, and the most carefully poured foundation can fail.
Then, whether you’re project managing, taking on some of the work yourself, or want to have an overview of what your builder is about to do, here is a step-by-step guide for laying out your building foundations.
You will typically need:
mesh reinforcement in the foundation concrete
compressible material for lining the trenches
a polythene slip membrane
cut metal pins to use as markers ready on site
several rakes and pairs of wellies (you’ll be surprised how many people turn up for work in trainers)
to be aware of any lead-in times. If the engineers have designed a foundation that requires reinforcement cages, these may have to be manufactured off site 
to think ahead to getting the services into the house, so get some lengths of pipe or ducting to take through the concrete.
1. Start Building Foundations by Marking Out a Level Datum Point

WHATS IS A DATUM POINT?
A datum point is a point of reference from which further measurements can be made. The point can be based on the finished floor level, an existing building or a benchmark.
First you will need a level datum point. If you are building an extension this is usually the finished floor level or damp-proof course (DPC) of the existing building. For new builds, this will be marked on the plan as a fixed point such as a manhole cover or a marker in the road or pavement.
The datum point is important: all your height measurements are relative to this point, so any errors could cause problems later on, particularly if there is a height restriction placed on the building.

Next, calculate how much material needs to be removed from the site to end up back at finished floor level once all the layers of flooring materials (insulation, concrete, screed, etc) have gone down. Time taken with a site level at this stage will make things easier later on when the digger may not be able to reach any areas that have not been dug deep enough.
3. Use String Lines to Mark Out Your Building Foundations

Start marking out for the walls. Set up timber hurdles at the end of each wall, out of the way of where the digger will need to be. These carry the string lines that represent the wall faces of your building. Where space is limited, use corner pins instead and set up the hurdles after the concrete is in.

Begin lining up your footings by referring to your datum point. When it comes to extensions, never assume an existing building is square; pick the side you need to be square to and set up a line, then square off that line.
The easiest way to do this is using Pythagorus’s theorem (the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square of the other two sides). If you measure the length of your first wall and then secure a tape measure at each end, by working out the length of the hypotenuse you can use both tapes to give you a third point exactly 90° to your first line.
Alternatively, most modern laser levels have a square function which does this for you.

Once you have two lines set up at 90°, all other measurements can be taken from this point, with all corners and junctions marked. A lot of digger drivers are quite happy for you to mark ‘centre of dig’ lines, but you may prefer to mark both sides of the trenches.
Check the width your walls and allow 150mm both sides, then use a string line as a guide to mark the trenches with marker paint.

Now you’re ready to start digging. Have your site level set to the depth you need to dig and check it often. Ultimately it is down to the building control inspector to decide how far down you need to go; they will inspect at this stage and advise.

Once Building Control has visited, you are ready to pour the footings. You should place depth pegs in the trenches to show you how deep to fill, but you may find that marking the sides of the trenches with marker paint also works well, with a final onceover with the site level and a concrete rake to get them spot on — the more accurate you can be with your levels the easier (and cheaper) the next stage will be.
Also make sure that ducts are installed for any pipes or cables that need to cross the trench below the concrete.

If your site is difficult to access, it may be worth considering a concrete pump. This can work out more cost-effective than a few bodies with barrows.
Keeping the Site Tidy When Building Foundations
Before you fire up the digger you’ll need to decide what’s going to happen to the soil. If it’s staying on site you may need to hire in a dumper so that it can be stored in a suitable place where it won’t interfere with the build.
Otherwise, you’ll have to organise lorries to take it to a tip. The turnaround time, or distance to the tip, will dictate how many lorries are needed to maintain continuity on the dig.
You will also need to decide whether you’ll be able to load the concrete directly into the trenches or whether a pump will be needed. If you do decide on a pump – always a good idea if more than three loads are anticipated – then it will need to be booked and the concrete suppliers advised so that their mix and turnaround time can be adjusted to facilitate a continuous pour.
Getting Lorries to Site
If the concrete is being directed from a lorry into the trench then you need to make sure that there is hardstanding and stable ground for it to park.
Most mixes can be ‘pulled’ around the trenches using rakes, but if the sides of the trenches are unstable this may cause collapses and unwanted contamination of the concrete. (Shuttering the trenches prior to pouring can aid in this instance.)
Lorries have extension ramps but these can usually only reach for around 4m at most. Unless the lorries can off-load at various convenient points around the building, then it’s best to use a pump.

Why House Foundations Fail
Nonporous backfill. Soils loaded with clay or organic matter hold water like a sponge, increasing the risk of foundation cracks when the soil freezes and expands.
Rushing the cure. Concrete must cure slowly to reach proper strength (usually 3,000 psi). Keep it damp for at least three days by wrapping it in plastic, misting with water, and other techniques.
Insufficient compacting. If the slab is poured over crushed stone that hasn’t been firmly tamped, it will likely settle or crack.
Interrupting the pour. A concrete form should be filled in one go. If you stop and come back the next day to finish the work, there will be a “cold joint” between the fresh concrete and yesterday’s work, which is likely to crack and leak.

Reasi: Reasi police lodged Nine case FIR’s & arrested 08 offenders with the seizure of 11 Vehicles involved in theft of minor minerals. In an incident of illegal mining at Tanda Seri Khad Reasi, case FIR no 27/2022 stands registered at Police Station Reasi and investigations initiated. During the course of investigations two dumpers and one tipper bearing registration numbers JK14E-7157, JK14H- 5657, JK08G-3805 seized in the case and drivers of the vehicles namely Ravi Kumar S/O Ram Chand R/O Village Moori Katra, Kishor Singh S/O Jagdev Singh R/O Jajjar Kotli & Satvir Singh S/O Rattan Chand R/O H No 93 w no 2 Jakhani-Udhampur arrested in the case. In another incident of economic crime of mining at Tawi Khad Pouni, case FIR no 05/2022 Police Station Pouni is lodged & investigation initiated. Vehicle trolly not registered yet bearing engine number 1025/5DF 14151 seized in the case and and owner of the vehicle namely Budhi Singh S/O Kirpa Ram R/O Gari Arnas Tehsil District Reasi arrested in the case. After getting reports of incidents of illegal mining from Ghayala Anji five cases were registered at Police Station Reasi. Case FIR nos 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36 of 2022 are registered at Police Station Reasi. During the course of investigations Vehicles-dumpers JK14H 9107, JK14H 9175, JK21A 2679, JK20A 7733 and JK21D 6601 were seized in the cases and offenders namely Davinder Singh S/O Mohinder Singh R/O Joghpur Vijaypur Samba, Kuldeep Kumar S/O Jattu Ram R/O Raya Vijaypur Samba, Vijay Kumar S/O Tej Ram R/O Gandala Udhampur and Kirpa Ram S/O Rattan Lal R/O Mali Udhampur are arrested in the instant case.
