Different Scents
This idea is sort of small and random, but if I get any more inspiration for other characters, I'll add it here!
Tumblr media
Ijin: fresh linen, the steel blade of knives, the rubbery smell of bandages, medical alcohol, sometimes the faint whiff of blood, freshly cut vegetables. He doesn’t wear cologne so he smells very fresh, but his scent is naturally intoxicating and he smells appealing without even trying. When you hug him you just want to stay in his arms and inhale his scent for as long as possible.
Tumblr media
Dayeon: flowery shampoo, subtle sugary perfume, sweet lip balm, spices from cooking, the warm heady scent of lit candles. When you catch her scent it's like a shot to the gut, it's so sweet and inviting. People are captivated when they smell her, they want to stay by her side forever.
Tumblr media
Grandpa Yu: cotton, apples, butterscotch candies, aftershave, glossy photographs, that scent of old cologne no one anyone wears anymore. He just smells really comforting and familiar, like someone safe.
Tumblr media
Dushik Cha: cigarette smoke, expensive cologne, scotch, hair gel, that metallic scent that comes from both his bat and blood, homemade food, the faint whiff of car grease.
Tumblr media
Major Kang: sandalwood, freshly baked bread, the fancy soaps Jiye bought for him, spicy cologne, the slightest hint of gingerbread. He smells very homey and when Ijin first hugged him, he was grasping the back of his shirt so hard it became wrinkled. It was the first time he realized that touch didn’t always hurt.
Tumblr media
Liam: gunpowder, sweat, cheap cologne, the faint whiff of cigarettes, coffee grounds, that dry scent that tells you he’s carrying money in his pockets. He's got a musky scent, but it's comforting all the same.
Tumblr media
Maya: jasmine shampoo, pine trees, leather, coconut lotion, the faint scent of smoke. She doesn't like perfume because it overwhelms her and hurts her nose, so she smells very natural.

One of my favourite things about Cha Dusik is how chill and kind he is. He isn't one of the many macho bastards with more pride than should be possible in the whole manhwa. Like this dude got his ass handed to him by a teenager, regretted his life for two seconds before he decided 'this kid is my favourite person now' and made sure to watch his back and protect the ppl Ijin cares about for no reason other than that he wanted to.
Plus, he's the last person you would expect to be this kind. Look at this shit!!
Tumblr media
Idk it just warms my heart every time I see him and his buddy help out Grandpa Yu, it's so sweet I feel like teeth are rotting.
Also, the fact that he hasn't even tried to look into Ijin's background despite knowing he was lying about being a normal high schooler. He teases him about it, has pretty much given him his motorcycle, invites him out to eat kimbap and ramen randomly because he knows that's what he likes. Ijin is practically his little brother/nephew at this point and I just know that if Ijin ever calls him Hyung, he would be so fucking touched.
Tumblr media
Murder uncle and nephew cause the Murder Bros™ was already taken by the numbers
Also, the amount of dad energy this man has in these panels is just ....

Someone wife this man up right now, he's perfect

Hometown Cha Cha Cha was a fucking wholesome ass show
With only the minimal requisite of drama, most of which they packed all into Episode 15… it was sad boi hours from start to finish in that ep (even the bit where I-jun finds out his parents are back together)
They had some nerve doing what they did to Gam-ri after a whole episode of sadness and no on-screen interactions between her and Du-shik before she dies… and that letter??? Affirming to Du-shik that he was always her family… THE SON FINALLY COMING HOME… major sad all around
I’m glad Du-shik could be freed of his past trauma and the air cleared… we didn’t see one of his big grins for at least 1 1/2 eps…
And everything between him and Hyejin was goddamn adorable and cheesy af and the show called them out for it XD
EDIT: lmao forgot about this idk what else to say, just know that I have 3 very specific Dushik-as-he-gazes-at-Hyejin gifs saved on my phone now

So many people say that Hometown Cha Cha Cha is cliché and it is cliché, but it is so much more than that.
I will sit down and say, that i have never seen a kdrama male lead apologize the way Dushik does. The necklace sequence? The way Hyejin because of her past insecurities sells her necklace, because she doesnt want to ruin what they have and Dushik saying that she got it all wrong and he doesnt have enough money to get her a necklace so he made her a jewelery box, is far away from clichè. They accept eachother for who they are, and even in the moments where they start fumbling one of them always gains balance and reaches out to the other. I always wanted that kind of love.
Kdramas have leads who wait for eachother a thousand years and transcend lifetimes.
But Hyejin and Dushik, love eachother through the cracks the world gave them. Because the world was so harsh, they found solace in one another.
Things that have tormented them for years dont fade away as soon as they fall in love, Hyejin is still insecure and Dushik is still fighting his trauma. But together? They hold out well.
Even if they didnt meet lifetimes ago, they are here now. Thats beautiful.

Okay so after watching episode 14, now we know that Hong Dushik and Hong Banjang (Chief Hong) are two completely different people. Chief Hong is a persona that he presented to others to hide the dark parts of himself. While Hong Dushik is the real him which he is desperately trying to hide with a mask.
According to Carl Jung, “the persona is obedience to expectations; it is the mask one wears to convince himself, and others, that he is not an altogether bad person. But one cannot go beyond the persona until he has incorporated into his character those darker character traits, this being the ‘shadow self’.”.
So when I rewatched the first episode and the ending scene where he introduces himself to Hyejin and he introduced himself not as Hong Dushik but as Chief Hong (his persona), it suddenly clicked on me that the scene has an even deeper meaning than just a simple introduction of his character.
There’s definitely a significance as to why Hyejin is still not calling him by his real name. Because she still does not know the real him yet, with emotional scars and all. The real Hong Dushik is still hidden behind a facade he created because of guilt. The only time she said his real name was when they exchanged their ‘I love yous’ because that’s where we can actually see a glimpse of the real Hong Dushik with his vulnerability and sincerity.
P.S Someone should really do a Hong Dushik edit with The Truth Untold.

Ok but major throuple vibes atm… Du-Shik is showing his jealousy and pettiness every time Seung-heon and Hye-Jin get caught up with each other but the moment he’s alone with Seung-Heon they’re all over each other…
Like they’re legit on a shopping date rn

dushik and his habit to talk informally to people regardless age and gender
he's been all alone in his life since he was young, and in fact, he hasn't had any guardians since middle school. not like other kids in gongjin who might only have one parent like juri or ijun, for dushik, there really wasn't any family left for him.
his mom, his dad, and even his one and only grandpa left when he's just a little boy. so he wouldn't know how to treat adults properly. he probably didn't know how to build relationships other than through theories.
and he may think that, if he wants to be treated like a family by the people around him, he should've talked informally, acted cute, helped their work, interfered with this and that; because that's just how others treat their family in common.
afterall, i think it's not really his defense mechanism at all; it's just the way he wants to be close to everyone, like how he wants a family by his side again.
in fact, hong dushik real personality is not as bubbly and as fussy as chief hong’s. but he, who is all alone in this world, might have thought that he had no choice but to try hard to get along and fit well with others too.

absolutely loved that dushik recognised that hyejin’s dad obviously liked seonghyeon more at first but he didnt try to be anything different just to win him over. the way dushik took her dad’s indifference to him in stride and was like ‘eh, whatever, im comfortable as i am and he cant expect me to change for anyone else’, and just went on with his day. loved that dushik was honest and said things as they were because he felt like it had to be said even if it was to hyejin’s dad. just dushik in general .
