This is Ensign Polina Andreievna Chekova. She’s a genderbent version of Pavel Chekov from Star Trek TOS.

A few things about her.

Usually goes by the diminutive form of her name, Polya.

Prefers to keep her hair short and wear a men’s uniform. But also enjoys more “girly” things as well.

A transporter accident strands her in the prime universe, where she meets Chekov. The two hit it off right away, and have a nice brother/sister dynamic.

Was raised by her grandparents in Russia.

No siblings, at least not from her own universe.

Autistic and ADHD.

As far as love interests go, she only likes girls. My headcanon is that Chekov (who I’ll be also referring to as Polya’s brother) likes both girls and guys and any other genders.

She and her brother have similar tastes in girls.

Thinks she knows how to flirt. She does not.

NAME: Isabelle “Bella” Chapel.

LOVE INTEREST: Pavel Chekov.

SUMMARY: Unlike her older sister, who had always been dedicated to the study of medicine, Bella’s passion lay in plants. Ever since she was a very young child, she was only truly happy when she was on her knees in the dirt, either planting new kinds of flowers or examining the leafs of various ferns and shrubs, trying to figure out how exactly they grew a particular way. It was this dedication to botany, to wanting to know everything about different kinds of plants and flowers and how their internal systems worked, along with her photographic memory and impressive intellect, that had allowed her to be put through Starfleet Academy and given a position on a starship by the time she was freshly eighteen. She isn’t exactly happy about her first posting being on the Enterprise, however, knowing that the reason for it is likely just so her sister can keep an eye on such a young and inexperienced officer, but she’s more than content to just hide in the ship’s lab and avoid Christine as much as possible - until she begins to connect with a fellow child prodigy posted on the Enterprise, and realizes that this placement might not be so bad after all.

A grumpy little plant-loving bisexual!

So, yeah, basically she’s one of the youngest people ever to graduate from Starfleet (including Chekov, of course), because she’s wicked smart, but then Starfleet assigns her to the Enterprise because her older sister works on it and they want to make sure there’s an eye on her to make sure she’s good enough to be a Starfleet science officer before they give her a proper placement. As you can imagine, she is very not happy about this.

She and Christine still have a really good sisterly relationship, though! They do hit kind of a rough patch with Bella avoiding her because she resents having to be monitored, but they make up and they go back to having a really loving dynamic.

Bella and Chekov are really cute, too!! They’re both snarky baby geniuses who love knowledge and chaos (and each other), and everyone on the Enterprise absolutely adores them together.

Bella also has a sisterly dynamic with Uhura; Bella really looks up to the other woman and how strong and fierce she is, and Uhura basically adopts her within seconds of meeting her and will do anything to protect her.

Being partners in crime with TOS Chekov would include:

•Captain Kirk lives in dread and fear when he sees you and Chekov conspiring or coming down the corridor together with matching smirks or perplexed expressions his stomach plummets to his boots and icy dread fills his veins.

•the two of you play all manner of tricks and pranks on people- but the person who falls for them most often is actually Scotty. It’s hilarious when the poor Chief Engineer is seen stomping away from a ‘broken’ conduit covered in green goop, or sporting inky rings around his eyes from his goggles.

•but every so often it goes too far- like when you both managed to cleverly program every drink dispenser to only give out vodka…

•and at that point, when it directly effects the whole ships performance, you both end up being summoned by Spock. He’s the only person who’s immune to the puppy eyes that the two of you can give- everyone else is deeply susceptible to them- but Spock can withstand the adorable gaze. And he’s very stern with his lectures, it’s enough to make the two of you behave for a short while, but it never completely works.

•occasionally there are drama nights onboard the Enterprise and you and Chekov always enter them, sometimes you’ll give dramatic monologues, other times you’ll indulge in some cultural dance, but actually what you’re both quite good at surprisingly is stand-up comedy. Between the two of you you can always get the crowd roaring with laughter.

•you’re drinking buddies! But he can absolutely drink you under the table. Dr McCoy has often (he’s fairly alarmed at how often) had to cure the both of you from killer hangovers. He doesn’t like to tell you both off, it’d make him a bit of a hypocrite considering how much he likes to have a drink, but even so he does keep a close eye on you both.

•you just hang out together all the time. You never get bored of each other, and you genuinely do have a big book of ideas that the two of you update and tick off as you do them.

•that said, sometimes you have to be reigned in. The two of you are a dynamic duo that has absolutely no sense of safety or concern for your own wellbeing’s, but that’s part of youth, so it’s up to everyone else to keep an eye on you both! But they love you anyway, even if you and Chekov do scare them sometimes.

Imagine Working In Engineering When Chekov Is Moved There

(This is kind of a preview for a longer story to come later~)

It was one thing for Scotty to up and leave you in charge of engineering.

Sure, everyone was feeling a little pissy. You even agreed with him, to a small degree. But you would have appreciated a goodbye note. 

Instead, you’d gotten a notice of promotion to Chief Engineer. At eighteen years old. 

This was going to be fun.

“Sir,” someone called to you, “warp core is functioning and stable.”

“Just keep the stupid missiles away from it,” you had your nose in your PADD, going over various suggested replacements sent to you from Commander Spock for the position of auxiliary chief engineer.

“What warp factor should we prepare for?”

“Send Lieutenant Sulu a notice and hopefully he’ll reply promptly enough that we’ll be fine.”

“The nacelles are overheating a little, sir-”

“What do you mean the nacelles are overheating?! We haven’t even moved!”

Now you understood why Scotty was always ready to fight someone.

“U-um...Lieutenant Y/L/N?” A small voice said from the antechamber. Your hair swished as you turned, surprised, to see sweet Pavel Chekov, looking nervous and out-of-place in a brand-new red shirt. “Keptin Kirk said that I was to report here as your auxiliary chief.”

Your first instinct was to snap at him for Captain Kirk’s impatience and snap-reassignment, especially of a boy as kind as Pavel.

Then it hit you.

Of course Jim would reassign Pavel Chekov to work so closely with you, that sneaky bastard.

“Alright, Mr. Chekov,” you took a breath. “Welcome to engineering.”

This was going to be interesting.

kirk when i come to the horrifying realisation that he is in fact the mouthpiece for the 60s white men that are writing him and is in fact played by william shatner aka episodes like miri and that one where he's a native american god bc what the fuck... i'll be watching having a good time and then oh fuck. thats shatner's face NOOOOO aside from that the random side characters that replace uhura or sulu or chekov when theyre not available who are you fucking imposters!!!

i barely have a singular ship the entire ship is well. a ship. theyre all dating each other the entire ship is polyamorous. my fave dynamics so far tho r; bones & spock obviously they r so funny. scotty & kirk i dont think any other combo on the enterprise is more enabling of each others specific brand of bullshit. uhura & everyone she is their BABYGIRL she is the most important person on that ship n everyone loves her as they should. the second favourite babygirl after the enterprise itself. scotty is the third fave btww. pavel & chekov they are like. daforge before there was daforge n kirk n that one klingon captain in the tribbles ep. why were they like that.

kirk wasnt that feminist like yes for the time but he still very much so was a man written in the 60s by other men and idk i feel like painting him as 100% feminist w/ that one "a crewman" gif is disingenious. like definitely what abrhams did was a crime to make him even weirded! but idk people always want to focus on the best and its like grabbing so many women by the shoulders like that so often makes me very uncomfortable watching dhdfhfvhvf

Hello~ I have a question about how friends would call Chekov: from your point of view, who do you think would call him by his last name, who would call him Pavel and who would call him "Pasha"? (thinking more about the AOS dynamics) 🤔 Also, I've recently discovered the meaning (Pavel) and I'm 🥺

Hi!

I think the most common way to call Pavel among friends is Pasha. It's the short version of this name, like Mike for Michael, and usually we call friends Pasha (sometimes Pashok or Pavlik). I can imagine him introducing himself like: My name is Pavel, but you can call me Pasha.

I think Uhura, Kirk and Sulu might call him Pasha :) For everyone else he can be Pavel or Chekov, because it's a very famous name and it is easy for people who don't speak Russian to say it. Except for Scotty - I feel like Simon Pegg's Scotty would have some nickname for him. And Bones probably will call him something else but his name :D

For Spock it's ensign Chekov most of the times, I think :D (maybe in private he calls him Pavel).

I really like that Pavel stands for "small, little", but I feel like they named it after Anton Chekhov, because his middle name (which is not the same middle name as in USA, it is actually name of the father) is Pavlovich ("son of Pavel"). But yeah, it suits him a lot :))

How do you feel about Star Trek TOS vs reboot films? Not the plot, that’s... a different topic, but the casting and characterization.

Yeah, I can go on for...a while about the plots of the first two films. Alrighty then, main crew.

Captain James T. Kirk as played by Chris Pine

Not my Captain.  This Kirk is what parodies have made him out to be. This is somebody who only understood the surface level of Kirk and thought Zap Brannigan was an accurate interpretation. The Captain Kirk I know respects women, listens to his officers, and would literally die for every single member of his crew.  I understand this is a different timeline or whatever, but it’s obvious from the first movie that they’re trying to get everyone back in their original place.  Chris Pine is fine with the character he is given, but it took me seeing him in Wonder Woman to finally understand his appeal.  Do not like.

Spock as played by Zachary Quinto

He did a fine job.  Spock is so prevalent in pop culture that you have to actively try to sabotage his characterization.  Quinto is a fine actor and he got a lot of nuances of Nimoy’s performance down.  I will say I don’t like how emotional he is in the first movie.  I understand he’s going through a hard time and he lost his planet, but even before then the appeal of watching Spock is seeing how his attachment to the Enterprise and it’s crew allows him to be more human.  I would have liked to have seen a clearer difference between the Spock at the start of the first film and the end.  Having him be more detached would do that.  Also, THE SPOCK I KNOW WOULD NEVER DATE A STUDENT, SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK ABRAMS????

Doctor Leonard McCoy as played by Karl Urban

Karl Urban does the greatest job interpreting McCoy and I will take no criticism.  It’s clear from every scene he’s in that he loves McCoy and adores DeForest Kelley.  My number one complaint is there is not nearly enough of him in the first two films.  He finally, finally gets his time to shine in Star Trek: Beyond, and we get to actually see him and Spock work off each other which was always my favorite dynamic in the show.  McCoy is part of the trio for a reason, and it pains me that we didn’t get more of the trio dynamic in the films.  No complaints from me about his interpretation, McCoy is the best in every universe.

Lt. Nyota Uhura as played by Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana is so good, I wished Hollywood would give her more to do.  Her Uhura is not as warm as her Original Trilogy counterpart, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  We can see she’s ambitious and doesn’t take bullshit, which is an interpretation I can vibe with.  Again though, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why this same ambitious, intelligent young woman would date her teacher.  Serious, WHAT THE FUCK ABRAMS??? They never develop the relationship that far, and it feels almost like an excuse to give her something to do rather than expand on her character or Spock’s. If anything, it undermines both characters and especially Uhura. Basically, I like this interpretation in theory, but in practice it didn’t work until Star Trek: Beyond.

Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott as played by Simon Pegg

I will watch Simon Pegg is basically anything and that is a fact. I like his Scotty and get a lot of enjoyment from him as a character.  My one gripe is he’s a bit too much of a joke. While Scotty was certainly funny in the show, he wasn’t really the butt of the joke.  The joke was more about just how much he loved the Enterprise, and we don’t really see that in the films. I also would have liked to have seen more of his dedication to the crew as a whole. He was one of the most vocally loyal to it and Kirk specifically.  There wasn’t a lot of that in the movies at all, so I can’t put it all on Scotty, but it’s the most pronounced with his character.  Good Simon Pegg performance, not great character interpretation.

Lt. Hikaru Sulu

Love it, no complaints. John Cho fought hard to get this role and his dedication shows.  He’s a bit more straight laced than the show, but that’s not a bad thing.  We still get his love of sword and dry wit, so wins all around.  I would have liked to see more of his plants though, but that may just be me.

Ensign Pavel Chekov

RIP Anton Yelchin.  I cannot emphasis what a talent we lost with his death. I love the enthusiasm he brings to Chekov. Every scene he’s in is just fantastic. I would have liked more Russian jokes, but understandable that they cut them. Nothing to complain about here.
