Why I Think The Royal Magic Wand Took The Form That It Did For Some Of The Past Rulers Of Mewni

Ok. Here I’ll be going over my thoughts on why the Royal Magic Wand took the form that it did for some of the past rulers of Mewni. As shown in the episode ‘Star Comes To Earth’, the Royal Magic Wand takes a different form depending on who is wielding it. So, I’ll be going over some of the rulers of Mewni and how each of their version of the Royal Magic Wand corresponds to each of them. Also, Spoiler Alert for the Star VS The Forces Of Evil TV series and the Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.

I think that the reason why Queen Skywynne’s version of the Royal Magic Wand had a clock on it is pretty self-explanatory. After all, as shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Queen Skywynne had quite a few spells that manipulate time. And as also shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Queen Skywynne saw time as an infinite paradox when she first grabbed the Royal Magic Wand. So, that probably also caused it to have a clock motif. Queen Skywynne’s version of the Royal Magic Wand also had black onyx crystal that made up the hands on its clock and black onyx crystal also partly powers Queen Skywynne’s version of the Royal Magic Wand as shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter. I heard that the color black is sometimes associated with regeneration and new beginnings which makes it fitting for Queen Skywynne since, as stated in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter, she was the first queen to write in the new Magic Book Of Spells since the old one was also destroyed in a fire and, despite the loss of almost all the knowledge of magic from her ancestors, created some really powerful spells like the Infuriating Repeater spell which helped construct a new and better version of Butterfly Castle after the old version was destroyed in said fire. I think that’s pretty much regeneration from the destruction of almost all the knowledge from Queen Skywynne’s ancestors and the destruction of the old version of Butterfly Castle. And it marked a new beginning for the Butterfly family just like how the hands on a clock mark the time of the day. Queen Skywynne persevered through that fearful and dark time which makes it fitting that black onyx crystal helps to power her wand since I heard that black onyx crystal is associated with overcoming overwhelming fears and worries. As shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter, Queen Skywynne’s wand also had ringing bells on it that make a sound that could only be heard by dogs, ferrets and pig-goats. I think that’s fitting since, as shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter, Skywynne is loyal to her kingdom just like how a dog is loyal to their owner, is intelligent just like a ferret and has an immense desire to learn more about magic spells just like how a pig-goat, as shown in the Moon The Undaunted chapter, has an immense desire for food. And I think the ringing bells on top of the clock on Queen Skywynne’s wand are also fitting because just like how an alarm clock rings to signal a person to wake up, the kingdom of Mewni rang its bell to signal Queen Skywynne to stay awake to serve it and Skywynne did just that by not following her lazy mother’s example as shown in the Skywynne Queen Of Hours chapter.

As shown in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Jushtin’s version of the Royal Magic Wand is a pink and white striped cane with a living alligator head and a heart with wings on it. And as also shown in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter, Jushtin was pretty upbeat. I think that the pink and white striped cane part of Jushtin’s wand was a nod to how upbeat Jushtin was. After all, the pink and white striped cane does kinda look like a candy cane and candy canes seem to convey cheerfulness and optimism. As for the living alligator head, I think that came from the fact that Jushtin is, as shown in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter, very loyal to his family and to his kingdom. After all, as stated in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter, the living alligator head on Jushtin’s wand never bites their Jushtin since he’s their ‘dad’ and they love him. And I think the heart with wings came from Jushtin’s love for the people around him. After all, as shown in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter, Jushtin loved his mother Skywynne, his math tutor and his “Boy-Prince Cru”.

As shown in the Solaria The Monster Carver chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Solaria’s version of the Royal Magic Wand is a sword that harnesses aggression. I think the reason for that is so obvious that I don’t think it has to be explained that much. After all, as shown in the Solaria The Monster Carver chapter, Solaria seems to love fighting and is also extremely aggressive to the point of taking cruel enjoyment out of the deaths of monsters.

As shown in the Eclipsa The Queen Of Darkness chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Queen Eclipsa’s version of the Royal Magic Wand is an umbrella. I think the reason why that is the case is because of how Eclipsa coped with her trauma. As shown in the episode ‘Moon The Undaunted’, Eclipsa was frozen in a crystal for generations. Also, as shown in the episode ‘Butterfly Trap’, Eclipsa was labeled as evil for marrying a monster named Globgor and Eclipsa’s daughter Meteora was taken away from her after she was frozen in that crystal. So, Eclipsa has suffered quite a lot over the course of her life. But, despite that, Eclipsa seems pretty calm and optimistic. For example, as shown in the episode ‘Stranger Danger’, Eclipsa seemed pretty calm despite everything that she’s been through. Picture Eclipsa’s trauma as a rainstorm and Eclipsa’s rather surprising ability to cope with it as an umbrella. The proverbial umbrella that is Eclipsa’s ability to cope with her trauma helped to at least more or less persevere through the proverbial rainstorm that is her trauma. So, I think that Eclipsa’s wand taking the form of an umbrella symbolized her ability to cope with her trauma.

As shown in Crescenta The Eager chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Queen Crescenta has quite an overinflated ego and, if her spells are any indication, seemed to have a screw loose. That makes it quite ironic that Crescenta’s version of the Royal Magic Wand has 3 hearts on it. One heart made of ruby. One heart with a ribbon wrapped around it. And one heart right above the crystal heart. In the Crescenta The Eager chapter, Crescenta claimed that a heart on her wand meant that she had a big heart and truly wanted to help her kingdom. But given that, as also shown in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, Crescenta not only had an oversized ego but also came up with the Monster Arm spell and a spell to turn her sister into a wolf, I doubt that’s the case. So, I think those 3 hearts on Crescenta’s wand mean something else. Here’s a metaphor to explain what I think the ruby heart means. Crescenta had a heart frozen in ruby. As everyone knows, a frozen heart is a metaphor used to describe someone who is apathetic and detached from the people around them. And like I pointed out, Crescenta came up with spells like the Monster Arm spell and a spell to turn her sister into a wolf. So, in that regard, Crescenta definitely has a frozen heart. As for the part about Crescenta’s heart being frozen in ruby, I think that reflects Crescenta’s ego and pride. After all, just like how a ruby can gleam in the light, Crescenta likes to gleam in the spotlight. There’s also something else I noticed about the crystal heart on Crescenta’s wand. It’s on a purple heart and around that, an outline of a yellow heart. I heard that the color purple is associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power and ambition which corresponds well with Crescenta’s personality since, as shown in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, she had an ambitious desire to become queen. I also heard that the color yellow is associated with joy and happiness which corresponds disturbingly well with how Crescenta, as also shown in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, used a spell on herself to remove all negativity from her mind in order to stay optimistic and cheerful. In this regard, I also think it’s fitting that the outline of the yellow heart is around the purple heart since, as shown in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, the reason why Crescenta used that spell on herself to remove all the negativity from her mind and stay cheerful was in order to help prepare herself for her royal duties and thus fulfill her ambitions as a royal. That means that Crescenta’s desire to be happy and cheerful was a byproduct of her ambitions as a royal. And I think the reason why the ruby heart is in the center of the purple heart and the yellow heart is because the crystal heart, as I explained earlier, reflects Crescenta’s desire to be in the spotlight which is right in the center of and also what sparked Crescenta’s ambitions as a royal that the purple heart reflects which then sparked Crescenta’s desire to be happy and cheerful that the yellow heart reflects. Also, there’s another heart right above the ruby heart, the purple heart and the yellow heart. I think that heart reflects how much Crescenta puts her heart into her exploits in order to fulfill her desires and ambitions. After all, as stated in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, while Crescenta does indeed have an overinflated ego, she at least works hard to get to where she is partly because she did join the Junior Castle Guard in order to keep watch over the castle during the night. There’s also one more heart with a ribbon-like bow right below the ruby heart, the purple heart and the yellow heart. I think that heart with the ribbon-like bow around it reflects Crescenta’s love for her status. Ironically, I also think that’s why there are swan feathers attached to the heart with the ribbon-like bow. I heard that swan feathers are sometimes considered a warning that something is out of balance. I think that’s fitting because, while status and power are good and all, they can’t love a person back.

As shown in the Comet The Chef chapter of the Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Comet loved cooking and making food. I think that makes it fitting that Queen Comet’s wand crystal was, as stated in the Comet The Chef chapter, made of a type of quartz called Baker’s Quartz since I heard that quartz is a great countertop material for those who like to cook and bake. I think Comet loving to cook and make food also makes it fitting that her wand handle, as also stated in the Comet The Chef chapter, was a rolling dowel which is a tool for making food. And as stated in the Comet The Chef chapter, Comet’s wand also had hearts and angel-like wings on it. I think that represents how Comet, as shown in the Comet The Chef chapter, was very kind to the point that she wanted to make peace with all of monster kind. That’s very impressive considering the fact that, as far as recorded Mewni history is concerned, Comet was the only royal besides Queen Eclipsa and Star Butterfly who wanted to do so.

As shown in the Moon The Undaunted chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Queen Moon used to be pretty optimistic and happy but then was deeply traumatized by the death of her mother. And as also shown in the Moon The Undaunted chapter, the crystal on Moon’s wand was heart-shaped and a type of crystal from the Crystal Dimension that was almost indestructible. I think that’s fitting since Moon’s heart used to be full of happiness and optimism before then being hardened by the death of her mother. I think that the fact that it was an almost indestructible type of crystal represented just how hardened Moon’s heart was. After all, Moon’s heart was hardened to the point that, as shown in the episode ‘Mr. Candle Cares’, when Star asked Moon: “Are you happy?”, Moon responded with: “Happy? What difference does that make?”. And as stated in the Moon The Undaunted chapter, Moon’s wand handle was made of Snakewood, a material that’s found in the Neverzone, a region in Dimension X-103. And as shown in the episode ‘Running With Scissors’, time in Dimension X-103 flows differently to the point that 16 years in Dimension X-103 and, by extension, the Neverzone equals 8 minutes on Earth which caused Marco Diaz to become an adult while he was there whereas all of his friends on Earth were still teenagers. I think this is a nod to how Moon, as shown in the episode ‘Moon The Undaunted’, was forced to, at least metaphorically, grow up as if she were an adult despite the fact that she was still a teenager at the time.

As shown in the Star The Underestimated chapter of Star VS The Forces Of Evil: The Magic Book Of Spells, Star’s version of the Royal Magic Wand has what seems to be one star on top of another one with 5 hearts around it. And as shown in the episode ‘Star Comes To Earth’, Star is incredibly optimistic and is an extremely passionate person. So, I think the star represents Star’s optimism since, as probably knows, looking to the stars is sometimes associated with feeling hope and the 5 hearts represent Star’s passion since being passionate about something means, metaphorically speaking, pouring your heart into it. I think this might also explain why Star can be so chaotic sometimes which was something that was demonstrated in the episode ‘Star VS. Echo Creek’ where Star got into a sugar rush and accidentally destroyed a police car. After all, having too much of the hopes and dreams of an optimist combined with too much of the heart and drive of a passionate person could cause someone to have so much heart and drive to achieve their hopes and dreams that they might take things too far. There’s also a butterfly with a couple of angel-like wings right next to it. I heard that butterflies symbolize change and transformation. So, I think that represents how Star changed when it came to her view of monster-kind. After all, as shown in the episode ‘Lobster Claws’, Star used to think that monsters were nothing but evil but as shown in the episode ‘Mewnipendence Day’, Star’s view on monsters changed to the point that she let Buff-Frog go and later gave him some corn. And I think the angel-like wings represent the kindness Star showed as a result. Also, I think that Star’s wand crystal being yellow represents Star’s optimism. As I said earlier, Star is pretty optimistic and as I also said earlier, I heard that the color yellow is sometimes associated with happiness.

Thinking back on it, I LOVE the implications of a magical contract in Star Vs! In her research, Eclipsa realized that her darkest, most unforgivable spell was something she had no right or power to perform alone. It goes against all laws of mortality and immortality, calling from the magic of the land itself and all its past grudges and ghosts. In short, it gives the user power over life and death, something Eclipsa, in all her secrets, would never agree to without someone else's input and permission.

So, what do you think is the story behind the darkest spell?

It’s actually pretty simple in terms of my AU’s story and timeline

Eclipsa was in a state of complete despair and agony after the death of her mother. Sure, Solaria was awful and their relationship was really rocky to say the least of it, but that’s still her mother. Not to mention a horrible relationship with a man she didn’t love that was put in place by her late mother. She was in such a state of grief that she was prone to suggestion and irrational thought.

Globgor had been telling her all of these awful things about the Septarians and updating her on the conditions of the war. Globgor decidedly really despises the Septarians and the Kardonas specifically (aka Seth and Zarina) and his biases really informed her perspective (despite her ((now dwindling)) friendship with Toffee)

But what really sent her over the edge was two years later when she it was finally revealed to her that Seth was the one who killed her mother and the descriptions she received about the exact means of execution… which I don’t know if I want to reveal the graphic and gorey details of… let’s just say he found out what she had written about the Septarians in her chapter…

Anyways, the constant pain and grief she was experiencing sent her over the edge and The Darkest Spell was her retaliation against the Septarians for Seth’s actions. She tested it on a few Septarian warriors, but once Seth was informed, Zarina went out to confront the Queen on the battlefield herself. That’s when Eclipsa blew off her arm and sent the whole army retreating. Thankfully no other Mewmans or other types of monsters were present, keeping the illusion of indestructibility and “immortality” alive and well in the minds of Mewmans and Monsters alike.

Eclipsa did regret making the spell, but never really voiced that to anyone (or at least hasn’t yet). She knows how drastic it was and that it was made when she was in a horrible headspace and hates it for that reason alone. The only reason she gave Moon the spell with the contract was admittedly for her own freedom to reunite with her family.

Eclipsa being in a state of turmoil and agony doesn’t excuse the making of the spell, but it at least explains it.

Also fun fact Seth never allowed Zarina to go anywhere and especially outside of Septarsis without a personal bodyguard so he wouldn’t lose her too.

Found out that the Magic Book of Spells has a pdf available on scribd. An account is needed to download the file but it is free to read. The screenshots also include translations to the Low-Mewmian. Not everything is in the file (ex: Jushtin’s chapter is missing) but there is a decent amount there.

Rayne Ames x Ancient Magic User Reader

For a long time, people have always believed that you were weak. Despite hours and hours of studying magic and practicing casting spells, you were never any good at it. What’s even more strange is that you were born a double liner. Many people believed you were a fake, but it was just that you were terrible with magic, or so you thought. Your parents were Magic historians, their job was to discover and study ancient magic ruins and the like. One day, your parents brought you to a ruin thinking it would be good for you. How right they were.

As they began to slowly explore and document the new ruins they found, you were bored and decided to roam around. As you walked through the ruins of what was believed to be a temple, you came across a room deeper within. The outside of the temple had deteriorated and crumbled from age but the deeper in you went, the less damage there was. Due to your parent’s job, you understood ancient language and had a basic understanding of various ancient alphabets. Looking at the inscriptions surrounding the door, you took a moment to study them, translating what they said out loud. Suddenly the inscriptions lit up, the surrounding inscriptions and decals along the walls began to glow as the glowing spread throughout the temple’s remains.

The door to the room slowly opened and you walked inside. The room was filled with various things, jars, pots, strange artifacts, it smelled strongly of dust, but lying on what seemed to be a table was an old book. It was thick, the cover was made of leather, giving it a brown color. Being careful not to damage it, you slowly and gently opened it. You began to inspect the pages, seeing how much damage the book had. The book was in surprisingly good condition considering how long it must have been left here. You were looking at one of the pages when you accidentally cut your finger on the edge as you went to turn it. Your blood dropped onto the book, as the pages slowly soaked in your blood, the book began to shake. Your parents had walked in at that moment and saw the book begin to levitate as the things in the room began to shake as well.

Terrified, you asked your parents what was going on, only for them to smile at you. Your parents began to study the room and had discovered that an ancient powerful mage had lived in this temple. This book had belonged to them and was full of all their spells and wisdom. To prevent just anyone from being able to access the book, the mage cast a powerful protective spell that kept the room’s contents safe from outside forces and helped preserve what laid inside. The only way to undo the spell was for someone with the proper latent abilities to speak the inscription surrounding the door. Turns out, you suck at modern magic, but you’re beyond skilled at ancient magic. Seeing as no one else was able to read or open the book, your parents let you keep it. You began to study and decipher what text was in the book.

Years later, you had become quite gifted in the ancient arts. You had a thirst for knowledge and thus, when you were accepted into Easton, you were sorted into Orca dorm. Most people ridiculed you in the beginning since you sucked at basic spells, your potions were all messed up and either had the wrong effects or were absolute garbage. You couldn’t even ride a broom. During your first year at Easton, you finally finished crafting your own wand, according the the book’s instructions. Your wand looked somewhat like an umbrella with a large eye like crystal at the top of it. When opened, the umbrella part would glow and lift you off the ground allowing you to fly to wherever you wanted.

There were a few people who overlooked your initial impression, one of those being Magarette Macaron. Although people believed you to be weak and suck at magic, you did enjoy playing the guitar and bass, which Margarette found out. Due to both of you being rather peculiar individuals, you got along rather well. Often times, when you weren’t studying, you’d be with Margarette jamming out together. Even though you were more of a rock and roll compared to Margarette’s classical style, you both got along. Margarette would help you out in class as you struggled to weave ancient magic into modern spells. The very first time you tried to mix the two in class was a disaster.

You had been in class sitting at your desk with Margarette next to you as you guys were studying a protection spell. The spell was supposed to create a small barrier that weak spells couldn’t pass through. You had brought your book and had searched through it for a similar spell. You had tried to alter the ancient spell to mimic the modern one, only for it to literally blow up in your face and everyone else’s while sending you flying into the wall at the back of the classroom. By trying to combine the two magics, the spell backfired and didn’t work causing the explosion. When Wahlberg had discussed what happened with you, he decided it would be better for everyone if you stuck to using only ancient magic and had the lessons tailored to you.

After that day, whenever you had a class, the teachers would notify you and tell you what you would be doing a day or two before the class. This way you could come prepared with an ancient spell, technique, potion or whatever that would be equivalent to what the other students were learning. With these new accommodations, you were quickly rising and becoming one of the strongest students in the school. It might take you a bit longer to reach the same results as your peers, but there’s no doubt that you are a force to be reckoned with. It was during your second year at Easton that you officially met Rayne Ames.

During the Divine Visionary exam, you easily took the lead, with your abundance of powerful ancient spells, the competition was merely child’s play. Not only were your spells powerful, but you had an array of different types of spells that you could use as opposed to people’s normal one type. It didn’t matter how fearsome your opponents were, or how long the battles took, the moment you saw a weakness however slight, you attacked with full force. Like a dam, you turned the slightest trickle from the most minuscule crack, into a raging current from a gaping hole. Whether it was a weakness in magical ability, emotional or mental weakness, or even physical, any weakness you saw, you took advantage of. It was during the final test that you were facing off against Rayne in battle.

No matter how many partisans Rayne threw at you, you either dodged, redirected or countered. You would cast spatial warping spells, opening portals that swallowed up the partisans and sent them back at him, cast barrier spells that stopped the partisans, or cast a counter spell that absorbed and redirected the attack back at the opponent twice as strong. In the end, it was a draw. Neither of you were defeated by the other, but neither had too great of an advantage over the other. Although Rayne kept you on the defensive and prevented you from taking an offensive stance with his endless attacks, you prevented Rayne from dealing any damage to you and didn’t have a scratch on you. It was decided that you both would be named Divine Visionary since neither of you were able to defeat the other and you both became well acquainted.

After becoming a Divine visionary, you and Rayne were constantly working together on and off. Often finding the other during your missions or coming into contact with the other in some kind of way. You both became rather good friends and often discussed work related things together over tea or something. You got to meet Raynes rabbits and you ended up building what was basically a giant play structure for them that included slides, tunnels and other structures. You’d often bake healthy treats for the rabbits and feed them to them. You even helped Rayne make individual stockings filled with toys and treats for each rabbit during the holidays. The rabbits grew to love you and became comfortable enough to run and greet you every time they saw you. You and Rayne eventually became a couple and moved in together after graduation, making sure that the house had room for both of you and your furry children.

Seth is not the Villain

A major theme of Star vs. the Forces of Evil is its anti-colonial and anti-racist message, something which, in discussions of the ways the show fails, is often brushed aside in favor of criticizing the shipping and put in the same category of "unimportant subplot that gets in the way of what we, the viewers, actually care about". I disagree, as I believe that the story Star vs. was trying to tell, if told well, would have been a very important one to get out there, especially to the target audience of children seven and up. 

Unfortunately, the show's anti-racist message fails in ways that aren't deeply discussed in mainstream criticism, and that go largely unexamined by the fandom. One way this message fails is in how the franchise depicts the Septarian. 

One message of the show is that the way mewmens view monsters--as violent, dangerous scoundrels that only exist to hurt the supposedly innocent mewmens--is false. In reality, monsters just want to live their lives in peace, and most of the crime and violence mewmens experience at monster hands the result of either desperation or miscommunication.

This would be all well and good, but unfortunately, this show is not consistent with this message.

Enter the septarians- a race of anthropomorphic and borderline immortal lizard men who seem to be everything that the show expects us to believe other monsters aren't. Of the named septarian characters in the show, all three are antagonists, and only one, Rasticore, gets anything resembling sympathy; the other two, Toffee and Seth, are treated as purely, uncomplicatedly evil, with no redeeming qualities. Toffee's actions may have been acknowledged as the right thing to do, but the show otherwise fails to give any acknowledgement that he could possibly be in the right; he is depicted as cunning, manipulative, and cruel; he makes Ludo into a puppet, he murders Comet for reasons the show fails to elaborate on, he is brutally and graphically melted alive onscreen, and no one morns for him once he dies. While the show does, eventually, come around to his views on magic, it is clear that the man himself is still viewed as wholly undeserving of sympathy. Looking at The Magic Book of Spells, this doesn't get much better. 

Solaria introduces us to the septarians, but we get our first trustworthy glimpse at who they are in Eclipsa's chapter, where former cannibal warlord Globgor puts them among monsters who " feel they are superior to the Mewmens and want nothing but the destruction of [their] people and [their] magic", and describes them as "particularly cunning and full of righteous indignation" with "no ability to forgive or forget, carrying the grudges of their forefathers as if they were their own". Now, while Seth pops up here and there throughout the book, it's hard to say how accurate the words of Globgor and Eclipsa are through those appearances, because his actions are described in the vaguest of terms; he loses an all but stated to be rigged election to Pemma during Cresenta's time, leads a rebel faction during Estrella's, and fails to respond to Comet's invitation.

Now, it isn't hard to see that a lot of this is a way to communicate Toffee's ideology and goals to the audience without having him just state them, as Comet notes during her chapter that Seth's views are popular amongst younger septarians, a category which Toffee most certainly falls into. Given that, it is reasonable to believe readers of the Magic Book of Spells are meant to assume that Toffee considers septarians to be superior, that he wants the destruction of mewmens, that he has no ability to forgive or forget and is acting on the grudges of his forefathers, not because he himself ever expresses any of this, but because he is a septarian and that is what we are told septarians are like.

And that poses a problem for the show's core message. 

The message of the show is that monsters aren't a violent, murderous, mewmen-hating monolith, that the actions of people like Ludo and Meteora don't represent the majority, and yet when it comes to septarians we are expected to throw that message away.

In order to follow canon as it is intended, you must fail to absorb one of the show's core themes. And, sadly, many people have. Many fanworks parrot the same stance on septarians that canon gives us, holding within them both the idea that monsters are in truth peaceful and kind, that depictions of them as violent and cruel are lies, while simultaneously accepting wholeheartedly that this one subset of monsters are violent and cruel because that is what the show tells us. 

Thinking critically about media, especially media for kids, is important, and a part of that is being able to tell not just that a story has failed, but how. Many people know full well that Star vs. falls short of it's potential, but some common criticisms and rewrite ideas reveal that these fans don't truly get it, with countless critics and authors suggesting that Seth should have taken Mina's role in the last season or casting him as the villain in their fanworks. And, the thing is? We don't have to do that. We don't have to criticize canon only to double down on the most insidious of its mistakes. Just because the show treats septarians as everything it says other monsters are not doesn't mean we have to believe it. We don't have to accept that Toffee is worse than Mina, or that Seth is as bad as Solaria. We don't have to cast Septarsis as the villain in our fanworks. We can take the lessons Star vs. attempted to teach but failed to live up to and stick by them stronger than the show ever did.

My Star VS The Forces Of Evil Spell Combos

Ok. Here I’ll be going over my Star VS The Forces Of Evil spell combos. As shown in the Solaria The Monster Carver chapter of The Magic Book Of Spells, combining spells is able to be done since Queen Solaria was able to combine 3 different spells to turn people into Solarian Warriors. So, it’s possible to combine other spells from the past rulers of Mewni too. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.

First off, here’s a combination between Queen Skywynne’s Infuriating Repeater spell and her granddaughter Queen Eclipsa’s All-Seeing Eye spell. As stated in the Skywynne The Queen Of Hours chapter, the Infuriating Repeater spell has the power to reverse time and, as shown in the episode ‘Bon Bon The Birthday Clown’, the All-Seeing Eye spell has the power to allow someone to spy on anyone no matter where they are. So, I think that these 2 spells combined together would make a spell that can see anything that happened in the past. I think a spell like that can be very useful. And I also think it can be used to see into the past and find out about all the spells the queens before Queen Skywynne came up with.

Next, here’s a combination between Queen Festivia’s Host-Me spell and her daughter Queen Crescenta’s Levitato spell. As stated in the Festivia The Fun chapter, the Host-Me spell gives a person a lot of energy and, as stated in the Crescenta The Eager chapter, the Levitato spell levitates things and moves them around. I think that when those 2 spells are combined, they would make a spell that gives a person super speed. After all, speed is all about energy and movement. And, as already pointed out, the Host-Me spell gives a person a lot of energy and the Levitato spell moves things around.

Here’s a combination between Queen Skywynne’s Warnicorn Stampede spell and her son Prince Jushtin’s Wings spell. As shown in the episode ‘By The Book’, the Warnicorn Stampede spell is, as the name implies, a spell that summons a stampede of warnicorns that will help take down the opponent. And, as stated in the Jushtin The Uncalculated chapter, the Wings spell is a spell that gives a horse wings. So, I think that when those 2 spells are combined, it would summon a stampede of warnicorns who have wings. After all, since warnicorns are pretty much horses, the Wings spell might work on them too. Also, a stampede of warnicorns with wings would not only be able to take down enemies on the ground but also enemies in the sky as well.

Here’s a combination between Queen Comet’s Nightshade Disarm spell and Queen Moon’s Wand Whip spell. As stated in the Comet The Chef chapter, the Nightshade Disarm spell can disarm opponents. And, as shown in the Moon The Undaunted chapter, the Wand Whip spell has the power to change the Royal Magic Wand itself and turn it into a magical whip. So, when those 2 spells are combined, they might not only disarm the opponent but also take their weapon sorta like lassoing it like a whip and absorb it into the Royal Magic Wand. And once the weapon is absorbed, the Royal Magic Wand will turn into a magical version of that weapon.

Duchess Recluza Spiderbite’s design for the Septarsis-Dragonfly AU!!

Jushtin is my absolute FAVORITE Butterfly mentioned in the book of Spells (besides Eclipsa, who is my second favorite character in the show). I love him an absolutely insane amount, and I’ve got a lot of lore relating to him (more importantly, what comes after him). His wife, Duchess Recluza, is an often underutilized asset to his character who I’ve grown to absolutely adore.

I’ve had her base design for a while, but I didn’t digitalize her design until yesterday! And I figured I’d share it with you guys!

Her outfit is a placeholder! I’m planning on giving her a better outfit in the future, but this’ll suffice for now!

You and Lucifer were Currently hanging out in your usually spot below an apple tree, Lucifer was reading a book and petting Keekee. Something he does so often when you guys hang together.

As for you, you were currently hanging upside from the apple tree and thinking was a good thing to do on this fine afternoon. Not gonna lie you were bored, to the point you would learn more spells from the family spell book.

Then you remembered

You were currently getting snacks for both of you and Lucifer, come on apple all the time and your craving some chocolate. Do they have Snookers on earth? No they don't,

maybe a Mewni thing? But SNOOKERS!

You then read about festival that's gonna be held at night in a poster outside of a shop...

You suddenly jumped out from the tree,which nearly gave poor Lucifer and Keekee a heart attack,you gave them a nervous smile.

"i just remembered there's a festival in this Village later , we should go" you suggested, while Keekee looked intrigued, Lucifer froze and debated to join.

"I don't know..."

You noticed this and nudge Lucifer shoulders" hey come on it will be fun...and it's my first festival ever!"you said and he looked at you with a raised eyebrow.

"first?"

"yeah,i never been to festival before" it's true though you been to one,you were always cooped up inside the Castle for protection, monsters roam around a lot so as a Princess of Mewni you and Eclipsa need to protected.

"aren't you like in your early 20s, and you still couldn't go?" He pointed out .

"I'm a busy lady"Busy as in studying magic with Glossaryck , because you late be taught, unlike Eclipsa,she was taught when she was Fourteen until she became Queen. You were taught later on...

"please Luci"Lucifer wanted to agree,but some of people here have Guardian angels and he was doomed if he was caught, you see he was forbidden to even go to earth. He only break those rules for you...

"come on Luci"you gave him puppy dog eyes he couldn't resist.

He finally agreed, you jump up and down not notice the root Of the tree and you stumbled on it , falling on top of Lucifer.

You felt his chest under you and his hot breath on your face ,you looked at his eyes.You two looked at each other as if time stopped and nothing was around you two .

You felt fireworks as held you...

Then the moment was suddenly interrupted by a Meow and saw your Beloved companion in her little earth form.

You the realized you were on top of Lucifer,you stood up quickly , feeling the heat of your face spread .

"c-c-come o-on we s-should go!"you stuttered and ran away quickly as Keekee followed.

Lucifer stood there stunned... also blushing

You walked through the sea people with Lucifer in the festival. You were having the best night of your life trying different foods from different stalls. Keekee was also happy being fed .

As for Lucifer he looked like he was hiding for someone ? He wore a cloak and the hood was on, he was being cautious around other people...

Does he not like going outside in the crowd?

Maybe you should have listened to him not go to the Festival?

Maybe the he didn't agreed at first is because he's not good with crowds?

Then suddenly you got an idea.

"Keekee, can you watch Lucifer for a while?i gonna do something okay?"Keekee was hesitant at first. She was made to protect you at all cost,that why she neve leaves your side...

"oh come on Keekee it'll be quick,and if anything happens I'll shout" Keekee still feels the need to go with you,but she sense a bound between you and the King of Hell. Ofcourse Keekee knew...

She felt the energy radiating from him since day one.But some reason she didn't find him a danger to her wielder....

At the end she agreed...

Lucifer knows he fucked, Ultimately fucked,he sense angelic auras everywhere. He may have hid his demonic aura but he knew one slip up they'd find him and report back to heaven.

But he couldn't say no to you...

He saw how your eye's sparkle at every stall and every games in the festival.

He suddenly froze, a old man walks pass by him and he saw a guardian angel floating by his side.

He screwed...

But some reason he wasn't seen...

He felt something soft brush his legs and looked down to see a cat with cat with a scar on the left eye...

He looked around and started to panic , until Keekee nudge his leg. She pointed with her paw to a direction and he followed.

She began to guide Lucifer to your whereabouts.

Until they saw you talking to a vendor of...

He walked up to you ,you smile when you saw him.

"surprise!" You hand him a lantern.

"what this?"he asked

"a lantern"

"yeah,but?"

"just follow me " you suddenly grabbed his hand and walked to a cliff in a fast pace.

Your long red hair flowed through the air as your Turquoise eyes sparkle.

"let's lit this Lanterns up" you told him and he only nodded.

"i saw you feeling uncomfortable earlier so hopefully this lantern can help?it always makes me feel better. My father always make me and my sister these when i was little..."you explained only looking at the Lanterns float away.

Lucifer looked at the beautiful Lanterns float away but nothing can compare to your smile...

You just got back from earth and fell down to your bed with a groan, you enjoyed the festival with Lucifer...

But you remembered what happened earlier before that..

"our of all the spell-"it hit a mirror and suddenly Glossaryck got cut off when the beam hit him.

"IT'S A POOL OF CHOCOLATE PUDDING!"

"WAIT GLOSSARYCK THAT'S NO-"he already jumped into dirty fountain in the garden.

"Magica Reverso!"you conjure another spell.

The spell before got reverse and now Glossaryck jump away from the murky fountain,he almost ate moss..

"let's not talk about that.."

"aye aye !"

"try another spell that's not included hallucinations..."

You though for a moment...then realized...

"oh i have spell that I've been working on!"it was a spell that can defend your whole entire family and everyone in mewni.

"it's a defense spell"you mentioned and Glossaryck conjured up a puppet.

You concentrate and said the spell in your head multiple times to be ready to say it , Glossaryck waited until you were ready.

"Wither and Decay Let Rose Decompose..." A dark violet beam shot out of the wand as your cheek marks looked like it was blossoming like a rose ?

Glossaryck saw this and was shocked your marks are like roses ?

The beam shot through the poor Puppets chest , roses exploded from it's chest and loud boom echoed through the whole Palace.

You marks were still glowing and now fully blossom to be a dark rose.

You watched at horror as the roses slowly consumed the poor puppet.

"n/n!" You heard sister call out in concern,she heard the loud boom from the garden,she quickly ran out of the throne room because she knows you were having magic lessons with Glossaryck.

She saw you marks,she was shocked. They were not red circles anymore but dark Roses. She also noticed a puppet?

It was slowly getting consumed by what it looked decaying roses?

The Magical High Commission also join in and saw what happened.

"WHAT HAPPENED?!?"A girl with flame ontop of her head yelled out

"what did you do?!"Romulus exclaimed.

Ookayy, i was working on my OC character for 6 months. I almost wrote her story, an now im making her page in the Magic Spell Book. I made her in formal princess dress aannddd… BUTTERFLY FORMM, im actually excited cuz i think i did very well this time.

Let me introduce you to her!!:3

Her name is Twilight Butterfly, she is 13 years old. And here comes the shocking part. She has two mothers! Eclipsa Butterfly and Moon Butterfly. You'll ask how it happened, of course with magic. But this doesn't have a different au, I mean I didn't change svtfoe's story at all, Moon and Eclipsa are still enemies in canon. How was she born? Yes, I thought a lot about how I could write something for this without spoiling the series and finally found a sufficient explanation! One day, Star thought of designing a spell to fix things between her mother and Eclipsa. She designed the spell and while she was doing it, she thought about what it would be like if my mother and Eclipsa had a daughter. Because she thought about this while doing the spell, the spell worked in reverse and instead of fixing things between them, it made the two of them have a baby. When Star did the spell and nothing happened, she gave up and forgot about it. But that baby fell into another dimension. (Also it happened before destroying magic.) I won't tell the rest, because I'm going to write a fanfiction for her. But to tell you briefly, Twilight had a very painful life in the dimension she fell into, she experienced such heavy things that she even came back from death. After spending 13 years in this dimension, twilight somehow comes to Mewni (I won't tell these parts yet, I can't give spoilers.) To be honest, I actually had a lot of problems with the character. I changed her story many times, I changed her name, personality, style many times. But finally, here we are, I found a middle ground for all of them! She is very strong in magic, and an excellent swordsman. smart, a bit weird, rarely serious, loves to have fun, relaxed but can be very nervous sometimes. very kind-hearted, loves to write and sing songs all the time, doesn't get scared of things easily. although she can fight perfectly,she is against war and hates fighting. loves dancing. finally, she can have dangerously powerful magic, but that doesn't mean she can control it, oh dude, we're gonna have a lot of trouble with uncontrolled magic…

She is actually sister of Star, and also Meteora! To be honest i loved her design, this is why i think i did very well.

And a note: The draft and design of the wand is ready but still in the drawing phase.

something about Toffee having been a creation by Jushtin Butterfly hence he shares his and septarian DNA and is partly a magical creature because Jushtin used magic to blend the DNA together.

His relationship with Moon being very rocky because he's still a threat to the Butterfly family but much less than Seth is. his eyes resemble Skywynne's eyes and that adds an insult to the injury of the Butterfly family.

Toffee initially is fully against the idea of teaming up with the Butterflies but changes his mind when he starts to doubt his origin and wants answers from Eclipsa

Moon didn't use the darkest spell on Toffee and aimed at Seth instead because she knew that Seth is the bigger threat of the two, despite her having utmost animosity toward Toffee. She is the Undaunted after all, prioritizing her kingdom's safety above her feelings.

Eclipsa didnt know Toffee is related to her family, but she started to suspect that after reading through her uncle's hidden scrolls (plus she's not biased against monsters being potentially blood related to her). She somehow ends up being the link that holds the begrudging team-up between Butterflies and Toffee together. The only reason he agrees to take their side for once is because he disagrees with Seth's idea of Septarian supremacy And because he wants answers from Eclipsa about who he is.

Helloo, I am an Eclipsa fan like you and I am wondering what it would be like if you could make a special episode for Eclipsa in the show:)

Hey!! Fellow Eclipsa fan let’s go!! ♠️ :D

I’ve dwelled on this question for a while. Considering I have an entire AU where she is a very prominent supporting character and the best friend of the protagonist, it should’ve been pretty easy to answer this, but I’d never thought about this question in an episode format before.

Considering you mean an Eclipsa episode during the events of the show (part of why this question was so difficult), I’m going to talk about a brief concept I’ve given some thought to over the last few days. I don’t know where this would be in the show’s timeline, somewhere in Season 4, but I’m not sure exactly where.

Here goes:

Eclipsa is a character that I love for many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons I love her so much is because of how flawed she is as a person. The obvious ones are her impulsivity and only thinking about herself in a lot of situations (aka selfishness), but I focus on her flaws in relation to monsters and their treatment. Most of the fandom praises Eclipsa because she by far treats them the best than any Butterfly before her, but it doesn’t mean she’s a tried and true monster ally. Not only did she fancy them in the first place soley because of her attraction toward them, but she has a LOT of anti-monster biases ingrained into her that still persist to this day. The biggest one is her adversity to the Septarians and the creation of a spell specifically to kill them based on rumors and word of mouth from Globgor (another anti-Septarian biased party), but she’s still not perfect in other regards. She has a lot to unlearn and educate herself about. Eclipsa is just as capable as any other Butterfly of mistreating monsters, even if she’s put in YEARS of effort of unlearning already.

This is NOT to discount the work Eclipsa already put in, she’s BY FAR the best towards monsters and makes efforts during the show to ensure their fair treatment (the Monster/Queen breakfast, returning to their homes to them, and creating new monster town), but she falls short in many areas. She works within the system the Butterflies set up (it disadvantages monsters by design and needs to be uprooted and replaced) and she thinks “peace” between Mewmans and Monsters can be solved quickly and easily— not only in modern day but back in her time when her mother was OPENLY COMMITTING GENOCIDE. She’s hopeful and optimistic but that line of thinking is grossly simplistic and fails to acknowledge the real areas of hurting by thinking a situation rooted in colonialist violence and genocide can be solved with “peace and harmony” and “bringing monsters and mewmans together” quickly and easily with no fuss.

Not only that, but most of her focus throughout Season 4 is Eclipsa trying to win the Mewmans on her side. She hardly faces any adversity from monsters and the Mewmans are practically all she’s focused on. She’s trying to win allyship and respect from her Mewman subjects and not the monsters. She’s neglecting the very people she claims to ally with so much.

So, if I were to write her an episode, what would I do?

Not sure about the exact details, but it’d be an episode focused on her relationship with monster civilians. Her being put in a situation where she realizes that the monsters also don’t like her too much just like the Mewmans don’t, but for vastly different reasons. She’d be called out and confronted with a situation she can’t just quickly wave her wand and make peace with. Her biases would be brought to light and she’d be faced with the realization that she needs to do better for the monsters she’s grown to care about so much and not just the Mewmans. She needs to earn their trust too. She’d actually put in time and effort to help with the situation in a personal way that proves that she is trying and putting in work and it isn’t just lip service or backhanded “peace” attempts without anything substantial behind it (I look not so subtly at Comet Butterfly). She’s being selfless and buckles down to get her hands dirty and makes real strides to amend her actions. She’s a queen who doesn’t stay up in her castle letting her subjects do whatever, but she dresses down, puts away her wand, rolls up her sleeves, and works alongside her people as an equal.

This would not instantly win over the monsters— they still wouldn’t have her full trust— but it’d be the first baby step in actually winning that trust. She has a lot to make up for and unlearn, but the thing I love about Eclipsa the most is that she TRIES. I love that she PUTS IN THE EFFORT. I love that she IS SELF-REFLECTIVE. I LOVE that she has flaws, but I love that she’s ALWAYS SEEKING TO IMPROVE HERSELF.

I think this episode would lead to the more democratic “the decision should be with the people” stance she takes in Cornonation. It’d be subtly foreshadowing a self-reflective look at the system her family set up being fundamentally flawed and her making actual strides to eventually uproot it. She’s still flawed, I’ll fully admit it’d be a HUGE step out of her comfort zone to dismantle the monarchy, but it’d hint toward that conclusion being the one she reaches.

Oh. Also. Star and Marco would not be in this episode. This is an Eclipsa/Meteora solo adventure. This episode does NOT need Star’s stupid fucking ass condescending bullshit and disrespect towards Eclipsa. Eclipsa is doing this independently without Star fucking Butterfly holding her hand or scolding her or any of that STUPID bullshit. Star and Marco would be nowhere near this event, they’d leave at the beginning of the episode off somewhere and leave her to it.

But yeah! It’s very bare bones, and I’m sure I could craft something better if I had more time, but that’s what I could come up with in a few days. Essentially an episode furthering her character arc and addressing her failings toward the monsters and how she works to our in substantial effort improving that relation with no magic shortcuts or quick “peace.” Tangible and active character growth for my second favorite character ♠️
