i will say something that frustrates me a bit, tom could dominate hollywood like Zendaya and timmy if he chooses too. he's got the skills, hes got the charisma, hes got the looks, and unlike Z who had to work her ass off for where she is today, he's got privilege. if he just go to the right events and make the right connections, and choose the right roles, he could dominate hollywood. of course with roles, there will be hits and misses. i love tom, huge fan of his. he did wonderful with spiderman and uncharted even though people were rooting against, but his charisma and talent won a lot of people over. kid's got potential he just doesnt use it. either because he doesnt want to or doesnt know how to. but it is frustrating as of right now because theres so much potential. the good thing about awards shows and these types of events is that he can meet and talk to some major players in hollywood, he just doesnt want to go, and i get why, he said why but doesnt change things. Timmy uses his star power, and though a bit pretentious and hungry for fame which i dislike, hes (for the most part/ he made poor decisions over the last month or 2) smart. he goes to events, he mingles with people, he chooses to work with powerful and big name directors and you've got to give him that at least. same with JE. and i hate JE literally. hes more pretentious and obnoxious, no charisma but him and his team are super smart. i will give them that at least.
Thanks for your honest thoughts and opinions Anon.
You know, I kind of hear this type of sentiment from many Tom stans quite a lot, and I'm wondering if possibly what's going on here is that SOME of Tom's stans sort of feel like he started off on such a great foot with his earlier indie career, and then with Spider-Man, but then now...Some may feel as though Tom is kind of lagging behind his peers, especially when they see other actors around his same age (even up-and-coming actors) seeming to be "eclipsing" Tom (Dom's favorite word lol 😅) in the Hollywood industry career department.
I can sort of see why SOME of Tom's stans who actually really do love him would like to see him having the same prestige, film roles, or perceived "hype" in Hollywood that they see other young actors getting in the industry.
With all of that said however... I think fans need to take a deep breath, take a step back, and keep in mind first and foremost that the level of fame that Tom has is NOT something that is easy for most people.
Tom was announced as being the next Spider-Man in 2015, and then he was first seen in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016....then from there he went on to film his OWN solo Spidey film, "Spiderman: HOCO" in 2016....and then, a year later, he was thrust and catapulted into a level of fame that he had never experienced before after his film HOCO came out in 2017.
Tom's popularity and fame has only INCREASED since 2017. Most of that is due to Marvel and being in some of the most highest-grossing blockbuster films in the WORLD, and another part of that is due to Tom's general likability, friendliness, and charismatic nature that just seems to come naturally to him. 😊
I don't even think that fans can really compare Tom's fame level to lesser-known actors, or even to Timothee Chalamet, who JUST recently reached 19 Million followers on Instagram, whereas meanwhile, Tom has 66.3 Million followers on Instagram. I just don't think that's really fair.
Timothee has also had the added benefit of being able to sort of "fly under the radar" somewhat. While Timothee is yes, very popular, has a huge fanbase, and has critical acclaim with tons of award nominations and a few wins under his belt, he also has usually primarily stuck to mostly smaller, indie films throughout most of his career, so Timmy's fame has seen more of slightly gradual increase in fame level, as opposed to becoming WILDLY HUGE overnight, as was the case with Tom.
I've always said that if I were to ever become famous, I would rather be SEMI-famous, and still be able to live a somewhat normal life, do my work, go home, and have a pretty basic lifestyle, vs being MEGA-famous, barely being able to walk out of my front door without being papped or chased by fans, or always being asked for a picture (or sometimes not even asked), and having my life constantly up for discussion. And a "Private life"? What's that?? I would much prefer the former rather than the latter.
I don't think fans realize that fame (especially large amounts of it) can really mess with someone's head. While at the outset it might seem fun, exciting, addictive and even intoxicating at first, fans don't realize that later on down the line, this level of fame can make you feel suffocated after a while. 😔
Many actors (and celebrities just in general) have suffered from anxiety, loneliness, DEPRESSION, paranoia, and worthlessness just simply due to having to deal with massive amounts of fame, hate online, and the constant feeling of their lives being under a microscope. 😔
Based on what Tom (and his dad) has said, to me it almost seems as though he would rather try to live a more normal life, as opposed to getting even MORE increasingly famous. We have to remember that unlike some actors who may have always dreamed of acting or being famous, Tom was sort of thrown into acting due to being spotted by a talent scout. He ended up liking it and just stuck with it, but it's not like he was somebody who was dreaming of being an actor or being famous one day, like some others might.
Dom has even said recently on a podcast that he doesn't even worry about Tom's career in Hollywood... He worries MOST about whether or not his son will have the ability to live a somewhat normal LIFE. To me, that was very telling. 😔
Personally?? I think that overall Tom will be okay. But like you yourself even mentioned, we need to ask ourselves if continuing to be massively famous is something that Tom himself even wants?? 🤔 To me, it seems like Tom has other more important goals in his life that take more priority. Jmho.
While Tom I'm sure enjoys acting, and might even wish to direct films one day, I don't get the impression that he is particularly all that comfortable with the huge fame aspect of it. That can be somewhat daunting for anybody.
I think fans need to have some mercy and grace, and realize that Tom is doing just fine, and he will be okay. 😊 Like you mentioned, he has some privilege in Hollywood that not all people (especially woc) are afforded. I know fans only want Tom to be getting accolades because we all know and see his talent, his potential, and want certain roles for him, or for him to work with certain directors/actors, etc. But we have to ask ourselves: "What does TOM want?" 🤔

xenoblade chronicles 3 not winning best score and music was an absolute travesty to be honest.
no other soundtrack took the time like xenoblade to create their own shinobue flutes to get a unique sound for each of the two main protagonists’ flute themes.
yes, gow was a strong ost, but it is nowhere near as varied and unique as xenoblade (the heavy flute usage is already pretty unique on top of the usual xenoblade ost craziness with metal, jazz, funk, emotional ballads, and even choral) and besides maybe two songs there aren’t any i’d be able to name as incredibly strong and memorable off the top of my head. and i feel like the goty medley kinda reflects that with the weight of life arrangement being one of the only sections to stand out and not feel jumbled together (although its probably also partially due to this year’s medley being a bit of weaker arrangement imo).
i could even write you pages and pages on how xenoblade’s score does it’s storytelling from how consul m’s flute instrumentation subtly foreshadows the twist in ch 6, how N’s boss theme uses so many leitmotifs we’ve heard through the course of the game to tell his story and how he came to be what he is now, how eclipse homecoming subverts your expectations and takes a theme often used to symbolize hope and acceptance into pure grief and anguish, etc.
not to mention the many many different battle themes of different styles, many having adaptive music that changes depending on your place in a fight. so so much love and care was put into this soundtrack by yasunori mitsuda, ace, kenji hiramatsu, minami kiyota, and it sucks to see it go unrecognized again like xc2 in 2017.
definitely not the first time it’s happened tho (cough RDR2 winning over octopath traveler), but i’d like to see more actual thought being put into these awards by the judging panel rather than simply picking the western game you’ve heard of and came out the most recently
tldr: the game awards being the game awards once again

The Effort and Payoff of Independent Game Development
Tumblr media
Independent video game developers have released a host of highly-rated, top-selling video games over the last decade. In some cases, teams of just two or three developers and artists produce games that yield hundreds of hours of content.
This was precisely the case with Hollow Knight, a Metroidvania released by Team Cherry in early 2017. Team Cherry was formed in 2013 as a duo: game designer William Pellen and art supervisor Ari Gibson. The two bonded over a love of classic Nintendo games and soon took part in various game jams and collaborative competitions in which developers attempt to make a game, usually with a specific theme, in just a few days or even a handful of hours.
Pellen and Gibson completed their first game together, Hungry Knight, as part of the 27th Ludum Dare game jam. The central character would become the protagonist of Hollow Knight but Hungry Knight was crude by comparison. The pair missed the deadline for a second game jam, this one with the theme “beneath the surface.” However, the theme sparked an idea for an abandoned civilization far beneath the earth, a location perfect for their knight character to explore.
Team Cherry launched a Kickstart for Hollow Knight in 2014. The campaign was successful but not so big, garnering $57,138 in contributions after an initial request of $35,000. The studio expanded modestly, hiring musician Christopher Larkin and programmer David Kazi. To the surprise of many, the small team produced a title on par with any AAA release.
Hollow Knight launched on PC in 2017 and gradually expanded to all major platforms. The central story takes roughly 30 hours to complete, according to gamer resources howlongtobeat.com, while a complete playthrough takes the average gamer nearly 70 hours to finish. Gibson hand-drew nearly 200 bosses, enemies, and non-player characters (NPC), each with dozens of unique animations, to say nothing of the game’s many diverse environments, also drawn by Gibson.
The small studio not only managed to release the massive game but launched a series of DLC accompaniments over the following 18 months at no additional cost to players. Team Cherry’s efforts paid off in both critical reception and sales. The game received a 9.4 from IGN, a 92 from PC Gamer, and has a 90 percent rating on Metacritic, indicating universal acclaim.
From a financial perspective, the game sold more than 500,000 copies on PC by the end of its first year. Hollow Knight sold 250,000 copies on the Nintendo Switch within its first two weeks. Lifetime sales had eclipsed three million by 2020, and the game’s popularity has expanded since then.
While the story of Hollow Knight is impressive, it is not necessarily unique in the world of independent game development. Cuphead is a 2D run-and-gun game developed by Chad and Hared Moldenhauer, brothers who pooled their resources to release their dream game. Like Hollow Knight, Cuphead has an instantly recognizable art style inspired by rubber hose-style animation from the golden age of animation, as seen in shorts produced by the likes of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Warner Bros. Cartoons. Chad Moldenhauer hand-drew all game assets, including Cuphead’s 31 bosses, a world record for run and gun games.
After development began in 2010, the game gradually expanded in scope. The studio remained small but hired a jazz musician to record an era-appropriate score. At one point during development, the Moldenhauers were forced to remortgage their home to continue financing Cuphead.
Once again, perseverance paid off. The game scored near-perfect marks with players and critics, joined Hollow Knight on several Best Games of 2017 lists, and was named Best Microsoft Game by GameInformer. Sales reached six million units in 2020.
Small game developers compete with AAA releases every year. As recently as 2021, the Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards was It Takes Two, developed by a small, Stockholm-based company that beat franchise games such as Resident Evil, Metroid, and Ratchet and Clank.

'When the #Barbenheimer hashtag emerged last summer, encouraging filmgoers to watch two radically different blockbusters as a double bill, Christopher Nolan’s epic study of atom bomb pioneer J Robert Oppenheimer appeared almost as an afterthought to the frothy, comedic doll-centred Barbie, its seriousness and three-hour length weighing it down. The box office battle – Barbie’s $1.4bn worldwide revenue convincingly defeating Oppenheimer’s $959.9m – appeared conclusive. But as the awards season nears its climax, Oppenheimer looks set to eclipse Barbie at both the Oscars and the Baftas, with the stage set for a triumphant homecoming for Nolan at the Baftas in London on Sunday.
Despite his status as a major Hollywood auteur, with his films having earned over $6bn and critical hosannas by the bucket-load, Nolan is yet to win an Oscar or a Bafta. With 12 features under his belt as director, Nolan’s work has ranged from innovative thrillers such as Memento to superhero epics including Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and sci-fi adventures such as Inception, Interstellar and Tenet. Oppenheimer continues Nolan’s interest in historical drama, after 2017’s Dunkirk. But despite five previous Oscar nominations and five Baftas, Nolan is yet to take home a single statuette.
This year could be different. Oppenheimer leads the nominations count at the Baftas with 13, and scored the same amount at the Oscars; the director also has personal nominations in three categories – best film, best director and best adapted screenplay – at both awards. While it isn’t possible to predict voter outcomes with certainty, it would count as a major shock if he did not walk away with at least the best director award from both organisations.
Charles Gant, awards editor of Screen International magazine, says that, despite Nolan not winning for the previously nominated Inception or Dunkirk, he would be loth to suggest Bafta, Nolan’s home academy, is somehow biased against this extremely successful film-maker. “It’s easy to see it as some kind of tall-poppy syndrome in effect, but I don’t think it’s that. Inception is a sci-fi action blockbuster, and not typically the kind of film Bafta clutches to its heart. Dunkirk lost to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri in best film, and The Shape of Water’s Guillermo Del Toro in director. I’m not seeing an anti-Nolan prejudice here. The votes just went that way.”
Gant, who is a Bafta voter, agrees that Oppenheimer could see a change in Nolan’s fortunes. “In a competitive year, Oppenheimer seems to be cutting through. It is a highly achieved biographical drama that took a very serious subject and created a global box office blockbuster, despite challenges including a very lengthy run time, and a preponderance of scenes featuring a bunch of men talking in rooms. Although Oppenheimer isn’t necessarily my personal choice to win the big categories, I respect that achievement. They made the film seem like an event. I don’t see a rival delivering a knockout blow.”
Nolan’s triumphal tour would appear to have already begun, with two Golden Globes and the Directors Guild of America award under his belt already this year, and the award of the prestigious BFI Fellowship “in recognition of outstanding contribution to film or television culture” at an event attended by the prime minister on Wednesday. And while nearly all of Nolan’s films have been made in and funded by the US studio system, Oppenheimer’s dominance at this year’s Bafta ceremony throws into sharp relief Bafta’s vital balancing act between acknowledging Hollywood’s dominance in English-language film-making, and making room for homegrown British productions. Gant says now “we expect” to see British acting talent performing strongly: Bafta this year sees Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Vivian Oparah (Rye Lane) and Claire Foy (All of Us Strangers) up for nods, while the Irish contingent includes Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers). “Bafta has always stated that the awards elevate British talent by judging them on a platform alongside the best from all over the world,” says Gant. “Although in practice that principally means the best from North America. I think Bafta is successfully walking the line it has chosen to walk.”
However, there has been considerable disquiet over the omission of Andrew Scott, the Irish star of All of Us Strangers, from the best leading actor category, with Bafta’s jury system coming in for criticism. The new nomination system, in which specially-convened juries pick half of the nominees in high profile categories, was intended by Bafta to increase the diversity of its awards, but in this case Scott, a high-profile gay actor, appears to have lost out despite two of his co-stars receiving supporting performer nominations.
Gant, who has served as a Bafta jury member in the past, defends the system, saying its expansion “was a necessary correction after the 2020 #BaftaSoWhite year, and I think the pros outweigh the cons”. But like many others he is baffled by Scott’s omisson. “It is a bizarre outcome. Bafta juries always proceed with great care and diligence, but in this case the jurors collectively delivered a decision that is hard to comprehend.”
The Bafta film awards take place on Sunday 18 February at the Royal Festival Hall in London.'

What are some of the biggest Oscar flukes in your opinion?
Coda 💀 but besides that...
Best Picture: I think Chicago is a bizarre Best Picture winner but I really like that movie so I support it (I love hot people!!!) and Marty 1955 kinda too because it's a very idk... small movie but in a good way. Crash winning over Brokeback Mountain is my roman empire tho. (Stupid silly vaguely sexist meme but it’s true.) Also The Life of Emile Zola winning over A Star is Born in 1936? Lmao. Some other forgotten movies that have been eclipsed by more modern faves like How Green is My Valley over Citizen Kane lmaooo. It's still wild to me that Midnight Cowboy won but imo it was very deserved, it's still an excellent movie. Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas kinda wild, same with Forrest Gump over Shawshank Redemption. And now I'm scrolling through a list and: Shakespeare in Love over either Saving Private Ryan or The Thin Red Line? Seriously?
This is going to get long so I'm putting the rest of the categories under a cut so come along for the madness if you want but I got way too into this lmao, hopefully this is answering your question tho.
Best Actor:
Paul Newman should've won for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
1967 is an insane year I truly don't know how voters chose like look at this we have some all-time great actors at arguably their very best and most iconic here...
Tumblr media
and you didn't ask but once again I think Al Pacino deserved it for Dog Day Afternoon! (Then he got it for Scent of a Woman when maybe Denzel should've gotten it for Malcolm X. But I digress.) Tom Hanks winning back to back years is maybe one of the bigger flukes?????? Especially 1994........ come on. I also find Nicholson winning for As Good as it Gets to be a fluke because I kinda hate that movie and he's not that great in it. But! Again! I digress! Imo Heath Ledger should've won for Brokeback Mountain because PSH could've won basically any other year because Capote is good but not great but here we are in the Oscars biopic or nada era sigh.
Anyone else should've won in 2017.
Tumblr media
And I forgot about BoRhap. Let's not talk about that fluke. Same with Joker lowkey and I just I wanna redo all the Oscars now ifsdnlkzm. (Give it to him for 2017 and You Were Never Really Here!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD.)
Barring Gary Oldman again, what a good category. Riz Ahmed gave my favorite performance of the awards season but wild that Chadwick didn't win. (And Steven Yeun could've won for Burning. BUT ANYWAY.)
Tumblr media
And let's also not talk about The Whale and also not about that fact that fucking horny posting aside, Paul Mescal gave my favorite performance of 2022 that I've seen.
Best Actress:
Gloria Swanson should've won.
Tumblr media
I think everything that As Good As It Gets won was a fluke bc again. Movie kinda sucks. Sharon Stone should've won for Casino. This has just become a bitch session! I'm just getting surprised my favs didn't win. Same w Shirley MacLaine not winning for The Apartment. Sandra Bullock winning for The Blind Side of all things is bullshit but whatever. Frances McDormand winning for Nomadland is kinda random af, same w Jessica Chastain but good for her.
Bitch session over i can't do this anymorenldfkmz

DRAWING IS A VERB
Taney Roniger                                 March 4 – April 8, 2023    Opening Reception:  Saturday, March 4, 5-8pm
Artist talk:  Friday, April 7, 6pm
Tumblr media
Studio 34 is pleased to  present Drawing is a Verb, an exhibition of large-scale drawings by  Taney Roniger. Made over the last two years, the works explore not what  drawings can mean or signify but rather what they can do to the body of the  viewer.
Inspired by a book by  Sarah Robinson titled Architecture is a Verb, Roniger began the series  by thinking about how conditions of light can alter moods and states of  consciousness. Soon she began thinking about spatial conditions as well,  coming to focus on spaces that evoke our earliest ancestry as a species.  Using charcoal because of the unique way it interacts with her paper’s  surface, she began making drawings meant to evoke these earliest conditions.  In the resulting series, settings such as the ocean, the horizon, and the  forest become recurring motifs, appearing not in their literal form but by  subtle suggestion. With their quietly rhythmic and luminous presence, the  drawings communicate a deep sense of home.
For Roniger, the  experience of the viewer is primary. “So much art these days is about the  identity of the artist,” she says. “My work, by contrast, is all about the  viewer. I want to make things that eclipse me altogether, things that speak  of – and to – the body experiencing them.” In conceiving of her work as  speaking to the body, Roniger’s ultimate aim is to create a physical  experience of our continuity with the natural world. “If I do my job right,”  she says, “even the viewer will be eclipsed. Ideally, all that will be left  will be a deeply felt sense of belonging to the world.”
In conjunction with the  exhibition, the gallery will host a conversation between Roniger and artist,  writer, and curator Daniel Hill. The event will take place on Friday, April 7th  at 6:00pm.
______
Taney Roniger is an  artist and writer based  in New York. Her awards and honors in the visual arts include three  Yaddo fellowships, a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and a  traveling fellowship from the Stacey Sussman Cavrell Memorial Foundation.  Since 2012, she has been a contributing writer at The Brooklyn Rail,  for which she served as Guest Editor in December 2017. Her writing has also  appeared in Interalia, Hyperallergic, Whitehot Magazine, Big Red &  Shiny, Transverse, and On-Verge. In 2016 she was a finalist for  the Creative Capital Arts Writers Grant in short-form non-fiction. Over the  last ten years she has organized numerous arts-related symposia, among them  Thingly Affinities: Rethinking Aesthetic Form for a Posthumanist Future,  Beyond Kandinsky: Revisiting the Spiritual in Art, Strange Attractors: Art,  Science, and the Question of Convergence, and Stop the Interrogation, a critical  look at nonsense language in the visual arts. She holds an MFA from Yale  University and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, where she teaches in the  Fine Arts Department and Honors Program.

In February 2017, GoTo Meeting became a product of LogMeIn as a result of a merger between LogMeIn and Citrix’s GoTo business. The later release of GoTo Webinar in 2006 and GoToTraining in 2010 expanded GoToMeeting capabilities to accommodate larger audiences. GoTo Meeting was developed in July 2004 using the remote access and screen sharing technology from GoToMyPC and GoToAssist to allow web conferencing. By combining a web-hosted subscription service with software installed on the host computer, transmissions can be passed through highly restrictive firewalls. Transmissions are protected with high-security encryption and optional passwords. GoTo Meeting is designed to broadcast the desktop view of a host computer to a group of computers connected to the host through the Internet. In July 2016, Citrix and LogMeIn announced plans to merge the GoTo family of products. In late 2015, Citrix announced plans to spin off the GoToMeeting business as a standalone subsidiary with a market value around $4 billion. It is an online meeting, desktop sharing, and video conferencing software package that enables the user to meet with other computer users, customers, clients or colleagues via the Internet in real time. GoTo Meeting (formerly GoToMeeting) is a web conferencing software by GoTo. 2017 Eclipse Award Selections
Champion Juvenile Filly
1. Rushing Fall
2. Caledonia  Road
3. Moonshine Memories
4. Wonder Gadot
5. Dream Tree
Gasp! A turf horse as a Champion Juvenile? The horror! Rushing Fall has been the most consistent of the juvenile fillies, it seems, winning all three of her career starts, including the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf. Her sire is More Than Ready, and her damsire is Forestry, which indicates a future on both turf and dirt.
Caledonia Road won the Juvenile Dirt Fillies, and like Rushing Fall, it was her only stakes win. She finished second in the Frizette before the Juvenile, which some would argue puts her over Rushing Fall, but I digress.
Moonshine Memories is the only dual Gr.I winning juvenile filly, but the daughter of Malibu Moon flopped in the Juvenile Fillies.
Wonder Gadot took the Gr.II Demoiselle Stakes and Gr.III Mazarine Stakes in Canada, finishing third in the Gr.I Natalma on the Turf. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, a sire known obviously for his top fillies, is now pointing towards the Lecomte Stakes in January against the boys.
Dream Tree won the Starlet Stakes over a small field, while also winning the ungraded Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar. Undefeated in three starts, the daughter of  Uncle Mo boasts Afleet Alex as her damsire.
Honorable Mentions go to Heavenly Love, winner of the Alcibiades, Road to Victory, the Golden Rod winner, and Alluring Star, who finished second to Caledonia Road and Moonshine Memories.
