i think you’re missing the fundamental fact that scott KNEW about the content ecto posted about.

if you read the doc from ecto, he was given a list of warnings before he followed and supported ectos blog, to which he AGREED

he absolutely was saving face by taking back his support and pretending like he didn’t know

also ecto literally got doxxed directly following the clip of scott retracting support and then when he was told what happened to ecto, told them to get over it as if it was just a bit of normal internet hate

being for/against proship doesn’t matter at this point, it’s basic human decency NOT to dox people. if anyone really cared about it they would have called the bloody police instead rather than putting on such a performance to ruin someone’s career

sorry, i know the original point of your post was about the scott hate and i kind of got off topic, but i have a lot of strong feelings about the situation lol

I perfectly understand having strong feelings on this situation because, yeah, it was a very fucked up mess and thank you for talking about this in a civilized manner. The point on Scott telling Ecto this was just normal internet hate being a bad move on his end and that is basic human decency to not dox someone are actually points that I agree with, and like I've said yeah he should have at least told his audience to not harass Ecto.

But Ecto was already getting doxxed before Scott addressed the situation. Scott addressed the situation on October 9 (even if he doesn't adress who "the artist" is by name, he should had asked his audience to not harass them, even the original account to out Ecto said to not harass them) while Ecto on their document mentions the account ectothrowaway2 on twitter was attempting to find their personal info on the night of the 7th and already getting doxxed on the 8th. (if you meant that the doxxing intensified after Scott's statement then that's a fair point of criticism towards him).

Posting dead dove/don't eat and being a proshipper can overlap on the aspect of dealing with problematic content but they aren't strictly the same. I know people who produce dead dove too might get hate for "condoning problematic content" even when is done from their own trauma or depicting said problematic content in the negative light it deserves. And I agree with the sentiment of not harassing someone of the ships they indulge, but there does come a point where things are not as acceptable (I don't mean by this that past some point is okay to harass someone, just that at some point it becomes something not as justifiable under the lenses of fiction being fiction). Proshipping saddly is a term often used by those who are actually fine with shipping stuff such as underage characters and adults, incest and other problematic dynamics (I myself was not aware of the non-harassing part of the proshipping stance until this situation). What I mean is that they are not 100% mutually inclusive, you can make dead dove content and still think shipping problematic stuff the same way you ship non-problematic stuff is wrong.

Had Ecto mentioned right away they are a proshipper and Scott shown to have no problem with that until this whole situation then he would have absolutely been trying to save face. Ecto themselves mention the user who called them out found their NSFW account through Scott's following list so is not like he kept it a secret that he was following a NSFW artist, especially given the fact Ecto themself would put screenshots of his and Sausage's interactions with their art.

My point on Scott getting so much criticism when he did originally mean to help while Sausage, who was way closer to Ecto than Scott, did nothing yet he hasn't received as much criticism still stands. Sausage has been shouting out Ecto ever since Empires S2 if i recall correctly, they are as known in his community as E. Yet we had no word from him in this whole situation.

Scott deserves criticism for how he acted in this situation, yes, especially when talking to Ecto he should have been more tactful when talking with them in private too. But I don't think the situation is as black and white as him retracting his support for Ecto because it was inconvenient to him. I was disappointed in him too when this first started, him and Sausage, and only retracted my support after actually leaving Ecto messages and comments of support about 2 weeks later when I found out they are a proshipper, and tho I agree (hell even the user who originally called them out agreed this got out of hand) this was too much, I didn't feel comfortable supporting someone who stood for something I don't agree with.

Yes, Ecto didnt deserve all this hate and frankly dangerous treatment towards them. Harassing someone to the point to have to be put on a suicide watch and their carreer ruined this way just because on an opinion on how to deal with media is like deciding the best way to deal with a mosquito is launching a nuke at it. If you find out someone indulges in something you don't approve of the best action to take is to block them and, if necessary, report them. Not harassing, not sending death threats, not trying to find where they live, not NOTHING that happened here

If this is about ectoslab, they were outed as a proshipper. Scott initially did express his support for them cuz a burner account on twitter started to hate on them and attempt to dox them and sending death threats

I wont deny Scott could have handled the situation better but as far as I'm aware he was the only one to express his support at first, other cc seem to just have dropped ecto from the start

the artist foxxology was also close friends with ecto and also got sent hate for "supporting a proshipper" when they simply expressed that the hate mob was unecessary, although they cut out ecto too for not aproving of them being a proshipper and so did a few other artists (saddly they removed the post but the link was this)

I send this just to give some more information on the situation. I too was on ecto's side until finding out what they did. I was still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that perhaps they were no longer a proshipper but given how they continued to defend that proshipping doesnt mean just shipping problematic stuff and later in a google doc explaining the situation from their point of view said the characters they shipped where over the age of 18... i just was no longer able to give them that benefit. Still getting doxxed and sent death threats to the point of leaving ecto in a very bad place mentaly is not good

That last sentence is kinda weird to me. There are questionable things he's done that I think could sour some people's opinions if they were already iffy about him, but please don't use me as an arbiter of who you should and shouldn't like, especially without looking things up yourself. My reasons are very much 90% personal taste. If there was something awful and big enough objectively that people *should* drop him you probably would have heard about it and I def wouldn't be hiding it in the tags of a random ask on my art blog.

I just don't like him. He rubs me the wrong way and the moments I enjoy watching him are far between. I don't enjoy his personality, I don't tend to like his bits, and some of his jokes make me uncomfortable. I don't like his interaction with the people I do like, like Jimmy and Pearl, and I generally find myself muttering "go away" when he is around. That's it.

There have been some incidents, of vastly different levels of validity, but the root of them all is he is uncomfortably entrenched in fandom and also terrible at responding to incidents and drama. He fumbles his way through them and either makes a scene or causes harm to others. Recently there was an incident, and I cannot find it right now so take this with a heaping bag of salt because you should never trust sourceless information, of an artist he worked with who got in hot water because he followed their r18 account and then responded poorly to the hate mob that followed while trying to save his own skin, while already tied up in other controversies.

I'm the kinda person who easily and quickly drops media or products if I get bad vibes so that was enough for me, regardless if it's true because I just can't enjoy someone after controversies. But that also happened recently and I've always not really been fond of him, I just wasn't honest because I felt like it was better to try and like something. I just ended up disliking him more because of it though, I think. So I've stopped and just decided to interact with him as little as possible.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE TRAILER!! (long post, fyi)

Alright Ghostheads, I'm writing all this down now, so I won't forget all these thoughts and observations I'm having JUST a few hours after this awesome teaser for the "Afterlife sequel" has dropped.

I'm sure I'm missing some bits here, so comments are duly welcome, just don't go all negative energy on me =)

Definitely felt a similar vibe to when the first trailer for "Afterlife" came out like 2 years ago now. Normal summer day, good background music, then...sh*t happens. Even worse than that burst of PK energy from the mine shaft. And yeah, I saw bits of "Day After Tomorrow," I'd be lying if I didn't get JUST a little hint of that, but only because, you know, massive storm system overwhelming the south shore of Manhattan. But anyway.

2. I SWEAR that one building shot from the side is 55 Central Park West, aka Spook Central. Probably not significant plot wise this time, just a nod to the original movie. And considering I toured some of the filming sites on my trip to NYC this past summer, SURE looks like it!

3. Deadly icicles ripping up the streets? Like the earthquake tearing up the asphalt in the original movie only BETTER!

4. The discourse is already happening about details...I know some people like Ecto 1-A from GB2, and some fans are still angry about "they ignored it in Afterlife! It's so canon! WTF Jason Reitman?" Yeah...missing the point? [They're not DELIBERATELY ignoring GB2! I LIKED GB2! A lot! Not perfect but still I LIKE IT! Probably a lot more than other fans! The film only had so much time to focus on the past to keep the story moving, so only put in so much of the lore to help a new audience along. That's my theory I'm sticking to it.]

ANYWAY...yes the car IS the original Ecto 1, NOT the 1-A (which was WAY too busy for its own good, just sayin'). I saw the plate on a freeze frame, it's Ecto 1, the original.

5. Enter the exposition cut scenes. or whatever you want to call them. Swear to God that Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, Dan, McKenna, and Logan are NOT at Ray's Occult Books...I mean come on look at those glass cases! It's GOTTA be the NY Public Library (throwback!) Patton's character is most likely a staff member, probably a librarian (related to Alice? God I hope so!) [GBs do their research yo! If that's one thing I love about the IDW comics, is how Ray and Egon and Kylie RESEARCH.]

That one bit with the frozen dude with the eyepatch? Looks like a flashback. Like, maybe Manhattan in the...late 1800s? Recurring hauntings is def a thing in the GB universe. Another secret society? Which, yeah, they did to death (sorry) with the Gozer thing, especially in the video game.

6. Liking all the concerned closeups. Paul Rudd still looking good, and I REALLY hope Carrie Coon as Callie has full on dropped the baggage about not having her Dad in her life. Well, mostly. Turned me off from her QUITE a bit in Afterlife, but that's just me. Finn's hair lookin' good short, love how McKenna still rocks the OshKosh look, and Logan with the retro vibe.

7. James Acaster HAS TO BE an adult Oscar. I WILL fight people on this =) Not Louis' kid, not Janine's... (well, maybe?) Peter and Dana are OFFICIALLY still a couple, what's to stop Peter from adopting the boy he saved in GB2? Or at least, maybe they have their own kid later on...? Damn I hope he's Oscar. I mean come on, this is still "Ghostbusters: the Next Generation" in my mind.

8. HAUNTED LION STATUE!!! (Yeah, that's right from Real Ghostbusters...kinda) It's the Library! And on another freeze frame...it's going after Ray (GASP!) That little elevator? Maybe they're going to...Special Collections? Remember the video game? Maybe? Squee?

9. DUDE, it's attacking GBHQ! Blew the freakin' doors off! It's gonna...NO NOT LUCKY! Dude she (they?) is getting the short end of the stick again...first she gets possessed by Zuul and now...please don't kill off Lucky, Gil! Also OGBs FTW!!! yeah Winston! bad ass mf as always! And man does Pete look proper scared. Go Bill Murray!

10. I'm presuming that the big bad/entity was originally trapped and stored in the ECU, hence the blinking red light in the post credits scene from Afterlife. And it's whatever's pushing out the cinder blocks this time around...and freezing Lucky in the basement of HQ? And it's the...thing pushing its demon horns in...(so far others are calling it a minotaur - totally NOT. this guy is so reaching, i mean an old obscure RGB comic reference from a wiki page? dude, just...no. a cross between a White Walker and Slenderman? yeah THOSE I get. I'm personally thinking some ancient demon from a summoning gone wrong...or maybe right in this case.) any case, DUDE with those icy blue staring eyes and 20 feet tall...f*ck yeah.

11. Also F*CK yeah Paul and Carrie in the jumpsuits! YES!!!

Alright, I can sort of buy a hidden room in Kumail's character's (presumably?) apartment, secret door at the back of a kitchen pantry with some pretty lead/silver tiling...but, what's with the horn? (SUMMONING HORN! Read the Bartimaeus Trilogy people!) and the shackles? the bells? well, yeah noise to drive away evil spirits...or not? again... SECRET SOCIETY! Or maybe Lucky and Trevor have their own place now? Nah, maybe not...wait and see I guess.

13. Dude...Paul Rudd is TALL, boy! Would like to see if they've actually gone and married...or, too soon? Nah, romantic/life partners is good.

That also surprised me in the middle of the whole discourse. I was an avid MythicalSausage watcher for the past 2 years. I always noticed Sausage interact and be more active around the fanbase compared to any other CC at that time.

(Honestly he does a lot of pandering and fan service back in Empires s2 and Ultimate hardcore. He literally made naturewives fanfiction on stream and the fanbase ate it up.)

But a lot of the crit was so focused on Scott for some reason? Like Sausage was retweeting and replying to a lot of Ecto's and other people's art back then. Which, I guess I'm glad other CCs didn't got harassed for it but still I don't think that was warranted for Scott either way.

Rebloging on main because 1-This is an extremely well put document and complete document and OP deserves more people see it and 2-In general is just good that people inform themselves because there's no denying that while scott jas made his fair share of mistakes some people just straight up demonize him for the tiniest of reasons so is best to know the full story

After two tedious days of digging through Twitter, reading and re-reading and a lot of deliberation, I present to you: The Scott Smajor Twitter Hell Vortex Doc

I want to make it very clear that the purpose of this document is not to pass any sort of moral judgment on Scott or anyone else involved in the Scott Smajor Twitter Hell Vortex.

The purpose of this document is to act as a masterpost of information regarding the events that occurred from August to November 2023 that resulted in Scott retreating from Twitter and his newfound "controversial" reputation amongst the fandom.

I've been seeing a lot of fans old and new alike confused about the events and why some people dislike or refuse to acknowledge Scott in fanart/fanfic, so hopefully this will be something able to be pointed to when an explanation is needed (because, god, a lot of stuff happened). Actually, visual evidence seems to point towards trolls being sorted such that every troll is paired with two others to produce a single ecto-baby for each partner, likely to reflect the two buckets and how the mother grub can only accept pre-combined (aka fertilized) slop. According to the visual evidence the trolls are seemingly also split into 2 closed loops of these partnerships, which likely correspond to their teams/dream moons. This is all visually apparent in Alterniabound by examining the ectobiology equipment.

No yeah, this is how the genetic material given is distributed, but also I'm talking about the biological differences with Trolls. They've got a Mother Grub, and while there's 'predominant' traits to each Troll, the genetic material used to make them has been basically filtered through thousands upon thousands of others.

In the same way that Ectobiology with Humans MUST add miscellaneous, random Data, because otherwise Earth-C couldn't like... Flourish as it did with just the sequence of 8 individuals, only 4 of which are really unique sequences, the Trolls' 'vats' likely represent some predominant traits, while ultimately still being filtered down the same way it would naturally when mixed in the Mother Grub. I think trying to 'figure out' who the 'parents' of each Alpha Troll is wrong on a biological level, and also likely to only lead to Discourse-

Stove is certainly a good place to start!  Their art is so nice.  Canon is dead to us anyway.  

But?  Movie?  What are you talking about?

More seriously, most of us like to pretend Phantom Planet doesn’t exist.  99% of DP phanphic should be tagged cannon divergence just for that, but... we don’t.  Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure I’ve ever actually seen a phic get tagged with canon divergence.  The most I’ve seen is just the alternate universe tag.  

Going backwards, I’d say our general vibe is pretty friendly.  At least here on tumblr.  I don’t think I’ve ever really seen someone being outright mean before and I’ve been here a couple of years.  Even though we have a lot of fanon, we’re pretty accepting and respectful of all headcanons.  There’s very little we take as actually absolute.  I mean, we’re split on whether Danny’s alive, dead, half-dead (whatever that means), or simply dead inside, like every other teen.

But we’re also sort of high-key lawful-chaotic.  As in, we currently have a planned, scheduled, sh*tposting contest which takes place behind a virtual Denny’s.  With brackets.  If it happens this year, it’ll be the third year.  

Further evidence: The only discourse we regularly have is food discourse.  Occasionally we will make parody blogs to impersonate each other.  We trend every year on the anniversary of the first episode air date because of the Dannypocalypse (aka we paste a cursed screenshot of Danny’s face onto everything).  We phrequently replace leading ‘f’s with ‘ph’s (I started doing this as a joke, but sometimes I read a word and can’t tell the difference).

Speaking of events, we have a lot.  Currently, we’re in the midst of our Secret Santa event, which we call either the Christmas Truce or the Holiday Truce after a in-universe event in the show.  I think the next big event is the Phight Club (aforementioned sh*tposting contest), then we have the Phic Phight (we split into teams and write phanphic at each other to see who can do the most), the Dannypocalypse, Dannymay (month-long prompt calendar challenge), and Ectober (another prompt calendar, but there are like three of them done by three different people; the one I do is the one week one).  Occasionally someone will make a new one out of nowhere, but I believe that all of these have taken place at least twice and their creators/hosts are still active.

The thing I hated about the whole Ecto thing was that Ecto had allegations from a discord server they were a part of from sending softcore porn to a server full of minors even when server members told them to stop.

Like apparently the server got deleted with no evidence and screenshots. But instead of the fanbase looking into that where REAL people and REAL children were involved people were so hellbent focused on proship-antiship discourse. Like, I don't know if any of the allegation from the server was real. It could be fake for all we know but no one bothered to continue THAT discussion of all things.

And of course, somehow this fanbase thought it was a good idea to dox them and send death threats. And anyone telling them off from sending death threats and harassments are suddenly labeled a proshipper like it dictates their moral compass.
