Malikah Shabazz
By: Dennis Richmond, Jr.
Malikah Shabazz, 56, was found dead in her Brooklyn residence yesterday. Shabazz was the daughter of the iconic human rights activist el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, famously known as Malcolm X. Her mother, the late Dr. Betty Shabazz, used to call Yonkers home.
Police said the death appears to be due to natural causes at this time. This tragedy occurred less than one week after Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam came home from prison. The two men are home after being locked up for the murder of Malcolm X. The men can thank Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr.
His office found that Aziz and Islam did not receive a fair trial. The District Attorney also discovered that the FBI Director, J. Edgar Hoover, withheld evidence during the trial. This evidence would have proved their innocence.
Bernice King is the daughter of the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. King tweeted about the death of Malikah. “I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz,” she said. “My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah.”

Personal thoughts and meditations upon the occasion of the Riverdale series finale.
Probably like four people are going to read this but I feel compelled to write it out anyway. This show has genuinely been a massive part of my life. I watched the first episode because some high school friends encouraged me to (IRONICALLY, BRO). I was in high school when I started this show. Those friends of course long ago fell away, unable to continue, unable to wacth anymore, but I have kept the faith. All seven seasons. Every. Single. Episode.
I’m not even entirely sure what captivated me so much about the show. I loved the atmosphere of season 1. I genuinely wanted to find out who killed Jason Blossom. Was genuinely fucked up by episode 1 x 12 and the first season finale.
I have such fond memories of watching the first season. I distinctly remember a road-trip I Tok with my friends the summer of 2017, and joking about  maple syrup drug empires and the “weirdo” line back when that was the wildest scene on the show. Joking about how sick of the song ‘Believer’ by Imagine Dragons (2017) we were.
And then I decided to get involved in a fandom for the first time in a couple of years, and so I revived my old Tumblr, and I began Posting. And reading posts.
That was my last summer after high school and I was so nervous about college but this show and this fandom helped me get through it. My freshman year I lived in a dorm, and if you wanted to watch TV you had to go down to this common room, so every Thursday I would go down there like an hour ahead of time and occupy the place to make sure the remote was in my hands by 7 PM. A few times I failed, and I missed an episode because of it. But rarely!
I remember that slowly dawning feeling as season 2 progressed. Scrolling my Tumblr feed and slowly seeing people come to the realization: “wait…is it just me or does this show actually suck.” Was kind of frustrating at the time, realizing that the writers just like…were bad, but in retrospect? Beautiful. Incredible. Legendary.
And you could even say that’s where the fun really began. Yes, there’s plenty to hate, but also Riverdale is brilliant. The show of all time. For real. No other show has done it like Riverdale. They just haven't, and they never will. The age of the cable television teen drama is ending, and what a hell of a last hurrah Riverdale has been.
The Red Circle. Jingle Jangle. The Gargoyle King. Edgar Evernever and his fantastic rocket. Bret Weston Wallis and Donna Sweett (genuinely cannot say their names without giggling). Jughead getting hit in the head with a rock and faking his death for like…some reason? I genuinely can’t remember, something to do with the Hardy Brothers idk. Tabitha sprinkling the devil with the tears of the Virgin Mary. The normies can laugh all they want about “epic highs and lows” but do they remember the even funnier lines like “if there’s no wedding, that means the gargoyle king has won” or “word of my exploits serving Nick his comeuppance…” THEY NEVER WILL. ONLY THE TRUE FAITHFUL UNDERSTAND.
And is silly as it all was, I have genuine affection for these characters. Like Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Archie, Cheryl, Toni, actually mean a lot to me. YES they’re fake but I want the best for them (and for Beronica to be canon but you know we can’t win them all). I’m genuinely grateful that this show has existed and been a part of my life for the past six years.
Moreover, I credit this show for seriously getting into writing. I’ve actually written almost a million words of Riverdale fanfiction. Much of it will never see the light of day, but it exists. Maybe I even have one or two left in me, I don’t know. At the very least I’d like to finish a few uncompleted fics. But I’ve also branched out. Since I started seriously writing in 2017, I’ve also finished several original manuscripts, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll get one published. Stranger things have happened.
So, thanks Roberto.
And thanks to all of the very cool people I’ve run into in this fandom. I honestly wish I’d gotten to know most of you better, but them’s the breaks. Hopefully this isn’t weird but I’m going to tag a few people in particular.
@village-skeptic. I know you’re not in the fandom anymore (lucky you), but thank you for, once upon a time, reading every one of the 200,000+ words of a 17-year-old kid’s turgid, indulgent, Riverdale Spanish Civil War fan fiction. I never, ever would have finished that story without you, and I credit it with giving me the confidence to keep writing, and in fact to write everything I’ve written since then. You’re brilliant and awesome.
@satelliteinasupernova. Thank you for also reading Interbellum (are we noticing a pattern), and more importantly for all of your wonderful drawings. INCLUDING fanart of some of my fics. You have no idea how happy that Strange Death of Elizabeth Cooper piece made me. You rule.
@sullypants. You were a perennial presence on my feed. Always wonderful to see. I love your taste in art, and I love those ‘penguin classics’ covers you made for a few of my fics. Thank you also for beta reading a few fics for me back in the glory days. And thank you for chatting with me a couple times over the years, including a few times when I was in quite unhappy places.
@stillhidden. I’m not sure if we’ve ever actually talked, but you like or reblog everything I post and it makes me feel like I’m not just shouting into the void. Same goes for @frauleinfunf Thank God for dutiful mutuals.
@sonyascomet. I can’t remember when I started following you but you have a really good sense of humor. And I’ll always remember when you kept posting about “Greg” for Succession and I, not knowing anything about Succession, kept imagining Greg Heffley.
@stillhidden thank you for your world-weary Riverdale posts. You truly understand fandom like few others.
@halcooper. Your devotion to the neglected parents of Riverdale is truly admirable. Every time I see Lochlyn Munro in some weird low budget horror movie I’ll think of you.
I hope I didn’t forget anyone who would be offended by my forgetting, but I doubt it.
All this to say this show has been a genuinely huge part of my life for six years. SIX YEARS. I graduated college, my God. I wish I could say I became a millionaire or a successful author in that time, but nah. Maybe one day, but for now I’m just kind of vibing. And unfortunately, I’ll have to vibe without Riverdale from now on.
But as I sit myself down to watch the very last episode of this show, I remind myself that we’ll always have the memories. And I’ll always be an unapologetic Riverdale enjoyer. As a great man once said, snakes don’t shed their skins so easily.

rejected riverdale fic ideas
sam and dean winchester hear about the gargoyle king and assume he must be supernatural and spend three weeks chasing a sentient teleporting pile of sticks around the woods before figuring out it's not actually teleporting there's just like 6 different people all concurrently wearing the costume and murdering people
the teen wolf gang take a vacation in riverdale and get trapped in the town's temporal vortex (personally I like to think of it as the timehole but many disagree) and have to figure out how to escape
chose your own adventure fic where you have to stop archie from becoming aware that he's in a fictional narrative and going on a murder spree (again)
jughead jones makes a deal with bill cipher and unleashes weirdmageddon and the gang have to defeat him
the gang discover FP made a deal with bill cipher and unleashed weirdmageddon years ago and that's why riverdale is Like That. no one defeats him, they figure out the mystery and then just go on with their lives because they're all used to it
betty cooper and hannibal lecter team up to fight the trashbag killer
instead of going to hell when he dies, dean winchester accidentally takes a wrong turn and ends up in the great big diner in the sky, riverdale's canonical afterlife, and cas has to figure out how to get him back before someone notices that he lost the michael sword
the same except it happens instead of going to purgatory rather than hell, and benny is the new line cook at pops. he's still a vampire. this is never explained.
instead of whitby, dracula lands in riverdale and the gang have to stop him lucy westernra-ing cheryl
betty the vampire slayer
a tokyo ghoul fusion where it's revealed that half the cast are man-eating monsters disguised as humans. surprisingly little changes except that they resolve the farm plotline by eating edgar evernever.
cheryl's parents are revealled to be hydra agents and they try to use the winter soldier to assassinate hiram lodge but the power of friendship and milkshakes restores bucky's memories
mystery inc investigate the gargoyle king and reveal him to be clifford blossom after a series of light-hearted slapstick chase scenes. the riverdale gang are fully aware that mystery inc are opperating on cartoon logic, and are deeply disturbed by this
instead of washington, warlock's parents move to riverdale, and aziraphale and crowly have to live there while they co-parent the antichrist. (they both notice that tabith is an angel but assume she is aware of this and are much too polite to mention it to her)
cheryl blossom joins the x-men
cheryl blossom joins the brotherhood of evil mutants
toni topaz is given the outsider's mark after empress cheryl is murdered and must rescue britta from the loyalist conspiracy
betty is recruited to the beareau of control
the doctor visits riverdale and reveals that it's actually one of the time war battlefields, hence the timehole, and the gang are all daleks, except reggie, who is a timelord
Cheryl's russian spy parents open a gateway to the upsidedown in the palladium mines under riverdale and unleash a demogorgon on the town
archie is superman and veronica is lex luthor and riverdale is smallville
the entire show is revealed to be evelyn evernever's dream, and also evelyn is confirmed to exst in the tommy westphall universe
what if riverdale but a harem anime
archie is bella swan and veronica and betty are edward and jacob.(jughead is alice. obviously).
stranger things except instead of the upsidedown the dimensional gateways open onto rivervale
just the show loki except instead of the junkyard people the tva pruned go to riverdale. richard e grant loki becomes the new principle at the high school
after archie becomes aware that he's in a fictional narrative, he gains the ability to enter the white space between comics pannels and joins the x-statix
jughead is revealed to be entirely in archie's head, ala fight club
inception fusion where archie and the gang have to go inside hiram's mind to convince him not to bulldoze riverdale to make way for more paladium mines
dilton doily moves to nightvale to work with carlos the scientist and finds to surprisingly peaceful
regency au where alice cooper has to find respectable husbands for betty polly and ethel before anyone finds out about her husband being a serial killer and they become socially ruined

he family of civil rights leader Malcolm X marked the anniversary of his 1965 assassination on Tuesday by announcing plans to sue the FBI, New York Police Department, and CIA for $100 million, claiming they concealed evidence related to his murder.
For more than half a century, the circumstances surrounding the notorious assassination have been shrouded in mystery, fueling long-held conspiracy theories about possible government involvement. Two men who were convicted of murdering Malcolm X in 1966 were exonerated in 2021 after serving decades in prison—and the New York District Attorney admitted that the FBI and NYPD at the time withheld evidence.
“For years, our family has fought for the truth to come to light concerning his murder,” Ilyasah Shabazz, a daughter of Malcolm X, said at a news conference at the site of her father’s assassination, which is now a memorial.
The civil rights leader was 39 when he was assassinated in 1965 at an auditorium in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Three gunmen shot at least 21 times, as Malcolm X’s four children and pregnant wife ducked for safety.
At the news conference on Tuesday, civil rights lawyer Ben Crump said: “It’s not just about the triggermen. It’s about those who conspired with the triggermen to do this dastardly deed.” He claims that government agencies had factual and exculpatory evidence that they concealed from the family of Malcolm X and the men wrongly convicted of his assassination. Crump alleged that high-ranking U.S. officials conspired to kill the civil rights leader, repeatedly referencing J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI director who died in 1972.

What we know about Malcolm X’s assassination
Malcolm X was a controversial figure for many Americans—both white and Black. Unflinching when it came to calling out the realities of anti-Black racism, and famously referring to white people as “blue-eyed devils,” he spoke about the need for Black empowerment. He argued for the creation of a Black separatist society, and was a highly visible figure within the Nation of Islam.
In March 1964, Malcolm X announced that he was leaving the Nation of Islam over disagreements with Elijah Muhammad, the group’s leader. He was assassinated a year later as he was preparing to give a speech about the mission of his new group, the Organization of Afro-American Unity, at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City on Feb. 21, 1965.
When Malcolm X took the stage to begin his address, an apparent dispute broke out among the audience and a man ran onto the stage, approached Malcolm X and shot him. Two other people then ran up to the stage and also fired. The civil rights leader was shot a total of 21 times.
What we know about the men convicted of his murder
In the more than half a century since his death, what actually happened that day has remained the subject of controversy and conspiracy theories. One man who was shot by a bodyguard and captured, Thomas Hagan (a.k.a Talmadge Hayer and Mujahid Abdul Halim), confessed to the killing and was imprisoned for 44 years. But since his 1966 trial, he has maintained that the other two Nation of Islam members convicted in the murder were innocent: Norman Butler (a.k.a Muhammad Abdul Aziz) and Thomas Johnson (a.k.a Khalil Islam). Hayer did not name any other culprits at the time of the trial.
There was no evidence linking Butler or Johnson to the crime. Butler had an alibi for the time of the murder: He was at home resting after injuring his leg, and a doctor who had treated him took the stand during the trial. Nonetheless, all three men were found guilty in 1966 and sentenced to life in prison.
In 1977, Hayer named four men who were members of the Nation of Islam’s Newark chapter who he said had begun planning Malcolm X’s murder in May 1964. He said that he was approached by two of the four men, who told him that Malcolm X should be killed. They later met with the other two men and discussed how they would commit the assassination, he said.
“I had a bit of love and admiration for [Nation of Islam leader] the Honorable Elijah Muhammed, and I just felt that like this is something that I have to stand up for,” Hayer later said, according to Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, a 2011 biography of Malcolm X written by historian Manning Marable.
But for decades, the new information about the other four alleged conspirators went nowhere. The District Attorney’s office did not reopen the investigation until a 2020 Netflix documentary series Who Killed Malcolm X? and efforts by the Innocence Project renewed public interest in the case and prompted Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to review the convictions.
Evidence unearthed by Abdur-Rahman Muhammad, a Malcolm X historian and scholar, and investigative journalist Les Payne made a compelling case that the actual killers were members of a Newark mosque, rather than Malcolm X’s former Harlem mosque associates Butler and Johnson. In November, a judge dismissed the convictions of Butler and Johnson after Vance acknowledged that “it was clear these men did not receive a fair trial.” New York City was ordered to pay $26 million to the pair to compensate them for their wrongful murder convictions.
What we know about theories about allegations of CIA and FBI involvement
In addition to the unfair trial, some historians have argued that various agencies including the FBI, NYPD, and CIA were actively involved in the assassination attempt. Experts have said that these agencies viewed Malcolm X as a dangerous Black radical figure who needed to be brought down. Others have suggested that they did not need to plot to murder him since he was already a target.
Nonetheless, Malcolm X was under near-constant surveillance by federal and local authorities—as were many civil rights activists. The FBI first opened a file on Malcolm X in March 1953, and closely monitored him over the next decade using surveillance and informants. On June 6, 1964, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover sent a telegram, which later became public, to the FBI office in New York City that said “do something about Malcolm X.”
“Both the NYPD and FBI failed to disclose to prosecutors that they had undercover officers on the scene,” historian Zaheer Ali, the lead researcher for Marable’s biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, wrote for TIME in November 2021. “They decided instead to protect their assets; there seemed to be a desire to wrap up the investigation quickly. What paths of inquiry were avoided or cut short as a result? If these two men were unjustly convicted, then who else was unjustly allowed to roam free?”
Crump, the lawyer representing Malcolm X’s family, said on Tuesday that their lawsuit will allege that government agencies were involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Malcolm X. The New York District Attorney’s office has already acknowledged law enforcement’s failings in the case, saying in 2021 that the FBI and NYPD did not honor their obligation to disclose exculpatory evidence to prosecutors and the accused, including “information that implicated other suspects; that identified witnesses who failed to identify defendant Islam; and that revealed witnesses to be FBI informants.” The office also said at the time that FBI records suggested “that information was deliberately withheld.”
According to Crump, these comments from the New York District Attorney’s office—combined with the city’s $26 million settlement—are what opened the door for Malcolm X’s family to build a case against authorities. “If the government compensated the two gentlemen that were wrongfully convicted for the assassination of Malcolm X with tens of millions of dollars, then what is to be the compensation for the daughters who suffered the most from the assassination of Malcolm X?” Crump asked.

i would just like to point out...
that oliver has been telling that "acting since age 6/home alone sequel" story for at least 10 years.
inspired by the anon who asked for older interviews, here's an interview from 2012:
The handsome young actor explains how he’s happy to be a hunk... for now.
There are worse things in life than being called a “hot British hunk”. It’s the tag that American pundits have pinned on Oliver Jackson-Cohen following his appearances in a pair of rom-coms, Going The Distance and What’s Your Number, and the Dwayne Johnson action vehicle Faster. “Everyone gets put into a box to a certain extent,” shrugs the 25-year-old Londoner – the son of fashion designer Betty Jackson, though he doesn’t want to make a song and dance about it. “You have to prove yourself at the beginning of your career, and it’s going to take me a while to do that. If that’s how they want to cast me, cast away…”
And that’s what they’re doing. Jackson-Cohen will soon be seen as an inquisitive Baltimore cop in The Raven, a broody thriller from V For Vendetta director James McTeigue that fictionalises the last five days in the life of Edgar Allen Poe. And he’s just returned from six months in Budapest, where he filmed a starring role as “a complete and utter bastard” in the big-budget medieval miniseries World Without End.
Jackson-Cohen caught the acting bug early, although he buries the notion that he was inspired on the set of Absolutely Fabulous – his mum concocted Patsy Stone’s de trop look. “I announced it to my parents when I was six years old and I just made sure that I was not good at anything else.” With those handsome features, Jackson-Cohen could undoubtedly be landing some lucrative modelling gigs too but, although he’s had offers, he’s determined not to go down that road. “I’ve stuck by that rule, stupidly sometimes, because I just feel that’s not me,” he says, adding with a throaty laugh, “cut to my face on some massive billboard!”

our boy is nothing if not consistent!

Can I just bring attention to how lonely Betty is right now??
That scene where is Edgar Evernever is asking her to join the farm. Was truly heartbreaking.
Betty has almost no support system right now that the audience can visibly see. Jughead has had some serious family drama the last few episodes (which is fine, but we have seen only a few times were Juggy has been able to support Betty on screen). Archie and his boxing storyline. Veronica and her mob storyline. Although, I am thankful that Betty has been bouncing between her and Juggy’s place.
But Edgar wasn’t wrong. Everyone else besides the core four that mattered to her were in that room. Her dad was in prison. For trying to kill her. Yes, Betty was turning to him. BUT ONLY BECAUSE SHE HAS NO ONE ELSE.
Her mom -Farmie
Her sister -Farmie
Her “best friend”, Kevin -Farmie
Her cousin, Cheryl - Farmie
Her niece -gonna be raised a Farmie
(To say nothing of Toni, Fangs, and her school principle)
These people...now all know her secrets. They all know about chic and the dead body and everything else that her mother told the farm about her. Such an ultimate betrayal.
So, when Edgar Evernever was persuading Betty to join. It’s like he knew how weakened she was. How vulnerable she was. He wanted to capitalize on that, just as how he capitalized on the loneliness of all the other characters in that room.
He was basically saying “join us and you can have your family back”. And Betty. Wants her family.
Then, when you see her almost give in...it’s truly such a moment. It would be so easy for Betty to just give in and join. It would be so easy for Betty to let everything go and be with her mom and sister.
But Betty doesn’t give in. That is just how powerful of a person Betty is. She is being offered a home, her family, her friends. But she knows that there is something seriously wrong with the farm (I mean all the characters should have known that when they found out Evelyn was a 26 year old posing as a 17 year old married to a 35+ something year old)
Anyway, I don’t know why Edgar is honing in on getting Betty to join. I don’t know what’s gonna happen to her at school when Edgar gave his Farmies an order to “catch her”. What does he plan to do once he catches her? Force her into a baptism where she drowns and no one helps her like she did with her mom. I truly don’t know
If Hal is dead. I truly worry about Betty. I hope the writers realize that the Farm story is probably the most intriguing story line this season and will maybe give Betty some more support.
I don’t know if it was a choice to isolate the core four from one another this season, but it feels like it. I am not saying that they aren’t involved with one another at all. It’s just they truly have so many other things happening in each of their lives right now. How can they be a good support for one another?
End of rant

I am only interested in Betty and Jughead‘s storyline and they are the only characters that get shit done while everyone else is pretending G&G and a crazy sect that wants to brain wash everyone in Riverdale don’t exist.

It’s that time again where I break down the preview for next week’s episode frame by frame
Tumblr media
So it looks like Betty’s dad went shopping for her? The note she’s holding reads “Betty - - Please wear this to dinner. We are awaiting you downstairs.” So that suggests she’s in a multi-level building? I don’t know if she’d still be at the farm? If she is that means BH or GK was able to get in unnoticed. Creepy.
Tumblr media
Later we see the core four walk up to six cups? So maybe they’ll be playing with Hal and GK? Or maybe Ricky will make a final appearance?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So whoever Archie is hitting, I bet it’s not Hal. Hal was seen without gloves pretty early in the trailer. So Archie is probs fighting GK. And that’s Betty holding the gun, so we know she’ll shoot (or at least shoot at) someone. My money is her on her dad.
Tumblr media
Also, I know Ethel said GK was Jason Blossom. But hear me out, what if it’s Chic? We never actually saw Chic die, we only saw BH chase after him. So maybe that’s when they started working together? Maybe Chic died his hair and started playing the part of Jason? I just don’t think it can really be Jason after we had video of Clifford shooting him, Clifford dying by suicide after getting caught, FP and Joaquin disposing of Jason’s body, and then Kevin and Moose finding Jason’s body after it washed up in the river. But then again I would not be surprise if they wrote magic into this series too. Ugh.
- - -
Now let’s go to Cheryl, it looks like she’s having a pretty rough night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think she’ll go to save Kevin and Fangs and they’ll turn her in like they did to Betty. #Bitches
Tumblr media
And then Toni is seen running away from Nana Blossom and a couple people with a pickup truck? I can’t even guess what is happening here... but I’m sure it’s all connected. Nana mentions something about a hunt? And Edgar mentions “acension” to Alice so I’m sure he’ll have some connection to GK.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk — comment theories? I’d love to discuss.

Why do I have the feeling that the Farm is gonna pull a Jonestown.
The talk of ascending makes me think there’s gonna be a mass suicide. Where they could drink fresh aide and pull a Jonestown. Or it could not happen, its Riverdale you never know. But just getting that vibe or he could poison certain people in the farm, and let others live? Any thoughts???
