Console Fighting Games of 1998 - Ehrgeiz God Bless the Ring
Ehrgeiz God Bless the Ring is a fighting game from the Tobal series creators Dream Factory and co-developed by Squaresoft. Ehrgeiz is a mixed fighting-style game with both close-quarters fighters and ranged fighters on the roster.
Ehrgeiz used a similar fighting system to Bushido Blade with attack height as the basis for combat with buttons corresponding to low, medium and high attacks, and guarding for low and high attacks.
The roster is a varied bunch from martial artists to weapon-wielding fighters and a smattering of Final Fantasy VII characters thrown in as well, with Sephiroth, Cloud and Tifa available from the start and Red XIII, Vincent and Yuffie unlockable.
Ehrgeiz God Bless the Ring was released in Arcades and on the PlayStation in 1998, with a release on PlayStation in Japan in 1998. A US release of the game would follow in 1999, while Europe had to wait until February of 2000 for the game to be released.

Super early 3D Zack from 1998. Probably the only version of him with "realistic" proportions until Crisis Core in 2007. Check out those powerful legs! (Bonus scrungly Cloud)
