Mapas, histórias: uma oficina-percurso pelo Largo da Batata

O que "desdobrar o mapa" significa para você?

Caminhar para perceber a cidade, traduzindo essas impressões em uma publicação, é a ideia de uma oficina que ocorre no próximo sábado (16) no Sesc Pinheiros, enfocando no entorno dali, a região do Largo da Batata.

Ministrada pelas artistas Grace Helmer, britânica, e Vânia Medeiros, baiana residente em São Paulo há uma década, a atividade é parte da Programação Cartográfica que integra a FestA! — evento do Sesc cheio de aulas, oficinas, workshops variados, gratuitos, nas diversas unidades, entre 15 e 24 de março.

"Desdobrar o mapa quer dizer também entender o que está acontecendo com aquele espaço, tentar resgatar o que alguns pontos daquele lugar significam para as pessoas e ver outras camadas de leituras, porque teve uma transformação muito grande ali nos últimos tempos", conta a curadora Bebel Abreu, da Mandacaru Design.

Artista interessada nas narrativas urbanas, Vânia Medeiros explica que a ideia de mapa que ela busca trabalhar em uma oficina como esta se conecta com a visão do [filósofo francês] Gilles Deleuze, de cartografia como método, "na qual você vai buscando o seu objeto no próprio ato de pesquisar".

"Fazer uma cartografia daquela região se deixando afetar pelo espaço. Buscar um interesse por desenho que não é da virtuose, do estético, e sim experimentar situações de desenho", diz ela.

A oficina que vai incluir o percurso pela região terá 25 participantes. Dali, sairão sete que participarão de uma residência de três dias. "A gente vai fazer um grande mapa coletivo como resultado da oficina, e uma publicação como resultado da residência, que vai contar com esse mapa coletivo e o mapa pessoal de cada um dos sete artistas", explica Bebel. A distribuição do livro vai ser gratuita no lançamento, no dia 23 de março.

A Programação Cartográfica da qual a oficina faz parte vai contar ainda com uma leitura de portfólio na Casa IdeaFixa (dia 18), o lançamento de "Quando Presto Atenção" (dia 17), livro sobre o Rio nos detalhes de Georgia Barcellos, e uma feira bem especial (dias 16 e 17) no Sesc Pinheiros, cheia de publicações que abordam a ideia de mapas e cartografias possíveis. Entre elas, por exemplo, está o Guia Fantástico de São Paulo sobre o qual já falamos aqui, trabalhos de Barbara Malagoli, Conspire Edições, editoras La Tosca, Sê-lo (com o "Entrelinhas Urbanas"), Tereza vale a pena, Banca Tatuí, editoras Lote 42 e Bebel Books, além de livros da Elcaf (East London Comics and Arts Fest), parceira do evento, que tem apoio do British Council.

"Vai ser uma grande chance de encontrar publicações que não existem aqui. Mapas, percursos, pertencimento, viagem, é bem amplo: vai de mapa astral até mapa de cidades", conta Bebel.

When I’m Gone; I’m Going

This graphic novel will be sold in ELCAF on 7 June then online. Being the first graphic novel i’ve ever done, it was really quite a journey and I hope the story touches some of you.
