remember how people kept mistaking Lizzie for Jimmy last session when she was invisible on the horse? Because they couldn’t SEE or HEAR her so they couldn’t tell it wasn’t him? And then also if Jimmy never killed her, he would’ve been out first? oh yeah. It’s all coming together

i realize how heavily political the story gets after the first book. And I just feel so sorry for Eragon
like that poor idiot only picked up the dragon egg because he wanted a shiny stone. boy just wanted a cool rock. now he is sitting with kings and leaders of the biggest rebellion in history and realizing he is a wild card and everyone is probably manipulating him, he has a chronic pain and also a really sexy sorceress tried to fuck him earlier but his dragon didn't consent
i want to send him home to play with dirt again

Eragon and Saphira facing Murtagh and Thorn on the Burning Planes 🫠
I remember this used to be one of my favourite moments when I was younger. I used to reread this and a couple of other moments obsessively 😅

I was telling my sister about Titans, and she was like, “the whole Bruce/Dick/Jason storyline is like the prodigal son story, with the older and younger brothers' positions switched,” and I was like ohhhh???
#bruce is a VERY imperfect substitute for God the Father but CONSIDER the older brother — the heir#takes his inheritance (his supersuit and tech and weapons and porche)#and leaves telling his dad not to contact him#and the younger son receives everything that once belonged to his older brother#knowing how fortunate he is while also having to constantly hear ‘your brother did it this way’ ‘your brother was better at this’#all the whole looking up to his absent brother as his hero#he goes to meet his older brother while he is away and is met with a barrage of ‘our father doesn’t care about you or me’#‘our father will destroy you to accomplish his own ends’#‘no you don’t really know him — *I* know him’#‘being the eldest son isn’t an honour at all its a curse’#and THEN a little while later that same older brother returns and is welcomed home with open arms#their father gives EVERYTHING back to his oldest#ALL the privileges and love and honour and money and even a new supersuit#all is forgiven and given back in full — more than in full#and that’s wonderful and beautiful but what is the younger brothers perspective?#and THEN their father gives the younger brother into the older brothers care#‘go see how your older brother does it and then come back to me’#so he feels cast off by his father#and his older brother barely pays him any attention being preoccupied with his own issues#although he never abandoned their father and always did everything he was asked it’s his older brother who receives all the praise#after being beaten down again and again he finally returns to his father#and is welcomed but not with nearly as much fanfare as when his older brother returned#what is that going to do to him???#titans#titans tv show#titans tv#jason todd#dick grayson#bruce wayne#the prodigal son

i ALWAYS want more details
one of the things i love so much about The inheritance cycle is the DETAILS, i can dig so DEEP. i want to be able to read your books and just sit here thinking about them. i love thinking about history and learning all the words in the ancient language, ITS SO FUN. one of my favorite things is when i figured out a bit of the grammar structure of the ancient language, (the adjective is after the noun ie. Du Vrangr Gata is wrong it actually should be Du Vrangr Gata, the path wandering)
i know i'm a nerd for this but that just mean im paolinis exact target audience

currently trying to think if I remember any situations in Jin Yong wuxia where a family preferred sons over daughters (especially as like, a socially mandated thing) and coming up short.
Like I think there are plenty of situations where powerful men/families/sects only have one child and that child is a daughter. And this is neither weird, highly remarked upon, or considered odd in any way. Nor is anyone feeling pressed to come up with a son in the future.
Ren Yingying from XAJH, Yue Lingshan from XAJH, Huang Rong from LOCH, Guo Fu (from ROCH) for a good portion of her life (16 years of it, also Guo Fu wasn't displaced bc one of the twins was a boy, NOR were her parents trying to have more children on purpose), Yang Guo and XLN's daughter from ROCH/HSDS, Gongsun Lu'e from ROCH, etc.
Also their status range from like 'extremely important and visible family in the jianghu' to 'actually not all that well known' so it's not just a "well our family is powerful so who gives a fuck" kind of situation.
Like these are male dominated books, there are more men than there are women in Jin Yong's books (there are really cool women in his books though), but there's almost none 'oh no how will a girl inherit!' left beef. The girl will learn martial arts, like it's hard?
I think this is also relatively true of Gu Long books too, so at some points I'm left ??? at the discourse re: inheritance and gender in MDZS fandom bc I don't think it's actively stated anywhere that women aren't supposed to inherit? Or aren't allowed? or are less capable? or that there's a strong societal prejudice against it? Just. It's a danmei so most of these positions are occupied by men. Like, there are maybe five whole women and even less among the juniors. Who and how and why will they inherit if they don't exist.
