Matt Taylor formed Plastic Bubble in 2012 as a vehicle for the indie psych pop material he was recording at home with a rotating cast of friends in Louisville, KY. After spending early adulthood in early 2000's Athens, GA and kicking around the fringes of the Elephant 6 scene, Taylor eventually relocated to Louisville in his home state of Kentucky and performed with a more traditional guitar-based indie rock outfit for a few years before returning to an insular home-recording world with no discernible plan for how to present his newest compositions to the world. Midway through assembling their debut album Treble Treasure Chest, Plastic Bubble evolved into a proper band and remained so for the completion of that album and sophomore release Big Day Parade (Jigsaw Records/Hope For The Tape Deck). Amidst a relocation to Lexington, KY and subsequent life changes, Plastic Bubble shifted back into a recording entity centered around the compositions of Matt Taylor and Elisa McCabe. Their upcoming album in progress (tentatively titled Enchance) includes cameos from multiple Elephant 6 personalities and regulars from the Louisville and Lexington music scenes. Another anniversary! This time it’s Neutral Milk Hotel’s debut LP “On Avery Island”, which turns 25 years old today. This is the reissue from the box set, which annoyingly has different cover art. HUGE fuckin’ pet peeve of mine. Oh well. While this is not as good as ITAOTS, it’s still pretty good. This is the first I’ve listened to this in quite awhile. Jeff Mangum is 50 years old today! This record is perfect. I haven’t listened to it in a couple years. It was amazing getting to see both The Olivia Tremor Control (New York City) and a solo Jeff Mangum show (York, PA) in my lifetime, but never got to see a Neutral Milk Hotel show, unfortunately.
