I got this reissue of Spiritualized’s first record “Lazer Guided Melodies” on white vinyl in the mail last week. This is the first I’m spinning it. It sounds amazing. My only issue with it is the changed artwork, and it looks like they’re gonna do the same thing for the upcoming reissue of “Pure Phase” as well. Such a bummer, but the remastering on this really is PERFECT. Death Grips’ debut mixtape “Exmilitary” dropped as a free download ten years ago today. Any physical release is a bootleg, I believe. Weird, experimental hip-hop featuring Zach Hill from Hella on drums/production. I never liked any of their official records; only this one. Includes tons of interesting samples including Link Wray, Beastie Boys, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Arthur Brown and much more. Best track for me is “Takyon (Death Yon)” which samples Bad Brains. Today is the fifth anniversary of The Comet is Coming’s debut full-length “Channel the Spirits”. Amazing jazz-fusion, electronic, psychedelic funkiness. Today is the 30th anniversary of Slint’s amazing second LP “Spiderland”. This is one of the best indie rock records of all-time. This is the remastered version from that big ass limited edition, signed box set they put out like 6 years ago. It sounds so much better than the CD I had twenty-some years ago. Touch & Go could pretty much do no wrong back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. So many bangers! This might be at the top of the heap though. The new Tomahawk record “Tonic Immobility” arrived a couple days early. Ipecac sometimes has pretty crappy presses and packaging for their vinyl releases, but this one is excellent. The new Writhing Squares double LP “Chart For the Solution” arrived in the mail this morning. I’ve been waiting to hear this one for weeks!
