Elior crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Besides, I didn't want to intrude."

Now it was Derian who looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"You much more prefer spending your time here with Ardes so I thought you two would rather go out on your own. I didn't want to force myself on you, now that you gained your freedom and I thought... I thought you have found someone you like more." He averted his gaze.

"What are you talking about?" Derian sounded appalled. "I have waited the whole time but barely saw or heard anything from you. At the beginning I understood that you needed some space after everything that had happened but by now I have the impression that you don't feel the same as I do."

Startled, Elior looked at him. "How do you mean that?"

Derian's shoulders were carried low and his gaze was blurred by the tears pooling in his dark eyes. "I love you, Elior."

Probably a bit late for a Saturday, but do the names in your WIP have a meaning? If yes, which? :D

(It still arrived on a Saturday sooo.... xD)

They do but that's usually not my main reason to choose a name! Although I'm always happy to see that the meaning of a name I like fits the character 👀

For Tenebris (since I don't have many names for Bleeding City yet):

Kendra could mean something like "royal ruler/power" (fun fact that I only later realized: Elior calls her Kenna when he's still a toddler which means "the one born from fire" or "the beautiful/pretty one" and it's just... coincidentally so perfect!!!)

Elior means "God is my light" (which is kinda funny bc he got adopted by the second most powerful being of the underworld)

Ravenna was actually mainly chosen bc of the meaning which is "raven (girl)"

Same with Calore (who wasn't planned to be such a major character). It's latin for "ember" or "heat" (bc of her red fur)

I thought Derian meant something like "ruler" but I only find "luxury good", "small rocky hill" and "gracious defender" now 🤔😂

Bonus: Arun means "sun", "dawn" and all tje colors connected with it.

Thank you for the ask!! I think I'll answer this for both pairings since I love talking/thinking about Elior and Derian and still need to figure out the details for Noa's and Corin's relationship xD

Elior + Derian:

Elior was basically lovestruck at first sight (though he didn't know what those feelings meant since he's never been in love before). For Derian it was more like 'what a cute guy' and a fun little flirt in the beginning.

So yeah, for Elior Derian was his first everything. For Derian on the other hand... I think Elior was his first real/serious relationship (that he also wanted and wasn't forced onto him).

They became really cuddly once they figured out that their feelings were requited. But Derian has a lot of trauma regarding homophobia so he doesn't feel comfortable showing/receiving affection in public (not even when it's only Kendra or (one of) the others that's present even though they've made it clear that they couldn't care less that they're two guys).

No pets in this life :,) (although they would be amazing pet parents).

Noa + Corin:

Corin for sure. Noa needs quite a bit to develop those feelings.

Hmmm good question xD Corin definitely has more experience than Noa but I'm pretty sure that he never had a relationship that lasted longer than a few weeks (mostly because of his background that scares everyone away). So, relationship wise I can't think of a first for any of them.

It gets more over time. Corin is a very touchy person who shows his affection with physical touch while Noa doesn't like to be touched most of the time/only by people she has a deep connection with.

Nope (I imagine it kinda hard to take care of a pet while on the run lol but maybe one day...?).

Writing the scenes between Elior and Derian made me realize how much I enjoy writing/reading romance.

And that the biggest problem I have with most romance is that it oftentimes gets too sexual for my taste.

WIP Intro - TENEBRIS

“She felt the blood slowly trickling down her body even though her scars had already closed back up. On the spur of the moment she took off her coat that had remained mostly untouched by the blood and wrapped it around the tiny human. This would be the first and last human emotion she would ever allow herself, she swore and with the little creature in her arms she strode out of the village.”

Genre: High fantasy

Setting: a fantasy world that is split in three parts - the underworld called Tenebris, the heavens called Claritas and the Upperworld where the living are

Tropes: found family, star-crossed lovers, hurt-comfort, borrowed time, doomed by the narrative

Summary: On her way in the Upperworld to undo a devastating mistake that escaped into the human world Kendra finds a badly injured orphan. Despite all her principles and revulsion towards humanity - and children - she takes it with her to save his life. What she doesn’t know at this point is the immense impact that his life will have on her and how deeply intertwined his fate is with hers.

Content warnings: violence (physical and mental), blood, death, homophobia

This week I'm continuing my quest to get to know people's OCs better!

If you had to pick an OC to represent each of the seven deadly sins, which OC would represent each, and why?

Oooh, interesting question! I hope it doesn't count as cheating when I pick a few characters that actually represent those sins in universe lmao. (For context: In Tenebris each of the souls turned into Tenebrians belong to one of the seven sins which is represented in their powers. There's also one Archtenebrian (?) as the representative for theirs.)

Lust: Phila. The first time she visited the Upperworld she didn't know how to deal with her powers (which are making people feel lustful/attracted to her)

Gluttony: I don't really have one that fits that...

Greed: Pharlea. She's greedy for knowledge (I guess her moral alignment would be chaotic neutral bc she doesn't really care what happens to others as long as she achieves her goals but she respects boundaries set by authorities to some degree)

Sloth: Maybe the prince of Fengrad. He just seems like a lazy person who only does what he has to and let's other people do everything else.

Wrath: Kendra. We had her initially planned as the Archtenebrian for Wrath and I think that's still very obvious in her character.

Envy: Hmm, there's really only one part where someone is jealous that I can think of and that's when Elior thinks Derian likes another guy more bc he spends more times with him.

Pride: Ravenna. She gets really irritated when someone hurts her or Kendra's pride.

As I get closer to finishing my current WIP's first draft, I'm having trouble dealing with the large amount of exposition I need to do before the end. Have you ever run into this problem? How did you deal with it? What's the best way to handle exposition, in your opinion?

Hey, Tiss!! ^-^ So sorry for letting your asks gather dust in my inbox!

Exposition is about providing background info, right?

I always feel like I have so much stuff I wanna tell about the world and the characters that never finds a place where I can tell it.

For me I think it depends on what it is. Usually I try to kinda weave it into the story so it's not just one block of infodumping. Maybe characters talking about it bc one of them asked something and the other explains it but in a way where there's an interaction, ya know? Kinda like: [Question about topic] [Vaguely answers question] [Reaction, more questions] [starts getting into detail while the other character reacts] (also maybe describing what's going on around them, describing the scene, their expressions etc, but not so much that it distracts)

Sometimes when it's just too much I make it so it feels like a mini story inside the big story. There's a chapter where Kendra tells Elior and Derian her and Ravenna's story and starts with how the world came into existence. So it's her telling a story and there are no interruptions.

I think it's about finding the right way that fits your story, your style and your characters. And I think it's important that it fits into the flow of your story, that you don't put it there forcefully.

I don't know if that helped even a little bit, when it comes to writing I just write what and how it feels best so I struggle a bit with giving advice. '^^

Calore showed up for the adventure, stayed for her beloveds.

Elior showed up for the Life, stayed for the Love.

Derian showed up for the cutiepie, stayed for the acceptance and freedom.

I can definitely see Calore (from Tenebris) having a tumblr blog where she posts gentle reminders and photos of pretty sunsets and baby horses haha. If they were okay with it, she'd also probably post pictures of Elior and Derian (bc she loves them so much and is so proud of them!! She wouldn't even have to ask Kendra to post photos of her though bc the answer would be a hard No xD).

I could also see Kjell (from Aeternum) having an account to share his photos from his trips but he'd prefer Instagram.

And to throw someone from Bleeding City in, too: maybe Corin? He has ADHD and there probably wouldn't really be a theme, he'd just reblog stuff he's currently into and what piques his fancy and throw in the random shitpost like "do you think vampires would prefer eating hotdogs with blood instead of ketchup?" [him reblogging it sometime later:] "don't do it. Blood's too runny and you'll get it all over your hands. Ask me how I know"

First of all: *inhales* I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AHHHHH

Okay now we can start lmao

So Kendra finds him as a tiny baby in a raided and burnt down village after she killed all the raiders and consumed their souls. How did she find him? His bright white soul, brighter than any soul she's ever seen on earth, flickers as it's trying to cling to his dying body.

So yeah, he has a very pure soul and pretty much keeps it like that throughout his whole life. He's just a sweet little angel (not literally lol). He's generally very curious about everything and loves learning new things or seeing new places. Kendra (and Ravenna, too) taught him a lot including several languages and self defense but also respecting every creature as equal.

Most of the time he's a pretty chill dude who doesn't like conflict BUT he can't stand injustice, it's one of the very few things that enrage him (one time he 'accidentally' ran into a man who was after a painfully thin boy who stole a fruit from his stand so that he lost him in the crowd).

But since he was raised by Kendra and Ravenna who are Tenebris he didn't really have a lot of contact with humans so he never really learned like, societal expectations and such, only from watching humans when their travels led them through towns and such. For example, when Derian was scared about others seeing the two of them being intimate (like holding hands or slow dancing) he just at first didn't know that people could react to that in a bad way and then couldn't understand at all why they would, they're just two humans being in love ya know?? He's seen couples kiss in public before so why is it a problem when they do it? (He still doesn't get it but he knows that it makes Derian very anxious so he tries to adapt for his sake even though he hates it)

I feel like I've gotten a bit off track here so maybe it's time for me to stop xD Thank you so much for the ask!! 💙

- He's just overall Positive Vibes™

- Growing up as a prince it wasn't always easy to stay true to himself and his emotions and some might even say it would've been better for him if he actually didn't

- He's a very tactile person. Like, when I think of Derian I usually also think of his long dainty hands, touching fabrics or the surface of a table (or Elior lol) with his fingertips

- He has the darkest warmest eyes you can imagine
