収穫期を迎えることはないかもしれないが、あなたの一つ一つの行動が種をまいているのです。
With every deed you are sowing a seed, though the harvest you may not see.

“I may not reach the heights I seek, / My untried strength may fail me; / Or, half-way up the mountain peak, / Fierce tempests may assail me.”
The weather is warm and my evenings lazy. My summer job is going well. Not a day goes by that I believe I’m doing everything right, but I wouldn’t be learning anything if I did. I’ll forget the absurdities that crept in as soon as I can. I’m not qualified, but I’m here and I’m trying.
“But though that place I never gain, / Herein lies comfort for my pain— / I will be worthy of it.” —Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Dawn
Day’s sweetest moments are at dawn;
Refreshed by his long sleep, the Light
Kisses the languid lips of Night,
Ere she can rise and hasten on …

In that great journey of the stars through space
About the mighty, all-directing Sun,
The pallid, faithful Moon, has been the one
Companion of the Earth. Her tender face,
Pale with the swift, keen purpose of that race,
Which at Time’s natal hour was first begun,
Shines ever on her lover as they run
And lights his orbit with her silvery smile.
Sometimes such passionate love doth in her rise,
Down from her beaten path she softly slips,
And with her mantle veils the Sun’s bold eyes,
Then in the gloaming finds her lover’s lips.
While far and near the men our world call wise
See only that the Sun is in eclipse.

* * * *
Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone;
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air;
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.
Rejoice, and men will seek you;
Grieve, and they turn and go;
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
Be sad, and you lose them all,—
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
But alone you must drink life’s gall.
Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a large and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.
~Ella Wheeler Wilcox
