OA Theories: The Traveller
POSSIBLE SPOILERS!
Okay so go back and look at the portrait of Nina’s mother in Part 1 Episode 2:New Collossus. Face seems familiar, right?
Elodie says ‘You know’ when Nina asked her who she is.
Nina’s mother died in childbirth in 1987 which gives her plenty of time to have figured out how to travel and answer all of Hap’s questions, the robots, etc...
Tell me if you think I’m onto something here.

OA ... Possible season 2 spoilers sorry
Just had a realisation, maybe the dimension where the characters are all their respective actors, is the dimension where Elodie was a French actress, and she's there as Irène Jacob....

I’ve been hanging w @dirtystahl IRL, watching The OA & theorizing... and we had a breakthrough A-HA moment about the movements & dimension travel!‬
Tumblr media
There is a sound that signifies the possibility of travel: it’s a ringing sound, like tinnitus. You can hear this sound clearly in S02E02 at 7:26 when Hap & the Haptives travel to D2.
We were watching Paradise S01E05 and noticed two times this sound effect was used:
Homer bashes his head against the wall of the shower (29:31)
Renata and Homer climax (41:57)
We know from Elodie in S2 that death is not required in order to travel. All that is required is an offering. And one type of offering is sex.
We think that the tinnitus ringing in S01E05 signifies the potential to travel. Which means that blood or sex is a necessary component to power the movements.
But wait. There’s more.
In S01E05 Homer and Prairie do the movements all night long, and Scott remains dead, until Hap breaks his gums while flossing and starts to bleed. At that moment, Scott starts to revive. Blood was a necessary component. We don’t hear the tinnitus ringing, but that’s ok because there’s a musical soundtrack.
Once again, while Homer and Prairie do the movements over Evelyn in S01E08, Hap has a cut on his forehead, and the blood looks fresh. We don’t hear the tinnitus ringing, but there’s a musical soundtrack again.
Finally, in S02E08, while Steve is doing the movements, he gets a nosebleed before traveling & we hear the tinnitus ringing (3418).
Conclusion 1:
You need to do the movements + you need an offering. Possible offerings are orgasm or blood. Death is not necessary.
Conclusion 2:
When we hear the tinnitus ringing in an episode, that’s a signal from the audio engineers that means “you can activate the movements right now.”
Conclusion 3:
As much as Prairie/OA would hate to admit this, Hap played a key role in Scott’s resurrection, supporting the S02 theme that Hap, OA & Homer are intricately linked

I'm rewatching episode 4 and there is a lot to unpack there, like when Hap is talking with Elodie and she tells him she was an actress in another dimension... how she and that actress were interested in understanding the human condition... like Brit and The OA... and then with that ending! foreshadowing much! And when Homer is talking with his date there is a Black Mirror and Stranger Things reference lol (also someone is eating octopus at the restaurant) I love this show lmao
Another thing, they mention Pyramus and Thisbe to describe Homer and OA relationship, like a sort of star-crossed lovers story witch it makes me sad, maybe they will never be happy together? fuck I need season 3 already

The OA 2x04: SYZYGY
(Trying out a new liveblog format whoo!)
Yaaay creepy dream sequence!
For half a second I thought BBA was gonna be in the, uh, coffin? Then I thought it was Rachel. It was Rachel, I think, until her eyes opened and it was OA.
Are we ever going to address the weird marks on Nina’s forearms? I’m not exactly sure how much time is passing in each episode, but it seems like they should have faded by now if they were normal bruises. As normal as a pattern of uniformly circle bruises on both your forearms can be.
Homer is trying so hard to actually help but he’s not listening. It’s funny watching him get just the slightest bit unsettled when OA knows about things.
“This is Prairie’s fault”—I just want Hap to get slapped.
I feel kind of bad for Karim, because OA is not Nina, so she doesn’t actually know anything about this house Nina owned or what she was involved with at CURI.
Ooh I love this team up. Karim has no idea what he’s just gotten into with OA lmao “I do think logic is overrated.” But I love that he’s just going for it. Like he met this woman .5 seconds ago and is breaking her out of a mental facility.
Omfg that’s right Prairie was blind until after she was kidnapped SHE’S NEVER DRIVEN A CAR AHHH
Who is this woman???
Omfg she’s another traveler?? There ARE other travelers?! So she knows what he is, but does she know WHO he is? What he’s done?
Oof poor Karim. He’s starting to realize Nina knows nothing about this house or the game.
Aww OA recognized Buck 😭
And Karim’s thinking “does talking about yourself in the third person count as serious psychotic behavior?”
Homer is so done with this whole group. But I love Scott talking about how OA’s always got a plan and doesn’t give up on people. Cuz Homer knows, even if he doesn’t know how or why, but he knows that it’s true.
Are those all tapes of the dreams? Her dreams, maybe? Omg they are. Was she the start of the CURI experiment? The one who inspired Ruskin’s work?
THREE Y’S, MAN
Homeboy is going on a date! Why do I have a feeling it will not go well?
Oh what the fuck did they just get into? Or rather, what is Nina into?? What is SYZYGY?
Wow so Elodie’s like...experienced. How many times has she traveled? How many lives has she lived? Wow, wait, there are other methods of traveling? And why did she say “people like him”?
Oh boy, Homer is going to be telling this girl about OA and he’s going to realize something, isn’t he? Okay, the choking on seafood isn’t what I expected, but something happened there.
WOW I love her dress. Hope that counts as “appropriate” for whatever’s gonna happen at the SYZYGY place. And ohhh if that story was about Karim, does that mean that pregnant woman he’s been getting help from is his ex? Like, she wanted a baby and he didn’t, so they broke up, and she found someone who did?
Ooh SYZYGY is an underground Russian nightclub? Love it, but I don’t think that’s the whole story. Lmao she has no idea how to act.
Omfg they’re asking if she wants to be restrained and telling her to say the safe word—which she obviously does not know—I left it can’t tell if this is about to be a science experiment or something kinky. Is she supposed to go into a trance or a dream or something? Travel to another dimension and talk about what she sees?
Ohhhh my fucking god I just remembered the giant octopus. I’ve even seen those gifs online and completely forgot about it. And the octopus knows that OA is not Nina. What the fuuuck. And if she says all of this, Karim’s going to think she’s delusional and not help her anymore—although with the giant telepathic octopus in the background, I don’t know that he’s in a position to doubt a lot.
Well hey, at least he asked for consent. Now what the heck is all of this about a brother? Could it be Steve?? Oh nooo but he killed the octopus.
HOMER IS HERE!!! But WHERE??? Did he actually jump into someone else’s body? Is that even possible? Did AU Homer not leave his body when our Homer entered it?
The episode is going to end with them going through the door, isn’t it? Yeah. Fuck.

Note
Do you think the kids + BBA are part of OA's «echo» the way that Elodie stated that Homer and Hap (ugh) are?
Mmm i personally believe they are, but i’m not 100% sure.
From what i understood: oa, homer, hap (AND also scott, rachel, renata) are all part of the same ‘constellation’ and if BBA+the boys are part of oa’s echo, that means they are part of homer’s too (+hap, etc)
so, to make thinks more clear, i think they are part of the same group and travel all together. Look at the many parallels between some characters (french/homer, buck/rachel, etc). I take that as a sign that they are ‘soul family’, so to speak.

Spoilers for the OA
I can’t remember if that’s the right code for read more. If not I’m sorry djdndnd
Anyway odds on the version of buck/Michelle that karim got to come through to his dimension is actually like. Not the version from his dimension at all and now there’s just a whole other buck in Michelle’s body sjhdksndks like. We saw them wake up and that’s it we have no reason to think the same person came back. I’m assuming the rose window is like a window into every/many dimensions rather than just the one we saw (LOVE the meta real world dimension that were gonna get next season though) bc I think that makes the most sense. So the implication is that Michelle went through the window to some other dimension and left their body like an empty vessel??? That’s interesting bc it’s different to how we’ve seen travelling so far with the old bodies dying. But on that note what is elodie’s deal?? I’m really interested in her as a character and her relationship with travelling. Because when she travelled in front of hap she didn’t die right? She just disappeared. And then she came back to talk to OA in syzygy?? So that goes against the idea of each dimension-hop being a one way trip, and you can’t go back to one you’ve already left because your host died. So I hope that gets elaborated on if she (and anyone using the window) are able to make like. Hops without killing their current host. And also like. What factors into whether travellers keep their current consciousness (everyone except homer in dimension 2, and also Steve and probably hap in dimension 3) or whether they can integrate their consciousnesses together like oa/Nina. Is it just about personalities and willpower? How come hap knew/thought that oa would be suppressed in d3 like how homer was in d2? And why does it happen???
Wow Things. And then there’s Rachel being an interdimensional ghost. I get now why it was only safe for bba to jump because the bodies of French Jesse and Steve were dead in d2, and buck I guess. Just like That. They didn’t really bother accounting for angie I guess bc she’s too minor a character to feature like that. But I guess in d3 all bets are off. And did bba jump?!? I love her as an actress Phyllis something. Because from what I’ve seen like the office and that Cameron Diaz film. Bad teacher? She’s always done like comedy character roles and to see her in a much more serious role is so fun! And she’s really good!! And what about Riz Ahmed (Ahmad? I’m sorry) s FBI character?!?! Who is he??? I initially thought he planted the books to disprove OAs story but then that was explained by prairies dad?!?! Who. Is. He. Gooodbye

Rambling OA thoughts
Finished the OA s1 and 2. The show is a trip. I'm glad I didn't have to wait two years between seasons.
Has anyone discussed why does Jason!Hap have his accent still? Wouldn't Hap suppress Jason and thus speak with his American accent? We saw Nina only having her accent when she was "in charge" and switched back to OAs normal accent when she came out after seeing Scott/French/Steve. Inconsistent writing?
Clearly they can't always die after each jump either. Elodie collapsed/ ended on coma after her jump but came back to the body, so I do wonder if the Crestwood 5 have to carry a comatose Steve around in part 3 (BBA could always pick up where he is I assume?). Will sexy Karim keep investigating the fake Elon Musk/Dr Percy's experiments if the latter is still alive in s3? Would that mean they still have this whole map of dimensions in the basement, waiting to be misused. Actually I'm surprised that Hap would abanfon this all. Much harder as Jason Isaacs to experiment.
Also the brother business...probably doesnt mean actual brother? Karim who actually saved her, Steve who jumped feeling her echo or something (don't think it is him, too obvious), Rahim who was sent to guide/loom out for her (by who?). Who is Elodie - an outsider force to keep balance? (although she said OA isn't ready to receive...whatever that means). Sent by the same force as Rahim? Or by a future OA herself?
Ugh waiting. This show.
