Character Intro: Pandia (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age- 13 (immortal)
Location- Elis, Olympius
Personality- Much like her divine symbol, she's quite strategic in making sure certain things remain obscured in darkness. Responsibility comes naturally to her with being the oldest while being cautious, conscientious, & reliable.
She has the standard abilities of a goddess except shapeshifting. Her other powers/abilities include tidal wave manipulation, umbrakinesis, teleportation (herself & others through natural/"created" moonlight, limited gravitokinesis (gravity manipulation), being able to manipulate moonrock, temporarily being able to cast an illusion of a full moon (lasting five minutes), and menekinesis (the ability to absorb, redirect, & manipulate moonlight and lunar energy). She's significantly weaker during the day & during lunar eclipses. She's at her most powerful during a full moon.
Pandia is the eldest daughter of her parents Selene (Titaness of the moon) & Endymion, an Elian mortal man. Her and her 24 other younger siblings live in the state of Elis. Her bedroom is on the first floor down the hall from her parents. The bedroom has a celestial theme with most of the walls being covered in starry wallpaper. The ceiling has various constellations painted on it with glow in the dark paint which glows silver. There's many string lights strewn about & there's baby monitors on top of her vanity dresser so she can keep an eye on her youngest siblings (that are babies and small toddlers). The flooring is silver mink carpeting.
She's a proud night owl, only catching a few hours of sleep before the morning officially starts. Even though her mom has employed maids, nannies, & night nurses, Pandia likes to sometimes use the time to clean and straighten things around the house. She'll also catch up on homework, watch TV, read, enjoy a late night night swim, or tend to the immortal silver horses that used to pull her mother's majestic chariot. Their names are Lunae & Celeste. If she notices one of her baby sisters fusing on the monitors, Pandia is quick with a wet cloth, warm bottle, or diaper. She'll rock them to sleep while singing soft lullabies.
A go-to drink for her is lavender lotus tea that she brews herself, a cup every morning & night. She also likes blueberry cola, iced tea, and a cup of warm evaporated milk seasoned with cinnamon (that her mom makes). A usual for her from The Roasted Bean is a large blueberry açaí splash. She also likes the cookies n' cream milkshake from The Frozen Spoon.
She sets up several alarms in her room to make sure she gets up in the mornings. Pandia enjoys sleeping in during the weekends well into the late hours of the afternoon most of the time.
Pandia feels like as the oldest, she has a special relationship with her parents. She's happy every time her father has enough energy to push through the lethargic aftereffects of the curse that used to plague him all those years ago. It's as if he becomes a different person- engaged and involved in his daughters' lives. He helps out with their homework, cook, bake, & spend family time at the observatory which is located at the highest level of the mansion. Most of the time when he doesn't have the energy to do much of anything, Pandia will check on him in his bedroom to make sure he has plenty of blankets & a fresh cup of tea or water. She'll sometimes climb into bed to join him watching trashy soap operas. With her mom, Pandia feels like she's often the "other parent" helping Selene with lunches, laundry, homework, and school drop-offs. She can't remember the last time she had one-on-one time with her mom. Pandia does look forward to when she and a few of her other sisters will do embroidery with Selene. Pandia has even designed her own saree (that she'll wear to her aunt's upcoming wedding)- dark blue & shimmery silver silk and satin with swirling patterns of embroidered stars & moons.
Her favorite snack is chocolate pudding. She'll often put crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (that has a creamy white filling) on top!
She always wears a simple gold ring with a moonstone gem at the center on her left pointer finger. Pandia bought it herself with her allowance money online, the brand being Stella Ferrea. Another piece of jewelry she always wears is a necklace that has a full moon charm that was given to her by her mother when Pandia was a baby. It was crafted from Astrean Silver!
She loves the small patsas soup along with a blueberry cucumber salad (topped with feta cheese & toasted pecans; drizzled in teriyaki dressing) from The Bread Box.
Pandia sees herself as the protector of her younger sisters. She may be a little uncompromising & bossy when it comes to her leadership role, but it comes from a place of love. Lately her and some of the older siblings have been having fun choreographing a kathak dance that they're gonna perform after her aunt's wedding at the reception. Pandia loves all her sisters, but finds herself closer at times to Achelois (goddess of the moon & comfort), Cressida (Cress) (goddess of the crescent moon), Esmeray (Esme) (goddess of the half moon), and Mona (goddess of the new moon).
Two of her favorite desserts are her father's baklava and the cookies n' cream rolls from Hollyhock's Bakery.
She's currently on break from school. When it resumes, Pandia will be an eighth grader. At school, she's not exactly antisocial, but she prefers to keep to herself. She speaks to a variety of students & she knows of the other godly kids like Anaideia (goddess of ruthlessness, shamelessness, & unforgiveness), Deucalion, Philia (goddess of friendship), Krysothemis (Kristy), E.B, Thrasos (god of boldness, insolence, recklessness, & courage), Epidotes (god of purity), Telete (goddess of prayers), Thespios (god of acting), and Calocagathia (Aggie) (goddess of nobility & goodness), but Pandia surprisingly doesn't mind the company of Pompe (goddess of rites), especially since she was a BIG help to her when they were partnered up for a project for their religious studies class or Dysis (goddess of the sunset).
Outside of school, Pandia's been getting to know Sereia, a mermaid that lives in the Underwater realm as part of the school's student mail messaging program. They e-mail & video chat twice a week while they also keep in touch through text messaging. Pandia may or may not have a growing crush on her. Recently, Sereia invited her for a week long vacation to the Underwater realm in time for the Blue Moon Festival, but Pandia hasn't asked her mom's permission yet.
Eclipse, Pale Blue, M9, and O are her favorite music artists to listen to. Eclipse's album Insomniac is a frequent repeat.
Her relationship with the rest of her family is fairly good. Pandia has hung out with her cousin Circe (goddess of sorcery) a few times and she has also visited Thrinacia to help tend to her Uncle Helios' farm of immortal oxen & horses to hang out with her other cousins Lampetia and Phaethusa. Even though she adores her "Titi", Pandia feels uneasy about how she really feels about her father when Pandia overheard a conversation her grandparents were having where Theia (Titaness of sight & heavenly light) refered to Endymion as a "hapless bum."
Her TV guilty pleasures are the late night talk show The Godly Hour hosted by Pheme (goddess of fame) & true crime programs hosted by Kakia (goddess of vice & moral wrongdoing).
In the pantheon she obviously dislikes Zeus (god of the sky, thunder, & lightning). Pandia likes and admires Artemis (goddess of the hunt & moon), Nyx (goddess of the night), Hecate (goddess of magic & witchcraft), Urania (muse of astronomy); is a dedicated member of her stargazing club, The Pleiades, Neféloma (goddess of space & dark matter), and Phoebe (Titaness of prophecy, the moon, radiant intellect, & mystery); is a HUGE fan of her mystery novels.
Her grandfather Hyperion (Titan god of heavenly light) bought her the spherical celestial themed jeweled clutch from Diamond Ave. for Pandia's 13th birthday a few weeks ago, which was a festive occassion in Rhodes, complete with a fireworks show!
Her favorite thing to get from Olympic Chef are the BLT loaded fries (covered in a garlic mayo aioli and spicy barbeque sauce).
In her free time Pandia enjoys napping, reading, basketball, watching TV, archery, football (soccer), embroidery, listening to music, stargazing, indoor ice skating, charting constellations, knitting, sewing, and painting.
Her all time favorite meal is her father's skordostoumbi.
"Everyone's a moon. There's a dark side which is always hidden."

A Tapestry of Tradition: The Maharashrian Bride's Saree

A Tapestry of Tradition: The Maharashrian Bride's Saree
The grandeur of an Indian wedding is unparalleled, each ceremony a symphony of vibrant colors, rich traditions, and exquisite attire. In Maharashtra, the heart of Western India, the bride takes center stage adorned in a saree that epitomizes elegance, tradition, and a touch of modern flair. This article delves into the world of the Maharashrian bride's saree, exploring its historical significance, intricate designs, vibrant colors, and the unique elements that make it a symbol of cultural pride.
A Heritage Woven in Silk
The Maharashrian bride's saree, traditionally known as the 'Nauvari Saree', is a testament to the state's rich cultural heritage. Its origins can be traced back to the Maratha Empire, where the saree was a functional and elegant attire for women. The word "Nauvari" signifies its unique draping style - nine yards of fabric elegantly crafted into a graceful ensemble. The fabric of choice, often silk or cotton, exudes a sense of opulence and refinement.
The Art of Draping: A Distinctive Style
The draping style of the Nauvari Saree is one of its most distinctive features, setting it apart from other Indian saree styles. The saree is draped around the waist, creating a tight, almost pant-like effect in the front. The pallu (unstitched end) is then intricately draped over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder bare. This unique style is believed to have evolved from the practical needs of Maratha women, allowing for ease of movement and freedom while engaging in various activities, from horseback riding to performing household chores.
A Symphony of Colors: The Spectrum of Tradition
Maharashtrian weddings are a riot of vibrant hues, and the bride's saree plays a key role in this colorful spectacle. While traditional colors like maroon, red, and green are favored, contemporary brides are embracing a wider spectrum of shades, from royal blue and emerald to deep purple and fuchsia. These colors symbolize auspiciousness, prosperity, and good fortune for the newlywed couple.
Embellishments and Motifs: Tales Woven in Thread
The Maharashrian bride's saree is adorned with exquisite embellishments and motifs that add a touch of grandeur and tell stories of tradition. These include:
Paithani Saree: Arguably the most famous of Maharashrian sarees, the Paithani is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, renowned for its intricate, handwoven designs in rich silk. These designs often depict peacocks, parrots, flowers, and geometric patterns, all executed with meticulous precision.
Chanderi Saree: Known for its delicate, lightweight fabric, the Chanderi saree is characterized by its subtle sheen and intricate woven patterns. It often features floral motifs, paisley designs, and geometric patterns.
Kanjeevaram Saree: While not strictly Maharashrian, the Kanjeevaram saree, with its rich silk and intricate gold thread embroidery, has become a popular choice for brides looking for an opulent and traditional look. It often features temple motifs, floral patterns, and auspicious symbols.
The Bridal Ensemble: Accessories and Ornaments
The Maharashrian bride's saree is not just an attire, it's a complete ensemble that includes accessories and ornaments that amplify her beauty and celebrate her special day. These include:
Jewelry: From the ornate gold nose ring (nath) to the heavy necklaces, the bride's jewelry is a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of the region. Traditional pieces include the 'chandrakor' (a crescent moon pendant), 'tulsi mala' (necklace made of holy basil beads), and 'bajuband' (armlets).
Mangalsutra: This sacred necklace, signifying a woman's married status, is a vital part of the Maharashrian bride's ensemble. It is typically made of black beads and gold, symbolizing the divine union and enduring bond between husband and wife.
Headgear: The bride's hair is typically styled in an elaborate bun adorned with flowers and a 'gajra' (floral garland). The 'nath' and the 'choda' (a hair ornament) add a touch of regality to the ensemble.
Make-up: Traditional Maharashrian bridal makeup is characterized by its subtlety. The bride's eyes are lined with kohl, her lips are painted with a rich red, and her cheeks are adorned with a touch of rouge.
A Modern Twist: The Evolution of the Maharashrian Bride's Saree
While tradition holds a strong sway in Maharashrian weddings, brides are embracing a touch of modernity in their choice of sarees. The classic Nauvari style is often paired with contemporary fabrics like georgette, chiffon, and velvet, adding a dash of glamour and elegance to the ensemble. Experimentation with colors, embellishments, and embroidery is also prevalent, allowing brides to personalize their look while respecting the traditions of their heritage.
FAQs: The Maharashrian Bride's Saree
Q1: What makes the Maharashrian bride's saree unique?
The Maharashrian bride's saree, known as the Nauvari Saree, is unique for its distinctive draping style - a nine-yard saree draped to create a tight, almost pant-like effect in the front, with the pallu draped over the left shoulder. This unique draping style, combined with the vibrant colors, intricate embellishments, and traditional jewelry, makes the Nauvari Saree an iconic symbol of Maharashrian bridal attire.
Q2: What are the different types of sarees popular for Maharashrian brides?
Popular saree choices for Maharashrian brides include:
Paithani Saree: Known for its intricate handwoven designs and rich silk.
Chanderi Saree: Delicate, lightweight fabric with subtle sheen and woven patterns.
Kanjeevaram Saree: Rich silk and intricate gold thread embroidery, often featuring temple motifs and floral patterns.
Q3: Is the Maharashrian bride's saree strictly traditional?
While traditional elements are important, modern brides are embracing a touch of modernity in their saree choices. They are experimenting with contemporary fabrics, colors, and embellishments to personalize their look while respecting the traditions of their heritage.
Q4: What are some of the essential accessories for a Maharashrian bride?
Essential accessories for a Maharashrian bride include:
Jewelry: Ornate gold nose ring (nath), heavy necklaces, 'chandrakor' pendant, 'tulsi mala' necklace, and 'bajuband' armlets.

Make-up: Subtle makeup with kohl-lined eyes, rich red lips, and a touch of rouge on the cheeks.
Q5: Where can I find Maharashrian bridal sarees?
Maharashtrian bridal sarees can be found in traditional saree shops, online retailers specializing in Indian attire, and at stores that cater to ethnic wear. It's always a good idea to visit local artisans and shops to find authentic Paithani and Chanderi sarees, adding a unique touch to the bridal ensemble.
Conclusion
The Maharashrian bride's saree is more than just an attire; it's a symbol of heritage, elegance, and tradition. It's a tapestry woven with threads of history, craftsmanship, and cultural pride. From the intricate designs to the vibrant colors, the saree reflects the rich tapestry of Maharashtran culture, making it a treasured part of the state's wedding traditions. As generations continue to embrace the beauty and significance of the Nauvari Saree, it stands as a timeless testament to the enduring spirit and artistry of the Maharashtran people.

Exploring the Role of Local Artisans in India's Travel Exhibitions
In the vibrant tapestry of India’s cultural landscape, local artisans hold a special place, reflecting the rich heritage and diverse traditions of the country. Their craftsmanship is not only a testament to India’s artistic legacy but also a crucial component in enhancing the appeal and authenticity of travel exhibitions. At prominent events like the India International Travel Mart (IITM), local artisans play an essential role, enriching the experience for visitors and showcasing the depth of India’s cultural wealth.
The Essence of Local Artisanship
Local artisans in India are the custodians of age-old techniques, passed down through generations. From intricate handwoven textiles to exquisite pottery, their creations are a reflection of regional history and identity. Each piece is a narrative of local traditions, natural resources, and cultural values. In the context of travel exhibitions, these artisans bring a tangible sense of place, offering visitors a direct connection to the local culture they are exploring.
Local Artisans at IITM: A Cultural Showcase
The India International Travel Mart (IITM) stands as a premier platform for showcasing diverse travel destinations, attractions, and cultural experiences. It serves as a melting pot where various facets of India's rich heritage come together. Local artisans, by participating in IITM, contribute significantly to this cultural showcase.
1. Authenticity and Immersion
One of the main attractions of travel exhibitions is the authenticity of the experiences they offer. Local artisans add a layer of authenticity by presenting traditional crafts that might otherwise be overlooked. At IITM, visitors can explore a range of handcrafted goods, such as Rajasthan’s block-printed textiles, Kerala’s coir products, or Madhubani paintings from Bihar. These artisans provide not just products, but also stories and techniques behind their crafts, creating an immersive experience for attendees.
2. Economic Empowerment
The inclusion of local artisans in travel exhibitions like IITM also plays a vital role in economic empowerment. By providing a platform for artisans to display and sell their work, these exhibitions offer them access to a broader market. This exposure can lead to increased sales, better livelihoods, and greater recognition for their skills. It also fosters sustainable tourism by supporting local economies and preserving traditional crafts.
3. Educational Opportunities
Travel exhibitions offer more than just shopping opportunities—they serve as educational platforms. At IITM, artisans often engage in live demonstrations, workshops, and discussions. These interactions allow visitors to gain insight into the intricate processes of traditional crafts. Learning about the techniques used in crafting a Kashmiri carpet or the artistry involved in creating a Kutch embroidery piece enriches the visitor’s understanding and appreciation of these cultural treasures.
4. Promotion of Cultural Heritage
Incorporating local artisans into travel exhibitions helps promote and preserve cultural heritage. It highlights the importance of safeguarding traditional practices and encourages a new generation to appreciate and continue these crafts. At IITM, artisans not only display their work but also engage in conversations about the cultural significance of their crafts, fostering a deeper connection between the visitors and the cultural heritage of India.
Case Studies: Artisans at IITM
Several local artisans have made notable impacts at IITM, showcasing their unique crafts and contributing to the exhibition’s success. For instance, the weavers from Varanasi, known for their luxurious silk sarees, bring an air of elegance to the event, captivating attendees with their artistry. Similarly, artisans from the North-East, renowned for their intricate bamboo and cane work, provide a glimpse into the region’s distinct cultural expressions.
These artisans often collaborate with tourism boards and cultural organizations to ensure that their crafts are presented in a way that aligns with their cultural significance. This collaboration enhances the overall visitor experience and underscores the role of local artisans in promoting India's diverse heritage.

Challenges and Opportunities
Despite their significant contributions, local artisans face challenges such as limited access to markets, competition from mass-produced goods, and the risk of losing traditional skills. Travel exhibitions like IITM offer valuable opportunities to address these issues by providing a platform for artisans to reach a wider audience and gain recognition.
There is also a growing trend of integrating technology with traditional crafts, which can help artisans reach global markets and showcase their work in innovative ways. Virtual exhibitions and online platforms are becoming increasingly important in this regard, allowing artisans to engage with a broader audience beyond physical events.
Conclusion
Local artisans are the heartbeat of India’s cultural and artistic landscape. Their participation in travel exhibitions like the India International Travel Mart (IITM) is instrumental in providing visitors with an authentic, immersive experience. By showcasing their traditional crafts, these artisans not only enhance the cultural depth of the exhibition but also contribute to economic development and cultural preservation.
As we continue to celebrate and support local artisans, it is essential to recognize their role in shaping the narrative of India’s rich heritage. Their presence at events like IITM underscores the importance of integrating cultural craftsmanship into the global tourism narrative, ensuring that India’s artistic traditions are cherished and preserved for future generations.

It’s a day filled with joy, excitement, and anticipation, and choosing the perfect saree for this occasion can make it even more special. The saree, a timeless and elegant garment, offers a myriad of options that cater to various tastes and preferences. Whether you prefer traditional, contemporary, or fusion styles, here are some engagement saree ideas that can help you shine on your special day.
1. Traditional Silk Sarees
Traditional silk sarees are a classic choice for engagement ceremonies. Rich in texture and vibrant in color, silk sarees exude an aura of elegance and grandeur. Options like Kanjivaram, Banarasi, and Mysore silk are particularly popular. Kanjivaram sarees, known for their intricate designs and luxurious feel, are a perfect blend of tradition and sophistication. Banarasi sarees, with their beautiful zari work, add a touch of royal elegance, while Mysore silk sarees offer a smooth, lightweight alternative. Choose colors like deep reds, royal blues, or rich greens, adorned with gold or silver zari for a regal look.
2. Contemporary Designer Sarees
For those who wish to blend tradition with modernity, contemporary designer sarees are an excellent option. These sarees often feature unique draping styles, innovative fabrics, and modern embellishments. Net sarees with intricate embroidery, sequins, or beadwork are a trendy choice, offering a glamorous yet sophisticated look. You can also opt for sarees with ruffle details, capes, or unconventional color palettes like pastel shades, which are currently in vogue. Designer sarees allow for a personalized touch, making your outfit stand out.
3. Embroidered Sarees
Embroidered sarees are a beautiful way to add intricate details to your engagement outfit. Depending on your preference, you can choose from heavy embroidery with zari, zardozi, or mirror work for a more traditional appearance, or opt for lighter, more delicate embroidery for a subtle and elegant look. Floral embroidery is particularly popular for engagement ceremonies, as it adds a romantic and feminine touch. Pairing an embroidered saree with a contrasting blouse can further enhance the overall aesthetic.
4. Printed Sarees
Printed sarees offer a playful and artistic alternative to more traditional options. They are perfect for a daytime engagement ceremony or a more casual setting. From abstract designs and geometric patterns to floral motifs and digital prints, there is a wide variety of prints to choose from. Chiffon and georgette printed sarees are light and easy to carry, making them comfortable yet stylish choices. You can also experiment with mix-and-match prints for a unique and contemporary look.
5. Fusion Sarees
Fusion sarees are ideal for the modern bride who loves to experiment with her style. These sarees blend elements from different cultures and styles, creating a unique and eclectic look. For instance, a saree with a western-style blouse, such as an off-shoulder or crop top, can add a chic and trendy twist to your outfit. You can also experiment with draping styles, like the dhoti drape or lehenga drape, to create a fusion look that is both fashionable and comfortable.
6. Pastel and Minimalistic Sarees
Pastel and minimalistic sarees have gained popularity among brides who prefer a subtle and understated look. Shades like blush pink, mint green, lavender, and peach are perfect for a soft and romantic vibe. Minimalistic sarees with delicate embellishments, like lace borders or light sequin work, offer a sophisticated and graceful appearance. These sarees can be paired with statement jewelry for a balanced and elegant look.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect saree for your engagement is a personal journey that reflects your style and personality. Whether you opt for traditional silks, contemporary designs, embroidered, printed, fusion, or pastel sarees, the key is to feel comfortable and confident in your chosen outfit.
