I was going on a joyride through the British countryside with my grandfather until we went over what seemed to be a very small hill but turned out to be a giant cliff and we both fell to our deaths into a (very scenic) ravine.

Out of the degrassi movies (don’t look back, Hollywood, Manhattan) which one do you think is the most ridiculous and why? And how would you rank the plots in each movie?
(I did not include Schools Out cause while a lot of things that happened in the movie pissed me off it was nowhere near as ridiculous or far fetched as the others)
Oh god. This will be fun, because the story lines during those movies were all over the place. It was very clear the writers weren't aiming to do anything remotely realistic and just wanted to have fun.
I'm inclined to say that Don't Look Back, even though it's widely despised, is probably less ridiculous than the other two movies. At least they stayed in Canada? Tristan was trying to run a successful YouTube channel, but I don't think it worked out. For some reason, I can't remember the details of the kidnapping story line, but it's not totally unbelievable that a girl would do something drastic like fake her own kidnapping because her older, abusive boyfriend was manipulating her into thinking it's the only way they could be together. We already know Maya to be someone overly concerned with keeping people safe and that she can't stop herself from getting involved. So that's not totally off to me.
Degrassi Goes Hollywood and Degrassi Takes Manhattan speak for themselves. Multiple characters ran off to either LA or New York and managed to find fame in a short period of time. In defense of Manny and Paige being cast in Jason Mewes' movie, there was at least a previous connection because both worked on the set of the season 4 movie. In Manhattan, Jane just randomly met a guy in a band that was about to take off and ends up performing with them on live TV. Since we're led to believe Holly J got the internship on her own merits rather than Declan pulling the strings, that's kind of hard to believe. Meanwhile, Spinner and Emma drunkenly elope and decide to remain married, declaring themselves in love after less than a week. Ellie's plot was somewhat more grounded. The Crellie stuff was ridiculous, but Ellie was intentionally running from the reality of her father's condition. Not only that, but Craig and Ellie had both been ruined for years by this point. So sadly, it wasn't too shocking to see Craig's cheating ways mixed with Ellie's desperation and codependency come into play once again.
I guess this means my answer is Degrassi Takes Manhattan? Honestly, they're all ridiculous. None of them hold up compared to the regular episodes, but oh well.
Degrassi Goes Hollywood:
1.) Manny (If not for Craig's involvement in Ellie's story line and the heavy emphasis on their non-romance, that one would rank first. I'm not afraid to say that this one places first because Manny is my favorite and I like seeing her dreams come true. Also, Janny got back together. Cassie Steele's voice was at least good enough to justify Manny landing that role even if Manny hadn't been established as a good singer prior to this. I just wish Peter and his stupid fucking band didn't have to be involved. The writers never let her be free of that man)
2.) Ellie (As I said before, this one had a solid basis. After Ellie's family problems were placed on the backburner for four seasons, finally we were given an update. We'd already known Ellie to self harm. Season 7 hinted at Ellie eventually developing a drinking problem. The elements were there for Ellie to have a really compelling story with her spiraling and relapsing to cope with her dad's condition. Unfortunately, the crux of this story line involved Ellie reconnecting with Craig, and I can only overlook that so much)
3.) Paige (This is easily the worst part of the movie. It was hard to understand why Paige was suddenly after fame or why she was even living in LA in the first place. The Paige of seasons 5-7 had different goals in mind. It felt like they wanted to resume the Paige vs Manny feud, only not even that got much screen time. For some reason, the writers really wanted to punish Paige and imply that she and Marco would never be friends again. Also, Perez Hilton showed up during all of this. We need to give the writers so much shit for that. They legitimately gave that creep a paycheck. Unforgivable)
Degrassi Takes Manhattan:
1.) Holly J vs Fiona (Arguably, this was the best plot in any of the movies. It was literally just Fiona and Holly J feuding while attempting to stake a claim on Declan. Holly J got most of the focus, but Fiona's character and the hints of her alcoholism and mental health problems were the most interesting aspect of it. I mean, Declan wasn't worth all that for numerous reasons, but he and Fiona had an extremely codependent sibling relationship. Declan wasn't beyond redemption at this point, so even his role was somewhat sympathetic with his loyalty being divided between his girlfriend and his twin sister)
2.) Spinner/Emma (Like I said before, the fact we were supposed to think their impulsive marriage was a sufficient happy ending with so little build up was unbelievable. But at the same time, the actors gave it their all and made it almost charming if you didn't think too much about it. Spinner and Emma together isn't the problem. It's the way it was done and the fact it was blatantly a rebound for Spinner and Emma being so desperate to figure out her future that she jumped right into a marriage with someone she was barely friends with. Had more time been devoted to their relationship set up or even if they'd simply become a couple, the fact they were endgame wouldn't feel so random and forced)
3.) Jane (Jane's five seconds of fame was ridiculous. I can't even talk about it because there's literally nothing to say. She randomly met a guy who was played by someone more than twice Jane's age (37), and suddenly she's in the band and ready to blow off college to be famous even though Jane was never into anything like that. Then, she finds out Spinner's getting married and stops just short of talking him out of it. Somehow, we're supposed to feel good about her ending. It felt like a series of totally random, bizarre events that have no basis in any sort of logic)
Don't Look Back:
1.) Zoe/Grace (I'm not going to pretend as if I'm not biased. Their story line was literally a lesbian romcom. I loved everything about it. I don't give a fuck that Zoe had three different love interests in one season or that the writers could never keep straight how academically smart she was. All that mattered is that she ended the season with Grace and finally met her match. We saw Grace more vulnerable with Zoe than we had with anyone else up to that point. Zoe finally realized what sort of love she wanted to experience and the kind of partner she needed. Had the writers just fucking let it happen and not been all, "Well, actually, it's problematic to assume that just because you dress vaguely alternative, color your hair, and have piercings, you must be gay. We're just going to ignore the times we implied Grace was into girls because the girl crushing on her BFF's boyfriend trope has never been done before and we need it for our tone deaf plot twist," everything would have been great. I even thought Miles's role in the story line was pretty fun)
2.) Maya/Zig (This isn't Maya's best story line and pales in comparison to all of her other season 14 plots, but it's like Gracevas's story line to me. I got to watch Zig and Maya be adorable together, kissing in every other scene and taking care of kids together after waiting for them to be canon for years. So I took what I could get and just had fun with it. Other than that, Maya's continued anxiety and need to involve herself so that she's never "responsible" for someone else's misery tracks for me. I thought Maya and Gloria coming together towards the end was interesting. And obviously, Zaya's first technical endgame since TNG could have been the end of the show)
3.) Frankie (To be honest, I just didn't care about this story line. Frankie's relationship with Gloria's abusive boyfriend wasn't well developed or given enough depth for me to believe Frankie seriously fell for him that quickly and easily. I know Winston was boring and had literally just kissed one of her best friends, but mostly I blame it on the fact that Frankie has the worst taste in men. I know the writers wanted to get everyone involved in Gloria's disappearance, but I wish anyone else had gotten the spotlight)
4.) Tristan (I don't know if this counts as a plot, but Tristan's constant interruptions take me out of the movie. I know it's supposed to be intentionally overdramatic, but this wasn't the best use of the character. Sometimes I wonder if the writers were trying to make everyone hate him)

Just ranting I guess but I think one of the reasons why Bylers got so upset whenever we finished volume two is because the way the story was taking us, it truly felt like Mike didn't even (romantically) love El. It still doesn't. Even without the rainbow lenses on our eyes, there's something about the way that Mike talks about her that doesn't feel like he's in love. We have a comparison within the show, the way Jonathan and Nancy talk about each other to other people, the way it's grounded in reality. The way that Johnathan understands himself and Nancy enough that he has to lie so that she doesn't throw away her future for him. He's also scared of losing her but he knows it's inevitable so he's going to do what Finn did for Rachel in glee. He's going to wait until they're supposed to go together and he's going to send her on her way, alone.
While I do understand that every relationship does have its own individual dynamic, something about the way Mike talks about El doesn't feel right. I get it he views her as a superhero, for him that means that she is brave, undefeatable, riotous, amazing. That could very much be true but that reads as him holding her up to high standards on par with Sean coming back to Emma in Degrassi and thinking she was still the innocent girl he left behind and being utterly disgusted by her and her actions when she wasn't. (Y'know how El reasonably lashed out on Angela and he didn't like that, same energy) Additionally, Mike's conversations with Will about her felt like he wasn't in love with her, and only regrets not saying it because of where she is now and not because of how she must feel because he didn't say it to her.
"if I would've said that thing" perhaps I am biased from personal experiences, but every time I've witnessed a dude say this about his girl, he didn't actually feel romantic towards her. They always ended up saying that they loved their partner because they did care but that was always the beginning of the end. Either they break up or reluctantly start a family thinking it would strengthen their bond. Maybe my mind has been poisoned by the real life tragedies I've witnessed from cishet couples.
I don't feel Mike's angst about the idea of losing El, not the way it felt in season 2 and even season 3. I could feel his relief knowing she was okay, his panic when he thought she would die but that's it. For the normal relationship drama, I didn't feel that angst.
I was trying to find shots of him looking at her with adoration in s4 earlier today just to admire it the way the way we do Byler, but there are very few until their reunion scene. I noticed during this attempt that during the airport and roller rink scenes and so on, he barely looked at her at all. Even during their good moments. It's just so strange.
I also can't stop fixating on the fact that they could've done a "still pretty" call back but they didn't, in fact he didn't call her pretty or compliment her appearance once. This is the only season where that has happened. Something is off, I don't need to ship Byler to see that.
And people will come in with "his nine I love you's aren't enough for you?!" no babe, they're not because they were partnered with a lie. He didn't love her from the moment they met, he took her in because it was raining and she was homeless. The original plan was for her to go to his mom the next day so she could help her and they could keep looking for Will, he kept hiding her because she made it clear they would be killed if adults knew. She knew this. He was curious about her but he didn't truly get invested until he saw she could help. He used her in season 1, and as much as I admire Mike Wheeler, I refuse to ignore that. I know that he gradually got feelings for her but something is different in this season, the math ain't mathing. I wish I could see it through the M!leven lens, I wish I could see it as unquestionable love at first sight, us against the world, no one can stop us type love but it just doesn't look that way to me anymore.

Could you do a ranking your favorite scream movies and why?
Scream
I'm not really sure if this needs an in-depth breakdown. It's iconic. The originator. The ultimate make-fun-of-and-pay-homage-to-movie-tropes movie. The first phone call, Drew Barrymore dying in the first 5 minutes? The dialogue, the meta, the balance, it's just all so well-done.
Scream 2
Randy is correct, this one is inferior to the first but it is a great sequel and not an inferior movie. I love the Ghostface reveals, they're very fun and funny, they're so close to being my favourite (but Billy and Stu reign supreme) the conversation about desensitization and art imitating life was carried throughout and carried throughout well. Joshua Jackson and Sarah Michelle Gellar having their small roles in it is great 90s teen pop culture reference.
Scream 4
Scream 3
I'm going to talk about them together. I put Scream 4 before Scream 3 because I think Scream 4 is technically tighter and the reveal of Jill Roberts being Ghostface was more interesting than Roman's reveal, which was kind of a jump the shark moment. Scream 3 had some good elements, like Sidney getting attacked on the set of the movie-within-the-movie so her life has become blended with pop culture, and in a lot of ways the third movie is the most meta considering the actors in Stab are given the same complaints about Stab that the actors in Scream had about the movie, i.e. the constant rewrites. Roman having to do the Stab movie before he could do his romance is what happened with Wes Craven, he had to direct Scream before he could do the movie he wanted so while Stab is a movie about the characters' lives, Scream 3 is kind of a movie about what's going on with the cast. That's deep-dive inside baseball meta. But it's not very fun. It is certainly more fun than Scream 5 or 6 but it kind of drags, Sidney is hardly in it because Neve only worked 20 days, and the supporting characters aren't nearly as engaging, not like how Randy was, or even Tatum and Halli.
Scream 4 didn't feel as laborious, it's light on the meta compared to the first three, but it's back to that kind of light, tongue and cheek vibe. Emma Roberts niece to Julia Roberts playing Jill Roberts who is tired of being Sid's cousin is a very big wink. Rory Culkin being in it, great choice. Having Adam Brody and Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin and those girls from PLL and Degrassi TGN do cameos were all great pop culture references. It also delivered on the "modern horror film" rules in a more satisfying way to me than Scream 3 did on the trilogy rules, like the deaths being more gruesome or "shocking" for the time and for the franchise like Jill shooting Trevor in the balls, which wouldn't have happened before.
Scream 5 + 6 are equal to me
I find them equally joyless and charmless tbh, I have the same "meh" attitude towards both of them.

WIP
Summer Daze It's July 2004 and Emma and Chris aren't doing well together. Between Chris being somewhat distant, temperamental and preoccupied with music and overall lack of communication between the pair Emma assumes it'll only be a matter of time before their relationship is over. They talk everyday but the romance leaves a lot to be desired.
Maybe this Christmas Emma Nelson awoke bright and early 7:00 AM to her alarm buzzing and she was anything but chipper. It was a cold December morning and she shivered once she took the blankets off her in her king-sized bed. Together Forever * Emma Nelson spent her summer days by the pool catching rays and nights at the ravine with someone unexpected - Jay Hogart. Summer fling, nothing committed or serious. Its August 2005 and the living is rather easy. Backtrack The bells on the door jingle as a figure trudges in to the warmth of The Dot, the neighborhood eatery at closing time on a Saturday night. The streets were bare aside from a few cars; it's at this time that Emma typically closes down shop and goes home. She carefully picked up a cup left behind at a table to send to the back. Focused on her craft she didn't really budge making sure she didn't drop anything. She often believes it's not a normal workday if at least one mug breaks. I Have Nothing * '...I can never forget how we ended on such bad terms with that fight, and then he left my heart bleeding in his hands as I crumbled my photograph meant for him. It sucks how it haunts me to see him every day,' Emma writes in her bright red diary with a pen as she takes a sip of Jack Daniels straight from the bottle. She sighs and then finishes, 'he was so not who I thought he was.' She almost had half the mind to tear out the entry crumble it into the trashcan like she did that photograph. This was how Emma spent most weeknights in the basement bedroom getting plastered and writing her thoughts in a diary.  Orange Car of Secrets (Hiatus) Emma Nelson, Jay Hogart and Ellie Nash have just piled into the car and were en route back home. It was around six o'clock. The sun was orange in the sky and the air was stale. The three were hungry, sweating and dirty still from the sand lingering in their clothes. It had been a long day and a day of ages for the misfit ragtag group of acquaintances. Emma had longingly looked out the window to see their friend, Sean Cameron being ripped from their lives and their memories. She saw he had tears in his eyes. Judging by his demeanor it was difficult for him to say his goodbyes. One thing that struck her as strange was he hadn't even said goodbye to her. The wordless look was all she needed to get her by. It was worth a thousand goodbyes. Maybe his goodbye to her was just the hardest one because of their past that he more than made up for in the last twenty-four hours or so. The Starlet and the Dealer (Discontinued) Zoe Rivas, child-starlet was the epitome of popular with teenaged girls. She was just sixteen herself. Piles and piles of both open and unopened letters handwritten and typed come from girls all over, some in English some in other languages that only a translator could read litter her bedroom. If the girls knew her day to day life they likely wouldn't have had such nice things to say. Honestly, they would have probably of text messaged and tweeted their thoughts or anonymously hurl threats from a computer screen.
One-Shots/Drabbles
Why don’t you believe me? *
Sean entered the main vestibule at the courthouse handcuffed with an officer present for court. Emma's mind was flooded with sadness as she saw him battered and bruised.
Mutual
The words turned her world from bright and innocent full of hope in the air to darken shades of monochrome. Fortunately for Emma, there was still a lingering light still flickering in the distance. Although Archie had only been her family for a short time, he was always around and she never would be able to fathom a world without him.
Homecooked Meal
The first day of school was pretty eventful for Sean but he was glad that it's over. After the final bell rings he makes the trek to caf to see Sheila the lunch lady. He hadn't seen her all summer and he had to stay behind in Simpson's class because he wanted to talk to him so he missed lunch.
Addicted
I didn't mean to see that you know, see him scoring drugs on the street corner from one of those sketchy thugs down the street. I was buying the newest installment of the Fortnight book series to sink my teeth into, no pun intended. Maybe fun intended, maybe I should put down Fortnight, I'm too old for vampire fantasies not when very real ones exist in my life.
Unfinished Business *
The only time we can be together is while she's asleep, how lame does that sound? I can stay in her house forever if I wanted to. I was invited there even if she doesn't want to acknowledge me. It's my fault she doesn't listen to my messages or chooses to ignore them. I get that now and if she resents me forever it'll hurt. She never mentions me. My name is Cam, but I know you were thinking I might as well be named Casper the friendly. . wait for it don't finish.
Honesty Maya Matlin stood still for a moment, playing back the recent moment in her mind as it echoed and swam through her brain. "I should've just kissed you." He whispered just inches from her, his eyes wide. Her eyebrow raised and then he just walked away. She knew he meant every word. Girlfriend of the Month * Sean Cameron like most guys his age found himself in the bathroom more often than not in search of reading material. He had the house to himself for the day, his girlfriend was out with friends and he could pretty much do whatever he wanted on that day. Since his long-time girlfriend Ellie moved in he found it more or less refreshing to see that she subscribed to some magazines but most of the reading material is not anything that is remotely of interest to him. A smiling blonde beauty graced the cover of this month's Girltrash magazine and in his boredom he picked it up reluctantly. He didn't expect that kind of magazine of Ellie to own because of it's preppish style of writing but sometimes he struggles to expect the unexpected.
The Reunion Even though Sean never graduated and was expelled from Degrassi he still managed to get invited to the class reunion for the class of 2007. Sean technically never graduated from the school, but he always considered it his high school despite getting his high school equivalency a short time after his expulsion. He can't believe it's been a little over 10 years since he last has seen some of his long time friends. He spent those years growing as an individual. He achieved most of his personal goals for example he owned his own garage called Cameron's Custom Cars. He was also going stag by choice because he wanted his reemergence to be a surprise to his old friends and best of all he was single. He was briefly seeing a girl but it was mostly casual on his end and his mind was always elsewhere. When Liberty received the email that he was making the reservation she knew she was the only one who knew and while she knew Emma was on student council she made absolutely sure she had no clue he was coming.

What do you think are best and worst written episodes from each season of degrassi & why?
I don’t have a reason (or at least not a good reason) for all of these, but:
Season 1:
Best: Jagged Little Pill, Coming of Age
Worst: Basketball Diaries. Idk it was a boring episode and I hate that Spinners ADHD was used as a plot device then never mentioned again.
Season 2:
Best: When Doves Cry, Shout, Karma Chameleon, How Soon Is Now, Dressed in Black, Tears Are Not Enough
Worst: Hot for Teacher. It’s not very memorable and idk it just felt like an uneccesary filler plot
Season 3:
Best: Father Figure, Never Gonna Give You Up, Don’t Dream It’s Over, Our House, Whisper To A Scream
Worst: This Charming Man. Again it wasn’t very memorable and it just made Sean look like more of an ass, like they began that plot in Gangsta Gangsta but they just made him look worse in this episode instead of expanding on what was really going on with him. Thankfully they redeem him later but idk this episode just felt weird. And the subplot was boring and not memorable
Season 4:
Best: Mercy Street, Time Stands Still. Back in Black, Voices Carry, Secret
Worst: Bark at The Moon and Goin Down The Road. BATM was an unnecessary filler episode with two unnecessary relationships starting and GDTR just felt unrealistic and stupid and contrived idk it was weird especially the Kevin Smith stuff
Season 5:
Best: Turned Out, Redemption Song, & Our Lips Are Sealed
Worst: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For & Together Forever. TF because the Liberty having her baby plot was so rushed and barely shown & this was the only time the pregnancy was actually from her POV.
Season 6:
Best: Eyes Without A Face and Free Fallin
Worst: Honestly pretty much every other episode lmao but If You Leave, Sunglasses At Night, True Colours, Here Comes Your Man, Don’t You Want Me, & Crazy Little Thing Called Love. HCYM because they screwed over Sean’s character for no real reason, tried to make Peter look good when he wasn’t, and the plot itself was just plain stupid. And neither of the subplots were likable. If You Leave just made Emma look like a bitch and was unnecessary drama and it made Dylan look like a bad guy again for no real reason (I never liked Dylan but they just made it worse in this episode and tried to make it seem like Marco was being irrational). CLTCL further damaged Sean’s character and the subplot was just filler cuz it never was mentioned again even though it actually did have potential. DYWM was actually a good episode for Alex even though it was heartbreaking but it still could have been written better and honestly my main reason for putting this episode under worst is because of the subplot. Emma’s “pregnancy scare” and Sean suddenly leaving again was so rushed and horribly written. I don’t really have a good reason for the other two episodes.
Season 7:
Best: Standing In The Dark, Live To Tell, Death or Glory, Hungry Eyes
Worst: Got My Mind Set On You, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Dont Stop Believin’, Love is A Battlefield, Broken Wings, We Built This City, & Talking In Your Sleep. GMMSOY was one of the most boring episodes of Degrassi that I’ve ever seen. I never liked Derek but they just made him and Danny fight over a girl that was never mentioned again and Danny actually faced racism which is serious but that’s never mentioned again either. I know filler episodes exist but this one was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The subplot made it worse. Emma/Damian was such a rushed and unnecessary relationship. Owner of A Lonely Heart was barely memorable either. I feel like all of Marcos plots in the later seasons were badly written/unmemorable. And I love Janny but their relationship was really rushed too. Don’t Stop Believin was just weird. I understand what the writers were trying to do but there was no reason for Ellie and Marco to make out/almost hook up to realize they were too dependent on each other. It was just really awkward. I don’t hate the episode but it just wasn’t written very well. Love is A Battlefield just made Paige look like a diva and was a bad write off for Alex’s character who went through so much development. Alex did nothing wrong but they tried to make her look like she was inferior to Paige and that’s not the first time they did that either. That’s the main issue I had with their relationship. And the subplot was an unnecessary filler. There was no reason for her and Damian to start another relationship only to end it in the same episode and then have Manny accused of being racist. It was so stupid. I don’t really have a reason for Broken Wings, it was just boring and not memorable. We Built This City just made Liberty look bad for no reason and made me wonder again what anyone saw in Damian and why his character existed. This class deserved a better graduation episode. & Peters subplot was random and boring and unnecessary, I mean they probably had no idea Shenae would be leaving when they wrote this plot but they have Darcy begging him to stay only for her to leave like 3 Episodes later. Peter could have just left and then we wouldn’t have had to sit through Pia or any of Peters other boring plots. Talking in Your Sleep was bad writing partly because Paige/Griffin being interested in each other was rushed but mainly because the whole HIV thing was never brought up again. I know there wasn’t a high chance of Paige getting it but still it just felt like they didn’t care enough to explore this plot further and Griffin wasn’t even a relevant character so they probably wouldn’t have done this plot to its full potential anyway, which sucks.
Season 8: (ugh why does mobile app keep spacing things so far apart?)
Best: Causing A Commotion, Jane Says, Heat Of The Moment, Lost In Love, Heart Of Glass, Fight The Power, Didn’t We Almost Have It All, Up Where We Belong (most of these are for the main plots, the subplots in Heart Of Glass, Fight The Power and Jane Says sucked)
Worst: Uptown Girl & Degrassi Goes Hollywood. I know DGH wasn’t meant to be realistic but it still could have been written a lot better. They had Paige turn into a total diva even though acting isn’t even what she wanted to do in the first place and it just tainted her character for no reason. What makes it worse is they had Paige specifically tell that Hayley girl or whatever her name was that she’d never treat people as bad as she treated Paige, but then Paige ends up treating people just as bad anyway. As for Manny’s plot, it was great to see her dream come true at the end but the whole teacher/student relationship cane out of nowhere. I know Manny didn’t play a big role in Season 8 but we still did see her throughout the season so even though that relationship should have never happened in the first place, they should have built up to it at least. Ellie’s plot was the only one written decently but that wasn’t enough to me up for half of the movie being awful. Uptown Girl was equally unrealistic but this wasn’t some special movie so it really had no excuse for being that way. Mia becoming a model was a terrible uneccesary storyline and the fact that she slept with the Tom guy but still got to keep the job didn’t add up. I know it wasn’t publicly revealed until later and I know Danny and Leia didn’t say anything but still. It just was stupid.
Season 9:
Best: Shoot To Thrill, Why Can’t This Be Love, Waiting For A Girl Like You, Somebody, & You Be Illin
Worst: Just Can’t Get Enough, Close To Me, Holiday Road, & Degrassi Takes Manhattan. JCGE handled Peters meth use terribly. It was so rushed through and felt pointless. Close To Me tainted Janes character for no real reason by having her cheat on Spinner. Holiday Road just made Emma into controlling girlfriend when they could have instead just focused on the fact she was hiding that she flunked out of college and how hard it was on her. Degrassi Takes Manhattan was just…a mess. Between the rushed, random, unnecessary and pointless Spemma marriage to Janes boring plot, it was just awful. Nothing about Spemma made sense, the writing was awful, it was the most rushed relationship I’ve ever seen. This movie was a train wreck.
Season 10:
Best: Purple Pills, What A Girl Wants, Breakaway, Hide and Seek, Chasing Pavements, Halo, Drop The World
Worst: Love Lockdown. I liked the two subplots but the Holly J/Declan plot was awfully written. I can understand Holly J. not wanting to start anything by admitting that she thinks she was raped and instead just wanting to say she regrets what happened, but the fact that Declan pressured her and didn’t listen when she said no does qualify as rape but they let Declan get away with it which is disgusting. Sure, Declan may have not realized what he was doing but that doesn’t make it okay.
Season 11:
Best: Boom Boom Pow, Idioteque, Take a Bow, Paper Planes, Can’t Tell Me Nothing, Hollaback Girl, Smash Into You
Worst: Love Game. I just hate how they wrote Clare in this episode.
Season 12:
Best: Zombie, Waterfalls, Rusty Cage, Never Ever
Worst: Come As You Are & Walking on Broken Glass. The whole situation with Katie and Drew was written so terribly. They worked so hard to make Katie look like the victim. Yes it was wrong of Drew to cheat on Katie, & he should have been honest and upfront from the beginning about wanting to break up, but what Katie did was way worse. Yet they don’t show everything that happened so we’re made to believe that Drew just “had sex while drunk and forgot because he blacked out” and we’re supposed to think he’s so terrible for dumping Katie after they “had sex” though he made it clear he didn’t wanna be with Katie anymore, he wanted his first time to be sober and with Bianca, there was no way he consented to having sex with Katie, he was too drunk and honestly that whole video of Drew cheering about having sex was so contrived. At the end of the first part of the episode he just says “I did it” which could have meant that he thought he broke up with Katie. Then he falls down the stairs and hits his head, then regains conciousness and looks confused but keeps jumping around and dancing but it’s never implied that he thought that he had sex or that he did have sex. Yes we see him and Katie kiss but that doesn’t automatically mean sex and either way kissing does not equal consent. The next day Drew is completely confused as to why Katie thinks they’re back together, it doesn’t matter why he doesn’t remember, what matters is it’s clear he didn’t want it to happen. So they just created that part of the video to make Drew look like he “wanted it” even though 1) HE WAS TOO DRUNK TO CONSENT 2) It was clear he never wanted to have sex with Katie, he went upstairs to break up with her, even telling her he lied about Courtney to get him to break up with her cuz he wasn’t happy. Katie thought that just cuz Drew said “he might be dead if it weren’t for her” that somehow meant he didn’t want to break up, even though when she was saying all that BS about how he shouldn’t be able to make decisions about their relationship on his own, he just sat there with a dazed expression on his face. He never said he still wanted to be with her. 3) Drew would never talk like that if he were sober. It’s just like Zoe saying “do you think I’m sexy” when she was blackout drunk and assaulted. Drew didn’t even remember saying or doing any of that stuff just like Zoe didn’t and she obviously didn’t want it either. So yeah. Come as You Are & Walking on Broken Glass were both terribly written. The only good part of CAYA was Maya’s plot. The other reason WOBG was terrible aside from the Katie/Drew stuff was also terrible because Eli acted like such an entitled ass and even though Becky was ultimately wrong for being homophobic, Eli only changed the play to spite her even though he said otherwise, and before she was revealed to be homophobic he was totally condescending and rude to her. Eli didn’t deserve to be the director because he acted like he was the only one who was allowed to be in charge of plays. I’m not really saying this was badly written because it made sense for Eli’s character, it just annoyed me. Oh and, Tristan pretending to be Maya to talk to Cam and when Cam finds out, he says he will never be friends with either of them but that’s completely forgotten later. I think the whole plot of Tristan impersonating Maya was dumb but the plot itself wasn’t bad writing it just was a bad idea but the part about Cam saying they’ll never be friends was inconsistent writing.
Season 13:
Best: Unbelievable, How Bizzare, My Hero, Enjoy The Silence, The World I Know, Better Man, You Are Not Alone, Believe
Worst: About A Girl, Cannonball, Honey, Black and White, Who Do You Think You Are, Barely Breathing, Spiderwebs, Sparks Will Fly, & Thunderstruck. The main reason of course for Honey is Adam dying and the fact that it was so poorly written. But also because the Maya/Zoe/Miles drama was so cringeworthy. And they tried so hard to make Alli/Leo look like a good relationship for several episodes and I know abuse isn’t always immediate but in this episode and in episodes prior they try so hard to make it seem like Alli and Leo have an epic romance and by the time we see Leo become aggressive for the first time it feels underwhelming, like it’s obviously heartbreaking and they do better with the abuse storyline in later episodes but idk the writing was just really weak in this episode. With About A Girl, again I hated the petty Maya/Miles/Zoe/Tristan drama, & Adam impersonating Becky was stupid and felt honestly out of character. With this episode & with Cannonball, they had a great opportunity to explore Connor being asexual but it’s dropped after these episodes and just used as an excuse for relationship drama. Cannonball also sucked because of Adam crashing into a tree of course which was such a sloppy way to write him out of the show, he deserved better.  With Black and White, they all the sudden had Winston try to ruin Drew’s presidency and have something against him even though Drew never did anything to him. They tried to make us feel sympathy for Winston even though the way he treated Drew was out of line. Who Do You Think You Are & Barely Breathing were both awful because the plot of Dallas getting kicked off the hockey team and developing a drinking problem wasn’t even from his own point of view. The storyline had great potential but they fucked it up by not making it from his point of view. Then the Maya/Zoe drama was so ridiculous. Both of them were in the wrong for different reasons. What Maya did was awful and she definitely deserved punishment for it, but Zoe also deserved punishment and the way they tried to make her look innocent pissed me off so much. With Spiderwebs, the Drianca break up was so rushed and random and written so awfully. I can understand if Alicia couldn’t or didn’t wanna come back but it could have been written better and it was pretty clear that they only broke them up so Drew could be free to have ridiculous relationship drama plots, even though none of those relationships lasted long (or even happened in the first place like Clew) and all of those plots just dragged Drew’s character down. Drew and Drianca deserved better. Then there was the Eclare plot. Clare took Eli back so quickly even though he made little to no effort to earn her trust back. And then we have Alli supporting Clare taking Eli back even though Alli herself has been cheated on before and she used to strongly dislike Eli and had even more of a reason to now. I could also say that the cheating plot in BOW was written badly but honestly Eli doing shitty things doesn’t surprise me but in Spiderwebs the whole thing was badly written. Clare deserved better. With Sparks Will Fly, Clew finally is about to start an actual relationship after several episodes of build up only for Eli to show up, thus Clew doesn’t happen. What was the point of building up Clew if they were just going to keep bringing Eli back? Then there was the Zig/Maya/Miles triangle, that had both guys acting like assholes and they had the episode to make this episode about why Maya was so scared of rejecting Zig/hurting Miles but instead they made it about relationship drama, yeah they had Maya say “I can’t be with a guy who scares me, not again” and “last time someone I cared about disappeared they never came back” but we don’t see Miles even react or care about those statements which is one of the many reasons Matlingsworth sucks, he never truly cared about her feelings. Yes Zig was an ass in this episode too but he’s proven to care about Maya’s feelings on more than one occasion despite making a lot of mistakes. Miles only ever cared about himself. With Thunderstruck, I didn’t hate the episode but it was badly written. We’re supposed to believe Drew and Becky are romantically interested in each other even though in past episodes they were just shown to be friends. Yes, they spent a lot of time in the woods together in the last episode but nothing about it was romantic. Even though they were friends throughout most of the season, they were never super close yet somehow Drew suddenly knows all this stuff about her. I can buy him being attracted to her, but not actually having real feelings with her. Everything about Drecky was rushed and unnecessary. Then with the Maya/Zoe plot, Zoe and Zig suddenly are interested in each other, again yes they spent time together in the previous episode but nothing about it was romantic. Then, despite Maya supporting Zoe at her trial and them being on better terms, she hates her again all because Miles almost cheated on her with Zoe, even though Zoe was literally out of her mind drunk and was assaulted the same night. Yes Maya was mad at Miles too but Miles was really the only one who deserved blame in this situation. I can understand why Maya was upset, especially because Zig agreed to go to the dance with her after already saying he’d go with Maya, but the way she acted was immature whether she was drunk or not. Yes, Zoe was never a good friend to Maya but Maya still acted irrationally. And Zoe saying she was trying to be Maya’s friend all year was bad writing as well because that was total bullshit and not true. Then the Eclare plot, Clare conveniently hits her head, has to go to the hospital, misses her interview, all the hotels are booked so she has “no choice” but to stay with Eli. Hmm, how convenient. Then the random ass revelation of Clare being pregnant at the end. Which of course leads into more terribly written plots for season 14.
Season 14:
Best: (You Drive) Me Crazy, Wishlist. Get it Together, Give Me One Reason, & The Kids Aren’t Alright
Worst: Anything involving Degrassi Nudes and Clare’s pregnancy in the first half of season 14. Most of the episodes really only suck because of those plots, like they’d be fine otherwise without those plots. It was hard to pick a specific episode. I also didn’t like Finally, I hate how badly Drew was screwed over throughout this episode when he did nothing wrong, and I hate how Imogen and Jack briefly reuinite only for Imogen to once again feel like she has to do everything to please Jack whereas Jack puts in little to no effort, and then they break up again. There was no point in any of that, and once again Imogen loses her girlfriend on the prom/graduation episode :( I know it was Imogen’s choice both times but like with Fiona it was because she didn’t want to hold her back and also because the writers wanted to bring Imogen back for another year. Imogen deserved better honestly. I also felt like the Hunter plot was out of place even though I did like the plot, it didn’t really fit in this episode.
Season 15/NC season 1:
Best: YesMeansYes & ButThatsNoneOfMyBusiness
Worst: NotAllMen and ThisCouldBeUsButYouPlayin. With NotAllMen, I felt like the whole plot with Zoe thinking David was her dad was a bit random and also felt unrealistic, like it would have been great if Zoe had a real plot about finding her real dad but idk, it felt poorly written. and then they have Gracevas kiss and still Grace isn’t honest about her feelings. It would have been great if Grace actually returned her feelings, but seeing where the next episode goes, they didn’t need to tease us like that, it was fucked up. Then there was Frankie’s plot. It was clear Frankie was struggling and instead of going deeper into that, they have Jonah think he knows Frankie, being condescending and rude to her, and having Frankie’s friends guilt her into staying with them even when she wanted to try and go make a difference and volunteer. Jonah had no right to treat Frankie the way he did, it was uncalled for, but somehow this is the build up to their relationship which never needed to happen, at least not the way it did. Frankie could have been given a real depression storyline but instead it’s all about boy drama. I know they also do this in three other episodes of the season but this particular episode’s plot was the most poorly written. TCBUBYP was awful because of the contrived cheating plot that instead could have been Zig talking to Maya about his insecurities, or if he had to talk to Zoe she could have just been there for him as a friend, there was no need for them to hook up, and the fact that Zoe recorded it was even more disgusting. And then of course setting up Gracevas only for Grace to not return Zoe’s feelings and randomly say she likes Zig which made zero sense. Everything about this plot was contrived and awful. It just tainted Zaya, Zig, Grace, and Zoe for no real reason and they couldn’t even write it in a way that made sense.
Season 16/NC season 2:
Best: ThatAwkwardMomentWhen & BuyMePizza
Worst: TheseAreMyConfessions & ThrowbackThursday. & ToMyFutureSelf. TAMC because Grace liking Zig was obviously forced and it was extremely awkward, and the way Grace treated Maya was out of line but we’re supposed to feel sympathy for her and she never even apologizes (like maybe she did off screen but I doubt it because anytime someone screws Maya over they rarely face consequences or apologize, or if they do its not sincere). There’s no real explanation aside from Grace’s illness why she acting the way she’s acting, but her illness is no excuse to treat Maya like crap and it doesn’t explain why she lead Zoe on either (you’re my best friend I tried for you isn’t a good excuse), And her liking Zig was so random and made no sense and it was obviously forced. ThrowbackThursday was badly written in my opinion because the alumni’s lines mostly felt forced and awkward and they deserved more screen time. And while it was great that the writers wanted to bring attention to the BLM movement, Tiny getting suspended wasn’t because he was black, and then they don’t even have the storyline from his point of view. I know that they brought up that Frankie barely got in trouble for her racist banner, they should have done the plot about that with Shay leading the protest, or they could have had Tiny fight a white kid who went to their school and have Tiny receive more punishment than the white kid if they wanted the plot and protest to make sense. ToMyFuturseSelf just made Grace seem like a bad friend and her reasoning for being on Zig’s side for most of the episode even though she called him out the most after he cheated on Maya made no sense. And they just made Zig look even worse in this episode for no reason. The other plots were just boring and hardly memorable.
Season 17/NC season 3
Best: Honestly all of them
Season 18/NC season 4
Best: Obsessed, Fire, KThxBye
Worst: I thought the Zig/Esme/Frankie plot in FactsOnly was poorly written but the rest of the episode was great

Degrassi TNG Rewatch
okay so all of Degrassi is on Youtube and I decided to do a rewatch bc it’s been YEARS since I’ve seen any of the episodes and watching them all in order from way back in the beginning has been A TRIP
I just finished s1 and here are some thoughts:
-most importantly, it taught me to confront my own homophobia!!!: I was a young devout tween when I first started watching this show, and was uncomfortable with having a gay older brother. “Uncomfortable” is probably a nice way of putting it. I never said or did anything mean to him, but I had uncharitable thoughts for sure. In this season, Ashley learns her parents got divorced bc her father is gay. She’s so upset (and upset about him “lying” to her about it, when lying = being in the closet) that she tells her friend Terri she’s made the decision to cut him out of her life. Terri, whose mother is dead, calls her out: “My mom’s gone, she’s not coming back. Your dad came back.” “It’s not the same thing, Terri.” “You’re right, it’s not. You have a choice.” BAM. Terri got to me. I hadn’t wanted a gay brother but I sure as hell didn’t want a dead one, and this episode forced me to confront my own cruel thoughts
-i had to skip the pilot bc it creeps me out too much
-why does the theme song end with a close-up on some girl’s butt? it’s so randomly uncomfortable
-the phones. oh my gosh all the mobile phones.
-I FORGOT HOW AWFUL PAIGE IS, ugh, “hun”
-all I’d really remembered about Terri was the devastating way she was written off the show. I’d forgotten how pure and sweet she was and I just love her so much?? What a sweetheart of a friend. Ashley doesn’t deserve her. Paige doesn’t, either. Does anyone? idk
-speaking of Terri’s sad exit, is it also weird that I get emotional thinking of the torture and/or death that awaits these fictional children? (WE DON’T TALK ABOUT JT, IT’S SO UNACCEPTABLE) but honestly. the shaming that manny will have to go through, liberty’s unwanted pregnancy, sean’s life, jimmy getting shot, spinner falling into the wrong crowd ughhh they’re all such BABIES here and i love them and want them to be ok bc rewatching this show reminds me of how i kind of grew up with them and it feels like revisiting former classmates, a lot of whom have also had sad endings
-part of the power comes from casting actually kids. even if the dialogue is sometimes stilted, a lot of them are really natural (spinner, emma, manny, liberty, and JT are the most authentic imo). and like sean has acne??? aw
-I remember really not liking Emma when I was younger bc I thought she was preachy and annoying. Well I guess she’s still kind of preachy and definitely a proto-SJW (like a younger, Canadian Jessie Spano) but I actually don’t mind her as much anymore. I’m proud of her, actually. Same with Liberty. She’s so precious.
-I love this scene where Spike confronts a guy at the mall for saying something really inappropriate to her & Emma, which inspires Emma to shut down JT for teasing her about her period. Which Sean notices and is impressed by
-bby Sean is so sweet and I actually was like kind of ok with him and Emma? I hated them as a youth bc I was such a hardcore Sean/Ellie shipper (I think I’d missed the earlier seasons at that point) but I’m like, ok with them now
-interesting that this season focuses so much on Ashley & Toby, who are arguably the two least interesting characters in the show at least at this point imo
-JT Yorke looks like, idk, if Jamie Lee Curtis was a middle school boy??
-I love the unironic use of phrases like “surf the web.” And how Ashley gets a same-day, bike messenger delivery of condoms bc, as she tells Terri, “you can order anything on the Internet.”
-I’m obsessed with the fashion, the hairstyles, everything. It is so much more of a throwback than I ever could’ve imagined. I hope someday kids are able to dress like kids again.

what are you favorite top degrassi seasons?
This question is so difficult!! I’m serious I spent an hour writing down all the seasons and weighing all the pro’s and con’s of each season to figure out the order I would put these in. I know you didn’t ask me to rank all the seasons and tell you why I think that… but I am… because I feel like it… so let’s move from the worst to the best shall we?
18. Season 11 - I hated it the first time I watched it. I hated it the second time I watched it. I don’t plan on sitting through the whole thing ever again. I loved the introduction of Zaya and that is about it. I didn’t ship anything. This was the season that made me stop shipping Eclare which I literally used to OTP so hard.
17. Season 13 - This was the only season that I ever completely stopped watching because I was so bored. I was still nursing my heartbreak over losing Cam and then all of a sudden they ripped Adam from me too. After that I tried to keep up but I just didn’t really care because it hurt too much. Maya was moving on with Miles (which I still don’t get the appeal) and Zig was all but forgotten up until halfway through. The Paris plot was so stupid. And Alli one of my favorite girls was being uncharacteristically dumb (and she’s not very bright as it is). And to top it all off they gave Clare cancer for about 10 episodes then all of a sudden she was better! (I’m not even gonna mention Ew… I mean Clew) Lol no. Bye.
16. Season 14 - 14B just swooped in and saved the entire show for me. After the longest hiatus the show has ever had and about a year and a half after me only watching this show when I noticed it was on, the promise of seeing Alli Bhandari and Clare Edwards graduating was just enough to pull me back in. So before 14B I binge-watched season 13 and the first half of 14 (because I didnt really pay attention the first time) and BOY IT CHANGED MY LIFE. Not because the storylines were good but BECAUSE. OF. ZAYA. Never in my life had I gone from hating a ship (yeah yeah Zig was trying to break up Camaya so I hated him) to thinking it was the most well built pairing on the show. The rest of 14 was crap though. Zoe forcing people to send boob pics = dumb. Clare’s baby plot = dumber. So yeah I fell in love with Degrassi again because of Zaya and it’s probably the reason I’m here today.
15. Season 1 - Shocked to find what started it all so low on the list? Yeah me too but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Overall not much happened this season. It built the world that we left behind in Degrassi High over again and introduced us to the new generation and thats about it. But Sean and Emma’s first date, Emma’s first period, and the ecstasy plot = CLASSIC DEGRASSI.
14. Season 8 - No one is surprised. Honestly though I LOVEEE this era of Degrassi. This was the first season I watched from beginning to end as it was airing so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only did I instantly love Alli and Clare to bits, but finally my all time favorite character Johnny DiMarco had an actual girlfriend and showed that he actually has real feelings. WOW.
13. Season 9 - Yeah this is only a step up from season 8 because it was the epitome of Dolly J. The chemistry was through the roof. One of the hottest couples Degrassi has ever had. Plus this season had MORE JOHNNY so yeah I loved it but not a huge amount of hot topics were covered.
12. DNC Season 2 - It covered hot topics but it didn’t really have that spark. I think since it was made at the same time as DNC season 1 that they put so much effort into making the first half great so it could attract more people but yeah it was a bummer. Honestly the only reason it’s above s8&9 is because of the reunion episode and the Craig Manning appearance… I appreciate them attempting the Black Lives Matter plot but it didn’t get me in the gut. I much preferred the Connor and Dallas racism plot in season 13 even if it wasn’t fully fleshed out.
11. Season 10 - This was when Degrassi reinvented itself for the first time and I must say it had me hooked from the beginning. This was when they started airing an episode a day for several weeks and it was so exciting. Everyone was falling for Eclare. And Adam was stealing everyone’s heart. It was so exciting and different and really a breath of fresh air. Were the plots amazing and jaw dropping? No not really but it kept me super entertained and frankly saved the show and I will gladly give the credit where credit is due. But seriously… Eli was better when he was with Morty just sayin…
10. DNC Season 1 - This was the second time that Degrassi reinvented itself and it was MUCH better done than season 10 was. After being so scared of losing the show altogether, seeing the beginning of Next Class really gave me hope. The cast was smaller and so were the lengths of the seasons but they worked so much harder to really make all the plots count and make every minute of screentime the best it could possibly be. After 4 seasons of really long seasons full of random plots that didnt always make the most sense, watching this season felt like coming home to the Degrassi that I fell in love with because for the first time in a long time they really cared about making EVERY plot the best it could possibly be. They still had a couple of kinks and issues to work out but this season really felt like it “went there” again.
9. Season 5 - The first time ever watching the characters you’ve grown up with graduate from Degrassi is one of the hardest things. DTNG’s 100th episode and S5 finale, High Fidelity will still make me cry at the drop of a hat. Watching Paige, Ellie, Marco, and Hazel graduate and thinking that you’ll never see them again still hurts me so much. And the scene where Jimmy forgives Spinner - SO MANY TEARS. Also this season gave us the iconic Manny line “You can sell this for a million dollars because I’m gonna be famous.” Also Darcy and Spinner’s Christianity plot still hold such a special place in my heart.
8. Season 6 - This season was a rollercoaster. One minute I’m flipping out over Sean and Emma being back together then the most heartbreaking TV death in the history of TV ripped my heart out. To this day I cannot watch Rock This Town without bawling my eyes out. I mourned for JT as if I had grown up with him myself. No other fictional character has ever made me feel emotions that were THAT REAL before. As sad as it was it was the moment that sealed Degrassi as my favorite show of all time and even though it’s been 9 years nothing else has even come close.
7. Season 7 - Probably the darkest season the show has ever had. It began with Darcy’s rape and then followed her entire journey throughout the whole semester. On top of that we see Spinner reach the darkest place he has ever been when he gets cancer. And boy this season was just so sad. Especially with the addition of all the Lakehurst kids who we’d eventually learn to love like Holly J, Jane, Sav and Anya. On top of that we get to see Emma, Manny, Liberty, Toby, Spinner, and Jimmy graduate which really was a LONG time coming. These were the people who began the show and now that they were leaving it truly was the end of the Golden Era of Degrassi.
6. Season 4 - This was the season that showed how dark the show could really get and it ultimately proved that Degrassi would “go there.” The fact that still to this day one of the most well known pieces of information about Degrassi is that Jimmy got shot by Rick truly iconic. It’s impossible for me to watch Time Stands Still without getting chills. Also this season featured Kevin Smith and who doesn’t love Kevin Smith.
(to be fair these top 5 are all pretty equal in my eyes and the order in which they come changes frequently)
5. DNC Season 3 - The first thing to note about this season is that it was released at 2am in the morning and I stayed up all night and watched the sunrise because I simply had to finish it all in one sitting. After s14 I was sure that the days of Degrassi’s fantastic seasons were through with and when Next Class began I thought there may be potential but this season went above and beyond all of my expectations. For one MAYA MATLIN. I cannot sing enough praises to the writers for treating her depression and suicide attempt in such a realistic way. And Lola’s abortion plot was the best one they have ever done and was handled in the most beautiful way. This season truly was the darkest season since season 7 and everything about it was So. On. Point.
4. Season 3 - Some of the best and most iconic episodes are from this season and they are the ones that time and time again I find myself rewatching because they never get old. Father Figure, Pride, Holiday, Accidents Will Happen, Take On Me, and Rock & Roll High School all have a solid place on my favorite episodes ever list. This season helped to build Degrassi into the longstanding and iconic show that it has become. During this season we no longer had to introduce characters and get used to them. By now we knew most of our main cast and they instantly felt like family - a concept that is the single most important reason why Degrassi is my favorite show ever.
3. DNC Season 4 - Even though it just came out, I could not imagine putting it any lower on this list. This season accomplished everything I could have possibly wanted and more. The genderfluid plot was so well done and it is something I’ve wanted the show to cover for years. And it tackled terrorism and Islamophobia. Not to mention that this season bid adieu to possibly my favorite graduating class that the show has ever had. It gave each and every one of them the respect and closure that they deserved while not granting any unrealistic and too good to be true endgames (*cough* Eclare). The season focused on the characters themselves and not just their romantic relationships and it really solidified who they have become as people and how much they have grown. And best of all it opened the door for a newer class to come in and keep the show going strong.
2. Season 12 - Wow this season came out of nowhere. In the midst of 2 of the worst seasons Degrassi has ever had was this gem. What made it stand out is that for once the writers went into the season with a plan of where they were going and where they wanted the characters to end up. The entire season was building to Cam’s suicide and how all the characters would be affected by it. Therefore this season had more direction and meaning that many seasons before it were severely lacking. Not only was the over arching plot of this season fantastic, the smaller pieces of it were as well. I was so invested in Campbell Saunders from the moment he showed up on my screen. His relationship with Maya became one of my favorites the show has ever done and it also made me love Maya as a character. This season was also the epitome of Eclare’s relationship for me. They were healthy and in love and finally on the same page (well until Bitter Sweet Symphony). We also had fantastic ships like Fimogen, Drianca, Jatie, Jonnor, and the beginnings of Bhandallas to pass the time. And another one of my favorite Christianity plots featuring Jenna took place in this season. This season’s success caught me by complete surprised and drew me in when I was beginning to not care about the show anymore. More specifically Campbell Saunders and Dylan Everrett’s acting saved Degrassi for me. Without that character I don’t know if I would still be watching the show. His character made me believe that Degrassi still had the ability to make me feel these emotions that other TV shows can’t and therefore this season holds such a special place in my heart.
1. Season 2 - The first time I watched it I did not realize that this would be my favorite season ever. Because to me this season is the Degrassi essentials. It is the bare bones of what makes this show great in every way. Craig’s introduction in When Doves Cry will forever be the greatest introduction to a character I’ve ever seen. It’s so rare to meet a new character and become so drawn in and attached in a single hour that it blew me away. Degrassi introducing Craig as a new character in the season premiere and showing him having an abusive parent was absolutely heartbreaking. To be honest the first time I watched it I didnt understand. I was too young to fully grasp the magnitude of how important this episode was but it was. Moving forward, this season also went on to introduce Marco and Ellie and cover Paige’s rape which was the first time Degrassi truly “went there.” Another personal unsung favorite of mine is Don’t Believe The Hype that shows Hazel’s struggle to accept her heritage and it’s the first plot covering Islamophobia. And how could I possibly not mention one of the most iconic episodes to date, White Wedding that features Spike and Snake getting married with most of their old Degrassi High friends in attendance. This episode also features the cutest most adorable first kiss between Sean and Emma that stole my heart in season 1 but gained OTP status by season 2. In essence, season 2 is the heart of Degrassi.

Degrassi NC5+6 Character Concepts - Abra Al’Maliki
So I’m starting with Abra in part to give you a sense of how I’m going to format things about these characters. Since Abra isn’t an original concept she gets a real name and other such things. She’s also the only one who will be firmly tied to a NC1-4 character. The reason is to avoid, well, avoid what happened with Adam.
So anyway, under the cut are the basic details of the character, which’ll be the framework for my other posts this week. This one will have notations to describe what I’m up to.
High Concept: “Syrian Girl Next Door” Trouble: “I just want to be accepted.”
I’ve mentioned my enjoyment of the way Fate Tabletop does character creation, and this is just flat stolen from the Fate system. High Concept is the core structure of who the character is, what makes them tick, why they do most things in life. Trouble is the aspect that gets them into the most trouble, if you remember back to my Character Flaws post... yeah, this is that.

Older Cast Connections
So of course the first and biggest dynamic between Abra and any NC1-4 character will be Saad. They’re siblings and they’ve been through a lot. The two are very reliant on each other to keep track of their younger siblings and each other. Generally if Abra needs advice, Saad is her first and only call. However, of course, she’ll have another connection because of Saad. See, Saad has someone new in his life, which both causes Saad to push more things on Abra, and just bothers her.
Now, Lola doesn’t actually mind Abra’s interference in her time with Saad. But it is a relationship between Abra and Lola as much as between Abra and Saad. Because Lola is, well, everything Abra likes about the west. She’s outgoing, popular, fashionable, and managed to make Saad social. She wants to spend time with Lola as much as she wants to keep Saad from leaving her behind.
It’s your tried and true sibling possessiveness stuff. Nothing too out there.
Newer Cast Dynamics
As a whole, Abra is just trying really hard to fit in, but her story will take what was an aspect of Goldi’s NC1-4 story and make it more central. The cultural divide. Remember, Abra and Saad are from a more rural area in Syria, compared to Rasha who seems like she was from a very urban and modern area. So she’s more removed from what everyone else has than she wishes. A little of the ‘lying and changing herself to fit in stories (like Leia failed at in TNG8-9, and they did for two episodes with Maya and the Rubber Room in S13).
Since I don’t have anyone else to talk about, I’ll keep this vague. She’s part of a Emma-Manny expie pair. She’s naturally the Emma in the cute and fun harmless way. And with one of the boys she’ll be the one crushed on (and not really have any interest in him).
So both of these sections cover the basic relationships at play, not really plots at play. I’m not going to try and come up with any specific plots just general things they can visit on. Each character needs a connection to current characters to really make them pop and maximize screentime. The reason being that if they stay in the 20 eps a year format they need all the work they can to make these characters functional and stand out.
Representation
Um... I think we know that she represents Syrian Muslims, right? Her fitting in drama is more important than her romance so she’s not coded as anything. People will assume straight because people but really her orientation isn’t on the agenda since she has no romantic plots other than ‘dealing with an unrequited crush.

THE DEGRASSI JUNIORS NOW TO BE SENIOORS
For a long time, the Juniors have been bashed, bashed and bashed again with basically everybody doubting their ability to carry the show on from the current Seniors who appear a much stronger cast of actors and written characters due to the substantial length of time that they have spent on the show. However, I really feel that this season truly let the Junior class shine. By the end of the season, each character was developing and demonstrating those open-minded qualities which Degrassi have always advocated. Unfortunately, this is easily over-looked (and a lot of the fans are overlooking this.) but lets go into a little detail. In terms of the acting, Degrassi is sorting, we have already seen that Spencer, Chelsea (we can presume that she will be returning.), Sara, Yael and Amanda are on top of their game and Parham, in particular, is a fantastic actor. The writing has been incredible and although, I once thought that Frankie, Hunter and perhaps, Shay or Lola would replace Maya, Zig and Miles/Zoe as the ‘mains’, it’s become kinda clear that if the Degrassi team are clever about this, Lola, Yael and Saad will become the ‘mains’, since - to me at least - they are currently the strongest and most impressively written and acted characters. As for the writing and storylines themselves, I honestly do not feel as if we need to worry - as I said, the character development of the juniors has been sizzling away in the background for the entire duration of season four ! Frankie is not as unbearable a character as she is being perceived - as many have pointed out, she was the only one who was noticing and trying to help Esme’s mental state until Maya spoke with the councillor. Next, Yael’s storyline was a huge step in character development of the gamer squad. For the first time, we actually see Baaz standing up for somebody without insulting someone else and we can see how he and Vijay’s words of warning to Hunter have had some kind of effect. And yes, Hunter may have been the ‘worst’ when it came to dealing with Yael’s non-binary but without providing excuses for his actions, we need to remember that these are seventeen year old kids who have not fully matured yet and he is coming from a very masculine-dominated background - when we criticise Hunter for being selfish and becoming angry over how Yael ‘affects’ his sexuality, aren’t we forgetting Mr. Hollingsworth’s denial of Miles’s sexuality ? Come on ! If we do look at promo photos and the background of the final scene, Hunter has his ARM AROUND Yael. This is hinting that some reconciliation could have occured and after seeing Hunter and Yael’s scenes together since her coming out, I really don’t think that they have broken up and I do believe that Hunter will come around to understand, but not for another few episodes if the writers are to be realistic, based on Hunter’s past and real life situations. Before this season, Hael were my ‘OTP’ and I do still ship them but only when they can separate their differences. The OTP now, of course, is Saad and Lola - I scream every time they appear on the screen, I am not even sorry. There is no point in me elaborating on why I ship them - I will be a mess ! Both bring so many qualities to Degrassi and since we have seen so much of Lola the past few seasons, she appears to bring the most and I just feel that the writing of her character and development is impeccable. Not only is she one of the most open-minded characters on the show, she is also an amazing role model. Despite befriending the gamer squad which consists of three and boys and the non-binary Yael and other characters stereotyping her as perhaps, air-headed, Lola has never changed her her love for makeup, etc. and her quirks. I really wish that I had had a role model like that when I was younger. I also think it is interesting that Lola has a lot more cop on than the rest of the gamer squad so it shall be fun to see how that turns out. The Senior class leaving also means more potential for interesting storylines ! A lot of the Seniors had been on Degrassi since late Season Eleven and as seasons go, when a character deals with a problem it is generally unlikely for Degrassi to deal with that problem again until said character has left the show, with the general exception of mental health, bullying, coming out, sex, etc. . This means that the writers now have a broader range of issues to tackle ! Obviously, we are heading into season five with Esme and possibly Hunter leading mental health, Saad with islamophobia and Yael with coming out. I’m expecting storylines revolving around an eating disorder, drug abuse, Autism or learning difficulties, sexual assault, parental difficulties, cancer and much more. Rasha and Shay have not had too large a storyline without their significant others so next season could be interesting. Personally, I can see Shay either dealing with drug abuse (this season hinted at it.) or being valedictorian. I also agree with a lot of fans who have been speculating over whether or not she will suffer some injury that jeopardises her athletic career ? Unlike Esme, Degrassi did not forge any links between Rasha and the other Juniors before the Seniors (who she is better acquainted with.) graduated which was a little strange to me. Nevertheless, I can see she and Lola being kindred spirits and Lola’s relationship (?) with Saad holds more hope for a friendship between the two since Degrassi will probably pull the whole “all refugees know each other” backstory but where were you this season, Rasha lol ? Besides that, Rasha is definitely headed for student council president in my eyes and I am so down for this ! As for Esme, we are going to have to see her mental health and backstory dealt with and loads are speculating Personality Disorder which would be such a good storyline as I don’t think Degrassi has addressed it before ? Perhaps, they may even write a variation of Fiona’s storyline and Esme could get her entire life back on track, becoming valedictorian ! The storylines for the current characters could be interesting. I’m presuming that Saad will join the gamer squad (if the others weren’t such asses, they would probably discover that they and he could be like-minded.) and he and Lola will date. It is difficult to make a good guess of what will happen for he and Lola individually considering that as so many have noted, they are both powerfully written and acted character when carrying their own storylines AND when involved in the storylines of others. Lola and Baaz has been hinted at since Season Three so it would honestly not surprise me if the writers tried to make them endgame, however, I adore ‘Sola’ and have always imagined Frankie and Baaz as a good match. At the end of the day, Degrassi always seems to have almost all of their graduating characters coupled up ! I almost forgot that Vijay existed until Episode Eight or Nine so here’s hoping that he actually plays a decent role in a storyline of his own or someone else in the next season ? He reminds me too much of how Winston was written. I would take a guess that Vijay would become Student President or Valedictorian but I also hoped this for Winston. I am guessing that if there is time allowed for it,Frankie could suffer from an eating disorder, come out as bi-sexual or be the victim of sexual assault. Before, I thought that Lola may have been to the forefront of such storylines, however, Degrassi is still redeeming Frankie’s character from Season Two and since there is no more Jonah or even Winston, it could be said that her character is at a dead end and being such a prominent character, the writers are more likely to give her one big storyline in Season Five and let her chill in the background for most of Season Six, like they did with Zoe and Miles - two characters who Frankie reminds me a lot of. Not only this, Frankie has clearly been having an identity crisis and self-esteem issues for so long that I can see a coming out or eating disorder storyline being inevitable. I can’t see the writers just letting her lay in the dust for her two final seasons. I also forgot to mention - pregnancies ! It feels as if we have not had one of these in forever but we did with Lola last season. Now, that should be ringing alarm bells in our heads. Girl squads which come in three and are to the forefront of the show have always experienced pregancies. Emma, Manny and Liberty. Alli, Jenna and Claire. Now, Lola, Frankie and Shay. We have already had an abortion storyline which leaves for a pregnancy scare, a miscarriage or a birth. And although, I believe that Degrassi portray teen pregnancies as being way more common than they, perhaps, are, it is practically a tradition they have going here with the girl squads and I’d lowkey be so disappointed to see them break it ! Like I said, I’m expecting Yael’s non-binary storyline to continue until they graduate, as well as Hunter coming to terms with this change but I can see them being endgame either romantically or platonically. I never thought that Maya, Tristan and Miles would hang out together again but here they are on amicable terms ! Hunter and Yael are such strong characters, as are their relationships with the characters around them very strong, so I’d be so let down if the writers weren’t to play with that. Having oppositional defiant disorder myself, I’d really like some closure on Hunter’s mental health. I don’t see him developing conduct disorder but I don’t see the writers blackholing his diagnosis either. As we have seen this season, the writers have obviously acknowledged the fact that the fans detest blackholing - wooooop ! Again, who knows what will happen with Baaz and Vijay ! Serious character development is needed and appeared to be happening this season so hopefully we will see more of that soon. Also - VIJAY IS THE ONLY LGBT GUY LEFT ON THE SHOW ! WHAAT ! This means that we will have a freshman dude who is a member of the lgbt community and I can SO see a parallel of Vijay and Tristan’s awkward date in Season One happening ! Degrassi, I don’t hold a Canadian citizen, but pls hire me xo P.S I am pretty sure that Season Five and Six were written last year so whatever was big in social and cultural news around then would be a great hint. This is like predicting Leaving Cert papers, ohmygosh.

Degrassi TNG, Degrassi, Degrassi Next Class
Thank you.
Degrassi TNG:
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?* This is hard. I understand where most fans are coming from when they like some of the more popular ships and can appreciate parts of the couple’s relationship even if I can’t stand them together. But I’ll admit Cranny and Crellie are lost on me. I think Craig treated both of them like dirt and Craig benefited much more than either girl did by being with him.
Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?* Palex. I try to get into them whenever I rewatch the episodes. It seems like it would be a great relationship, but they are so incompatible. The chemistry is there and I love their interactions mostly in season 4, but once they become romantically involved, all the mini fights they had where Paige was accidentally condescending and judgmental towards Alex increased. I want to like them, but both deserve someone who truly gets them.
Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion? Not for anything TNG.
Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?* Plenty. Some of them are, but most are ones everyone else also dislikes.
Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?* Not really. I may like Semma a little less now, but that’s about it.
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?* I’ve read arguments that made me reconsider my stance on couples and that caused me to give them another chance.
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?* Ugh, yes. My opinions changed many times because I was younger when I watched the early seasons. Cranny, Crellie, Parcy, Declan..
Have you received anon hate? What about?* Almost never for TNG. I remember one anon jumping on me for not still being upset about Spinner and Jay’s role in the shooting like 11 or 12 years later.
Most disliked character(s)? Why? Declan. He’s a creepy rapist who thinks he’s entitled to whatever he wants.
Most disliked arc? Why? It’s hard to say, so I’m just going to list the ones that come to mind. The end of season 4 was pretty bad. The Kevin Smith arc was misguided and I’m still bothered by how Joey and Caitlin were broken up. But other than that, it felt like I was watching a different show and everything felt too over the top. Even for Degrassi. :p I also hated Sean’s return to the show, including his reunion with Emma and the triangle with Peter. It felt like a waste of time and a total waste of Sean’s potential. I have no idea who season 6 Sean was, but it wasn’t seasons 1-4 Sean. By the end of season 6, I wasn’t that sorry to see him go. He only existed to be Emma’s boyfriend and I’m glad he was able to do his own thing for once. Thirdly, seasons 5/6 Crellie and how Ellie’s character was altered so it would make more sense. Lastly, the Spemma marriage. It’s not even about being upset about Semma or Spane. It’s just it made no sense for those two characters to get endgame under those circumstances and the writing did not support it.
Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? Ashley Kerwin. I honestly have no idea. I just do. She seems pretty inoffensive to me and I consider her to be a relatable character.
Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? I’ve seen a lot of backlash through the years for the adult story lines, i.e. Joey/Caitlin and Snake/Spike. Jaitlin is one of my favorite couples and I watched the original series, so their presence on the show never bothered me. I liked the handful of story lines they received. But it’s best they stopped featuring them after a while because no one wanted to see Snake cheat on Spike or Caitlin fool around with Jesse.
Unpopular opinion about XXX character? I feel like the only one that was never attached to Terri. She was a sweet character, but kind of dull. Probably one of the more forgettable characters from the early years.
Unpopular opinion about your fandom? Maybe that TNG had flaws and it’s unfair to criticize seasons 10-14 and NC for supposedly being inferior. I won’t argue the earlier seasons were the most real, but this show has had many ups and downs. No one is going to tell me seasons 8 and 9 are better than Next Class. Or even 6 over season 12. It’s all a matter of opinion, but like I said, the show has had a lot of ups and downs. But there’s never been a point where it’s incapable of being great.
Unpopular opinion about the manga/show? ^^
If you could change anything in the show, what would you change? Keeping many of the characters past their time. I don’t think any of the character returns (ex: Sean & Ashley) were successful and everyone knows the college story lines were awful.
Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen… I mentioned this to you before, but instead of Paige’s story line in Degrassi Goes Hollywood, I would have had her plot focus on discovering she’s HIV positive and how she’s going to deal with that. It would be sad to see it happen, but they left that plot thread dangling and Paige’s actual story line caused her character to regress for no real reason.
Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased? Of course not. Different people are going to interpret things differently. Even if you don’t hate something, sometimes you just don’t feel it.
What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? I feel like I’ve answered this question twice already. But something different is wishing there was more variety in opinions.
What is the purest ship in the fandom? Sellie
What are your thoughts on crack ships? They’re fun?
Popular character you hate? Declan
Unpopular character you love? Ashley
Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not? Yes. Some of the later seasons are hit or miss, but overall it’s a fairly realistic show that focuses on topics almost all the other teen dramas avoid. And if they do focus on them, the story lines are sensationalized.
How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX? Honestly, I’m okay with Degrassi continuing for the next few years. The show is very good at reinventing itself. Whenever it does end, I don’t even know that I’d want it to have a huge finale. Yes, they could blow up the school like Stefan or whoever suggested, but I feel like Degrassi is forever. There’s always going to be a group of students at that school getting into drama and having the shittiest luck in the world, even if we’re not seeing that. So maybe I’d have one class be the final graduating class we see attending Degrassi and then end it.
Most shippable character? Spinner? Paige, Darcy, Holly J, Terri
Least shippable character? Other than characters I hate, oddly enough, Manny. Just because I love her so much that I feel like no one is good enough. :p
Degrassi:
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?* Matlingsworth. Yeah, I’m biased, but I feel like Maya and Miles were very miserable together. They could never get on the same page about anything and I think it’s notable the Maya who was with Miles felt the least like Maya. It felt as if she was trying to be something she wasn’t and they make even less sense together when you remember the people they became in NC. Like if they were meeting for the first time during those years, I can’t imagine there being much chance they’d get involved.
Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?* Bhandallas. I don’t have much reason other than I thought they were more fun to watch before it was established Dallas liked her.
Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion? Yes. I’m petty like that.
Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?* Matlingsworth. Thankfully, no.
Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?* Yes. Camaya.
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?* No.
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?* Declan, Katie, Cam, Camaya & Zoe/boys
Have you received anon hate? What about?* LMAO. Plenty of things.
Most disliked character(s)? Why? Luke is my most hated character from any season, but that’s a given. Eli is my second most hated. He’s just the worst. I don’t feel like I have to go into detail. Just read a summary of all the terrible things he said and did to other people and that will explain why I hated and still hate him. Other than that, the fandom hyped him up so high it makes the blind love of any super popular NC character seem tolerable. I’m very glad he’s gone.
Most disliked arc? Why? PARIS. 13A. Because it was terrible. Most of it felt vapid. I still can’t believe we went from Zombie to the Miles/Zoe/Maya/Tristan love square and endless Alli/Leo plots. Not to mention Adam’s death.
Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? I’ve noticed him getting more love now that his character is off the show, but Drew. I see in him what I see in Zig. Like Zig, I think he’s someone that makes a lot of mistakes and is often ignorant, but he means well and never wants to intentionally hurt anyone. I always root for him to succeed.
Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? Cake’s relationship? They were sweet. They made each other happy. I hated how it was retconned that they were never in love. It’s fine for Eli to have loved Julia, but god forbid Clare love anyone except Eli. Even if you didn’t buy they were in love or disliked them, it still bothered me and Clare’s reasoning never made sense to me. If Clare didn’t know what love was during her relationship with Jake, she didn’t know what love was during her first relationship with Eli.
Unpopular opinion about XXX character? Cam wasn’t that great. Dylan did great with the role of Cam and his suicide story line was memorable, but Cam the character doesn’t compare to most of the other Degrassi characters. He definitely left an impact, but I also think Maya’s depression/suicide story line was better than his and she had better development.
Unpopular opinion about your fandom? I don’t think so. I think it’s generally agreed that our fandom can be terrible.
Unpopular opinion about the manga/show? Season 12, not season 10 was the best out of seasons 10-14. Also, 14B > 14A.
If you could change anything in the show, what would you change? I wouldn’t know where to begin. They made a lot of bad choices in season 13, so I’d rewrite most of that. I think actual focus on more than four characters would have helped and no one would have gone to Paris. That was silly. Adam would have become a foreign exchange student or volunteered in Kenya instead of being killed off. No love squares. We would have actually SEEN Zig getting involved with the gang and he wouldn’t have been absent for half the season. Etc.
Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen… ^^
Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased? See answer for TNG
What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? I think the fandom can be really hateful and unfortunately, it’s easy to get caught up in that and be rude back. It’s virtually impossible for all of us to get along and instead of one fandom, you end up with various cliques.
What is the purest ship in the fandom? Jonnor
What are your thoughts on crack ships? Like I said for TNG, they’re fun.
Popular character you hate? Eli & Katie
Unpopular character you love? Dave
Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not? I would for some of the same reasons I’d recommend TNG. In some ways, I think the last few years before the cancellation were better about representation.
How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX? See answer for TNG
Most shippable character? Dallas
Least shippable character? Luke, Eli & Katie
DNC:
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?* Hollingsong & Yunter
Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?* I don’t care if they’re friends, but Mola. I think once things got physical, it became complicated and Miles did not handle ending their fling well.
Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion? Rarely because the show is only on for two months out of the year, but sometimes over the top hate can be a turn off.
Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?* Yunter & Hollingsong. I wouldn’t call either popular. Almost no one ships the former and while the latter has fans, I wouldn’t call them popular. Most people ship Miles with Tristan or Lola.
Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?* Nothing I already shipped
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?* It made me reconsider Frankie/Esme. I never hated them, but I disliked it because Esme pretty much manipulated Zig and Frankie and their poly relationship was a joke because of the context and due to how long it lasted or didn’t last. Anyways, now I can see that Frankie/Esme has potential and even though I’m almost positive they won’t make Frankie anything but straight, I like the idea of them together. Esme did seem to care about Frankie as much as she could and I personally wouldn’t be that surprised if it came out Frankie had feelings for Esme just based on the way she sometimes acted around her. I don’t think she was remotely into the relationship due to any feelings for Zig.
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?* HUNTER. He’s pretty much been dead to me ever since 106.
Have you received anon hate? What about?* Yes. Different things. I’ll admit a small amount of it I brought on myself, but usually it’s just illogical stuff like going off on me because I dared to complain about the way Zig was being written.
Most disliked character(s)? Why? Hunter. I don’t like Vijay much either, but Hunter is one of my most hated Degrassi characters, period.
Most disliked arc? Why? Maya/Zig/Zoe/Grace. All of it. I’ve accepted it now, but I still think having Zig cheat on Maya was a cheap way to break them up and not much else. I especially resent the aftermath, but I’ve whined about that too many times. Then there’s Gracevas. The writers knowingly queerbaited and kept the audience in the dark up until after Zoe and Grace had sex and only then did we find out Grace was straight. I think it was a huge betrayal to Zoe and don’t think Grace was ever properly held accountable all because of how Zoe responded. Then there was the Grace/Zig mess. Practically no one bought that Grace had been into Zig whether they always thought Grace was gay or not. The story line almost tainted the rubber room kids’ friendship permanently, IMO, and I can’t believe I had to sit through Grace yelling at Maya all because Zig turned her down. Instead of, you know, fucking Grace and “trying” for her. Anyways, it’s no wonder the show never even hinted Grace had liked Zig after 209. Lastly, the mess with Maya/Zig/Zoe specifically. Maya and Zoe had been rivals in the past and while they didn’t always see eye to eye, I feel like they’d gotten to a place of understanding and it sucked to have all that development taken away for plot convenience. I can’t be totally happy they’re now on good terms again. Even if I do trust that Zoe isn’t going to screw Maya over again, I still wouldn’t rule it out TBH. And Zig/Zoe. I don’t know what happened in the woods. I don’t think the writers know, either, but whatever awful thing they did, Zig did not deserve to be filmed without his consent and that was brushed off so easily. It was sick. I blame the writers much more than I blame Zoe, but still. Anyways.. the actors tried, but this arc was trash and it’s a miracle most of these four characters ended the show on good terms.
Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? Goldi. I’m not passionate about her character and don’t feel like she ever fully lived up to her potential, but I think she was an enjoyable character. I don’t have specific reasons.
Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? Not any arcs, but there are some plots I like more than other people do. I really enjoyed Zig’s plot in 208 because it focused on his low self esteem and it was a necessary plot because we needed to see Zig finally attempting to move on from Maya.
Unpopular opinion about XXX character? I love Zoe, but she did not deserve to be valedictorian.
Unpopular opinion about your fandom? See answer for Degrassi
Unpopular opinion about the manga/show? I haven’t heard anyone saying this in a while, but (1) I don’t hate the theme song (2) this show should never, ever, ever go back to having 40 episode seasons. Seasons 13 and 14 should explain why that’s a bad idea.
If you could change anything in the show, what would you change? Other than the godawful Maya/Zig/Zoe/Grace arc, I’d probably extend the seasons by two episodes. I think they mostly do a good job with covering all that needs to be covered in 10 episodes, but I think having a little more breathing room might make things feel a little less rushed.
Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen… Instead of the writers “going there” and making Grace straight and into her best friend’s boyfriend, she should have been asexual and Gracevas should have become canon at the end of season 2. As much as I loved Zasha, they just didn’t have the connection Zoe had with Grace and it would have been amazing to see them getting endgame.
Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased? See answer for DTNG
What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? See answer for Degrassi
What is the purest ship in the fandom? Zasha & Laad
What are your thoughts on crack ships? See answer for DTNG
Popular character you hate? I don’t think I hate any popular characters.
Unpopular character you love? Tristan, Goldi & Zig (depending on the season)
Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not? YES. Next Class still has its flaws, but the show has improved a lot since its move to Netflix and the show has taken advantage of being able to tell their stories in a more mature way.
How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX? See answer for DTNG
Most shippable character? Zoe
Least shippable character? Hunter & Vijay

I just...honestly don’t understand how anyone can ship CS seriously? I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a boring romance in the history of television. And man, I’ve seen some shit. I stuck it through HIMYM until Ted finally met the frigging mother. I’ve watched numerous vapid teen shows from Pretty Little Liars to Gossip Girl to Degrassi. I even watched Masters of Sex, god help me. And to top it all off, I watched Moonlighting, and I wasn’t even born until the 90s. I HAVE SEEN IT ALL. And there is nothing on television as boring as Captain Swan. I mean Jesus, even married Jim and Pam were more interesting than this shit. When did they even get together? I remember they kissed in neverland...but since then it’s been a blur and I cannot remember one detail of their “courtship”. And ok, yes, fair, I haven’t been watching this show for detail in a long time since continuity went out the window a loooong time ago, but I feel like this relationship went from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds flat. Like sure Emma and HOok had their “playful banter” thing going on (i think?), but damn when did it go from that to turning him into the dark one against his will and springing him from the underworld? Was there a build up? Was there that rising romantic interest? I just remember Emma switching from one day being mostly neutral/mildly passive aggressive to Hook to LITERALLY sacrificing herself and her family for him. When the fuck did that happen? And shit, I’m saying all this stuff like it’s super dramatic, but it’s not! That’s what ultimately kills me. Their relationship is so boring. There’re no real feelings. There’re no real stakes. Every time Killian lies he gets forgiven immediately. Every time he does something shady he also gets forgiven immediately. EVEN WHEN HE DIES he gets brought back to life, immediately. Their relationship is just getting pounded into us without really being explained. What’s actually keeping these two together? Do they have common interests? What do they talk about when they’re alone? Why are they together besides the fact that Hook is the only single, straight, white male around Emma’s age available atm? Maybe I need to rewatch the last couple of seasons to figure it out, but I’m not doing that to myself. There are so many better thing to do with my time. Once Upon a Time, you are my garbage show and I love you for what you’ve been, but honest to God I’m not sure if I can keep watching if you keep promoting this boring ass romance. I thought one day I’d maybe stop watching because your plot was too insane or your continuity holes were too deep. I’m sad to say the reason might actually be because of a boring romance that sucked all the life out of you.

Opening up
Clare: smiled. “I hope that means it teaches stuff other than how to get a girl to sleep with you. Like how to treat women like human beings not sex objects. Of course I don’t think you need to be taught to respect women or about consent...but lots of boys do. Even our old principal the Shep had to take sensitivity training.” She mock gasped at Kota’s confession. “Unacceptable! It’s a dark toned fantasy with magic, dragons, and violent dynastic struggles among the realm's noble families for the Iron Throne. And it’s loosely based off real medieval European history. What’s not to love? We’re watching the first episode tonight. Please just give it a chance. I won’t make you watch more episodes if you don’t like it for some strange reason.” Clare gave Kota her best puppy dog eyes look. “Yeah. Connor gets that weird tofu crap from his sort of sister, Emma Nelson. So you’ve already done a survey?” She laughed. “We’ll make do. I like teriyaki chicken stir fry, rice and noodles, soup. Cauliflower soup is my favorite.” Clare named a few different types of food she could eat in Japan. “This trip just keeps getting better.” She proclaimed after Kota approved of date nights. It would be very nice to go out together on a regular basis with no friends or family tagging along. They’d still be spending plenty of time with Emi, Alli, Connor, Eli, K.C, Yohio, and the new friends they were going to make. “I won’t break up with you by kissing someone else.” Clare promised, scrunching up her nose. “Sounds like a really mean way to end a relationship. Even K.C. told me he wanted to break up before he ran off to makeout with Jenna. I don’t want to break up and I like your kisses best.” She squeezed his arm affectionately. “Thank you. There might be things I don’t recognize at all like meat dishes. Don’t let me eat shark either!” Clare nodded. “My parents will be impressed by your academic accomplishments. Winning them over completely is hard but not impossible. They love Alli, Adam, and Connor. K.C not so much. Eli not at all. Jenna they felt sorry for. Before she had a baby. Dad’s easier to get along with. Unfortunately, Mom is secretly in charge.” Her parents fought all the time now but Dad never came out the winner. Clare looked back and forth between Kota and Melanie curiously as the singer brought up a footballer player from school and Kota mentioned being busy during free periods. “No one became nasty about it?” She’d never witnessed anything extreme but Clare was often caught up with her own extracurriculars at school. “Awesome!” Clare told them after looking at the screencap of Jimmy Fallon. “Oh come on. It is.” She scoffed. As she got out of the car at the mall, Clare looked past Kota, staring at the boy. Did he go to Degrassi? She didn’t recognize him. What had he done to make Kota hate him so much? The boy looked harmless and the mention of Owen caused her to stiffen. Why was Kota standing up for the school bully? She didn’t understand any of this. Clare started to walk away with Kota and Melanie. The girls stopped soon as Kota did and Clare edged away from her boyfriend. She gave Melanie a confused look and motioned for the singer to stand out of the way with her. They heard every word of the argument and Clare was embarrassed. She NEVER thought she’d be grateful to see Owen but after he separated Kota and the boy from school, Clare decided Kota might have a better reason to be friends with Owen than she had to dislike him. “Yes, where do you want to go Melanie?” After Melanie decided, Clare turned back to Kota. “I want an explanation. Who IS that kid? What is going on?” She hissed in a whisper
Kota: sighed at Clare's question. "Sadly there's no class for that." he stated honestly. "Clare, I"m sorry, but I can't watch the episode with you tonight, I have a lot of stuff to do before the trip." he apologized. "I didn't really do a survey, it's just that they asked." he shrugged. "In Japan everything is made different. Teriyaki there is made with Sake, the alcohol is cooked out, but you can still taste it. We can have ramen too.. they top them with either a hard boiled egg or soft boiled, you can ask to leave it off and the ham comes in a whole slice off a ham you buy in the store for holidays." he said a little excitedly and kissed her cheek when she mentioned the trip getting better. "I'd hope you wouldn't leave me by kissing someone else." he laughed jokingly, he knew she was being honest and kissed her chastely. "I like your kisses most too." he smiled and laughed when she mentioned not letting her eat shark. "I don't eat shark and I won't let you eat cat, dog, turtle, sting ray, octopus, raw horse meat, fish sperm, or kimchi either. Unless you like fermented vegetables." he promised. "But I do like squid, fish, and other things you won't." he said honestly. "I'm glad I stand a chance. I mean I have a job too does that count?" he asked curiously. He looked at Clare when she asked about Todd. "He goes to our school, his name is Todd. He works on the yearbook, he takes pictures at the dances and school festivals for now." he said honestly and saw Anya walking towards him as they neared the mall. "You said I can talk to you, right?" she asked curiously. "Yea, but can we talk later?" he questioned motioning to Clare and Mel. "Can I stay over?" she asked. "I'll text my mom. You'll probably have to share a room with my sister." he said and texted his mom only for her to hug him. "By the way, Todd is in the parking lot. I almost beat the shit out of him." he admitted. "And you'll get charged with assault." she said. "I'm going to school with a fucking rapist and I can't hit him a few times?" he asked a bit sarcastic. "You can't sleep in your own room, I can't get the images out of my head. Every time I see him I want to beat the fuck out of him and Simpson just wants to ignore it because the cops won't do shit." he fumed. "They searched his house." Anya shrugged. "I'm going to get the pictures one way or another, I promise you that." he huffed as Anya walked off and he looked at Clare. "Yea, we're going to school with a known rapist and since the cops ignored it so Simpson is too. How do I know Todd raped her? She was completely drunk and I went to check on her since she told me she wasn't feeling well and was going to lay down in her room, I walked in to see Todd on top of her taking pictures as he raped her. I threw him against the wall and went to hit him, but Drew pulled me off of him as Owen called the cops. We can't find the pictures and without them there's no proof." he explained.

Counting Down The 10 Most Shocking Moments From My Favorite TV Shows
So I just finished Jane the Virgin and it inspired me to make a list of moments in television that had me fucking SHOOK. Maybe some other things happened in the show that were just as crazy but these are the moments that affected me personally. This list was so spontaneous but it might be my favorite one cause it was a nice trip down memory lane. Any who, here are the moments that have fucked me up along the years!
WARNING: LOTS AND LOTS OF SPOILERS!!!
10. Gossip Girl: The Dark Prince
Tumblr media
Let’s be clear Gossip Girl stopped being the show it was by season 4 by adding insane story lines but one that was realistic was Queen B marrying a real life prince! Although there are some minor hiccups Blair finally has the dream wedding she always wanted. Unfortunately everything comes crashing down when Louis basically tells her that she means nothing to him and the marriage is now just for show. This SHOOK me cause Louis was such a good guy until that exact moment. Ugh the moment he whispered those vile words to Blair her heart dropped and so did mine.
9. Elite: So who’s actually dead?
Tumblr media
From the beginning it was clear that one of the promiscuous teens of Elite was going to die it’s just not who you’d expect! In the first episode you find out that it’s none other than Marina! She was such a big part in the first episode I didn’t think her character would be the one to kick the bucket. Yes I am aware that the real mystery of the show is who’s the murderer but Marina being dead threw me for a loop.
8. On My Block: The Quinceañera from Hell.
Tumblr media
On My Block is supposed to be funny and it was until the last fucking episode of season one. Ruby decides to throw his crush Olivia a Quinceañera and everything goes smoothly, she even gets to face time her parents that got deported, until Cesar’s past comes to crash the party. Let me explain. Cesar finally joined his brother’s gang and had the job of executing Latrelle who’s from an opposing gang. Cesar is too sweet for his own good and lets him live. Unfortunately Latrelle shows up to Olivia’s Quinceañera, uninvited, and fires at Cesar but hits Ruby and Olivia in the process. In the end of the episode two ambulances are on their way to the hospital and ones lights go off indicating one of them has died. At the beginning of season two we finally find out that Olivia has passed which is sad and like talk about the worst birthday party ever!
7. Pretty Little Liars: Boo!
Tumblr media
There were literally 100 different A’s on this god forsaken show but the final A reveal was definitely the best. Spencer and Ezra have been kidnapped by A in a weird underground whatever thing and Spencer wakes up to her reflection only it’s not her reflection ITS HER TWIN. The elite PLL fans like myself always had theories of Spencer having a twin but when it actually happened I couldn’t believe my eyes. When Alex puts her hand down and says “boo!”... chills literal fucking chills.
6. Vampire Diaries: Dead girls walking.
Tumblr media
I could honestly make a list of the top ten shocking moments from the Vampire Diaries alone but this one had 15 year old me shaking in my Ugg boots. Jeremy’s first love Vicki died in season one, which was like WILD for 2009 let me tell you, and his other lover Anna also died. In the season two finale we see two shadows walking around following Jeremy in his house and they’re none other than Vicki and Anna looking straight at Jeremy and even speaking to him. At this point in the show people coming back from the dead was unheard of and this is why it beat everything else.
5. Dark: What REALLY happened that night?
Tumblr media
Ok so Dark has a lot of WTF moments like the entire show is a total mindfuck but in season 2 they answered a question and I was not prepared for the answer. Let’s back track realllll quick. Mikkel goes missing in the woods one night and no one finds him BUT Mikkel is alive and well he’s just in the year 1986! In the cave he went through there was a wormhole that took him to the past but the question was, how the fuck did he even end up there!? In the last episode of season two Jonas, Mikkel’s son (I know it’s confusing) goes back in time to stop Mikkel from disappearing to make everything right. Jonas talks to his dad, adult Mikkel, and Mikkel drops the bomb that Jonas was the one to lead him to the fucking wormhole in the first place!!! Everything about this show is absolutely insane but I mean this shit was INSANE. I literally could not believe what I was hearing and honestly neither could Jonas.
4. Jane the Virgin: Have a nice day bae!
Tumblr media
Michael begins his day going to take a test and he doesn’t come back. I am so team Michael just so y’all know so I loved the flashbacks of the fair with Jane this episode. What I DIDN’T like was the end of this episode. When Michael “died” I dead ass did not watch the rest of season 3 until it was streaming on Netflix. I sobbed so bad and then at the end of the episode when Jane gets the phone call that Michaels “dead” WOW that shit HURT. Thankfully I decided to keep watching the show cause at the season 4 finale Michael is alive and well but has a little amnesia. I literally will never forgive the writers for ripping my heart out and stomping on it.
3. American Horror Story: Running in circles.
Tumblr media
Violet tried to kill herself and Tate saves her by making her throw up except, she didn’t actually survive. Violet is depressed and stays home and it’s not until she tries to leave the house do you realize she’s actually been dead for a couple episodes. Its heartbreaking cause she’ll be stuck in that house forever but the moment you see her dead corpse was absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking at the same time.
2. Skins: Where’s Cook’s main hoe?
Tumblr media
When Skins came back for a 7th season wrapping up the lives of Effy, Cassie, and Cook I thought we were gonna get some closure but what I got from Cook’s episodes was very unexpected. There’s honestly a lot going on in Skins Rise but Cook’s second episode has him facing off his psychotic boss Louie. Let me give a little backstory. Cook deals drugs for Louie but Louie made Cook drive his girlfriend Charlie around. Cook being Cook fucks Charlie while simultaneously cheating on his own girlfriend Emma which makes it super awkward when the three of them runaway together to get away from a psychotic Louie. Before Cook absolutely beats the shit out of Louie he’s in the woods looking for Emma and he fucking finds her in a clearing HANGING on a tree!!! Like WHAT THE FUCK!!! Skins has never been THAT brutal and I honestly think it was the most jaw dropping moment that ever happened on the show. God I love Skins but I did NOT love that death like can my baby Cook just be happy!?!
1. Degrassi: The Next Generation: A night to forget.
Tumblr media
I was 13 the first time I got my heart broken, the perpetrator, Degrassi: The Next Generation. I was OBSESSED with this show I watched it from the very beginning. JT was my literal MAN like I loved him so much and when they CRUELLY killed him off I legit didn’t want to go to school the following Monday. JT dying is number one because it was my first big TV death and I’ll never forget it along with Liberty’s blood curdling screams.
