Comfort Movie Tag!
Rules: post 10 of your favorite comfort movies and then tag 10 people or as many as you want ❤️
Thank you for the tag dear @mcbeanzontoast ❤️
It was hard at first to make a list, but here are 10 movies (they are in no particular order and I added some details about why I chose them) that help me distract from the horrors of reality 🤣
The LOTR Trilogy: (yeah, I'm doing the same of @mcbeanzontoast and counting it as one film) I love this trilogy SO MUCH. It touches my heart in so many different ways, I love the characters, the way it was filmed, the soundtrack, and how at many moments it gives me hope - this trilogy is a gem and warms my heart
Matrix: Another movie that I love, not only for the lore, the philosophy, and the journey that Neo has to go through… but also Trinity's love confession to Neo is one of my favorites.
The Lion King: This is the first movie I remember watching in my life, and it holds a special place in my heart - while I love watching it, I'll cry for Mufasa my whole life xD And it taught me the best motto ever: Hakuna Matata! 🤣
Letters to Juliet: This is my go-to movie when I want to watch a cute enemies-to-lovers story or to get emotional to see lovers that after years apart find their way to each other again - I've watched it so many times, and I love it!
The lake house: I love this movie! Not only because I loved Keanu and Sandra's chemistry but because that's the kind of story that makes me believe that love that is meant to be will be.
Ghost: Love that transcends life? How can I not love it?
Enchanted: Giselle is so sweet and innocent, I love the way she sees life, and seeing her growing and blooming during the movie and see both her and Robert finding love is a nice distraction for moments when life gets too heavy!
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind: This is such a powerful movie for me! I think it's because it somehow shows an 'imperfect' couple, they are different, they go through struggles, their relationship is not perfect… but it's real. They care deeply about each other and even with everything that happened, they are still attracted somehow by each other, as if it was inevitable. Seeing Joel revisiting the memories and noticing the small details that made each moment special is beautiful, and at the end, the "Okay" moment, where they accept the flaws, even knowing that their relationship may be doomed. Still, they want to give it a go anyway… oh my, that gives me hope. And ever since I had that dream where Joseph Quinn was playing the role of Joel, I loved it even more.
Lilo and Stitch: I love this movie, and I love Stitch so much! It's a fun movie, and it's heartwarming!! And Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten ❤️
Put here any Christmas/holiday love movie from Netflix; such sweet distractions 🤣
No pressure tags as always ❤️: @jamdoughnutmagician @imaslutforcuddles @big-ope-vibes @aftermidnightwriting @painisforsundays @musicmoviestv @becca-alexa

My Top 5 Direct to Video Disney Movies (Not Accepting Criticisms)
5. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
Tumblr media
The film that inspired me to make this list in the first place. This was one of the few direct to VHS sequels (more like midquel) I owned as a child and one I have very fond memories of. The "Stories" song is constantly stuck in my head, as a child who used reading as an escape it really spoke to me. The reason it's number 5 though despite all of this is Maestro scared me as a kid and rewatching it the other day, he still gives me the willy nillies.
4. Jungle Book 2
Tumblr media
Not one I had as a child so it's not clouded by nostalgia, I actually watched this one later in my teen years. If you were to ask me would I rather watch the original Jungle Book or this, I'd choose this every time. This film actually made me fall in love with the character of Mowgli and gave amazing depth to Shanti's character, which I really appreciate. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember it being a thoroughly enjoyable romp through the jungle.
3. Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
Tumblr media
So I'm going to preface this by saying I also had this VHS as a kid. I've always been a sucker for the romance between Kiara and Kovu, even as a kid it made me swoon and I really think the music in this one is off the charts good. Love Will Find a Way, Upendi and We are One are some of my favourite songs not just in the Disney catalogue, but in general. The only reason this isn't higher is because number 2 has a deep personal connection that this couldn't possibly conquer. Still, this deserves a watch if you haven't seen it! It expands on the classic characters so well and does such a good job at making the new ones seem like they've always been there.
2. Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Tumblr media
Aladdin was one of my favourite movies as a kid, and by extension this film. Like I mentioned in my Lion King 2 paragraph, Aladdin and the King of Thieves has a special place in my heart. Growing up I always felt outcasted and like I didn't belong, so the character of Aladdin spoke to me hardcore. This movie really spoke to me as a child of adoption as well, not knowing where I come from and wishing to understand the parts of me/know where I came from. Out of Thin Air is one of my favourite Disney songs because of that. But also, Robin Williams back as the Genie and finally the Aladdin/Jasmine wedding!!!! This movie is the perfect ending to the Aladdin trilogy.
Peter Pan: Return to Neverland
Tumblr media
And finally we've reached my number one pick! This again is another movie I never owned as a child, but watched in my teen years when I was trying to catch up on some movies I missed as a child. I love Jane Darling, I love how they tie her disbelief in Peter Pan to World War 2 and having to grow up too fast. And finally, I love how Peter and Jane interact. Their interactions are perfect and this movie so perfectly fleshes out the character of Peter Pan. Again, this is a movie I would rather watch then it's original every time and that's saying something! Truly a gem of a film!

Hi philosopher
Multi-part question. Fo you ever see a trope (on tumblr, in media, etc) and think "oh I wanna include that in a story" or "I wanna do a twist on this" and then do you, most of the time, actually include it or just hoard it in your stash for an ambiguous later?
hello sleepy <3
yes i do! i see tropes a lot that i love or want to twist / do my own take on.
and i both actually include it AND hoard it in the stash~
when i was working on the enchanted gems trilogy in high school, i actually saw a post that inspired me to take the series in a totally different direction that planned, and it made me fall in love with the idea even more!
however i see a lot more things that i want to write than i actually have the time / energy / motivation for so! most of them go in the hoard <3

“Ultimately, it is very apparent this novel was noticeably, lovingly, and carefully crafted by a Prequel fan, a Padmé fan, a Handmaiden fan... Queen's Shadow is a fitting tribute.”
Queen's Shadow had a somewhat impossible task for me as a handmaiden “super fan,” a potentially “tough critic,” so I commend E.K. Johnston for willingly providing me with an early copy to share my thoughts on it with you all... I was nervous about how Queen's Shadow would turn out to be honest, but EKJ was up to the task...
I'll preface this review by saying Handmaidens were my first real community engagement in fandom. My older sister and I joined the Royal Handmaiden Society on TheForce.Net boards back around 2001 when I was about 14. The RHS was the reason I went to my first convention (Celebration II) and although the group isn't as present online as it once was (please follow @royalhandmaidensociety), I made life long friends and it forever shaped and changed me. It was an overwhelmingly positive fandom experience at a very impressionable age and for that I'm forever thankful...  So for those of us who have such deep roots to this, who have, for the past 20 years, analyzed the handmaidens’ every micro expression, every costume, and have carved out our own understanding of them (from what little information that would could find), this book might be a bit "complicated " to process.

At least it was for me.
With the announcement of Queen's Shadow, I was of course initially ecstatic, validated even, that they/we were being seen and heard, finally!! Yet mixed feelings slowly sunk in too. Despite us RHSers long lamenting the lack of content—handmaidens unjustly being overlooked in both Star Wars official media and for a long time in mainstream fandom—it also became this amazing small community space for each of us to freely imagine and play in. It’s been a kind of safe haven I've come to greatly appreciate. With a book featuring them... That could all potentially change. This fandom could change. I found myself wondering a few weeks ago, "Will I even like these girls? Will I love these new versions of Eiraté, Rabé, Sabé...” Something I've previously never had to consider. My fictional friends were about to be exposed on a larger than ever level, and reshaped, officially, forever. I was worried.

I knew I had to go into this book open minded, no way could EKJ take each one of our different headcanons and fantasies and appease us all in one ultimate text—but to my surprise, there were certainly select striking scenes, moments, I had while reading, where (for me) she did accomplish just that.

After both the prologue and the first chapter in particular (which were centered around my favorite Handmaidens, from TPM), I had to put the book down for a while because I was so overwhelmed in the best kind of way. It truly was so close to capturing what I have wanted all these years that I just wanted to bask in it. Maybe that sounds silly but even simply one chapter filled with handmaidens, is an overwhelming amount of content for us to receive, let alone an ENTIRE book. This little fandom is just so used to excavating for scraps. I reread the beginning of the book again the next day, out of pure enjoyment, before I continued on.

The unbelievable news, the great news... Something I can't believe even is real... Is that Queen's Shadow starts with handmaidens and ends with handmaidens, and there are handmaidens in… NEARLY? Every. Single. Chapter. I really never thought I'd never see the day. I’m stunned. Yes, they are different then I imagine them, but I'm happy to see them, I still like them, just the same. And Padmé, who has also been sorely ignored, unappreciated, and underutilized within general Star Wars media/merchandise, is also finally getting the spotlight she deeply deserves.
Queen's Shadow is woven like an intricate tapestry threading together Padmé's stories throughout the entire prequel trilogy (especially the first two films), and highlights some of my favorite stylistic and thematic choices within them. Similar to the prequels (especially TPM) it reminded me of a period drama, with it's more formal dialogue, richly detailed costumes, ceremonies and politics, and admittedly a more contemplative pace than the swashbuckling fairy tales of the OT (but still engaging in it's own way). Also like the prequels, you get that occasional ominous foreboding, that sense of pieces being moved behind the curtains by shadowy figures, of unclear motivations by supposed "allies," of tragic destinies being spun—but still find yourself swept away by moments of hope and idealism, despite it all.  There is a particularly heartbreaking yet beautiful finale moment of this book with her that was so fitting to George Lucas' vision of Star Wars, it was, as he once said, "like poetry—it rhymes." Anytime something can capture that Lucas approach to storytelling, I am thankful to be reminded of why I loved Star Wars in the first place. (Especially in the Disney era years when I've felt a bit "post break up" about the franchise, to be honest.)
Queen's Shadow is foremost about Padmé's work, shifting and hardening herself into her new role as senator. It does justice to the themes and qualities that originally enchanted and inspired me about her: fulfilling her duty to her people, her compassion for vulnerable communities, and fighting for what's right—through language, through political and inner power, strategy, and unexpected partnerships. And as always, Padmé is luminous.
There is one cause in particular she is advocating for that is notably poignant in its connections to TPM. I was incredibly pleased it was there, relieved even. It was so important and needed for her character. It enriches the choices she makes in the later films. And it is just one of a number of political themes in the book that are timeless and ever relevant, but wasn't inserted into the story in a heavy-handed way. I love that the main audience for this book (young girls), will get these meaty concepts presented to them through our beloved political heroine and the diversely talented women supporting her.  While we do see the various skills and character moments of Padmé and her handmaidens, I admit (and this is just my first read impressions) they all still did feel somewhat at a distance for me. I personally would've liked to have dug deeper into their personalities. I'm not sure how to properly articulate it, but I just felt a bit left "wanting more"—for more walls to come down, to have gotten further into their inner thoughts... But I think it's partly the challenge of the large number of characters, the book’s YA length, and a personal preference of writing style. Which, in EKJ’s defense, does compliment these particular characters, who have long had these kind of untouchable, unknowable presences, these masks over them (and she does address that). I think as I reread it, my feelings on may improve as I retain all the subtleties better. But if they remain elusive, that gives us room to fill it out with our own head canons, which is something many of us all ~clearly~ enjoy! It is part of their appeal, part of why we first loved them after all.
It's also important to note the impressive attention to various Star Wars lore that is entwined throughout Queen's Shadow, from remnant gems of "Legends" handmaiden lore (and even RHS in jokes), to architectural details found in Battlefront II, to various appearances by Clone Wars characters... And many more I’m sure I’ve missed. Yet thankfully I can't recall any of it is done in a way that comes off as showy, elitist, or hard to follow (if for example, you're like me and admittedly haven't watched hardly any of the Clone Wars).  Additionally, here and there, there were some scenes or lines that didn't quite hit the mark for me personally, one minor set of changes from "Legends" handmaiden ages irked me a bit (we had so little to cling to ok! lol), frustration at already established lore (such as Panaka and Clovis, which EKJ can’t help), and other things that were simply just creative choices of the author (which of course happens for me with almost every Star Wars spin-off).

Regarding the last point, that was the only other occurrence where I put the book willingly down, this time because I needed to get some space—to process something I decidedly didn't like. It was about midway through the book regarding a particular minor storyline. I don't want to spoil, but I will say it involved a new character that, for me, was taking up too much room in a book that already had plenty of amazing characters I wanted to spend more time with. I just felt he wasn’t exactly needed, or that others easily could've substituted his place and it would've been more meaningful to the lore.  These critiques are relatively minor however, and most of them are easy to move beyond, especially when I consider the bigger picture, and the majority of scenes, quotable lines, and pivotal interactions in Queen's Shadow that do seamlessly work. Those more than make up for the handful of things I struggled with.

Ultimately, it is very apparent this novel was noticeably, lovingly, and carefully crafted by a Prequel fan, a Padmé fan, a Handmaiden fan. For this I'm deeply thankful, because it's easy to imagine if it wasn't—How poorly or sloppily Padmé could've been mischaracterized or the possible omission and/or confusion regarding the handmaidens… The latter of which BOTH the revered Dave Filoni and Timothy Zahn are woefully guilty of, (full offense). It hits me sometimes how so much damage could've been done were this in less capable, less attentive hands, with an author that would've cared less. EKJ clearly cared a lot. Minor issues aside, that's really what mattered most to me, at the root of it. So I'm very glad.

The more open minded you go in, the more you will enjoy Queen's Shadow, and (I say this for myself, as much as for anyone else who can relate) we can still make space for and enjoy our old head canons alongside to the new lore, or even mesh them together... I admittedly struggled a few times, but I definitely enjoyed reading it overall, particularly all the scenes on Naboo (and another planet that will go unnamed for now)...

If you love Padmé, the handmaidens, Naboo culture, prequel politics—this book is a must read. The more time that passes, and as I reflect back, the more I feel that Queen's Shadow is a fitting tribute to Padmé and our handmaidens, let alone the prequel era itself. Queen's Shadow will be comfortably situated on my bookshelf beside our other established classics: Queen Amidala's Journal and Queen's Amulet, and I’m looking forward to revisiting it again when the audiobook comes out (holy heck we're finally gonna hear almost all the handmaiden names pronounced??! Have we been saying them "correct" all these years?? Stay tuned lmao...) I'll probably be posting my spoiler thoughts on Queen's Shadow after the book's release on March 5, 2019. Pre-orders are available online, though I really recommend purchasing it at your local independent book store if you can, and/or requesting your local libraries get a copy! Please share your own pictures/thoughts/reviews on here, twitter, instagram etc. and tag it. We gotta encourage Disney to give us more, because this book definitively ends with an invitation for a sequel or spin off of some sort, and I, a bit desperately, want it!!  The more we can support Queen's Shadow with the language Disney knows best ($$ and exposure) the better chance of future Padmé and handmaiden content, and they deserve it!! All of it—books, comics, Disney+ streaming miniseries, video games—Give them the legacy Rogue Squadron got. It's their time.

Again, thank you so much E.K. Johnston for creating this beautiful book, and going out of your way to provide me a copy. I'll always treasure that moment when I got that surprise package in the mail, a book nearly 20 years in the waiting. I was 12 years old again, that snowy day on my porch.

Can't wait to read everyone's thoughts. MTFBWY. ✨✨✨

THE HEAD WIZARD OF THE WATER COVEN AND THE GUARDIAN OF THE HEART-SHAPED SEA
Ah! Fair days eternal Ocean Master Beviga Komossis! I knew it would be a matter of time before the Call of the Heart-Shaped Sea unites us! And to you too Master Said Al-Mi’rat As-Salam! Pray, I knew my brethren had downplayed the Crystal Dragons’ role in the Universal Oceans all these while but entreaty
Elder One! For I’m in a desperate need of your help! I guess with all the trouble you took to find me here I’m wont to lend you my ear Water Wizard! Speak up!  What do you know about Viceroy Admantia and his son Hafiztri? (Sigh) That Dark Legionnaire blurred the line between good and evil when last I saw him!
A dragon bereft of magick, he sought to revive his nearly dead son with our most sacred of magick, hence he appeared before me quite unlike what I heard of him in truth! Please tell me more Al-Mi’rat? Like his father Hafiztri was also born without magick, like Admantia he made up for it by dabbling in technology
Which of course angered the people of Clurantia, always demanded that he stop his heretical inclinations or else! With his father banished he carried on with his passion unperturbed right until he made his first interstellar ship--and were tried for heresy at the same time! Sentenced to death by ketheric mana depletion
His grandfather Sage Kanzrun (the most venerable dragon on Clurantia) asked him before the execution to choose between his passion and the will of his home-world...he chose the former! Hence the Di-Vicordium Quartzite is lit and the judge passed his cruel sentence, watching as the boy’s life-force is slowly
And painfully drained from his body! Damnation! (Sigh) The Shudwa Dumanta Legion invaded the planet and Admantia rushed in, crushed that Soul Gem crystal but alas! Three-quarters of his boy’s soul is gone...Hafiztri’s as good as dead! Enraged he killed off everyone with Dark Energy bombardment, nearly
Tore Clurantia apart if it wasn’t for (Shaik’s consort) Shadow Lady Eliza to had stopped him! So he relented and, upon her advice, he came to me for a vial of Cold Water From the East! I told him only the Sacred Spring-water Of Ambi-Valia can fully restore his son’s life but he so pleaded, managed to save him
At a cost of that poor boy lapsing into a coma! And you gave him that enchanted raindrop? Like I said, the manner of his asking was less of an arrogant monster but more of a desperate father trying to save his child...so I gave in! Pray, why’s the sudden interest in that Legionnaire’s story Master Head Wizard? (Sigh)
(*Find out more about Viceroy Admantia, Hafiztri and Sage Kanzrun by reading my second and fourth sci-fi fantasy novel “Echoes In The Wind Trilogy” and “Portal Kayangan - A Dragon’s Tail”, now available if you know where to look)

Book series I would 100% recommend
Anne of Green Gables:
classic slice-of-life story about a young orphan girl who is adopted by an elderly brother and sister pair. Series follows her as she grows up in Avonlea and has to leave her childhood behind her. The last few books focus on her children. :)
Wicked Lovely series:
An urban fantasy series about faeries living in a fictional city in modern-day U.S. Book 1, Wicked Lovely, features Aislinn, a young woman who can see faeries and is afraid of them. One day she discovers that a faery monarch is hunting her and she tries to figure out how to stop him and resume her normal life.
The premise of the series is that faeries live hidden in our world and only a few mortals can see them. Most of these faeries are part of faery courts. There are four faery courts at the beginning of the series: the Summer Court, the Winter Court, the Dark Court and the High Court. Each court has its own traits and needs that are unique to them. For example, the faeries in the Summer Court are very joyful and carefree and need happiness to remain strong, and the Dark Court faeries feed on strong negative emotions such as fear and lust (and are also the faeries who view family as most important and precious).
Each book focuses on different characters who have to deal with growing conflict between the fey courts, relationships, change and the consequences of what happened in previous books. I like how each book has three or four main POV characters that narrate events in the story, as it gives us different perspectives on story events and characters.
There are themes of choice present. Each book stresses how important choices are, as characters make difficult and sometimes impossible choices to look after their court or someone they care about or even themselves. Balance is an integral theme in the story as well. Each faery court has a court that opposes them, and each monarch must have a corresponding monarch to balance them, lest they become mentally unstable.
Kushiel’s Legacy:
A set of three trilogies set in one fantastical world. The main setting is Terre D’Ange (fantasy version of France), where people are descended from angels and follow a precept of ‘love as thou wilt’. The first trilogy is about a courtesan/spy named Phedre who is cursed to feel pleasure and pain at the same time. At a young age she is adopted by a wealthy noble who uses her to spy for him. She eventually becomes involved in the political intrigues of Terre D’Ange and seeks to unravel deep-laid plots that threaten it.
The second trilogy focuses on Imriel, the son of two traitors. It’s a coming-of-age story, as Imriel has to deal with people’s mistrust and fear and learn how to navigate life as a royal prince. It’s also about love and finding yourself and dealing with trauma and loss.
The third trilogy is about an Alban young woman named Moirin, who is half-D’Angeline and has magical powers from both sides of her ancestry. She travels to Terre D’Ange to meet her biological father and ends up on a quest to the Far East. This trilogy is set 100 years after the second one.
Deltora Quest/Three Doors trilogy/Rowan of Rin:
A group of series set in the same fictional universe. Deltora Quest follows three companions as they go on a quest to free their kingdom from tyranny by finding the gems to the Belt of Deltora. Three Doors trilogy is about a boy named Rye who goes searching for his brothers after they go missing while trying to get rid of an enemy that is menacing their home city. He ends up inheriting a bag of charms and helps uncover a mystery.
Rowan of Rin is about a young boy named Rowan who is an oddity in his village (as he is physically weak and sensitive compared to everyone else who are tough and warrior-like) and is bullied because of it. One day the stream near their village runs dry and Rowan is forced to accompany the heroes that go up the Mountain to fix it. It turns out that Rowan is the person they need most of all.
Howl’s Moving Castle trilogy/Chrestomanci Chronicles:
Fantasy children’s books by Diana Wynne Jones. Chrestomanci Chronicles deals with problems that children may face, such as child abuse, manipulation and neglect, as well as other stuff like not being taken seriously by adults and going to school. Howl’s Moving Castle is more fairy-tale like and is about accepting yourself, growing in confidence and finding your own path in life, while dealing with curses and enchantments.
Lumatere Chronicles:
A trilogy focused two kingdoms who are cursed and in conflict with one another. First book focuses on Lumateran exiles as they try to return to their cursed homeland and retake it from the enemies who took over it. The second two books focus on the aftermath of the events of the first book and deal more with themes of racism and discrimination. They also focus more on Charyn (the enemy kingdom who takes over Lumatere in the first book).
My favorite books are the last two (Froi of the Exiles and Quintana of Charyn), because I love the new characters introduced in them. I love how a lot of the characters in these books are very flawed and broken but still love fiercely and live their lives to the fullest. I love how they strong they are and how they never succumb to their their trauma and heartbreak and they just keep going.
All of the books in this trilogy are hard reads, because they focus on very difficult topics (particularly trauma), but they are worth it. The characters in these books are very inspiring and human and I really love that about them. :D
The Gallagher Girls:
A series about a group of female spies-in-training who study at a school for spies in Roseville, Virginia. The books focus on Cammie Morgan (a pavement artist) as she finishes her final years of high school. First two books are pretty light-hearted, but the last four are darker and deal with more serious issues and conflict. There’s also a lot of good female representation and how women can be empowering and awesome.

wip re-intro: sapphire dreaming
Aura has known she doesn’t belong in Middell for as long as she can remember. Now, thanks to a mysterious visitor, she finally has a chance to leave. But first, she has to get her hands on a birthright that has eluded her since she was old enough to go searching for it.
genre → young adult/new adult fantasy
themes → found family; friendship; magic; belonging; self-discovery status → second draft || first in a trilogy est. length → 75k
[ id: two images side by side. the left is a person’s hand holding a blue crystal / gem, over a wooden table. a bowl of green leaves has been mostly cropped out. the second is a blond woman with her hair over her face, standing in front of a campsite in the forest. she is wearing an orange shawl, with one hand tucked closer to her stomach and the other extended. both are overlaid with a blue & pink-y filter, and edited to look like an oil painting. at the top of both is text reading: Enchanted Gems Book One. then, the title of the book in a script font reading Sapphire Dreaming. and beneath that, Livvy Moore. ]
(Sorry the image description is so low! I’d like to have put it in alt-text, but I don’t know how to do that on desktop D:)
So, I’m having some issues with The Martyr Queen, and I’m not quite up to writing my sci-fi wip, so I thought it was time to turn back to an old-ish wip. This is the first wip I ever finished a first draft of... though the plot of the original needed a major tweak. (Especially since I decided to add some plot points to the second two!)
I’ve talked about this on here a bit before, when I was still pretty new to using this blog as a writeblr... but it’s been long enough that I’m starting fresh!
Summary and character intro’s below the cut :D

summary
Aura Laevis is an infamous thief, known as the Sapphire Dream, renowned for stealing gems (mainly sapphires) that are rumored to have even the slightest bit of magic in them. But this is not normal thievery. She’s looking for the three enchanted sapphires, which belong to the light gem keeper---or, rather, which belong to her. They went missing, long ago, and she needs them to claim her birthright, and to return to a home that she’s never seen. Her mission, however, seems doomed to fail: especially with dark gem keeper, Corintha Voclain, there to thwart her at every step.
That changes one stormy night when Aura’s home, an adventurer’s inn in the middle of the Wynria forests, is visited by a woman claiming to be from Fayvale. She knows where the gems are... and she can help Aura find them, and learn to use the magic she harbors inside. Aura doesn’t trust her... but this is the best lead she’s gotten in her entire life. So she follows her into the heart of Fortwall: the best defended city in all of Middell.
The two of them make a plan to steal the sapphires from where they’re sitting, hidden, inside of Fortwall’s bank. However, on the night of, everything goes wrong. The sapphires are gone, already in the hands of Corintha, and Aura is spotted. She escapes the guards with the help of Chase Elderwood... another magic user, whom Aura cannot help but feel drawn to, and vice versa.
If the three of them want to get to Fayvale, and keep Corintha from using the sapphires for her own ends, they must take them back. But it’s going to take everything they have, and then some.

characters
Aura Laevis → protagonist. 21. keeper of the light gems. thief known as the Sapphire Dream. graceful, deadly, and determined, Aura is a formidable foe. however, she is also impulsive, impatient, and prefers to work alone. she’s spent most of her life in the safety of the Golden Coin--an inn deep within the forests of Wynria--leaving only to delve into old ruins or steal artifacts rumored to be enchanted gems. her one goal in life is to go to Fayvale... though part of her dreads the day she will finally get to leave, and leave behind the man who raised her.
Chase Elderwood → deuteragonist. 20. a soft-spoken young man from Fortwall, the best defended city in all of Middell. he, too, is possessed of some kind of magic: but unlike Aura, he’s never had any reason to doubt that he was born in Middell. that said, he feels an irresistible call to Fayvale... and to the Sapphire Dream, infamous thief. when he saves her from imprisonment (and possible execution), he knows that he was meant to aid her... to go with her. even if it means leaving everything he loves behind.
Melantha →  deuteragonist. 23. a woman who claims to be from Fayvale itself... and to have knowledge on the whereabouts of the enchanted gems. she is quiet and introspective, and more than a bit socially awkward. she doesn’t talk much about her past, or even about Fayvale itself... but she seems determined to help Aura find the gems, and bring the three of them back to Fayvale where they belong.
Corintha Voclain →  antagonist. 52. the dark gem keeper. her ancestor was exiled to Middell years and years ago when Fayvale first separated from the rest of the world.
