GWR/BR loco No. 4699 @ Whitland shed - West Wales Tour (787) - Jun 1959 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old amateur photograph of British Rail (BR) pannier tank engine No. 4699 inside the Whitland engine/locomotive shed (closed Jan 1966) in Jun 1959. This is in an old rail enthusiast photo album, on the reverse is annotated "West Wales Tour, C. F. Walklet at Whitland Shed, 7 Jun 1959". No. 4699 was a C. Collett designed class 5700 0-6-0PT engine, built at the Swindon Works, and new to Great Western Railway (GWR) in Feb 1945. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in Jun 1964, then scrapped in the August at the BR Swindon Works. Old/new overhead maps view:- maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17.4&lat=5... Booking In
Erik Klein, the tall, mustachioed, driver from the far north. He has been a railway man for all his life, and as such, he has made a long list of strong connections.
Erik left the National Railway some time ago, and when he did, he took along his regular fireman Adrian Vikas, and his regular engine, 7 foot gauge, Estrade 0-6-0 #103. The engine, slated for semi-retirement anyhow, was acquired for next to nothing.
As a private contractor, he needs to pay a fee in order to have his engine stabled at a shed, but, thanks to his array of connections on the railway, Erik Klein has other ways of paying for a shed road. The situation is made easier when the shed master is an old friend who shares your enthusiasm for fashionable facial hair, and as such, he is more than happy to accept mustache wax and beard oil as an under-the-table kind of payment.

Steamy Haworth
The first weekend in June, Phil was unusually work-free.  Mainline rail strikes limited our options so we settled on a day trip to see The Flying Scotsman.  We left the house in warm sunshine to catch the Bronte Bus.  During the scenic ride over Oxenhope Moor, we gazed on dry moor, pastoral farms, the mysterious WW2 radio station, and the impossibly picturesque Leeshaw Reservoir.  Nothing had…

Happy 80th anniversary to the Railway Series!
Here's my entry for the #RWS80thCollab; an art collab I helped organise to celebrate the anniversary. Each artist was randomly assigned a RWS book to create an illustration for - mine was book 11, Percy the Small Engine.
I thought it would be fun to depict Duck in the BR black livery he canonically arrived in 😁

I know its not canon but I always liked the idea that Flurry Heart grew up to be a normal pony. Never went on any princess-title-earning quest, no grand magical destiny, no real royal responsibilities. Just a normal pony (who happens to be an alicorn) free to enjoy life with her friends and hobbies

Saw a really messed up looking James Pillow Pet last night, and just had to draw the dang thing because it genuinely looked like a freaking train larvae...
Am I really dealing with severe burnout by getting a genuine interest in TTTE? Seems so. The choo choo trains don't cause me nearly as much stress as the Contemptuously Eating Itself Constantly Fandom.

I saw this idea and thought it looked brilliant. I'm hoping to get a few more done, hopefully one a week, but I knew I had to draw Henry first in case I ran out of time.
Henry's theme of course is flowers and nature, featuring Robins, Roses, Holly and Poinsettias. I think the flying robin on the front of his boiler is my favorite light in this drawing.
Putting green lights on a green engine perhaps wasn't the best moment of genius, but after much reworking, I managed to get the holly and leaves to stand out.
I found this LMS Pacific book in a charity shop and it is full of photos of Black Fives I can use for Henry base references. I look forward to drawing many more Henry's from it in the future. The book \/

Thomas' Revalation | A Shed 17 Redraw/Re-Take
Tumblr media
" He had no idea he was only one of many clones. None of us did. But I guess as time passed, we stopped asking all the questions we had at first. We were just glad our friend was back with us. He could work for us. He became our servant in a way. Someone who drew in the crowds; helped create jobs; was eager to work. Thomas always thought of us as his friends. Sadly, over time we came to think of him as just... really useful. "
-Keith Hartley, 2015
An attempt to redraw and remake the ending to the infamously bad Thomas & Friends Mockumentary "Shed 17". Both this and its sequel are good in concept with the ideas of the trains being these inhumane experiments, but the execution of ideas in both were poorly thought out.
If I did a remake of both, I'd likely have it focused on a 1910s-1920s experiment on eight familiar engines in The Gotze's attempt to prove sustaining human life via vehicles, which could have given more presedence on a potential "realistic alternate universe" to provide reason as if this could have inspired Wilbert Awdry to make The Railway Series.
Anyways, Happy Halloween! (There's some more art and a FNAF One-Shot on the way)

Milford Haven engine/locomotive shed - Jun 1959 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old photograph taken on a West Wales 'shed bash', of Milford Haven engine/locomotive shed (87Hs) in Jun 1959. The original single track timber shed was opened in 1863 by the Milford Railway then replaced in 1890 by a single track brick built shed. The line was absorbed by the Great Western Railway (GWR) in 1896, the shed was closed by British Railways (BR) in Dec 1962 and subsequently demolished. This is in a rail enthusiast old photo album, there is nothing on the photo reverse but the page is annotated "West Wales Tour, Milford Haven Shed, Two engines on - 3639 & 3654, 7 Jun 1959". Unfortunately the album owner's name is not known. Old/new overhead maps view:- maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16.6&lat=5... Nos. 3639 and 3654 were C. Collett designed '5700 class' 0-6-0PT engines, built at the Swindon Works and new to the Great Western Railway (GWR) in late 1939. In 1948 the railways were nationalised, GWR becoming British Railways (BR) Western Region, 3639 was withdrawn from service in Jan 1963 (scrapped Sep 1963) and 3654 withdrawn in Aug 1965 (scrapped Feb 1967). If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------

With Spencer's design finally (partially) revealed, I can finally address the oddity that is both his and Hiro's situation.
I've mentioned before that no one really understands the process of feralization. It was assumed for a long time that mimics become feral if they return to the wild as a means to better their survival odds. However, when Hiro was rediscovered he was only "partially feral" despite him living in that siding in the woods for years.
Add to that the fact most mimics come from the wild, and things really just don't seem to line up with that particular theory. Why would a mimic returning to the wild seem to become something lesser than what they used to be?
Well, Hiro and Spencer might hold a key to figuring it out.
When Thomas first discovered Hiro, he was somewhat frightened because on first glance the Japanese mimic looked feral. His behavior, however, proved otherwise. Not only is Hiro fully cognizant, he also retained his original personality and ability to size-shift. Something which a feral mimic would no longer possess.
Of course, seeing as no one had ever encountered a "half-feral" mimic, Thomas didn't immediately alert any humans to Hiro's presence. After all, the typical procedure with dealing with ferals is to euthanize them. Something which Thomas didn't want to risk, and neither did the other mimics once he informed them.
They all hoped that, so long as they got him back into good health and looking a little less wild, they'd be able to introduce him to the fat controller with less chances of sparking immediate panic among the humans.
Enter Spencer...
All the tiptoeing around the Summer House's construction zone, Thomas showing him up and the other mimics banding together to help Hiro, his overall paranoia, and Spencer not only catching the scent of a strange mimic but also succumbing to his territorial tendencies... And you end up with a rather unstable A4 mimic who's at the verge of snapping.
And snap he does... In front of both Hiro and Thomas with rather terrifying results.
At the end of the day, Sodor ends up with two half-feral mimics.
For the Steamworks, it's a whole new beast they're dealing with and a rather unpredictable one at that. So the best course of actions that are called for is to keep Hiro and Spencer confined, just so they can gauge how safe it is for humans to be around them (which, fair enough, Spencer was lashing out violently and took time to subdue).
Since the railway owns him, Hiro being locked up in the Steamworks was fairly easy to do (and ideal, since he could be monitored closely by both the works crew, but also Victor). But Spencer's confinement fell on the Duke and Duchess of Boxford who had to be brought in to calm their now partially feral mimic. They of course follow along, locking him up as asked, but Spencer's distressed cries eventually get to the Duchess who can't bring herself to leave her and her husband's mimic alone and afraid in this new strange state. She gets him to shrink down and brings him indoors where both she and her husband can keep an eye on him and comfort him (which ends up being the best thing they could have done).
It's... An adjustment. But one that does give Sodor specifically a good idea that feralization might be tied with a mimic's mental health more than it is with their environment.
They're not the first people to discover this of course... But that's a story for another day.
