The future of EV charging. The 1st of Gridserve's electric only forecourts in the UK.
I visit the world's first electric only forecourt, which opened in Dec 2020 in the UK. This is the Gridserve Electric Forecourt at Braintree in Essex. You may have seen plenty of videos about this place, as it seems almost every YouTuber went there when it opened. Nearly 3 years on, I'm a bit late to the party, but its my first time visiting this EV forecourt. Since then, Gridserve have also opened up another all-electric forecourt in Norwich in April 2022 and their third is due to open soon in Gatwick. These are electric only forecourts, powered by renewable energy and show us how the future public electric vehicle charging looks. This Braintree site has 24 DC rapid chargers under the solar canopies, with a further 6 Tesla Superchargers and 6 22kWh AC chargers. The power is handled by a 5MW battery onsite and with a huge solar farm 40 miles away and roof top solar onsite, the charging at this site (and all of the Gridserve Electric Highway chargers across the UK road network) is replaced with net zero energy.
