Now I did not watch the new S2 episode. I'm hearing abt it from people who have. And pretty much all the leaks were authentic regarding B&C.
I wrote abt the Sophie's Choice of bk!Helaena in the bk!B&C HERE, when someone asked me abt it. The other unserious things abt Blood & Cheese of HotD is that in the bk:
the psychological torture Helaena goes thru could either be Cheese trying to have fun (unlikely, they were on a "timer") OR it is Daemon reverting, perverting, etc. Rhaenyra's loss--Rhaenyra was not there tro witness Lucerys or even be able to have his remains....Helaena will participate in her own son's murder, so to speak
bk!Cheese was very knowledgaeble abt where to go and how, which tunels to use...which is why he was chosen in the first place and why his "job "profession" (ratcatcher) is so important, bc these guys know where to lay traps in hidden places for rats -> to make as if Cheese is ignorant as to how to lead Blood into the castle makes as if Daemon was more incompetent and careless than either have been canonically shown to be, even when they are angry or aggrieved
also, regarding show!Helaena giving offering her necklace and very quickly pointing out which kid was a boy as if she could not wait to abandon Jaehaerys while bk!Helaena offered her very life before she was forced to choose any kid is just disrespectful not only to her intelligence but neurodivergent people. Esp since if we argue she had some sort of autism or what have you. To rely on one's neurodivergence to explain why they--compared to the book where she was more active--didn't take thata ction is a cop out and is almost a generalization. Please. Again, she's supposedly a dreamer and has had access to such dreams since her preteen yrs in the show, so it's likely she had known what was going to happen in this moment if she also had known abt "beast beneath the boards", "spiders (the war)", etc. No HotD didn't show us more moments exactly proving that, but since they also had her do absolutely nothing with those visions like the original Cassandra actually tried to do, no one can tell me it didn't happen. In fact, I can say it's bc she never actually does anything with her dreams (and therefore we'll never really know if she had B&C "dreams" so I can cont with this hypothetical, as its likelihood is stronger than it should have been) that I can say that even her own kids dying doesn't seem to faze her enough to make a plan of sorts to herself? Or to be able to think as she tried in the bk when they forced her to choose. Show!Helaena has "dreams" (they aren't even dragon dreams) but unlike Cassandra, she does nothing with them. Again, it very likely B&C appeared to her in her so-called "dreams", she does what she always does--nothing...but not only does she finally decide to do something, she thought a fucking necklace would help her or her kids? They traveled all this way, risked getting caught and viciously executed, to kill ONE mutherfucking child, and these writers really thought that it was a good idea to have Helaena do this, think this would work even an iota? No, all this was such lazy, cheap writing bc the writers decided that her just having visions made up for her small character in the orig tale and that they didn't have to do else for her--they started and left her half done, it seems. Let's say the B&C dream never appeared to her; this is till the writers taking away the agency I already described above in the link---Helaena is a nothing character whose dreams still mean nothing to no one expect people who want to feel smart the way it exists in the show itself. Helaena has always been a victim, but they made her more abominably victimized...as I already said they do HERE & HERE. She's just around, waiting to be abused by the script and those around her for plot convenience's sake. There is no substance or personhood to her, she is only a purpose.
So, love that for Ryan. Seemed lukewarm.
But what did anyone expect, seeing as the same writers responsible for Aemond's "accident" (having tried for months to convince us that this was exusable even with it not being his intention to kill), for Alicent sincerely forgiving Rhaenyra after she had been on her ass and abusing her and her kids (and threatening their lives) for years and almost stabbing out Luke's eye, for Rhaenyra somehow being so affected by a stupid ass page of Nymeria (of all people!, you made Alicent pull out this page of a woman who lead armies to conquest as a consummate leader in her own right, who lead said armies to make sure her people survived, in order to dissuade Rhaenyra from fighting for what she sees as her birthright/designated seat of power and to also make sure her family/unit survives?!) to derail her from really confronting any of them in battle...🤷🏿‍♂️

Exandria Unlimited Quotes and Memorable Moments - Series 1 (8/?)
Fearne [Cockney accent]: "I'm done. I'll stay." Liam: "[Cockney accent] That's right, it's me." Fearne: "It's me, the cook." Orym: "And now you're cooked." Aabria: "No! I hate it. Ugh, it's very good. " Opal: "I need the spinoff. Or maybe it's Fearne's cousin."
[Facing a door] Orym: "Yeah. I'm going to run and then jump at it." Aabria: "Yeah! Give me an athletics check. Does anyone want to jump in and do it together? You can do it as a group." Fearne: "Yes, I'll do a head ram!" Orym: "Oh, excellent! I'm going to assist you" Aabria: "Don't you have a special move?" Fearne: "I do. I have a special ram attack. Ugh! Seven!" Aabria: "You run into it you're going to take one point of bludgeoning damage." Opal: "Could I Eldritch Blast the door?" Aabria: "Yeah. Make an attack roll." Matt: "It's always fucking doors!"
Aabria: "I got to say it. How do you want to do this?
[As another foe is felled] Aabria: "We got to respect a double murder. Let's go!" Opal: "Double murder! Okay. So this time, you know, she was she was feeling real cocky about this. So this time she aimed a little bit lower and it just, just pierces, just right here." Aabria: "You hit him in the wiener." Opal: "Just in the wiener." Orym: "Did you do the dick graze?" Opal: "I think, yeah. Is that what it's called?" Aabria: "There's a lot of important arteries!" Opal: "There's a lot of arteries there." Aabria: "You can't hit the femoral artery. It's wiener adjacent." Opal: "I'm not going to get into the gory details, but I do think we see a crimson smear..." Orym: "Oh! Brutal!" Opal: "...soak the front of the pants. He looks down, horrified, looks up. I do this [flips the bird], and he falls." Aabria: "Yes!" Liam: "Who will put my kids through thieves' guild college?
Dariax: "Oh shit! Eight points of radiant damage. Orym: "Woo! Dariax: "Rolled an eight. Aabria: "Matthew Mercer, how do you want to do this?" Opal: "How exciting!" Matt: "That was so cool!" Aabria: "Yeah!" Matt: "Wow! That's what it feels like! That's cool!"
Aabria: "The hissers are gone and you're alone in a warehouse operated by the Nameless Ones. What do you want to do?" Opal: "I have to come clean! I don't know what Illusory Script is!"
Orym: "Without touching it, does it look like any poison needles are going to pop out of it or drop on us or anything?" Aabria: "Give me an investigation check." Orym: "It's not really my thing. 12." Aabria: "With a 12, it doesn't look obviously trapped, no." Orym: "I touch it with my toe." Aabria: "What part do you touch?" Orym: "Just under the door knob, I'm graceful like a dancer." Opal: "Ballet! More than football." Aabria: "You kick a heavy lock and it jangles reproachfully at you."

Episode 1: Mystery Meat
Points we’re building off of:
Danny has very little control of his powers (month since accident)
Jazz is overprotective (yet still a 16 year old who thinks she’s an adult oof)
Parents assume it’s Jazz that’s the ghost. Why??
Assumption half ghost: I don’t believe that he believes this or knows what he is
Sam is more annoying than I remember (and selfish to boot)
Changes (or clarifications, in some cases):
Danny has previous fighting experience (his mother is a black belt, she taught both him and Jazz), which explains some of his ability to fight.
Danny possibly has some innate knowledge for his ghost self which allows him to pick up his abilities so quickly
We’re bringing Sam down (she’s vegan). She’s still very passionate, but instead of changing the menu entirely the school tries to do the “vegan for a day” thing. She’s still judgmental about eating meat, makes a few comments every now and then, but other than doesn’t make a big deal out of it unless she’s having a really bad day
Jack and Maddie do not go crazy and try to catch Jazz (Danny takes the thermos from the lab instead).
Jack and Maddie are nice/caring parents, abet very absentminded and forgetful (resulting in Jazz’s forced maturity - or belief in her own maturity).
Danny is initially quite naive and tries reasoning with the ghosts (maybe this continues or he becomes cynical later on)
Danny is still freaking out a month later and spends a lot of time trying to keep from crying or screaming. It’s part of the reason why his powers are so out of control for the first few months.
His control on his powers are very based on his emotions. It suCKS.
Lunch Lady is much less reasonable. She doesn’t hear rational excuses for why Sam can’t actually eat meat because it makes her sick. Some serious tunnel vision.
Not to mention... a lot of the meat is raw, so she’s trying to feed her raw meat, still dripping blood.
Dash is still a very physical bully, but I refuse to believe schools would let bullies get away with so much, especially with the anti-bullying campaigns that were going on back in the 2000s.
He’s smarter about not getting caught and has his friends to back him up. Nothing that’ll bruise visibly and no touching the face.
Short Drabble under cut
“I feel like I’m going crazy,” Danny whispered, eyes cast down as he tried to push back the jumbled mess his emotions had become over the last month. If he let himself go for even a moment his powers went haywire, but it was exhausting to hold it in.
“Danny...” Sam looked at him with a mixture of sympathy and confusion. She was the bigger supporter he had right now for keeping his powers (if there was any way to get rid of them in the first place).
“You’ve gotten a lot better since the accident! You haven’t gone invisible once today,” Tucker quietly said, glancing behind him to make sure no one down the hall had turned their heads. Tucker was good at that, reminding them that none of this was normal, that if anyone found out he’d be dead in another way.
God, he was dead why why it was an accident -
“Ya, but how many times have I gone through something instead,” Danny hissed back, shoulders hunched and eyes shut as he tried to fight back the swirling lights and the never ending headache that made it hard to think or concentrate half of the time. “I can’t stop thinking about it. It only takes one person. ONE PERSON and I go from geek to freak!”
“Danny!”
He looked around to Tucker only to find he was at least a foot taller than the last time he checked. The boy let out a startled gasp as he was painfully yanked up by the arm back to level footing. The chilling, almost numbing, sensation in his legs that he had failed to notice faded slowly as he was pushed forward and into the adjacent hallway.
“You’re not a freak. You’re unique! There’s nothing wrong with unique! It’s one of the reasons I’m vegan!”
“Please, you’re vegan because it bothers the hell out of your parents,” Danny muttered, looking back at her with faint amusement as she came up beside him and shoulder bumped him closer to the lockers and away from what remained of the mass heading to their lunch period.
She was good at hiding too.
“That, and I refuse to benefit from companies that support animal cruelty in the name of profit.” Arms crossed, she glared at Tucker who narrowed his eyes back at her, as if daring her to try and start with him.
“Eating meat - “
“You eat an excessive amount of it - “
“ - doesn’t make me a bad person!”
A middle finger was enough to get Tucker to stop pulling his punches.
Danny looked up at the ceiling, wondering if he should leave before the panicked thought of them not being there if he had an “episode” had him cemented to the floor as their voices joined the ambient buzzing in his ears.
Vaguely, he wondered if the wisps found high school as stupid as he did.

What are your thoughts on GRRM new post ?
https://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2024/07/05/blood-cheese-and-grief/
GRRM expresses that he enjoyed the episode's drama and Helaena's/Phia's performance of grief, the dog, excuses Cheese' confusion...but he doesn't actually commend the decision to make Maelor absent, which means he probably has issues with the actual event and interaction of the B&C event/Helaena's lack of Sophie's Choice. And what Maelor's nonexistence means for later events.
He talks around the actual thing itself--Helaena confronted by B&C-- only features of the main event that this episode was written for/around. I think that is very telling.
First, Helaena:
As I mentioned in this post, I already thought that Helaena would likely have ridden Dreamfyre often but what most interests me is his point that she was "adored" by the smallfolk. If so, he succeeded in not really conveying that with evidence because those same smallfolk still tried to kill the same girl's dragon and the Shepherd's contrasting her supposed "purity" to Rhaenyra's "evil" licentuousness provides more evidence as to why she'd be so "adored". Bec in this propaganda book, you'd think that there'd be more actual evidence for how she & Alicent was "adored" or "beloved" BEFORE the Dance like how there is for Alysanne and Rhaenys But we'll take it for now, since his intent in this post is to share his positive reaction to the first 2 episodes alone for the season.
Like what he said about how Viserys was written, he likes how Helaena here is given more "complexity":
Saban’s performance is especially noteworthy; very little of what she brings to the part was in my source material. Last season HOUSE OF THE DRAGON essentially recreated King Viserys, giving him a much different backstory and far more depth than the jolly party-loving king I created for FIRE & BLOOD. I talked about that last year, so I won’t repeat myself, save to say it was very well done, and DAMN but Paddy Considine was glorious in the role.   (He should have won an Emmy). The HotD team have done the same thing here with Helaena.  In the book, she is a plump, pleasant, and happy young woman, cheerful and kindly, adored by the smallfolk. A dragonrider since the age of twelve, Helaena’s greatest joy in life is to take to the skies on the back of her dragon Dreamfyre.  None of the strangeness she displays in the show was in evidence in the book, nor is her gift for prophecy. Those were born in the writers’ room… but once I met the show’s version of Helaena, I could hardly take issue. Phia Saban’s Helaena is a richer and more fascinating character than the one I created in FIRE & BLOOD, and in “Rhaenyra the Cruel” you can scarcely take your eyes off her.
It's...very interesting that he doesn't mention episode 3...which was nearly universally hated or treated as a "funny" or comedic episode...strange since a death of a child is supposed to hang around for a little longer and tensions are supposed to accumulate into unbearable levels but I digress 😐. I bring this up bc apparently, it is the same episode where you see Helaena express little of that grief he praises the show for making her express through Phia's performance (I agree w/GRRM--the grief factor alone of that performance was good) AND the show takes the time to say she "forgives" Alicent for apparently being inattentive for her kid's death to happen...meanwhile she's supposed to be so lost in grief that's it's unlikely she actually has the time or energy to even care abt Alicent OR to feel like she can forgive her bc her kids is gone forever...
So, this part:
And Phia Saban gave a wrenching, powerful, heart-breaking performance as Helaena Targaryen, Aegon’s doomed, haunted queen and mother to his children.
Is funny as hell. Undermines all of the 1st 2 episodes he liked.
As I said in previous show!Helaena criticisms, it was inevitable that show!Helaena was going to be a "rounder" character than the book...precisely bc she is not mentioned often besides that descr GRRM gave above, B&C, her going mad, and her death/Dreamfyre's cry. She's given more...but I maintain that the "more" is self contradictory and we haven't actually explored her life or her "visions", which are just shown as "feelings" rather than dreams. The characterization, is still flatter than show!Viserys, who we actually still explore and see outside of Rhaenyra, Alicent, Otto even. Thereby, Helaena show-wise is still an aesthetic of grief rather than a character and if you enjoy her being an aesthetic of the grief GRRM, I don't really understand how you aren't disappointed with how they ruined even that in epi 3.
I have visited real castles that did not look half as imposing as the Red Keep and Dragonstone did.  And they were HUGE.  I could easily have gotten lost, just like Blood and Cheese did.
I once said that it was weird they got lost:
bk!Cheese was very knowledgaeble abt where to go and how, which tunels to use…which is why he was chosen in the first place and why his "job "profession" (ratcatcher) is so important, bc these guys know where to lay traps in hidden places for rats -
GRRM is not a medieval ratcatcher who consistently works at a specific castle he's been to many times and he never was/can be one, but sure we'll take his word of enjoyment for it. Would have been better argument if he brought in historical evidence of ratcatchers getting lost and how frequently they did. In the episode, Cheese said he never went up to the upper rooms like some other catchers...why? there's a hierarchy of "professional" ratcatchers, now? This was never shown. IDK, sometimes I think only a few people in this fandom actually care abt world building.
Me, I felt that it was an unnecessary thing to add bc how how limited they were in run time, the plausibility issue I speak of, and bc how this weird thing is used as a way for the writers to infuse more confusion and an element of dream like chaos into the episode. Which, sure....but then its a weird question of perspective that we're not really supposed to have when this is not a vision, but that's another digression. You could have had him be more sure and knowledgeable, or be as he was and we could have given more space for Helaena, but what do I know, I'm not the author.
He says some stuff about the dog. I liked the dog, too, and yes I wished he had included the dog.
Finally, and most intriguingly, he says this:
The only part of the show that is drawing criticism [from watchers] is the conclusion of the Blood and Cheese storyline.   Which ending was powerful, I thought… a gut punch, especially for viewers who had never read FIRE & BLOOD.   For those who had read the book, however… Well, there’s  a lot of be said about that, but this is not the place for me to say it.   The issues are too complicated.   Somewhere down the line, I will do a separate post about all the issues raised by Blood and Cheese… and Maelor the Missing.  There’s a lot to say.
Hehe.
Like I said above, it appears he has some issues for how they will or won't include Maelor's death AND how Helaena's Sophie's choice--arguably the biggest and most important and plot-defining action she ever took aside from her suicide (that will be used against Rhaenyra later), which only happens bc of this event--was rewritten and handled.
I guess I'll be on the watch out for that new post he's writing AND for his reaction on episode 3.

Exandria Unlimited Quotes and Memorable Moments - Series 1 (4/?)
Aabria: "You are living in his townhouse, yes." Opal: "Oh, mm-hmm, I think that's the guy in the painting." Dariax: "This isn't our townhouse? Opal: "No." Dorian: "No." Dariax: "Oh! Oh no." Dorian: "You do need to drink less. This was before the week that we lost." Dariax: "Probably." Fearne: "Time is a weird soup." Dorian: "A soup? Time's a weird soup? Is that a saying where you're from?" Fearne: "Uh-huh. You look at her and you see in those giant fawn eyes nothing but open and honest truth. Time is a weird soup." Dorian: "Time is a weird soup." Opal: "Like a chowder." Fearne: "Yes, very chunky." Orym: "Chunky time."
Dorian: "We've had breakfast." Opal: "Should we look for contracts, for adventure? [yelling] CONTRACT?"
Dariax: "Anyway. Takes it off, holds it, detaches the chain from the compass rose sets it on the ground, puts his hand over it for a second. And spins it. It slows and slows and slows until it comes to a stop to the left is where the point on the compass, where the north is and he goes: 'We go that way.'" Aabria: "Nice." Dorian: "That's the trick?" Dariax: "Yeah." Opal: "What's that, a compass?" Dariax: "Yeah, well, it's more of a decoration, but..." Dorian: "It's just like throwing a dart at a map and picking a place to go." Dariax: "We can do that, too. Up to you."
Aabria: "Also, this conversation's definitely happening long enough if any of you want to clock it." Dariax: "I'm already walking down the road. I'm part way away, now." Fearne: "What are you whispering about?" Orym: "Somebody's fucking with the townhouse." Dorian: "Tell her, tell her. And I'm going to run after Dariax. 'Dariax!'" Dariax: "What?" Dorian: "Dariax, come back, come back come back come back." Dariax: "Oh okay." Dorian: "We're talking about something important. And I'm going to put my arm around him and he's so surprisingly dense, I'm going to try to try to pull him and I realize I can't and I'm just going to be like: 'Come on, come on.'" Dariax: "I put my arm around him like: Yeah, buddy!" Dorian: "He put it on my liver, it hurts a little bit." Aabria: "A sturdy boy."
Dariax: "Hey, were you fucking with the door?" Aabria: "What?" Opal: "Were you fucking the door?" Dariax: "What?" Opal: "He was fucking the door." Dariax: "That's kind of uncouth, I'm not going to lie."
Opal: "You're really fashionable for a gardener. You must be city gardeners." Dariax: "It's just a gardener guys, it's fine." Opal: "Yeah, she's just a fashionable city gardener." Suspicious person: "Yes, I'm a gardener, and she pulls a knife out, it looks a very aggressive blade and just starts slowly sawing." Fearne: "Insight check." Aabria: "Yes, go ahead and make an insight check." Fearne: "I feel like she's not telling the truth. Oh no. Seven." Aabria: "City gardeners, wild. So fashionable, as she's just sawing and then it lands on her and a couple bits of sap get on her jacket and she's like, 'No! Yep, gardener, I'm a gardener."
[Much later] Dariax: "Wait a second. You're not a gardener, are you?" Poska: "Oh, oh my god. Oh god. And her entire guarded posture relaxes." Dariax: "Dariax gets intense about this, he's like: 'I don't like being lied to.'"
