I think the Mighty Nein should ask for a boon in exchange for going to the moon to be paid at a later date. The boom is a pardon for the traiter of the Dynasty Essek Theylass -maybe still exiled, that’s fair.
Some of my most favorite completely pivotal, campaign-changing moments from Critical Role Campaign 2, in no particular order:
-mail fraud
-walking through a literal, not-space-related, massively long tunnel-like worm hole from one continent to another. with no DM prompting to do so. they chose this.
-blueberry cupcakes
-almost killing a weird purple dude with a weird geometric object, letting him go only for him to get killed by the government an instant later, and then being like “well I don’t want the GOVERNMENT to have whatever that is” and stealing it back on a whim. and then just. carrying around a powerful magical relic of unknown significance. for months. just jangling around in their bags and occasionally being whipped out for a once-a-day reroll. this thing started a WAR and then disappeared from under the noses of TWO NATIONS and these random adventuring chucklefucks had it the whole time
-appearing for an audience before a queen of a foreign land wearing BDSM gear and whipping out one of their lost religious relics
-The Wildmother loving her weird pink son enough to give him THREE successful divine interventions
-relentlessly attempting to become best friends with a war criminal even after learning that he started a war
-accidentally stealing a pirate ship. not ~accidentally stealing~, actually on accident stealing a pirate ship with no intentions to do so prior to stealing the pirate ship. and then going “I guess we’re pirates now.”
-Fjord flipping off a sea god and destroying his weird sea sword and then refusing or forgetting to get rid of the weird sea orb inside him and then going out to sea after he pissed off the sea god. multiple times.
-Yasha cannot make a wisdom saving throw to save her life her free will and it changed the course of the story. multiple times.
-negotiating peace between warring nations, and then dipping out to go organize and attend a cult convention
-going to their first ever big city and being like “what do we do now? crime? is crime what we do now? crime?” and committing treason and conspiring to murder a city official and joining a crime syndicate led by a wet dude who later turned out to be Jester’s dad
Mollymauk always gave Caleb a kiss on the forehead to help him feel better,,,, and then Caleb gave Essek a kiss on the forehead to help him feel better,,,,,,,,, Caleb is into hot purple boys
In a recent episode of talks, Matt mentions that he didn't expect Essek to get as much screen time as he has, and the M9 just fixated on him. If this is true, and not just a smoke cloud, that means that Matt really expected to drop him in front of them when they turned over the beacon, and move on, episodes and episodes later they would have perhaps figured out the traitor.
The enigmatic young prodigy with the title "shadowhand". The up and comer with a smile that says he thinks he knows better. The one fucker in the court who floats because he can. The young arcanist willing to do anything for his work. And of course, of course that's who it is. Who could have missed it? The clues are all there, you just have to look with a bit of suspicion.
But that's not what happened. Matt dropped hot boi essek in front of the m9 and they couldn't leave him alone. When they deal with the dynasty they want to deal with Essek. They bring him into their adventures, and into their house. The house that his den gave them so he'd know where they were in the city. The house they turned into a home. And against all logic, they trust him.
Quarantine is good for one thing. Here’s some practice in painting, with the mighty nein! I got a book of French impressionists paintings, and recreated them for the group.
now that we know what essek's whole situation is, that interrogation scene at the dinner is so much funnier. him being all sad and solemn talking about the "shadiest" thing he's ever done, while being the whole ass traitor. hilarious.
Essek: Constantly mentions how he doesn’t agree with the will of the political leaders of the Kreen dynasty, multiple times breaks direct orders when the Mighty Nein ask, speaks vaguely about his goals for the future and how he would do anything to further his research
Me, Campaign 2 Episode 1: man, Jester and Fjord sure would be an adorable couple. Molly and Caleb my OTP though, I just Love Them
Me, Campaign 2 Episode 93: FJORCLAY?????!! BEAUJESTER? BEAUJESTERYASHA?? CALEB/HAPPINESS???? NOTT/BEING COMFORTABLE IN HER OWN SKIN??? ESSEK/FRIENDSHIP?? I have been enlightened
Something quick I did for a friend based on a goof of Liam's. I'm not a Shadowgast shipper but I thought some of y'all might enjoy it.
(ID: Shadowhand Essek, a well-dressed drow with a wavy undercut hairstyle, bids Caleb, a human wizard, farewell and casts a teleportation spell. Caleb reaches out and casts counterspell, then grabs Essek by the collar. He asks, "Where do you think you're going?" A very nervous/confused Essek stammers, "Wha--" but can't finish because Caleb pulls him into a kiss. Essek is shocked!)
you drive a couple of freshmen you tutor to some strange town for a research trip. two days later one calls and asks you to keep one of the lab specimen alive a little longer even though the professor wants to toss it. you hide it in the back of the freezer because this kid is particularly into this research. after a few days they call you and ask you to take them somewhere else equally far. you try to tell them gas isn’t cheap. when you agree to take them anyway, there’s suddenly a new kid who definitely isn’t in the class but is in your backseat anyway. you thought perhaps this was about continuing research but then google maps takes you to a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. you decide to leave before they go inside. your professor still thinks the students are on the original research project.
Artagan/essek. Imagine the chaos and confusion it would bring to the table. @athenaainehunter is the captain of this ship and im a fool who hopped on 100% ;o;
