Finally remembered I have more of these to answer! I'm so glad you asked about this one - I have about 4200 words of it and I really would love to finish it someday.

The basic premise is that Caduceus starts feeling overwhelmed living with his family back in the Grove and he goes to Nicodranas to get a break and stay with Fjord and Jester. I really wanted to explore how Cad could still form strong partnerships with people without a sexual/romantic element and what that would look like (somewhat similar to what I did in Hearts Full of Light, but centering on Caduceus's experience).

Here's a snippet! I really do hope to finish this:

“I’m not sure what’s wrong with Fjord,” he said, glancing over at the bar. Fjord was waiting in a line to get drinks, looking bored. Jester wrinkled her nose in confusion. “In what way?” “He’s been acting distant, like he doesn’t know what to do with me.” Caduceus studied the grain in the table, not sure why the topic of conversation was making the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. “Because he LOVES you, silly,” said Jester, watching Caduceus with bright eyes. Caduceus smiled, a feeling of utter contentment rolling through him like a wave at her words. “Oh,” he said. “Well, that’s nice. I love him too.” Jester scrunched her nose. “I maaaay have phrased that wrong,” she said. “When I say he loves you, I mean he’s IN LOVE with you.” Caduceus blinked at her. “Fjord’s in love with you,” he said as though this should be obvious. He really felt as though this romance stuff should be less complicated than it was, although he supposed people were people. Jester waved her hand airily. “Love isn’t a finite thing, CaDUceus! Fjord can be in love with me too!” She smiled fondly across the room in Fjord’s direction, and Caduceus followed her gaze. Fjord caught them looking and gave a goofy little wave, almost knocking over the two milks and beer that the bartender had placed in front of him. Jester giggled. “See? He’s stupid for both of us.” She brushed her hair back behind one shoulder, flirting with Fjord coquettishly with her eyes. He made a face at her and picked up their drinks, heading back to the table. Caduceus felt out of his depth. “What do I say?” he asked desperately. Maybe he should apologize? Before Jester could answer, Fjord was back at the table, sliding the two glasses of milk to both of the clerics. “I’m sorry,” Caduceus blurted out. Fjord blinked at him. Jester covered her mouth with her hand, making it completely obvious that she’d said something. “What for, Caduceus?” Fjord asked, one eyebrow raised. Jester made a sound like a teakettle.

had a wacky but IMO genuinely pretty solid idea for how 2-3 of our party can sneakily rescue our barb, and I'd be lying if I'm not partially inclined toward that plan specifically because it would mean Paq gets to be the one to get him untied and out the door.

also given his condition already (18/113 HP, 3 levels of exhaustion, 1 rage left) and the heavily middle-eastern-inspired area we're in, if we do successfully get him away to safety next session I'm going to absolutely lose my mind over the "Nate and Elena Yemen reunion in U3" vibes.

I'm not sure if (m)any of these answers will be interesting at all, because apparently I have a bad memory for ships apart from the ones I made fanart of myself, and I haven't read a lot of fanfic for a long long time.. But I've attempted answering these questions anyway!

What ship were you completely obsessed with as a teenager, but now you don’t care about anymore?

I didn't ship much as a teen. I liked the Marauders gang from HP a lot as a kid, tho, likely even in a shippy way. Obviously HP has left a really bad taste my mouth.

Which ship would you consider your first one?

It was probably a HP one, I was properly obsessed with Sirius, James and Remus for a long time, but like I said, I have a hard time telling when I started consciously shipping characters.

Your first fanfic was about which couple?

Hinata and Naruto and it was baaad. I guess it was maaaybe kind of cute, but it was not good.

Do you remember the first couple you saw fan art of?

Not at all. The most likely options are anyone from HP, Death Note, or InuYasha, but it hasn't stuck with me.

Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?

Nah, the closest I've gotten was the time I got put on a blacklist (or two?) for a shipping Yamato and Sai. I didn't care and so didn't address it, until someone sent me a (kind) message about it. I then explained my feelings about the problematic aspect and the (few) responses I got were 100% positive.

Did you used to have a NOTP or have one currently?

There are plenty of ships I don't particularly like, but I wouldn't call them NOTP's. Except maybe the very very popular ones. I only take real issue with ships that become canon, like a fair few Naruto pairs..

Who were the last couple in the last fanfic you read?

Reading has been hard the last couple of years, so I haven't done much of it.. But it has to have been a Dreamling fic - I'm so excited you've been writing again, TJ 💖

Currently, do you have any OTPs?

MatsuMasa, although they're not my otp in the literal sense. I like them both with Yaichi, and Matsu (non-romantically) with Ume - and the fun thing is that it works all at the same time 😎

Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting into?

Hmm well I'm kinda mad at not being as into Dreamling as you are, TJ. I like Sandman and Dreamling! Very much looking forward to the second season and I enjoy the things you blog about, but it's never been more than a general appreciation. And that's fine, ofc, but it's always been such a joy to be excited by the same things as you haha

Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they’re kind of interesting?

Maybe KakaGai? Only I didn't dislike it, just didn't consider it. And I don't think it's kind of interesting, I deeply love it.

Do you have any ship that, in the past, would have been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

I already mentioned YamaSai, but there's also ShisuItachi. Some people say that the latter is incest. It's been too long and I don't remember their specific relationship, but afaik they're not (direct) family, just from the same clan. Can't get too bothered about family trees in fiction.

Kikyo and Kagome from InuYasha is by some considered gross as well, comparable to incest, because Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation?

Idk, is FjorClay problematic, because Caduceus is canonically aroace? I feel like it's not a super popular ship anyways, but I still like them a lot. In a queer platonic way.

What is your favourite crack ship?

I don't think I have one. Although I wonder if JonGerry from the Magnus Archives could be considered crack ship? They aren't from different fandoms, but they only met once after Gerry had already died. And then at Gerry's request, Jon sort of killed him again. It doesn't really count as a crack ship, but this is my answer anyway

What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?

Hm, I don't know! The last time I really obsessively read them was in my Naruto era.. So who knows - KakaGai is a very plausible answer.

What do most of your ships have in common?

I guess I most commonly like pairings with a Gentle Giant™ (preferably kind of dumb) and someone grumpy and/or cynical and smart and/or skilful. MatsuMasa, BeauYasha and ShikaChou come to mind.

What do you absolutely hate in a ship?

Hard to explain. Wrong vibes lol. Look I can appreciate love-hate or even hate-hate relationships as much as the next shipper, but there needs to be at least some level of respect/consent/two-way-street? I still dislike SasuSaku, because they very much have none of that from what I remember. They've always been close to a NOTP and then they became canon so..

For the record, here is the objectively correct listing of the major ships in c2 that I care about (the only important ones, because I had to see posts about them):

1. Beaujester - best ship, amazing chemistry, some of the best interactions.

2. Fjorester - great ship, natural progression, really interesting for each character’s growth.

3. Beauyasha - fine, would have been better if they ever stopped being so damn awkward.

4. Shadowghast- yay! annoying stans of both are interacting with each other.

5. Whatever Caleb/Nott was called idk - whatever.

6. Fjorclay - bad.

7. Other - other.

8. Widojest - none of you will see heaven (or understand either character as more than a self insert).

if you’re going to play genshin, you should at least know how to pronounce the character’s names.

note ; i am a farsi speaker. these are farsi pronunciations, but they can be used interchangeably w the arabic. i will also only be doing characters w arab or farsi names as south asian pronunciation is not my forte.

al haitham - al like in alfredo, hai-tam.

tighnari - the g almost sounds like a k here, it’s pretty sharp. tig-nah-hri.

nilou - knee-low.

kaveh - not kavi. it is not even remotely CLOSE to kavi. this one is actually a farsi name, it’s kha-veh.

dehya - day-a.

nahida - nah-he-duh.

Just as I'm genuinely curious... You said you don't like the mighty nein canon ships and thus inhibiting you from watching the reunion episodes. Which ships do you like then and what do you like about them? Or do you prefer no shipping, and more take joy in the mighty nein characters as strong, developed individuals instead?

P.S. I agree, I miss Cad. He had a special air about him and it does not feel right without it

I love Cad, he's my boy, high wis low int is such a great combo 🙏

I like the characters as individuals which means any ship I would actually enjoy would have to develop naturally from who they are and allow them to grow further. I don't see that with the canon ships except maybe shadowgast, but that one is just not that interesting to me.

I like widojest (Caleb/Jester) for the same reasons all the widojesties have already said; they support each other, have deep conversations, Caleb never questions Jester's strength and ability (unlike many others) and encourages her to be honest with her feelings - tells her experiencing sadness and showing it is okay and doesn't diminish her worth. Jester in turn encourages Caleb's mischievous side and shows him it's okay to be happy despite circumstances. Caleb is clearly in love with her as confirmed by Liam and she flirts with him! Additionally Jester's growth from romanticizing an ideal to experiencing real love would look very interesting when paired with Caleb and his issues.

Another one is Fjorclay (Fjord/Caduceus). Never thought I'd go so hard for these two characters. It's their conversations, mutual growth through understanding one another, the idea of love and faith intertwined. Fjord goes to Caduceus for guidance and it could easily go in the teacher/student direction but Taliesin constantly made sure to show they're both just followers as in "I can show you and tell you how I experience faith but you will experience it in your own way". Two aspects of the Wildmother; water and land experienced by them separately letting them share and expand their perceptions of their god. I enjoy how Fjord respects Caduceus but is often fondly confused by him and how Cad sees goodness and worth in Fjord despite Ukotoa's influence. Oh, and "One day someone will pray for a miracle and you will show up" makes me crazyyyy.

This one is a minor ship but it's interesting to me Fjord/Veth. #greenteam #drowningvictims I love their bickering, Fjord not taking her seriously at first and Veth making fun of him and eventually a little flirting thanks to Sam, mwah, chef's kiss. and the transformation parallels are compelling. I know it'd be hard as that ship means divorce/infidelity for Veth and that's a lot for a fantasy roleplay game but u know, still something interesting to explore.

Finally, I'm not the biggest fan of beaujess mostly bc of those little moments of Beau infantilising Jester but I still respect it and they'd be miles better than beauyasha. At least they have actual conversations and know each other... But what interests me more is Jester/Yasha. There are few moments of them together, but I saw something there from both of them, specifically after Jester painted flowers in Yasha's room. I remember Yasha seemed a little taken with Jester tho not very clearly, it was one moment a long time ago. Still it was more about personality than just "Hey I think you're hot so I guess we're in love now or whatever" and I think they would be very sweet together.

That's that for what I would've liked to see most. It's clear the canon ships happened because of decisions outside of the game and that's disappointing, but I'm not gonna get into why exactly I don't enjoy them since that's not what you asked for!
