RGG Tactics/Aoyagi Saga business sideplot #1: Cat Cafe Grand Prix

[Context: at a certain point in the story, Aoyagi is gifted a fixer-upper cafe to make a little walking around money with. Because Sotenbori is chock full of restaurants and because it is Unwise for him to repeat the same gimmick his place in Kamurocho used, he turns it into a cat cafe in partnership with the local TNR group. Naturally, a bunch of Cruella DeVil type shitlords running a syndicate of high-end cat cafes decides to start some shit. From the mechanics outline:]

Similar to the Cabaret Club sideplots.

You get cats on loan from the local TNR/rescue group. In order to request a new cat, you have to trap a stray. The rescue group will swoop in and pick up the stray, and then deliver a new cat to the cafe next time you enter it. The cat you trap will not be the cat that’s delivered, but strays you trap will eventually start being delivered once they’ve been fixed and prepped for adoption.

There are three factors in determining your score for each shift: profit, customer satisfaction, and adoptions. You’ll need to keep your menu fresh to maximize profit and satisfaction, and keep your cats happy to keep them from misbehaving on the floor and to incite customers to adopt them.

The mission of the cat cafe is to get cats adopted. Customers will bond with cats; when the bond maxes out, the customer will adopt the cat. An adoption during a shift will MASSIVELY boost your score and can make or break a rival battle. 

There are a few rare “platinum” cats, obtained via substories or beating rivals in the Cat Cafe Grand Prix. These cats have god tier stats but aren’t adoptable (this is explained in-game as them being special needs cats that can’t be placed with just anyone so the application process is a lot more involved). They’ll get customers in the door and loosen their hold on their wallets, but too many of them in your cast at once will tank your overall score because again, the goal is to get cats adopted.

Your first platinum cat is a majestically fluffy white cat with gorgeous blue eyes, named Miyuki (see what I did there? Yuki? Mew-ki? Ehhhh forget it). Miyuki is your number one girl. She is deaf and frequently oblivious to her surroundings and at some point in the sideplot she will get catnapped and you will be forced to do a rival battle without her. Same as it ever was.

Beating the Amon Clan tactical battle gets you, among other cool things, the best platinum cat in the game. He’s a big stocky black cat with sunglasses. His name is Nyamon. I’m not sorry.

You can put cute accessories on the cats to boost their appeal. Except for Nyamon, who will hiss at you if you try to swap his shades for another accessory.

Stressed cats, like stressed hostesses, will need time off. Putting an unhappy cat on the floor may lead to customers getting scratched or bitten, which will affect your score.

Different food has different effects on the cats’ stats. Fresh-made food is orders of magnitude better than the canned shit from Poppo and Donki, but you’ll need a recipe for that...

You can’t assign cats to tables. The cats will go where they want. However, if a cat starts to bond with a customer, she’ll eventually cling to that customer like glue.

In typical asshole cabaret club rival style, the Cruella DeVils will ditch their purebred number one cats after you beat them. Their loss is your gain.

It would be funny if most adults were somewhat uncomfortable around Crowley because of his "I'm too cool to be here" aura, but children and animals were attracted to him like bees to honey

Logically it should be the opposite: children and animals should be attracted to Aziraphale's angelic essence as if he was Snow White but it's after Crowley the stray dogs and cats come after for pets and attention when they are out on their walks. Or, when a kid is lost and in need of help, they talk to Crowley and not Aziraphale

Not that Aziraphale minds; as I've said before I don't think he's the best with kids and he probably thanks the Almighty all their attention goes to his companion whom is much more inclined towards them

Crowley's demeanor changing from suave and serious to soft smiles and sweet voice and "Pspspsps come here, little thing. Aren't you precious?" or "And where are your parents, love?" *bangs head against the wall* I wouldn't survive this honestly

So let me give you a couple and tell you a little bit about them.

1. A Man of Virtue

If you like BDSM type stories, this is for you.

Jinwoo is a (seemingly) straight man who encounters a haechi statue while drunk one night and curses his lifelong rival Sangtae before vomiting on said statue.

The next day, anytime Jinwoo comes within 5 feet of Sangtae, he gets these overwhelming, erotic, BDSM fantasies.

The two work together to figure out the cause of the fantasies, the solution, and how to get them to stop.

It's fucking HYSTERICAL.

Their dynamic is so interesting.

It's a breath of fresh air from the normal feminine, dainty bottoms most authors write about.

2. Love or Hate

If you like love triangles... boy, do I have the triangle-ist of love for you.

Haesoo is a freelance writer who often gets sucked into the drama of his former step-brother, Joowon.

The two explored their sexuality together when their parents got remarried to each other.

Haesoo, sick of waiting on Joowon to stop being a dick and admit his feelings, encounters K, a photographer from Japan known for his lewd pictures.

He is tasked with writing a piece about K and conducting an interview, but the two end up hitting it off.

Honestly, this one was kind of gut wrenching for me. The emotional turmoil Haesoo experienced throughout was hard to get through, but it has a happy ending.

This one is depressing with a bit of humor sprinkled in here and there.

If you can read about a main character who thoroughly and 100% hates himself and make it through to the end, this one is for you.

3. The Dangerous Convenience Store

AHJUICY.

Ahem.

If you like a big, seemingly emotionless top who only gets emotional about his bottom, this one is for you.

Euijoon is a college student who works at a convenience store in a terrible neighborhood riddled with gang activity.

One night, a man shows up and saves him from a rude customer. After that night, the man continues to show up at the same time to buy alcohol and cigarettes.

Euijoon, out of curiosity more than anything, becomes infatuated with this man.

The man, who has been straight his entire life (he's like 40...), is confused about his adoration for Euijoon and decides to pursue him.

This one is a helluva ride. I dont even know Ahjuicy's real name cause Euijoon calls him Ahjussi the entire comic.

There is some violence (gangs are involved, what do you expect?)

It does have a happy ending, though.

4. Hold Me Tight

If you like a more feminine top and a more masculine bottom, this is for you.

Felix is being blackmailed into becoming Giovanni's body guard all so the guy who is blackmailing him can take Gio down.

Only, Gio has a condition where he doesn't feel warmth. Even a fire would not keep him warm. He has spent many of his nights cold and wears coats and scarves in the middle of Summer.

Until he encounters Felix. He feels warmth from Felix.

With Felix's motives not being so pure, how will their relationship pan out? Especially when Gio actively seeks out his warmth.

Felix is pretty masculine for a bottom. He is a black belt.

Gio is pretty weak as a top. He owns his own company and needs constant protection.

This was a very interesting dynamic.

It was a roller coaster of emotions, but DAMN the way their relationship progressed was too damn good.

These two hold such a special place in my heart.

5. The Unquenchable Mr. Kim

This one has a bad rep. I literally only half understand the bad rep and I'll get there.

Dooyun is half vampire, half human, but he can't drink blood to survive. In fact, eating doesn't even help him survive. He has to obtain a humans "essence" in order to stay alive. If he doesn't, he gets very sick and could die.

How do you obtain this essence, you ask? Guess. 😉

So anyway, his boss, Kangwoo, offers him a proposition after Dooyun accidentally sends him a message about finding a new sex partner. The message was supposed to go to someone else.

The only problem? Kangwoo's essence isn't strong enough to keep Dooyun alive.

As the two fall for each other, how will Dooyun survive???

The smut is A fucking PLUS.

The art isn't very good in the beginning, but it gets SO beautiful by the end.

The reason it has a bad rep has a lot to do with two important characters that were very poorly executed. It's only 65 chapters, but the author could have stretched it to over 100 so easily. As an author myself, I can overlook poorly executed characters in favor of a good storyline.

These are all finished works that I really enjoyed. Special mentions also include BJ Alex, Insecret (about an idol group), Hold Me Safe, Love So Pure, In My Closet (also about an idol group), A Life Without You, My Way With You, and Cherry Blossoms After Winter.

The top is DREAMY.), The Words in Your Snare, Don't Build My Hopes Up (this one made me realize I have major trust issues, lmao), Punch Drunk Love, Missing Love (this one is not for the faint of heart. It is DARK.), You Get Me Going.

I keep track of what I have read with ratings and comments in a notebook. I was thinking of transferring the data to my computer and posting it sometime. I've read over 70 works so far with a lot of ongoing works. I'd be so incredibly happy to share.

There are some works that I have finished that I didn't really care for. There are also a couple of works that I am reading that are ongoing that just don't have enough oomf to be mentioned here. I have dropped one that I won't even mention. It doesn't even deserve to be mentioned. If you want my list, it will be mentioned there, but that's it.

AHAHAHA WELL. PREPARE YOURSELF.

Alright so. Shei's family situation in general but mostly his dad right. And the Queen didn't want him to protect her public image so she sent Shei away with his father... I wonder how that interaction went down- because rn I have. A pretty frigid "character image" of her, I mean. She sent her child away with her secret lover. And on top of that, she locked her teenage bastard son in the dungeon when news finally broke out... I'm not sure what became of Shei's father after that but I almost wanna assume he was executed for spreading conspiracies or something. Or if he wasn't, he would've come to plead at the stairs of her throne, and maybe the same would've played out. He just loved (her) the crown. A little too much, some might say.

I like to think that Shei comes from a long line of... brewers? I'm not sure the correct term for it, but they make good wine and beer and stuff. Which leads into my next headcanon, that because they’re known for their wine and stuff, the Royal Family just had to have them in their staff. And that was how Shei's father and the Queen met. Maybe the Queen was stressed and drink helped take the edge off, and Shei's father was just... there to unburden herself on. And because of his station/class, he'd thought that meant something. He doesn't expect the baby to be shoved into his arms and to be sent away- but he gets it. If the King(? Is there one?) If anyone knew... all the more reason to send them away. As much as it breaks his heart.

I might be making this one up but I think I remember reading in one of your posts Shei having longer ears than most Hylians and I like to think that that's a royal trait. And you mentioned him being mixed (I think) Chinese and I like to think that comes from his dad so, although he has the huge royal ears his face just as much if not even more of a dead give away that he's the Queen's bastard child, especially when there are rumors of one. I'm not sure if Shei ever meets his grandfather but I have and incredibly specific incredibly brief Thing about him. That Shei's grandfather is ex-military, and while fighting got hurt. Permanent limp in his gait. Got sent home. Very strict/stern. I figure maybe Shei's father talks about him in passing as Shei grows up, and maybe they have a portrait of him hung up somewhere.

Back to the Queen- I think you killed her off to pass off the Goddess Essence in the latter years of Shei's captivity. I'm desperate to know by what.

Another thing I don't think I touched on about Shei's father/but also the queen. I think she'd totally order the tavern (and if they have one, the vinyard) razed to its foundations. On top of thereafter executing Shei's father. I'm not sure if she or someone else would go to tell him. If the queen went to go tell him herself... oof. That'd be some first impression to make upon meeting your child for the first time... "hey, I murdered your dad! Sucks for you lol"

Oh! Speaking of! ...Shei has magic previous to yknow. The Goddess Essence being passed along to him? I'm definitely curious about that, if that's going to stay a thing and the implications of that 👀👀👀👀👀

But yea I don't imagine Shei is very happy about that, and being denied revenge or justice via crystal time capsule so um. I bet he has abit of Repressed anger 👀👀👀 that he lets out maybe passive aggressively 👀👀👀👀👀 or sarcasm and mean smiles 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

Shei always being confrontational, always needing Link to save him, thinking he's done it this time and he's got the upper hand, he's saved his friends, he's returned the favor. Only to find the other end of the Fae King's rapier protruding through his gut. At this point, he's lived through so many near death experiences. Giant spiders and monsters, poisonings, and now this?

But let's say there's something... funky about this here sword.

Neither opponent moves. Shei, hurting, for fear of further injury. The Fae King, sadist, reveling in his power gives the hilt a little jiggle. Shei feels his insides mix. The Fae King leans in, and because that's always a good thing, he smiles.

"Do you know why they call this sword the Bleeding Edge, boy?"

Shei doesn't, and he doesn't get more than a second to answer before it's ripped out of him with a great, maniacal laugh.

"That's because the wounds it makes never heals, stupid boy!"

Shei hits his knees, clutching his gut. He can barely understand what Fae King's saying through the panic.

"They bleed like pigs and you're bleeding all over my floor!"

He must snicker because-

"What's so funny?"

"You just... remind me of someone." Shei grins. "She didn't like when people bled on her things either."

It'd be HILARIOUS if the Queen and the Fae King had similar/parallel fates, like if the Queen died in a revolt or something. I think I remember you saying the old castle being in some sorta ruin so It'd be reasonable if there was some sort of "disaster" that happened. Plus wasn't Ganon like. Sealed under the castle for some reason? I'm BEGGING for more elaboration on that- juicy 👀👀👀👀👀👀

But ya it'd be funny if they shared fates. Plus Link would be even more bite kill maim than before since Fae King killed Shei (and took his essence? 👀👀👀)

I'm not sure if that's a confrontation that Link and Stella are gonna be able to wrap up in a nice little bow. And by that I mean. Actually kill the Fae King. Plus I think it'd be really cool if we could see Fae King and Ganon work together maybe? Ik I keep bringing him up but I'm like 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 I definitely wanna see how the power scales and Ganon's role other than big bad you gotta kill. I wonder how he feels about Stella galvanizing with the heroes... if he tries to bring her back or use that to his advantage. If he doesn't have her killed (personally or otherwise) first. And I wonder how Stella feels, if she misses that life. If she considers going back, because Shei is dead and at least Ganon isn't- but then there's Link and well. Shei would want them to take care of each other, right?
