team USA stans are funny bc one moment they're like omg the judges are corrupt, these fifteen year old russian girls are so overscored they're ruining this sport 馃槨 and then in the next breath they'll exalt NC's manufactured scores and act like judging corruption is a completely unrealistic myth that'd certainly never happen to men's skating

It seems to me that Anna has lost her momentum, so I don鈥檛 know, I feel like she鈥檚 more at risk than Sasha. Sasha鈥檚 is such an Olympic program, I think they will do anything to let her go.
Anna finishing 3rd at Nationals and with no quad/3A for sure puts her at risk, the one huge thing she has going for her is her being reigning world champion (and of course Eteriflation). Sasha has her quads + finished 2nd so that bodes very well for her chances. That's also why I think they need a skate off between Anna and Liza, if Liza can be consistent and Anna continue to deteriorate it can and should go to Liza.

Alright so 12+ hours later I find myself in roughly the same position that I was in right after the event concluded, but much better able to articulate my feelings.
Which are, chiefly, that I鈥檓 so happy for the medalists and proud of all these young women who went out and gave performance after brilliant performance. The scoring and placements were whack, and I will never not be furious at the judges and technical panel for how that ended up. But I鈥檓 pleased for Alina and Evgenia, who both managed to deliver two clean programs in one competition for what I think(?) is the first time this season for both of them. I鈥檓 doubly pleased for Elizabet, who made history today. I鈥檓 saddened for Rika, Kaori, and Satoko, who deserved better from the judges, but they all performed beautifully.
It was a night (well, morning for me, but night local time) of beautiful, emotional performances. I find myself very conflicted because I鈥檓 proud of everyone including (perhaps especially) the medalists and happy for them and yet the judging was so bad that it inevitably taints that happiness for me.
I wish I could come down on one side of the fence or the other. I wish I could just be, like, aggressively pissed off about the whole thing and wash my hands of it, but I鈥檓 too happy for Alina and Elizabet and Evgenia to just throw the whole thing in the trash. But I also can鈥檛 just celebrate my happiness for their success, either, because it comes with the awareness that the results of this event weren鈥檛 really fair. It鈥檚 a really complicated place to be, emotionally speaking, and I鈥檓 not sure how (or if) I can resolve it within myself.

nobody is saying that evgenia doesn't deserve bronze because she hasn't worked enough. we're saying that the 2.12 goe on her flutz made all the difference because she beat rika. that goe IS undeserved - evgenia hasn't magically acquired an outside edge since her last showing @russian cup. even in previous clean performances of hers back in eteriflation, she got less goe for the flutz; positive goe, but often not above 1.00. if she had got less goe, rika would have been bronze. simple as that.
Yes, and I said I agreed with your point (or the same point made by another anon聽here). What part of the sentence "yep, agree, totally reasonable point you made there" that I said previously was confusing?
At the risk of sounding horribly vain, I believe if there鈥檚 anyone that needs explanation about how GOE works and what a flutz is, that someone sure as heck isn鈥檛 me. Not sure what else you expect me to do here?

sometimes i think im doing fine but then i remember how alina with shit toe jumps, posture, and ss has a higher personal best fs score than rika with textbook jumps, eight triples including two 3A, full package skating, etc.

why are communist locals who know nothing about figure skating defending kamila's inflated scores, when they could be fighting for sui/han to get their ogm in a few days, useless mfs stay in your lane

rewatching rika's sci 2019 performances is vindicating bc you can tell tracy was NOT a fan of the direction the sport was taking lol, from her highlighting rika's skating and jump qualities, as well as discussing GOE inflation of quads. she even said it was a shame that rika's scores wouldn't close the gap with trusova's when she certainly deserved to. can more commentators have this kind of energy please

we all already know that theyre gonna give kamila the ogm, so like why even bother having the women's singles event at beijing

man i hate how rika has to be flawless in order to have a fighting chance, bc all of her mistakes/errors get singled out by fs fans and tech panels alike, meanwhile her biggest rivals have their technical flaws consistently ignored

Is it bad if I no longer feel joy watching Anna鈥檚 skates? I don鈥檛 hate her, and I would never hate a skater for being overscored, but with the crazy favoritism all I can think about is how rika and kaori got lowballed to hell and back. But what does my enjoyment even matter? Whoever the ISU鈥檚 current champion is is going to win anyways. She has my congratulations, but this competition leaves a bitter taste.
you're allowed to feel any way you want. not enjoying a skater's skating is normal. no one should make you feel bad for simply not feeling enjoyment. it's your feelings. and youre not even directing any of it against her; youre perfectly fine. in fact, in most sports, resentment toward your favorite athlete's rival is normal, provided that it doesnt cross certain boundaries. figure skating fandom is just weirdly controlling at times.
and feeling bitter about the double standards is normal too. it's a sport, so we naturally expect fairness.
to be honest, i feel bitter too. youre not alone. it gets very tiring seeing such amazing talents get robbed over and over again. (karen and kaori especially deserved better than what they got from the judges, fuck this fake competition lmao)
all i can really say is that your feelings are completely understandable and they matter.
on the bright side: the technical and judging panels for this worlds was weird. im pretty sure it was all western countries. in a way, 2021 worlds was like a worst case scenario, with all the bad skates and completely white tech and judging panels. i dont think it'll be as bad in beijing. i think. im trying to be optimistic lol.

russian skating politics ruined this sport. i hate everything. first rika gets robbed of 1st place in the short program for a white russian girl, now sui/han get robbed of a world title for a white russian pair.

if you factor in how the inflated TES cancels out the lowballed PCS, i think the ladies at nhk were scored generally correctly. yall are just too accustomed to russian and american inflation lmao
that being said, comparing rostelecom scores to nhk scores makes me want to tear my hair out. in what world do trusova and tuktamysheva deserve higher/similar PCS than all the japanese ladies (and young you of korea) at nhk????? 馃檭馃檭

Anyway podium should鈥檝e been Lilbet - Rika - Zhenya
I try to stay away from yelling about scores outside of private chats unless the scoring is really egregiously bad but like.... the scoring in this event was really egregiously bad
Rika鈥檚 scores in both the SP and the FS seemed fair to me, so I agree with her scoring, but not her placement. Zhenya had two amazing clean performances, and I definitely agree that she should be on the podium, but she was overscored as hell in the free and should鈥檝e been below Rika. Elizabet鈥檚 scores were... hmmm... she鈥檚 definitely benefiting from Eteriflation but right now I can鈥檛 point to any individual thing that I would specifically say warrants demerits from the scores that she was actually awarded, so I鈥檓 fine with her placing above Rika, especially since she had a lead from the SP and landed her 4S.
As for Alina... I鈥檓 really glad to see her have performances that she鈥檚 happy with. I鈥檝e seen her tense and upset coming off the ice way too much for my heart to handle this season. HOWEVER, she had multiple uncalled URs in both the free and short program, and her TES was wildly inflated. She ought to have placed behind Kaori and Lilbet in the SP, and she definitely shouldn鈥檛 have won the free. Not even touching the PCS issue right now because that鈥檚 a can of worms I really don鈥檛 wanna open for a few hours.
Anyway ew
