"The man, the sea, his queen, and the sea herself by the light of a single oillight."
Tumblr media
— for @ruthlessness69, because you make me want to make spleepy Poseidon cry of happiness. (scene not in the fic, (yet, (but what do I know)))
This is the long, long, long, long overdue fic rec for "The man and the sea" over on AO3. Of course, with art. Let me just say, if you need a soft(er) Poseidon with a heart full of pining for a certain king, a lot of romcom-ish meddling, and two badass queens, look no further... you'll, laugh, you'll sigh, you'll most definitely cry!
The Man and The Sea by ruthlessness Rating: Mature Relationships: Odysseus/Poseidon (EPIC: The Musical), Amphitrite & Poseidon (Ancient Greek Religion & Lore), Odysseus/Penelope (EPIC: The Musical) Summary: The sea is different everyday, but it always remains to be the sea. At times the water is sparkly and shiny, going from light turquoise to deep ocean blue, sometimes nearly black, and at times it's muddy and brown because of the dirt and mud being raised up from the bottom. The sea never hides it's secrets, they are just lurking down below. They are always ready to come up to the surface and be a shocking surprise to anybody. The sea was hiding lots of skeletons of the past and also lots of treasures. And it was completely ruthless.
✨I remember seeing your header for the first chapter just after Vengeance Saga aired, and beneath it you mentioned wanting to post on AO3 but lacking an account. To this day I am happy you didn't delete my slightly creepy message (I thought it was a bit creepy, we didn't know each other), and over time made me laugh and sob so hard with this fic and all your wonderful art for the pairing. I just want to give a little something back as a new years gift, bc your story and art make me feel like Poseidon here. Hope your character designs are recognizable enough (Amphi does her own thing, though), playing with your colorsets for the characters was real fun.
🍑 Okay, hear me out, this time there is a reason for the lack of draperies, really! No... stop it right there, just because I don't draw clothes doesn't mean I can't draw clothes...! 😭😭

Eikon for @rin-solo
"touch me like a lover would"
Have Poseidon being totally levelheaded about his little unrequited crush on Odysseus. Nah, don't mention it, really, he totally isn't obsessing about this mere mortal every second of the day and doing completely irrational things about it, nah... he's just a chill god chilling with his waves, wouldn't be him, right? Riiiiight...
*cackles in Linear B and chisels a relief of it into Mount Helicon that will last for the next five millenia*
(alternate versions below⏬)
Anyway, I've been stewing alongside our favourite Lord of the Depths in the god-level angst that gracious @rin-solo cooked up in 'Theohimerotic' over on AO3. Yes, of course I'm normal about it, thx for asking.
This is a sort-of chapter-header, and it's based off the line above for chapter III. There's this concept of the Eikon in the chapter, which I just found a very cool narrative device. This is the result of me thinking about it, and fair warning: This is Poseidon's hc inspired by that chapter, so don't go looking for this scene specifically, but do go read. Also, mark the emboldened words above (maaaybe also the fic tags, if you aren't me), that's important, but it doesn't take away anything from the massive and enjoyably written heartache.
Now head over there, enjoy for yourself and leave the author a nice big comment, plz. ✨

Artwise: I'm trying to challenge myself with lighting, a little more complicated poses of characters interacting, and finding back into a more efficient sketching/painting process, so there's anatomical "glitches" ... hehe... priorities were set.
Merry solstice, fellow pagans.

"Friction." That scene again. If we are disrespecting the gods, let them at least have a little fun. Sketch from Nov'24, just finally coloured it. With clothes on, would you believe it. (I like the peachy version better, though 🍑)
Playing around with design variations on Poseidon.
Nobody: ... Me: ... corrupted trident, here you go!
👀Full vista plus variants under the cut. 👀

Started as lighting practise, went elsewhere. Getting the clothes back on was... not trivial.

Suggestive Odysseus/Poseidon.

"... don't leave me fearing more of what you did. Instead... instead, I beg of you, remake me."
Personal work. (Warnings: Blood, wounds, SA)
For a number of reasons, the myth of Kainís/Caenis/Caeneus and Poseidon is important to me. I first encountered it in the 'Metamorphoses', so that is the version this revolves around.
👀 Full version and edits below the cut 👀

It happened at a beach, you are going to say. Yes, according to myth, it did. The background, I hope is vague enough to imagine one, if you please.
The tree in the background might be a Linden Tree. Invulnerability is a theme with them. One of their leaves once brought another invulnerable hero down. They are virile enough to outgrow injury, regenerate through new shoots, and easily become the oldest leafbearing trees. Caeneus, in the Centauromachy, had to be hammered upright into the ground with treetrunks, and trapped under a rock because he just couldn't be overcome.
The tree in the background might be a Hornbeam, too. The damage these can take and still grow strong is just absurd.
